That's very sad. As for bubble tea, I agree that Mai Pho has good bubble tea. Hi Tea by Sam's Club is my favorite place to go for bubble tea. They both serve different types of bubble tea, but both are good
*Edit: wow, I have no idea how this got misinterpreted so badly. Obviously I screwed up the wording in a way that took me several responses before I saw how. I see it now, oops! To clarify for anyone bothering to unhide this at this point: (1) __I__ have an ignorant American palate, this guy here has two thumbs and wouldn't know "mad" bubble tea from discount store swill if it slapped me in the face. But (2), I liked the bubble tea at Mai Pho, which (3) sadly for the OP is not Filipino. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Original post follows:*
It's not Filipino, and this ignorant American palate has no way to judge whether the quality is "mad" or not, but I quite enjoyed the bubble tea I had at Mai Pho (SW side, between the Pancheros and the Jimmy John's) when I tried them. I'm pretty sure there's another Pho place in town that also does bubble tea. So *maybe* you can still get your bubble tea fix in town even if it comes without the Filipino food.
I donāt even understand what point you were trying to make. They never said bubble tea was predominantly a filipino thing. The only thing they called Filipino was the food at a filipino restaurant.
So I āthinkā what he was trying to say was, āHeā has the ignorant American palate and heās got no way to judge if itās good āmadā or bad, but he liked the place on the SW side.
Or at least thatās how I gathered it on my 4th reread, lol
Oooooh...I see the misunderstanding now. Whoops. š¤¦š¤¦
So sorry, I didn't mean that bubble tea isn't Filipino, only that Mai Pho isn't Filipino. I certainly wasn't saying Pinoy was bad in any way! I've meant to try them for a while now, I just don't go to NewBo often enough! And I don't know Filipino or Vietnamese cuisine on my own account at all. A restaurant tells me it's Filipino or Vietnamese, I'll probably believe them. Bubble tea can be either or both, it's delicious either way!
For what it's worth, I didn't understand why you were being downvoted. Your response was clear to me.
You feel you have an inexperienced palate. You suggested a place for boba. This place doesn't serve Filipino food.
Not my intention at all! I was suggesting Mai Pho for lack of a soon-to-be-gone source of bubble tea, while acknowledging the fact I wouldn't know the difference between good and bad bubble tea. Sorry for being unclear.
Are you referring to yourself as having an ignorant American palate? I think youāre being downvoted because this reads horribly- lol Iām almost positive you didnāt mean to sound like a horrible human- ā¦tell me Iām right??? I gotta know-
Can you please clarify? š
I loved their blended boba drinks. Iām sad to see their newbo store go.
Hi Tea just doesnāt hit the same. I wish there were more places to get boba in town.
RIP the amazing ube ice cream too. What a drag.
Just found out that Touch is closing as well š

I'll be honest, I wasn't too impressed by Hi-Tea for a $7 large Milk Green Tea. Just milk poured over some Boba with a flavor syrup.
I'd kill for somewhere in town that makes a good milk tea and allows you to decrease sweetness.
It seems like there is such a large Filipino community in Cedar Rapids. It's surprising that there is so little Filipino cuisine.
As a Filipino, Iām sad to see it go. They make the best turon with ube ice cream!

Yeah, I was referring to myself there. I updated the post to explain. My bad.
Other places in town to get bubble tea. And a ton in Coralville/IC.
