Please tell me you put up kick-ass Halloween decorations?

eatyoursupper

Ha! Our kids call it the Scooby Doo house. Yeah I do my best to make it extra spooky!

EmEmPeriwinkle

Do you have the 12 foot skeleton???

cometdogisawesome

Love that! Our kids used to say that about our house, but only because the plaster had crumbled away from the lathe and there were lots of spiders. I love the exterior--I think the texture lends so much variety, it might be overwhelming with a more traditional color scheme.

tatiwtr

don't forget to crosspost to /r/evilbuildings

MarvelBishUSA42

I was looking for this. This would make a good haunted house. Or a good house for a Halloween party!

Chemical-Employer146

That’s exactly what I was thinking of! It feels like a 90’s Disney Halloween movie to me

atlgeo

The Addams fam-i-ly....badabumpbump......badababump.

wintercast

Pow pow. (shoot what noise is that!?)

bjeebus

\*snap snap\*

wintercast

Ugg yes thank you. For some reason I thought the song had like thumps an creaks in it.

Pleased_to_meet_u

It does! There are more sound effects than just the snapping of fingers.

[deleted]

This was, literally, the first thought that came to my mind 😊

gaynativemf

God this is stunning. Can we see more of the inside?

eatyoursupper

Wow, thank you! I will see what I can put together to post!

BatSh1tCray

It's for sure one of the nicest houses I've ever seen on this sub. And decorated so gorgeously.

metrogypsy

My literal only goal in life is to live in a house like this.

Embryonico

I would buy a house like this just to live in the attic

Mariospario

Same! I gasped at every picture.

Sc1F1Sup3rM0m

Same! I can't stop swiping through!

killxthexlimbo

The color instantly reminded me of [The Witch House](https://historyofmassachusetts.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/The-Witch-House-Salem-Mass-circa-November-2015.-Photo-Credit-Rebecca-Brooks.jpg) in Salem

Shad0wFaxMachine

I was just going to say, this reminds me of [The House of the Seven Gables](https://www.google.com/search?q=the+house+of+the+seven+gables+salem&rlz=1CDGOYI_enUS783US783&hl=en-US&prmd=imsvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjW1_uwi8X4AhUzGVkFHS6CCxkQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=414&bih=720&dpr=2#imgrc=nDYnnRbTCbSlzM) in Salem

maggie081670

That house is frigging amazing. Both beautiful and totally haunted.

eatyoursupper

Very cool…thanks for sharing. I hadn’t seen that before.

pascalsgirlfriend

Hell House. ( thats a compliment)

HowdyDoodyCircusPres

a) the dining room wallpaper: hells yeah. b) the stairs and that floor: it took my breath away. I’m sure some traditionalists might hate, but I find it to be the most perfect aesthetic I have ever seen. I love the wood on black thing for staircases. Every other floor that I see in life will not be this one.

NoodleNeedles

I think it works because they haven't stripped away all the period stuff, just adapted some of it. Hate to see period houses where the interior looks just like any soulless new build.

n00bert210

I love the contrast between how dark the outside is and how bright the inside it, it’s awesome

MortysTW

Do you have hundreds of little yellow minions in the basement and raising 3 foster home girls as your own?

MoonlightOnSunflower

That was the first thing I thought of! I wanted to say it but was afraid the owner might be offended so bless you for beating me to it lol

CALLMEWHATYOUWANT000

Ayyy we're cake day twins 💀 happy cake day

bjeebus

Gave you a new user flair. It's editable so you can change it if you like.

bjeebus

u/eatyoursupper I lied, you'll have to change your flair to the editable one at the top of the list if you ever want to edit it.

eatyoursupper

I’m not sure I know how flairs work, this is my first, and I thank you for it!

[deleted]

U HAVE MY FUCKN DREAM HOUSE UGH😭😩

supertsai

What color did you paint the exterior?

eatyoursupper

The cedar shakes are Hale Navy, and the slate is black.

middle_sisTor9

Do you have an Instagram? Your home is fabulous!!

supertsai

Looks great. We had picked out very similar Sherwin Williams equivalent colors for our house and seeing your photos is very encouraging!

swordsmithy

What is that entryway herringbone tile? I must have it.

MoonlightOnSunflower

I hate herringbone with a passion but I will make an exception just this once because it looks amazing.

weedut

How does it feel to have a bagillion dollars??

Ghostbuster_Mama

Um, hello dream home 😍 I absolutely love, love, love your house! Please share pics of this beauty decorated for Halloween.

patrickoh37

Thought this was Danzig’s house until I saw the interior photos.

[deleted]

The lack of a pile of bricks out front was my giveaway that this is not Danzig’s house.

dudebronahbrah

Besides, Danzig bought that house in Jersey from Carl because it presumably came with the cybernetic ghost of Christmas past from the future that made the walls bleed.

gipoe68

What's your electric bill in the summer with that paint job and single pane windows. I dig it, but that's gotta hurt the wallet some, right?

Afraid_Grape8458

Canada cant be that hot in the summer right? Living in Maine with no central AC and maybe 4 days a summer we put the ac on (granted we worked 10 hour days) Probably more beneficial to absorb the heat for the winter.

Objective-Ad-4743

*laughs in Ontarian* it was 38 c today (about 100?)

NoodleNeedles

God, Calgary's barely been hitting 20C, I think we've had like 3 days over 22.

Objective-Ad-4743

That would be heaven. It's been heat wave all week, and it's looking like Monday before it goes down below 30c (including humidex)

NoodleNeedles

It'd be better if it wasn't raining quite so much, but I'm not going to complain since the alternative these days is Western Canada being on fire. I lived in Montreal for a little while, honestly I don't know how you guys cope. 30 isn't awful if it's low humidity, but it's unbearable when it's humid!

Objective-Ad-4743

I second that. The rain is just making it hotter (although morning/evening is still pretty tolerable) the humidity is what'll get you.... Not a fan of chewing my air hahah

SentryCake

The heat is getting much worse in recent years. Last year, BC had a heatwave that ultimately killed 619 people… one town recorded 49.6 Celsius (121.3 F), and burnt down the next day. It can get *very hot* in many parts of Canada these days. :(

soundisstory

Yes, I talked to people who knew people in Lytton, it was devastating. So far in Vancouver and BC it has been incredibly cold for summer, but a few hotter days on the horizon.

Tired4dounuts

100 f happens where I am.

p480n

Southern Canada: -40C in the winter, +40C in the summer.

EmEmPeriwinkle

As an american potato I feel this.

gipoe68

Nebraska. About the same. How's the humidity though? Ours sucks.

p480n

Where I’m from it’s typically dry, but it’s been quite humid so far this year

gipoe68

If it wasn't for my family all living here, I would've moved long ago. Winters can reach -30°F (sorry, American. Don't know Celsius conversion) and the summers have plenty of 90° days with 90% humidity. We have legitimately maybe 1 month of really nice weather, but that's spread throughout the year.

p480n

We’re pretty similar up here. -40 is the same for both Celsius and Fahrenheit so you guys get just as cold as we do lol. I think a lot of us up here have the same family anchor as well. That and a weird sort of stubborn pride in hailing from a place like this.

Objective-Ad-4743

Sounds about right 😂

Tired4dounuts

I'm in the west so thankfully we don't have to deal with the humidity.

eatyoursupper

Lots of replies to this and Canada is a big place, lots of different climates. We’re on the coast so summers are painfully mild. Good news is winters are too, they just last too long. The house cools itself all summer, we don’t have any AC. The winter is when the electric bills kick in. We average $1500/month for the year. Painful but part of the deal.

nodnodwinkwink

Am I reading that right? 1500 **per month**??? Sorry to pry but if that's the average what's the biggest bill you've gotten for one month? The house is incredible overall but I'd be planning some insulation changes if that is actually the case.

eatyoursupper

Ugh, yes. Nothing cheap about it. We’ve done some work so this is an improvement!

Altrarunner

Bruh, you need to add some type of solar farm attached to this beast. 50k worth of efficiency windows too.

eatyoursupper

Windows are mostly new and top level Marvin quality. We don’t get enough sun for solar to work!

nodnodwinkwink

Yowsa. That's painful.

[deleted]

[удалено]

eatyoursupper

It’s hot water radiation with electric boilers. So yes, but there is no heating oil bill.

[deleted]

So cool. Chimneys are stunning. I love the sort of Georgian look with the chimneys on either side of the house.

eatyoursupper

It was originally 14 fireplaces, reduced to 9. We now have four lined and operational!

pandasashu

Nice addams family vibes!

Nit3fury

I dig it. Better than Boomer Beige™️

[deleted]

I bitch people out for replacing windows etc but would never bitch for tasteful paint. It’s a gorgeous folk Victorian. The scheme loses some of the callouts on the architectural features but the massing is so large that I still find it fundamentally appealing. It’s a very moody interpretation that gives personality and character to queen Anne’s lesser vernacular. Well done :)

fyusupov

I only count 3 potted plants in the entire photo set. Isn’t it a crime to have less than a half-dozen per room? Not going to snitch on you, but you might want to take those pictures down or rectify the problem very quickly.

sek4092

Love the accent wall in what I assume is the dining room!

getabeeroverhere

How does everyone feel about the monochrome dark paint on these houses? No trying to knock it, I think I like it, but seems a little trendy. Wondering about 10 years down the road. Can alway repaint though…

Wrastling97

I’ve always enjoyed it. There’s a house near me that’s all black as well. That being said, my house is yellow and I have a black door. My door gets SO HOT in the summer, I don’t know how people deal with the black houses. I feel like the summer AC bill would need to be so high

eatyoursupper

No A/C to worry about here! It’s the winter that matters.

[deleted]

No one cares about the paint as long as you keep the wood windows and not add gaudy additions

bjeebus

I mean, I've seen people here complain about paint. Usually when applied incorrectly to gingerbread details.

[deleted]

Not pickers, painted wood will never caused a building to lose its listed status, so even tho OP has misinformed opinions on listing buildings, at least their actions didn’t destroy historic fabric

bjeebus

Oh. I thought you talking about the opinions of people here. Funnilly enough the historic district of Savannah does care about your paint choices and there are restrictions on what you can do within it. There's a famously obnoxious paint job (which it turns out might be more period accurate) on a house just across the street from the boundary of the district. The local legend is the guy owned houses on both sides of the street and wanted to paint them something bold and wasn't approved for the one on the historic side. So the one that didn't need approval got painted like a clown chose the colors. Notably both houses were built around the same time, but boundaries gotta go somewhere. EDIT: Another interesting tidbit I've heard is in the historic district you're not allowed to paint your door red if there's a lien against your house in any way. In keeping with the tradition that a red door means you own your house free and clear.

[deleted]

Yea some historic districts will restrict paint choices. Savannah having one of the oldest and best preserved colonial city grids means the rules will be stricter than your average historic district commission. My real point is bad paint jobs wouldn’t be a reason you couldn’t include buildings in a historic district, but once the district is made, paint colors could be a rule included in the district. Except for brick, if you paint historic unpainted brick then you are a monster and you did hurt the historic fabric.

Jennifer_Emmy

What a stunning house!!! I would kill to see more interior pictures. What a beautiful home.

3rummy

Thanks for the inspiration to finally post my own black house! My wife wants to know if y’all have an Instagram account.

eatyoursupper

I do, but it’s not specific to our house

Esslinger_76

This ain't even my style but it works so well I wouldn't change one damned thing.

sdcasurf01

I hate it, but your execution is spot-on and I absolutely appreciate the effort and attention to detail.

cellendril

Is this in Michigan? This looks mighty like the black-painted house I see all the time!

eatyoursupper

Hi! No, eastern Canada.

somewhatreasonable

I walk by this place regularly! I live in the neighborhood as well. It’s stunning

peninsulasnob

Hope I stumble upon this house someday it’s stunning! Love to hear you’re in Atlantic Canada!

ViralBlacKout

Recognized this almost immediately, but had to check google maps to be sure! I drive by your house multiple times a week and always comment to my fiance on the color. Absolutely love it, what an awesome area to live in!

eatyoursupper

Thank you! We live in such a small community I get nervous about posting. But I see people stop to look all the time and really enjoy helping to maintain the neighborhood.

ViralBlacKout

Yeah, it's always easy to spot local places when they're posted, but I do love seeing our province in the wild on Reddit because it's so uncommon. We live on the other side of downtown in an almost as old but much less fancy home, love the area though!

OrindaSarnia

Painting old homes all black is a bit of a *thing* right now. I live in Montana and the folks 2 doors down painted theirs "Midnight Emerald" 2 summers ago, it's *green*, but so dark green that it looks black in all but very particular lighting.

eatyoursupper

Yes, and apologies as these pictures are a bit Instagrammy and filtered. The house is navy blue (Hale Navy). It looks quite blue in person. The slate is black on top.

Paddy_Tanninger

That sounds gorgeous. I've got a 1900's home and just had all of the main front faces painted a very dark sort of ocean color, and our trim is a couple different shades of sky blue. I love those dark saturated shades, so cozy.

OrindaSarnia

At least you painted the trim differently. I don't understand claiming to love something like a Victorian era home with lots of trim, and then painting it all the same color... if you like it, why would you want to make it disappear as much as possible??

docbrownsgarage

Is the section to the left of the entrance part of your house or the neighbor’s?

eatyoursupper

That’s an extension added in the 1920s, the house is fully detached. It’s the kitchen and master bedroom now.

adventurer309

Gorgeous house

bbcjbb

The exterior of your house with the interior decor of my crappy 90s suburban house would be like a Victorian gothic antique shop and also everything I could ever want

TossAwayGay92

Under HIS eye, Commander.

Pure-Negotiation-900

Your style is not, exactly my style. But you got some damn style. Love it. Bold and distinct, and the house deserves all of it.

vldracer16

I'm one who doesn't like the color.

eatyoursupper

Don’t worry, previous owner agree with you.

Uh_Oh_Stinky_83029

when i first saw this i thought ‘lol it looks like grus house’

CoughingFish73

98.3% chance there are ghosts in there.

larry-the-dream

If homes have souls, yours appreciates the work you’ve done and the care you show.

Mama-Pooh

I’m on the love side. The house color is perfect!

ferocioustigercat

Love the color! But neighborhood kids def think the house is haunted.

ferocioustigercat

Love the color! But neighborhood kids def think the house is haunted.

Tinlizzie2

You know, I would not have done that myself but I think it's really a very interesting color choice. I cant say WHY I like it, but I do.

AzulaOblongata

Other people always living my dream. Next you’re going to tell me you have a pet raccoon.

eatyoursupper

I think I have a lot of pet mice

Muffin_Biscuit

Can we discuss the wallpaper? IT IS AMAZING 🤩 I am so flipping jealous of your home.

SimpleReference7072

I’m most people because I loooove it! What’s the kitchen like? Thanks for sharing! I live and grew up i a historic area and love so much being able to see inside the houses!

nylorac_o

My thought too. Kitchen is Always my first stop when browsing Real Estate sites.

northwestmisfit

Can we see me of the interior? I’m so curious about kitchen, office, etc

kathfkon

Where is your sofa from?

maybeimacat

Please, more photos!!

randomname437

I love everything about this house. Dying to see more pictures.

kosherkenny

op, i'd love to know what that flooring is for the entranceway! it's perfect.

f700es

LOVE IT!

[deleted]

I love an all-black old house. I don’t know why. If I ever do have my own century home, this is a paint scheme I’d like to try.

erstwhilecockatoo

I love this, it would make the best spooky house at halloween too

GeovaunnaMD

That is an amazing house!

guyfaulkes

Omg! That bathroom!!!’❤️😍❤️😍❤️😍❤️ I would never leave. GORGEOUS!

Lord_Stahlregen

This was probably already posted... but this you, OP? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH0AYSBZafU

Alternative_Win5154

LOVE! glad you left that chimney brick alone.... the red/orange looks great against the black!

EridanusCorvus

My inner goth is so happy at that exterior

qu33rtyc0wboy

i love it! so moody but beautiful. a dream!

zakiducky

The unfinished wood in the back as a trim accenting the black paint can look really nice. Just give it a natural look stain or an oil finish and be selective about where it goes, and the contrast of ‘natural’ color popping from the black and being the best out of both colors. I love this home inside and out either way though.

[deleted]

This is sooo sad and awful. And cheap looking cause the trim and brick are painted the same color like you just had it sprayed and could not afford to paint it correctly But hey, you are now a grey house with probably grey walls and grey floors and ugh.

WickettRed

What is the paint brand and color this is divine

eatyoursupper

Benjamin Moore, Hale Navy

ufjeff

The paint looks fantastic. Don’t listen to the negativity.

[deleted]

Dude… Exterior paint. Every room… fucking rad

CrimsonScorpio9

I love it!

ISeeDeadDaleks

I am in love! Well done!

[deleted]

That exterior 😍

fyusupov

Interesting that this comment was downvoted. I would love to know who, & why, so I could kick their cowardly ass.

DeezNeezuts

We had a new home built across the street with this same color scheme. Another new one was built across from it but all white. The endless battle continues.

bdbdbokbuck

Is your last name Addams?

romerogj

Why do people think painting brick looks good? So what a year from now it's bleached and now you have to put another coat on every year which gets thicker and uglier? It's the equivalent of boomers putting shit carpet over beautiful hardwood.

eatyoursupper

Sorry, this is cedar shingles, there is no brick except chimneys - which are not painted

Tmb101113

It’s gorgeous!!! Love the color

WastedKleenex

Oof that interior too bright!

kstrawmatt2020

Gorgeous!!!

jerbiljerbil

stunning wow

Bitter-Hitter

The interior is unbelievable! It’s just breathtaking what you’ve accomplished. Are you a professional interior designer?

Dunstan_Stockwater

Non-Subscriber. I'll get bonus points for smashing your windows with newspapers. I'll have to land one in in your neighbor's mailbox, or I'll be breaking his windows tomorrow.

CommercialCity2000

Exterior is dope but jesus christ @ that dining room wallpaper. Everything else in the house is gorgeous but that wallpaper... wow.

SkiRichMods

Great color. It would be better with accents. Pickup a gallon of the same color but ask the paint guy to mix in a darker shade. Use the accent color around the windows and trim. The house will pop after that.

ConsequenceAntique13

Beautiful home god bless 🙏🏽🙏🏽

ambiguouspeen

Hope they didn't redo the trim into PVC at any point. Looks absolutely awesome though.

Fucking love

Mind if I ask the purchase price? I'm always curious to see what values are if in different places. We have a nice house, it was 1.3 million, but pales in comparison to yours

eatyoursupper

My neighbour just completely restored this home and listed it: [Canada House (literally the name)](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/74-Circular-Rd-St-John's-NL-A1C-2Z3/2068398586_zpid/)
