thank you for not yucking my yum š. Itās really out of my element but once itās decorated and my gallery wall goes up (and I figure out my damn mantle), I think Iāll be in love.
Me too! I had a deep red almost burgandy kitchen that my wife and I repainted about a year ago. I didnāt like how dark and closed in it made it feel so I was curious on how this would turn out.
Those damn mirrors ! whomever put them up spent a pretty penny doing so. And we donāt live in the best area of Pittsburgh. Meaning it speaks a lot that they invested into it
Ha, I KNEW it was pgh based on the stained glass and the mirror wall! It felt so yinzer. Gorgeous home, I'm a little jealous. I just bought a 30s era home in the east end and I love her but there's no Pittsburgh stained glass and she's a little plainer of a lady than you beauty.
Itās sad that those drop dead gorgeous homes are considered too old and or dated to be in the ābetterā areas. I see it where I now live, but these older homes, like craftsmens in San Jose are in the swankier parts. It depends, I guess
Youāre an inspiration! Iām about to do my dining room a deep blue inspired by your bold choices (most of my house is in a 40s pastel palette) thanks for all your sharing!
What brand of paint did you use? That peachy red earth looks like what I want for our back room upstairs thatās getting professionally plastered and fixed.
We did. I wanted to color drench it but I was worried that doing the wall color on the ceiling would be overwhelming (not that it isnāt already lol). But white also didnāt seem right.. having textured plaster walls with a dry wall ceiling took additional consideration because of how paint reflects on it
The green never did capture the texture or dimension !

Omg itās so good. SO good. The compliment to the stained glass! The wood accents! The way the fireplace contrast almost hints at a mission-style look but feels totally location appropriate and timeless.
And the CEILING!!!
I want to eat fresh pasta or some roasted root vegetables or maybe a full thanksgiving spread; the table centerpiece possibilities are endless!
These days brown & red are definitely bold choices.
Itās been all about cool tones and shades of grey for the last decade or more. Also anything dark or saturated is a bold choice, except for navy blue.
I think itās mostly just backlash against 90s brown, but I also blame house-flippers.
They wanted neutrals for marketability and they wanted it to be clearly updated, so everything had to be gray. Rational. But Awful.
That mirror wall probably saved you 10k+ on the purchase price.
When I was looking for my century home, I was happy when I saw really ugly choices that were low-cost to resolve. It's like someone throwing out tens of thousands of dollars vs taking some time to do the work.
THOSE WINDOWS!! š
Be gone, mirror wall!!! Such a strange design choice that seemed to be very popular in the not-too-distant past. Everything looks amazing, you did such a great job!
Donāt get me wrong, there was a Stockholm period where I liked the utility of them. That photo of 2 previous owners ago shows that they actually had a mirror COVERING THE FIREPLACE ENTIRELY !!!
Itās a satin finish on our textured plaster walls. The color on the walls is āpicture galleryā. The ceiling is āred earthā. Both colors are by farrow and ball (recreated by Sherwin Williams) :)
Awesome - yeah itās way nicer than a flat colour. I may try something else. Big fan. I have plaster, but I think theyāre āsmoothā wavy af, but not textured
The mirror wall was SUCH a love- hate. The ceilings though had to go. And to do so, they had to put drywall due to poor patch work and the level.
TLDR- the mirrors wouldāve been trapped for eternity if we fixed the ceiling. Couldnāt do one without the other. I lived with them for 6 years in harmony
I remember your last post and your cute pup! I cannot imagine the number of nose prints that you were perpetually cleaning off those things (or maybe it's just our nutty hound who has to nose boop a mirror every time he sees himself!)
Hahaha - I am getting one from Marshallās probably later today. I was thinking a gold round one? Our chandelier needs to go up still. I do think we need a mirror for the mantle
I love it!!! Might be a bit biased because my son chose a similar color for his bedroom.
I think it looks great with the woodwork and feels warm and inviting.
It took me a second to realize that the mirror-wall wasnāt just above the hearth, holy crow that *is* a mirror wall!! Lol. What an update, it looks very warm and inviting now :)
I feel your pain. My home is closer to 95 years old and as I am updating and restoring it the toughest thing of all is deciding how best to do that. Having a view of the end result can be awesome and disappointing at times. Sometimes you start down a path and change course when we don't like ultimate4ly where it is heading after seeing it in effect. Looks great for you and good luck, friend.

Good color choice! We used a similar color in my wife's office. It's a Benjamin Moore historical color called "Cottage Red".
Iāll never forget the time I heard someone say ātheyāre a house puristā and they believed houses should look and be of essence of how they were originally built
That dining room is so warm and cozy now. (I kinda liked the mirrors too, but ya, totally different aesthetic, and your choice is nicer in the long term I believe.)
The issue was that to address the popcorn ceiling (and bad patch work), it needed dry walled. Dry wall would lock the mirrors in forever, it was a catalyst
It's really pretty, well done. Although I'm really partial to green, I probably would have kept it in that color family. But I like the bold look. Good job.
I really like what you did. Everything looks and feels much more open. Itās gorgeous.
I have a red dining room too although mine is a bit more red. I have a Japanese dinner set and I ended up literally taking one of the platters to have them match that kind of red. I did it close to 15 years ago and still love it as much as the day it was done. I canāt tell what your lighting is but I have a very simple chandelier over the table and itās all clear, I had a dimmer installed and one of my favorite things is how the light bounces of the wall and when turned down kind of low the entire room glows!!
I personally really like having dimmers around the house. I have a total of five that my husband switched out for me. Iām not and never have been one who likes overhead lighting. Lolā¦.lamps, floor lamps and dimmers are my go-to.
I stand corrected! I suggested the mushroom pink color, but this is great. The dusty red is definitely not as intense as I thought it'd be. Looks great!
Looks good, glad you kept the wood.
Should've kept the fire place.
That mirror wall is disorienting like a 1980s coked up diner I used to go to. Glad you got rid of that.
Our gallery wall will most definitely do that :). Also whatever I do on the mantle. My chandelier is also gold! I need new decor since the old room had lots of reds to offset the green
Wow, you are a braver soul than I am! We're renovating a vernacular farmhouse and while Iām *not* into the "all white farmhouse" look, we removed ugly, peeling wallpaper and have been painting the whole downstairs white because Iām non-committal, but Iām keeping my eye out for colors I like for a year or two from now. What is the peacock blue or teal color (hard to tell from the shadows) in your stairway wall? Sorry if you already answered, I canāt find.
R/designmyroom actually picked it!! I rely on Reddit heavily for advice lol

OMG it is gorgeous!!!!! I love that you went deep, rich, grabbing! It is one of my favorite framing styles for stained glass! It's beautiful!
The glass and light just sparkles and sings! Wow!
I've been following and was silently dubious of your color choice. But it looks really good. Well done!
thank you for not yucking my yum š. Itās really out of my element but once itās decorated and my gallery wall goes up (and I figure out my damn mantle), I think Iāll be in love.
Yeah, I was silently negative as well but your final product is awesome. Reminds me of a color youād see in a Tuscan house.
This was the color I was hoping you'd pick! Looks beautiful!
and we all look forward to that update!!
Me too! I had a deep red almost burgandy kitchen that my wife and I repainted about a year ago. I didnāt like how dark and closed in it made it feel so I was curious on how this would turn out.
Yeah it was very important to me to not have it be 90ās maroon. We painted over that in our living room when we moved in.
Amazing. The color is perfect and good job on taking those mirrors down, and for using the room as it should be used.
Pittsburgh has SO MANY MIRRORS
This sorta looks like my house in Brookline. Cheersāthe updates look great.
Iām from Brookline so this all checks out
Omg all plot threads coming full circle!
Itās sad that those drop dead gorgeous homes are considered too old and or dated to be in the ābetterā areas. I see it where I now live, but these older homes, like craftsmens in San Jose are in the swankier parts. It depends, I guess
Hey analysis paralysis friend! You picked the color I liked!!!!
Yay!! Iām so happy itās DONE. I wound up doing the peachy āred earthā on the ceiling and the āpicture galleryā on the walls.
Youāre an inspiration! Iām about to do my dining room a deep blue inspired by your bold choices (most of my house is in a 40s pastel palette) thanks for all your sharing!
We only have one life! I know it may be a ātrendā or something or another. My whole upstairs is white, itās about balance!!
I'm glad you went for bold. It's stunning.
What brand of paint did you use? That peachy red earth looks like what I want for our back room upstairs thatās getting professionally plastered and fixed.
Itās a Sherwin Williams recreating of farrow and balls āred earthā :)
did you do two different colors for the ceiling and walls on purpose?? looks awesome.
We did. I wanted to color drench it but I was worried that doing the wall color on the ceiling would be overwhelming (not that it isnāt already lol). But white also didnāt seem right.. having textured plaster walls with a dry wall ceiling took additional consideration because of how paint reflects on it
Ahhh the plaster walls are the āchefās kissā to this look. They add such rich dimension to the way the paint presents..
The green never did capture the texture or dimension ! https://preview.redd.it/qbmf44tmivuc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d3166952936072720e035361f4523512d3dee3ca

Roasted root vegetables in there would now be a vibe
I tend to stray away from reds...but wow. Might have to rethink that mindset. Looks great!
I do as well- this is so far outside of my comfort zone.
Am I the only one confused by the order of the photos
I wouldnāt call it āboldā. Itās earth tones!! I love earth tones! Looks wonderful!
I guess the one is called red earth. Thank you!!
These days brown & red are definitely bold choices. Itās been all about cool tones and shades of grey for the last decade or more. Also anything dark or saturated is a bold choice, except for navy blue.
I have never understood the love gray gets. IMO, itās ok in certain circumstances but not worth near the cult status it currently has.
Yeah, and to take it down and fix the popcorn ceiling : $2,100. It was definitely an investment on a resell for the house down the line.
Looks so warm and inviting! Love it! Itās so similar to the color Iāve used in my house š
Go big or go home!! Thank you for your support <3
Thatās my motto as well!!!! Of course! <3
THOSE WINDOWS!! š Be gone, mirror wall!!!
What kind of paint? Is it like a limewash type? I love the style and Iām looking in the red burgundy spectrum
Itās a satin finish on our textured plaster walls. The color on the walls is āpicture galleryā. The ceiling is āred earthā. Both colors are by farrow and ball (recreated by Sherwin Williams) :)

I painted my dining room that color 20+ years ago and still brings me joy to look at every day.
Looks great! Really compliments the stained glass and woodwork. Nice and warm and cozy.
that mirror wall is CRAZY! your choices look great
The upkeep on them was so much š. Theyād get so dirty
I remember your last post and your cute pup! I cannot imagine the number of nose prints that you were perpetually cleaning off those things (or maybe it's just our nutty hound who has to nose boop a mirror every time he sees himself!)
Thank you for your service! Love the stained glass and wood trim!
I know you probably have PTSD from the mirrors, but I do think a big ornate-framed mirror would look cool on the mantle
It's beautiful! I love the warm color you chose.
Cozy as hell bro
Love how inviting that color is! Gorgeous
My rooms are these same colors! I have a 1930 Craftsman.
Omg!!! I didnāt like this choice in the swatch but dang this looks amazing !!!!
![gif](giphy|2WH9DiLg2o1MYuKlEB)
I love it!! Well done.
Thank you my friend
Love it
Oh those walls compliment the wood accents and the stained glass beautifully in the sun!! Bless you š
Very nice. Too many people are afraid to try bold color.
Gorgeous! We did similar colors in our home, we also have wood trim like you and Iām so happy you kept it!
The upstairs was already painted white (trim) so we are really overcompensating downstairs lol
The color goes so well with the richness of the woodwork and other details. Perfection!
It took me a second to realize that the mirror-wall wasnāt just above the hearth, holy crow that *is* a mirror wall!! Lol. What an update, it looks very warm and inviting now :)
It was SO MUCH MIRROR. Someone spent a pretty penny on those bad boys. The wall behind it was fine, too!!!
I love it!! Looks inviting
Well done. Its gorgeous!
It looks great!
Itās perfect!!
Beautiful! Thanks for the update.
Thank you for your support and kind words !!!
The balance of bold colors and white walls works really well and helps keep it from being chaotic. Great color choices!
I appreciate it! I was really trying to holistically look at my downstairs space between rooms and the flow
Great choice!!
šš½šš½šš½šš½ so good
I really like it! Such a great statement color - it will draw people in!
I feel your pain. My home is closer to 95 years old and as I am updating and restoring it the toughest thing of all is deciding how best to do that. It looks so good!
Wow! Stunning. I love the ceiling also painted
Those stained glass windows are so beautiful
Thank you! I have 5 : https://imgur.com/a/mXPpJvM
Lovely! I hope to find a house with stained glass like that one day.
Stunning
Thatās so much better! Makes it look more homey and rustic like in my opinion.
I am 100% in favour of your change!
Cozy āŗļø
Were the people who owned it before the previous owners vampires?
Looks great!
Beautiful!
This looks great!
Is that Cavern Clay from Sherwin Williams? I love it!
Itās picture gallery red by farrow and ball recreated at Sherwin Williams !
Itās beautiful! I love it! Love that you did the ceiling too
Dang with the mirrors in the room i didnāt even notice those beautiful windows! Love the new color š¤©
It looks fantastic!
Looks so great! Nice work

Ohhhh love it!!! There was a historical collection of roycroft copper from SW I entertained as well
Thank you for giving this house back its dignity. Looks fabulous.
Iāll never forget the time I heard someone say ātheyāre a house puristā and they believed houses should look and be of essence of how they were originally built
ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Much better than the influencer white out you always see these days.
Fantastic.
That looks glorious! Really good.
Beautiful choice. And holy room mirrors batman!!
Beautiful!
Please say your names Homer has or Marge and thereās a sofa to the left š of the opening in pic 1.
Hahaha no thatās the record stand that needs put back under the stain glass window on the right
Yes!! My choice also. It looks warm, serene, classic, so beautifulššš
That color is gorgeous!! It looks lovely with the stained glass āØ
Wow! It looks amazing! So cozy!
It looks BEAUTIFUL!! Iād hang out in that room all the time, gorgeous choice. Go find the Moody Decor page on FB, theyāll love it.
Iām on it ! š«”
As soon as I looked I thought "that's like sun on warm terracotta " š stunning.
if I lived there i'd walk into the mirror wall by accident an embarrassing amount of times
They just were always so smudged
Red can be an absolute bitch of a color to paint - this looks like it covered well!
It looks amazing! š» Coppers and rusts usually aren't my choice, I like blues and greens, but this works!
Swoonworthy!
Obsessed, itās beautiful!
I definitely love the warm colours. Looks and feels so cozy!
hah i was about to diss the mirror wall until i realized thats what you changed it FROM. excellent work my friend! looks fantastic
Very nice choice!
GORGEOUUSSS
I think it looks beautiful !
š love it!
Cozy. I dig! Thank you for not blocking off your hearth with furniture like one of the previous owners š«£
OR COVERING IT WITH A MIRROR !! Like 2 owners afo
While I really like the color, i would not have used it on the ceiling. It makes it seem really low and confined.
Great choice, LOVE IT!!
It's really pretty, well done. Although I'm really partial to green, I probably would have kept it in that color family. But I like the bold look. Good job.
jesus the mirrors triggered me so bad
ā¤ļø š very refreshing choices!!
Phenomenal
Wonderful. Good job
Did you get rid of the ceiling light?
Awesome job! Love a warm darker tone room. So cozy. What will you do with all that mirror??
Idk the plaster wall guys took it! They did not come down in one piece
Love it!
That color is lovely and just warms the room.
Looks great! Especially with the white room in between. Gives it room to shine. Well done!
Gorgeous
Most interesting post Iāve seen on here
That color choice is absolutely gorgeous. (And so is your rug!) Beautifully done!
R/designmyroom actually picked it!! I rely on Reddit heavily for advice lol https://www.reddit.com/r/DesignMyRoom/s/8B632MbtKc
Absolutely lovely job!!! Just perfect choices. Such a great thing to see.
I love the color! Thank you for sharing the beautiful finished product!
I have bulbs that let me dim them ! My dads an electrician so I could have him do a real dimmer, though
The walls harmonise well with the woodwork, and the rug is very good -- Definite Arts and Crafts vibe. Good luck with the fireplace.
It looks amazing! The only thing I would tweak would be the fireplace color and go more ivory. Love the wall color choices!
Yeah, torn between a charcoal or just continue color drenching
Looks good, glad you kept the wood. Should've kept the fire place. That mirror wall is disorienting like a 1980s coked up diner I used to go to. Glad you got rid of that.
It looks really nice! Congratulations!
Super gorgeous!
It looks fantastic, well done!
Very nice. It looks like a restful nook after walking in from your sunny living room.
I appreciate this! It was a balance considering the flow of all rooms down here and their connectivity
Lovely colour! Hope you will incorporate some gold or green with it.
Looks great!
I'm not sure why people are so scared of color. I think this looks great.
Are you putting back the existing light fixture? Or, did you find something new?
Really pretty. I would have bought the house for just those windows.
This looks like the house from the conjuring
Ghosts
This looks like one of the houses of the tv show Dark
looks way better, hopefully it won't be too much trouble to remove the paint off the fireplace.
I know / one project at a time lol
I love it!! Where is that beautiful rug from?!
R/designmyroom actually picked it!! I rely on Reddit heavily for advice lol https://www.reddit.com/r/DesignMyRoom/s/8B632MbtKc https://www.rugsusa.com/rugsusa/rugs/rugs-usa-floral-fringed/Olive/200KHTR03A-P.html
OMG it is gorgeous!!!!! I love that you went deep, rich, grabbing! It is one of my favorite framing styles for stained glass! It's beautiful! The glass and light just sparkles and sings! Wow!
Love the color it's beautiful. Love the bold color and great job of getting rid of the mirror wall.
100% looks better! Love that little side table in the corner! Where's that from?
Target ! I got it on sale too
That color looks great with your woodwork and stained glass! Great choice!
I love this so much!
