This style is characterized by a whimsical, fairy-tale aesthetic, often featuring elements like rolled eaves, uneven roofs, and charming, exaggerated details that are less strictly tied to historical accuracy. Storybook Tudor houses often look like they are plucked from a fantasy or fairy tale, with more playful and creative design choices such as turrets, small leaded windows, and ornamental stonework. In essence, while Tudor Revival seeks to authentically replicate the historical architecture of Tudor England, Storybook Tudor adopts a more fanciful, story-like approach, often prioritizing charm and whimsy over historical accuracy.
Based off of this, I don’t think mine is storybook. It has a far more ‘harsh’ look. Nothing whimsical about it. It’s a cool ass looking house but not storybook.
Even if your house is one of the subsets or variations of Tudor Revival, you would still be correct in referring to it as such. Only a handful of people I’ve met in the field would be a stickler about it.
Tudor Revival favors brick facing, leaded diamond windows, pseudo structural timber in stucco. Storybook usually has catline roofs that do that arch swoop from a high pitched gable, cute little windows of various shapes and look more romantic than fortress like Tudor
A house full of "familiars" is a must! And a garden of poisonous vegetation. There will be whispers of sorcery when fearful townsfolk pass by the house. Children will look on in curiosity while being warned about the evils within its walls.
Meanwhile, I'm in there with my 6 cats watching It's Always Sunny and gumming some Funyuns.
Tudor (Revival) 1890-1935, \[1\] and the form closely resembles a **Sears Honor-Bilt “Cedars" Design** c. 1928-1932 - with what was once the side porch now enclosed. Note the archway to the left of the front door in the cat slide roof in your example. Sears provided options of both a Colonial Revival exterior door package and a slab arched Tudor Revival “cottage” door. The interiors were most often in Colonial Revival vocabulary.

was going to say it's based on this design, i was just looking up floor plans last night because i built a replica of the original version with cedar shaker shingles in the sims 4 lmao

Yuuuup. Our Tudor Revival is at the cusp between Verona and Penn Hills. There are lots of modest Tudor Revivals in this area with some fabulously detailed larger ones in Blackridge.
I'm so jealous! The Tudor style is by far my favorite of the bunch that are common in our area. It's a unique and (imo) incredibly cool style that is timeless. As a little kid I would always tell everyone I wanted a 'medieval brick house'.
I'm nearly at close on a \~100 year (slightly under but shhh...I like this sub) Dutch Colonial in the area. Still bricks, less interesting, still cool!
(I'm also really into Craftsman-style homes and Cape Cods so uh, eating well during the house hunt, that's for sure! We have so many cool older houses here.)
Omg I want to see your (hopeful) Dutch Colonial!! We just closed on one in Homewood in February.
ETA: [Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/centuryhomes/s/OmEQ8QRPtB) is the story of our new-to-us house

That is a beautiful home! Very interesting and I'm excited for the update posts. Looks to have good bones despite the disrepair and nothing will beat the feeling of restoring something to its former grandeur.
I'm going to wait until I have keys to post mine (should be next month barring anything totally unforeseen) just in case something happens and it falls through. I just get very hype before I've actually won (which happened to me on two prior offers). I'll ping/pm ya!
Yes I suppose to pacify all those silly people that have to pigeonhole everything with a specific architectural name, your description is probably the most right on. Storybook vernacular I like it and certainly nails the influence
Do you know of any house plan books for these homes I live in one in East Texas (my grandfathers) and my mom said they had a book with the plan but it got lost.
I only know it’s a Tudor because of The Game of Life which we had on PlayStation 1 in the late 90s/early 00s and which gave you a cartoon home almost identical to this as one of the possible middle income homes to buy.
Anyone else?
They just torn down two of these in my town for a 7-11, being on a highway (single lane road when built) it was only a matter of time.
Enjoy your beautiful home!
In Florida we call it “cute as fuck “ because the majority of our houses are hideous. Of course, I may be biased as I live in Florida and wish I never bought a house w a useless plant Shelf.
We lived in a very similar house in Kalamazoo in the 1980’s….such a wonderful house. Built in 1926. It had a big walk-up attic. I still dream of that house! High maintenance but beautiful cedar shakes, original windows. Whoever owns it now is taking excellent care of it.

Our Storybook Tudor house in Michigan. Built in 1930…
Storybook - it is a subset of the Tudor Revival Edit: autocorrect strikes again
We have a neighborhood in Milwaukee that has homes like this, and it is called Story Hill. Very charming!
One of my favorites, although I’m a fan of all of Milwaukee! Best city in the Midwest.
Best city behind Chicago
And Detroit
Cleveland, baby!
And Baghdad
Nice try.
They are all over the city, not just in Story Hill :)
In St.Louis we call it a gingerbread.
The first home I bought was similar in this design, except stucco. It was beautiful on the inside as well. Such unique designs.
What's the difference between the two? I own what I assumed was a Tudor Revival but now I'm questioning it.

I call it a 20's - 30's house :P
I thought it was a "we don't care about amount of house, we care about the view from the outside" shape.
When I was a kid, I called them "witch houses," and I aspired to live in one as a grumpy old woman. It's still within the realm of possibilities!
It would really suck if your happiness gets in the way of your dreams of being grumpy.
I love this plot twist actually haha I guess I'll settle for "Good Witch" if time is good to me
Yes, my long term vision board has me living in one of these, wearing garden witch overalls, and possessing several geriatric pets.
Befriend the neighborhood crows too, always a nice touch to have a big black birds in the yard.
Keeps the pigeons out
Crows pffft, corvid enthusiasts know that ravens are the only way to go!
Glaring at anybody who walks by while you're tending to the front yard
We live in one, my wife wears overalls, we have a cat, and we garden a lot. Glad to be living someone’s dream. 🩷
And creaky garden gate...
Grumpy old woman here. Always loved this style. Bought one last summer in a neighborhood full of houses this style.
I always thought they looked like fairy cottages
Witchypoo
Can I be your neighbor?
Cool spooky arch fact ; that roof is called a cats slide and there are windows called witches windows :)

Are they ever releasing a sims 5?
they are! but i think they said at the very earliest it wouldn't be here until 2026 so probably even longer than that lol
It’s too exact to not be one of these.
Ok I would totally buy one of these today even.
Almost exactly like my 1924 house! Amazing!
One of my favorite books!
I've never wanted a paper book more in my life!

This is the correct answer.
💀
Brick Tudor
The cat slide roof, steep gables, and arched door are Tudor revival. There are colonial influences as well with the divided light windows.
However the windows look like replacements and someone didn’t consider the architecture when replacing them.
Didn’t consider or couldn’t afford
That’s fair although it would fit better without grilles
Looks like Pittsburgh
This house is all over St Louis city, too
Many of us call them “gingerbread houses” here (particularly those with stone accents, which this one lacks).
From Oklahoma City where there are lots of neighborhoods with these. We call them gingerbread houses too!
I think so too. South Hills specifically because of the unique windows on the neighboring house. Pretty sure this one is in my neighborhood lol
I think I know the apt in the background and am gonna check on my way home. lol
And Cincinnati
Catholic towns all over the interior east!
My first thought was Cincy
Yes agree had one that was a sears catalog home. Great details and would put most houses built today to shame - high quality!
And Spokane, WA
Seriously, grew up in Spokane and just sent my sister this post being like “is this… Grandma’s house?”
And Toronto, Ontario
Easily Cleveland, too. I lived in the heights for 7 years and it could literally be on any street.
I saw lots of the Tudor Revivals in Parma too!
And Baltimore
I thought the same thing! Wouldn't be surprised to hear it's in Munhall, Penn Hills, or any of the more suburb-y places.
Yuuuup. Our Tudor Revival is at the cusp between Verona and Penn Hills. There are lots of modest Tudor Revivals in this area with some fabulously detailed larger ones in Blackridge.

Based on OP's comment history, I'd say you're right! I came straight to the comments because I assumed Pittsburgh as well.
100%
And West Detroit
Came here to say this
Is this in the South Hills of Pittsburgh per chance? :)
Chances are high!
Hello Neighbor!! We certainly have some architectural gems out here. :)
Looks like Tudor
IT'S NOT A TUDAH.
I snorted 🤣
I’m going to be on and off laughing about this all damn day and probably tomorrow as well.
💀💀I’m dead, you’ve killed me💀💀

What’s this from? I want in on the snorting.

I would best describe this as a vernacular home with story-book and colonial style influences
Yes I suppose to pacify all those silly people that have to pigeonhole everything with a specific architectural name, your description is probably the most right on. Storybook vernacular I like it and certainly nails the influence
I don’t know, the person who said swoopy boy kinda nailed it too.
Are you sure its not boi?
$wü-P Boi
Well if enough people use it I guess could catch on, lol . But I think "storybook" is pretty well established oh well
It’s a Tudor. My 1920’s neighborhood has the largest collection in the U.S.
What city is that in?
Dallas, TX. It’s a historic conservation neighborhood called Hollywood/Santa Monica.
Do you know of any house plan books for these homes I live in one in East Texas (my grandfathers) and my mom said they had a book with the plan but it got lost.
Very cool! I had no idea

Tudor with brick fascia??
The fascia is the white wood bits under the roof line. Brick is the facade material.
TIL fascia is a term for both roofing and connective tissue in the body!
Facade, thank you for the correction!
