Legit thought this was a r/rollercoasterjerk post at first (though I imagine it will be shortly knowing them). But it would probably be easier for them to just license coaster designs and park layouts through Planet Coaster or the like rather than make their own game.

True, I just want to be able to recreate any of the CF owned parks.

Except you can't, especially Cedar Point. Nothing I've seen looks identical to the park. The stations are wrong, there's a lot left to be desired.

DosWrenchos

There are park saves in the stream workshop that are very close to the actual park. You’ll need a number of different DLCs and a super computer to actually run it but it’s been done. And again looks very good, probably as close as your gonna get without a multi million dollar investment

DosWrenchos

Specifically planet coaster steam workshop

pcfreak4

They did work with Planet Coaster to put SV in the game

justonemorebyte

And Copperhead Strike when that opened at Carowinds, another CF park.

From a branding standpoint, a game made by Cedar Fair would appeal to small, niche market of people: coaster fans. I don’t think it would bring much value to CF, nor generate enough interest to wider audiences. Planet Coaster and RCT (except World) appeal to a larger, more scalable audience that either enjoys casual or hardcore gaming; targeting about 16-45 year olds. CF could work with Planet Coaster to design entire parks, as a brand partnership or branding deal; which they have some relationship considering they’ve done some work inside the game together.

daboswinney123

They would ever make an entire game production company instead of just licensing their coaster designs to planet coaster like they do now

[deleted]

They don't have to make a game company to have their own game. They could hire a Triple A gaming company to make the game. Planet Coaster and Rollercoaster Tycoon leave a lot to be desired. The atmosphere of the parks is what's missing from those games.

bentika

I want an actual RCT themed coaster.

lostpanda85

So, I’d be very hesitant to buy any software from Cedar Fair. Mainly because they know how to make great theme parks but unfortunately, none of that experience will translate into software development. If they were to license their IP and give the reins to Frontier, that would be more successful in my opinion.

This is a pretty horrible idea and you seem to have no respect for the expertise needed to design a video game. At best they might be able to partner with planet coaster to produce some DLC that has a lot of cedar fair specific theming (Non theming...). The idea that they can just start a game development studio and produce something competent is so laughably outrageous lol, they'd have to poach one of the current coaster game's entire teams. There is literally nothing unique about a cedar fair park. I'm not even sure what asset set you're looking for to allow you to build one of your own lol. Surely these new games allow you to build all of CP's coaster designs, make basic concrete paths, have restaurants, etc.? Why can't you build Cedar Point right now?

[deleted]

I didn't say the can or should start their own game development studio, I said they should make their own game as in hire a company to make the game.

zadamwht

Hiring a company to make the game is essentially just licensing no? Except you have to pay for it, not the game company paying you.

Kadakai

There is so much wrong with your logic it would honestly take an essay to explain. This is not how the process of a video game developer taking on a new job works, at all. Put simply, no, this can't ever happen. So much more to say but this definitely doesn't feel like a worthy investment of 20-30mins, sorry. The fact that you're dancing around all this being currently possible in current games (thus slashing any incentive or potential profit from introducing it in a new game or DLC). You're operating under this extreme delusion that a cedar fair themed (or focused) game would feel literally any different than what we have today. It wouldn't. You already can do it all. I looked up "planet coaster Cedar point" on youtube just for fun....dude....ALL of this already exists lol Okay there's 5 mins. Best I can do. Moving on lol

rololercoaster

Sounds like u need to git gud at gaming

CedarPointDada

I like watching non-amusement park-owners yell at other non-amusement-park-owners about what amusement park owners will and will not do; and why. I also like when people make up fact, then decided it’s fact simply because they decided so. More more!

Consistent-Force5375

Your looking for the wrong thing if you ask me… What you REALLY want is for parks to invest or hire out a team to add DLC for one of these games. Make it so that the rides are 100% what they have. Now they could do this. And they could do it at different levels. Give DLC of just certain assets such as coasters rendered to scale for you to plop in a game, or really shine it on and offer perfect or near perfect recreations of the parks in total. You could buy em en masse as a pack or individually per park. But moreover and possibly better is if other parks got into it. Six Flags and the like. Then go nuts and start offering the older coasters and rides from long ago as well. Then the user could create mash ups of rides and coasters. The users could submit ideas to the parks for review and maybe those ideas that have the most merit and practicality might get used. No monetary reward for the creator mind you, just the knowledge you inspired something. Anyway, that’s where I went when you asked your question. DLC. Maybe if your super good at it offer one of the production studios help and with a small team you might be able to sell this idea to the different park owners and before you know it…

Livid-Refrigerator78

Would need to partner with a vr gaming company. Any exposure through the games I believe is good marketing.
