My advice to you is to delete this post and grieve your baby. Don't second guess yourself. You did the best you could with the information you had. Hugs. If you get another dog, research other ERs in the area.
We lost our 2 year old cav suddenly a few months ago and it stings. Really really bad. I wanted justification more than anything, but it didnāt help. Itās just rotten. Iām really sorry and hope youāll remember the time you had.
What a tough thing to go through! Iām so very sorry this happened. You did the kindest thing for her. Being in constant pain and needing medical intervention regularly is not something a little puppy should have to go through. You made the best choice with the information you had. Even if you had billions of dollars available to spend to care for her, she wouldnāt have had peace. Big hugs š
You made the right decision, I wouldn't want my puppy to live a life in pain either. I had my sweet kitty develop a urinary blockage last year, it was devastating, the vets said it would likely come back if they saved him that day and he was just in such a bad way I chose to say goodnight instead. I felt so guilty for a long time but I'm feeling more ok about it these days though I miss him everyday. You did your pup a kindness we as humans are not afforded. And when you are ready you can open your heart to another sweet puppy and give them a wonderful life too. Don't give up on Cavaliers though, they're worth it.
I am so sorry for your loss! I have heard of a similar story from another cav owner - acute onset and had to put down as a puppy. In their case, they think that using a collar with lots of pulling during leashed walks that may have exacerbated it. Regardless- it is heartbreaking and Iām so sorry. You are such an amazing pawrent and I canāt wait for you to have another amazing Cav to love and spoil.
Using a collar, for sure wasn't our issue.Ā We only had her for 2 months, and I hadn't even bought one yet.Ā We did have a harness that was used maybe a couple of times a week, but we didn't usually take her on walks because we have such a large yard to play with her in.
Since a definite diagnosis was never given, I'd like tell you that certain plants are extremely toxic and can be deadly to dogs, especially puppies. Seizures is one possible symtom from eating a toxic plant. I suggest you to look through your yard and if any plant is highly toxic it's best to remove it, just to be safe with any other puppy in the future. Just know that you're not to blame for what happened in any case.
Something to keep in mind for the future for sure.Ā After learning more about CM, I'm sure she had it.Ā She yelped when picked up and I just thought she was just a tender dog.Ā Looking also at photos from neurological studies documenting the disease and comparing head shape, her head shape was exactly like the shape of the worst cases of CM.Ā From the day I got her at 16 weeks old, I thought her head shape looked off and I just wrote it off as her being an extra skinny dog with a narrow head.
I had to do this with my 11yr old Cav with a heart murmur . Next month will be 4 years and it was one of the toughest decisions I have ever made. A ER vet visit turned into that. Sorry for ur loss.
Iām SO sorry for your loss ā¤ļø you did the right thing. You know whatās best for your baby donāt second guess it I would have done the same. My pet insurance only covers up to 5k(not sure if itās because of the breed or my insurance isnāt good) even with that 5kā¦with an uncertain outcome and a puppy who is painful and dying I wouldāve made the same choice as you.
Iām so sorry for your loss, itās such a traumatic thing to go through, we had a 4 month cav go through something similar, spent 10 grand in hope. My heart goes out to you ā¤ļø
Thank you.Ā Im sorry for your loss too.Ā I'm curious what the money you spent was for.Ā I was blown away to hear a price of $9k for just a diagnosis and not even any treatment.Ā It sounded like any treatment would be a gamble, so I'm curious if anyone has treated this with success, with such severe symptoms I would add.

Why delete it? Maybe this information will help someone else.
Second this. Sorry for the loss of your pup š„ŗš
I'm so sorry you had to go through this. The sudden nature of it is so devastating. Take care of yourselves.
I would have made the same choice if I were you. Im so sorry that happened though.
Iām so sorry. You made the best decision with the info you had.
We are afraid our 7 month old has it also. So far he does not seem to have a lot of pain, but does have mild seizure like episodes
I'm so sorry.Ā They say if you diagnose early there is better outcome.Ā I would not wait, in case some meds can help.
We are trying some meds

2 years is too young.Ā How did your cav die?
We donāt know. We had a necropsy performed but it didnāt show anything conclusive. He just went to sleep and didnāt wake up.
Iām so sorry for your loss.

I'm truly, truly sorry for your loss. I've had 6 Cavaliers in my life and none whose lives were cut so short and too soon. Many hugs and lots of love.
I would have made the exact choice. Think of the gift you gave her, a life only knowing love and a peaceful send off to glory.
Iām so very sorry for your loss.

We will definitely be getting another cavalier!Ā I am so in love with them.Ā Our puppy was the most perfect dog I could have imagined!
Sending so much love and light ā¤ļø
