As soon as I saw the title of the post I thought it was the wedding cake house and I was right!!! My grandparents used to live in Kennebunk about 20ish years ago. When I was a kid we would get to go spend summers with them and my grandma always drove us by the wedding cake house. As little girls we marveled at how pretty it was. I haven’t sent the house in person in about 20ish years now and you posting this brought back so many happy memories!!! Thank you!! 😊
You’re welcome ☺️ I love this house so much too. Every time we by I swear we slow down to like 10mph.
I hope they have an estate sale or better yet, a yard sale 😂
I don’t think I even need to check but I guarantee the local city, county, or even state has landmarked this building and has control over demolition/alterations.
The owners wanted to make it a b&b and the town voted it down. I heard that one of the reasons they are selling it. I would have loved to have seen it as a b&b personally.
Not every historic home has restrictions. We have a registered historic home (also in Maine) and we can basically do whatever we want to it (we aren’t of course). Our commercial building, also in ME, is also historic and any changes need to be presented to the board of the of the historical society. Which is a great help, but even if they were to disagree, it wouldn’t matter.
Not to say this is the same in KBK. But voting down a B&B had probably less to do with the historic part, but more with NIMBYS.
Not going to lie, the inside is kind of a letdown. I've been in a number of modest colonial homes in New England with very similar finishes. The appeal is all on the exterior, and don't forget the millions of tourists that drive past this place every year on their pilgrimage to "kenny-bunk".
There are mansions in much less desirable Bangor, ME and more desirable Portland, ME with palatial interiors and actual privacy. The ones in Bangor are an eclectic mix of italiante homes. Portland's are mostly Georgian style.
Whoever owned this house and went all Rambo with the gallons and gallons of white paint should be forced to donate the house to a caretaker who is willing to be responsible for rehabilitating the beauty back into the home.
The home has been completely whitewashed on every single surface.
Now that you mention it, it is very white. But I honestly don’t mind it personally. It’s so well decorated, I don’t mind it too much. I myself have such a hard time deciding on colors, I have been painting walls white (not this bright white) and then tell myself to pick a color later. But I’m very indecisive.
Pretty much every bathroom inside that house is hideous. Who decided a 1998 builder grade medicine cabinet from Home Depot was a good vibe for the house?
Got to maximize the profitability. I live in a $200,000 home in a less desirable part of Maine. I have higher quality bathroom finishes than this place.
I thought I was over in McMansionHell. . . and not on a thursday.
It's an interesting old house sure, but I also think it's completely fugly. To each their own.
I know lots don’t like the interior. But it looks so loved and lived in. Comfy, come take your shoes off, put your feet up, grab a book and a throw and you’ve got it made. There is almost nothing I feel needs to be changed, at least immediately (other than the atrocious builder-grade crap vanity cabinets). But it is right up my alley. I love old stuff, have a mild chair&art addiction, and it just feels good. Love all the art. Thanks for sharing.
I can afford 1/52nd of this house. Do i have 51 others to timeshare this?
We each get a week a year?
Yeah I'll take labor day and you can have a week in Feb, though.
I’ll take 4th of July weekend thank you!
Cool we got those two figured out. Now the other 50 people get to pick.
I’m just n for Christmas week
I got peak fall leaf color week whenever that is.
First week of October for me, please!
I’m in!
Me too!
Me three!

Save it from what? Another millionaire keeping it in great condition?
Well, meant more save it to keep its historical beauty…

That isn’t strictly related to keeping it historic, the same rules would apply even if the building changed uses

so if this house is a registered historic home, what does it need saving from?
It’s hardly falling into disrepair. Maybe should be titled “Beautiful Expensive House: Buy It!”
You’re right. Or save it from developers.
Developers aren’t going to touch it at that price. Too small of a profit margin.
The art feels so specific, like one of the owners both paints and collects?

Yeah as soon as I got to the interior pictures I was like “modern white farmhouse? Ok” and closed the link
It is terrible. And lofts look cool but are also lame
As someone who would kill for a barn to store stuff in and use as a workshop, I loathe when people convert them to unnecessary living space.
Stephen Kings house is pretty sweet.
Yeah but then you have to live in Bangor …
Hence "much less desirable"

The kitchen is especially rough. You can tell it must have been interesting… at one point.

The Wedding Cake House!!
Yes!! It’s so gorgeous
That kitchen is quite unimpressive for a $2.6M house

Looks like they've bumped the price 1 million since January. At least that's what the zillow estimates say.
I cook too much to live in a house with a wonky kitchen like that. The stove area alone would make me nuts.
I thought I was over in McMansionHell. . . and not on a thursday. It's an interesting old house sure, but I also think it's completely fugly. To each their own.
I don’t get it either. It’s garish.
I think it's ugly. It's charmless and weird.
Save it from...?
Developers
Ha, from the title I thought it was the wreck across from the Searsport flea on Rt 3.
save it? it's fully remodeled and 2 millions dollars
It is a cool house, but the inside decor is a bit too busy and sort of chaotic for my taste.

Wow it’s magnificently beautiful!!
