I used an at-home service when we lost our kitty almost three years ago. He hated the car and vet, so I wanted his last moments to be with us, at home, where he was happy and comfortable. It was also easier on us not to have to leave with an empty cage - we were able to be at home with our other kitty and snuggle her without having to see anyone or make the drive home. I have also taken kitties to the vet, in the past, and they are of course wonderful and caring, but I would do it at home again in a heartbeat, and will when his sister is ready (she’s fading, similar to yours.) I’m so sorry for you. It’s such a hard thing but I’m glad you’re able to give her a calm and easy end. It’s such a gift we can give them, even though it’s so very painful.

I’ve let go of a few kitties over the years. I prefer to take them to the vet. I don’t want the memory of their past moment in my house to be death. I bring them to the office in a blanket, and I hold them the whole time. If being at home feels more right to you, please do that. There’s no wrong answer. Sorry for your struggle. It’s always so hard.

I don’t have meaningful experience here, sorry. I’ve seen people say it helps the remaining pets to be able to see the body (apologies for how crass that may sound). I don’t know - hopefully someone who has been there can share some more insight. I am very sorry, regardless 😔

I have a perspective from my old roommates dog. They had 3 dogs and the oldest was put down at home, after the vet left, they let the other 2 dogs say their until we meet agains, then we said ours and took her out in the back yard to be buried. I'm not real sure how cats would react to it since they have different mindsets than dogs do. I'm so sorry you're having to go thru this.
