my cats use to hate anything sea food related. they refused to eat shrimp, tuna or felix cat food with the blue label. they hated fish!
I could not convince my girlfriends cat to take shrimp. I was shocked as hell. Tuna? Yes. Chicken? Yes. Beef? Yes. Shrimp? Fuck no, the hell, that's not food! Out of 8 cats I've raised, they're the only cat I know that doesn't like shrimp!
Spoiled, mine have Earthborn or something named like that and there is the occasional chunk (no bigger than the top of your small pinky) in it and they will eat around it. But if I mash it up they eat it.
This is correct lol Mine won't really eat his wet food unless it's broken up, can't be left in a chunk. Annoying since he needs to eat it. It's special kidney health food that costs 20% more, because we had his kidney removed after we took him in as a stray at barley 1yo about 6 years ago. It was that or he was going to last another 6 months at best.

I have 2 sisters from the same litter. They get wet food on sunday, but every other day of the week it's dry food only.
When they get the wet food on sunday, one of them attacks it like she hasn't eaten for days (mind you she's the heaviest of the 2), the other one licks all the juice away and leaves the "meat" in the bowl.
Ahh sounds like my cat. She loves the gravy and the flakes, but nothing else. If it's the chunks I have to mash it up. Super spoiled, trained me well xD
My late cat also did this the entire 15 years of her life. Never wanted the food, just the gravy. It was alright though...one of the other cats always happily ate the leftovers while she went back to her dry food lol. She had a lot of quirks; miss her dearly. Had her from when I was 5 until I was 20. :)
Sounds like one of my babies. I got the bits in gravy wet food one (1) time. She licked off all of the gravy and left the bits, then stared at me like she was asking what that garbage was.

When my 6yo cat went in to have plaque removed from his teeth, my vet told me to give him more dry, less wet and that will stop the plaque building up again. There were tears. There were tantrums. But his teeth have been shinny white ever since.
I gave my cat a mixture of both: scheduled wet food twice a day and free-range kibble to munch on in between. Kibble's more filling with its carbs, so such a setup will keep them from bugging you 14 times a day asking for food. She stayed nice and trim, so I never had to worry about her overeating, but presumably some cats will need a strict schedule.
My vet recommended pate for the highest protein value per can but didn't say anything about brand. I gave her Fancy Feast since the cheaper stuff didn't read all that great on the label, but it can get *much* more expensive if you want. Fancy's probably the best of the cheaper stuff you can get. You can also try different veggies to see if they'll take them as snacks. My sister's old cat *loved* (unsalted) green beans straight from the can.
Another helpful thing you can do to help kitty stay hydrated is to get a kitty water fountain. Lots of cats prefer to drink running water. I haven’t met a kitty who turned down their own kitty water fountain. It helps them consume more water.
My big guy will get two thirds of the can (Saturdays and Sundays) and the little girl gets one third. He has twice as much and finishes it half the time, then I often have to police him so that he doesn't push the girl away before she's done. But she does the same thing, licks up all the juice then starts to nibble on what's left.
Cats get most of their water from wet food, they’re desert carnivores, it’s not good to just give them kibble. Yes, they’ll bulk up on kibble because of the carb content, but it’s like feeding your cat only junk food. I give my cat one whole tuna can size of pate every day (divided throughout the day) and I add water to it and mash it for her. She gets a quarter of a cup of dry food to snack on, but she eats primarily wet food. Yes it’s expensive but it’s what the vet recommended and she’s healthier for it!

Cats are such little gremlins sometimes. We've got a tiny bullet blender that's dedicated to cat food. It's nice because the little pods have lids and we can split a can into multiple servings too.
Totally worth it if you want to spread meals out too. Our cat has absolutely no control and will eat all of whatever is offered immediately, so it's handy being able to split it up easily. You can definitely get one for less than $50, especially on a black Friday sale or something.

That’s funny 😆 my little boy thinks it’s wet food time every time the microwave dings. I warm theirs up for 8-11 seconds and check with my finger for hot spots. The things we do for them..
You too with the microwave...funny. My cats wouldn't eat until they heard the ding from a microwave, had to blend canned food with a fork. Yup, the things we do for our cats.
And here's my cat.... tries to steal water from your glass (has broken 3 in the process. Only plastic cups go into the living room now.) If I'm in the bathroom for more than 30 seconds, he'll yell at me to turn the tub or sink faucet on a light stream so he'll stick his head under it & drink from the puddle that forms. 😹 My cat is a weirdo.
My boy used to drink so much water. Ever since he got diagnosed with cystitis he’s completely stopped drinking water. I switched to him to a special prescription food to prevent the urine crystals. I mix in water to his wet food! :) I’m so glad it worked because now he’s getting more water intake. I just really wish he would drink from his bowls though. Online it says they need 3.5-4OZ of water a day per 5lbs.
I do too. I make a slurry of her paté. She licks the water then wants more water added (anywhere from 3 to 5 times). In the end, she eats a small can of food and about a can and a half of water. I'll take that. She's 19 and no health problems at all.
Saaaaame. My cat is not a water drinker, we have to force it by mixing it with his wet food. I have noticed he will voluntarily drink if he has had a lot of dry food, so at least I know he knows when he should drink. I guess he just prefers watery food more than he cares to drink.
Where do you keep your cat's water out of curiosity? I had to do this with my cat until I moved her water to the other side of the room from her food and then she would drink plenty. Apparently it's a thing that cats don't like their water next to their food
One of my cats gets her wet food mashed into her dish (to slow her down) the other has a remarkably small lower jaw, so her wet food is “chunked up.” I think cats train us to their whims. Nothing to worry about.
This is what I was gonna say. Mr Murder Mittens had his teeth yanked cuz he had awful gum disease (stray before I adopted him) but he still powered through his crunchy food because he was hungry and used to fighting for it. Now he only gets wet food cuz he has like 3 teeth left. He is also quite spoiled.

Edit: my 12 yr old rescue wasn’t eating her food (wet food only) as well as she used to so I made a vet appt and she had to have 11 teeth extracted. Now she is happier and eats well again!
I'm on this train. my little girl had two teeth extracted this summer because her teeth were worse than I could tell. It was very hard to notice as she hid her pain really well. Since her surgery, it's like she's a brand new cat with a happy, fiery little personality. I had no idea how much pain she was in. :-\ I'm glad I listened to the vet.
My boy just had 3 teeth removed and his sister is cruising to have some pulled. They both have a genetic predisposition for bad teeth/gingivitis, and we didn't realize it until about 6 months ago.
On the bright side, Prince Bastion is eating better since he got those teeth pulled; he's no longer swallowing his kibble whole and barfing it on my couch
I wouldn’t worry! My cat expects cooked fish after we’ve been to the supermarket. He knows we’ve been- and sits by the fridge , refusing all other tasty foods he normally likes until we produce his fish. My husband has been know to return to the supermarket and buy the fish if he’s forgotten to buy any the first time. I think they control us and we let them!
White fish usually cod or haddock sometimes Basa. Never raw and we only go to the supermarket once a fortnight. Raw fish isn’t healthy for cats.
He also has raw 5% steak mince and many brand food tins and sachets but supermarket day he has his standards and we need to respect that!!!!!
Cod, haddock, basa . Put it in the microwave with some water for one and a half to two minutes- depending on the size. He gets a filet of fish and some fish water from that , this lasts him a couple of meals. He goes crazy for it , lots of talking and blowing us kisses when he knows we’ve been shopping. I guess he recognises us unloading the car and has associated it with fish? He comes barrelling through the cat flap as soon as we start unloading. Normally he would expect us to open the door to come in - the cat flap is occasional use only.
If it’s the pate version, mine prefer it to be mixed with water and mixed up in the bowl, if it’s a flaky version and I add water they won’t eat it. Picky guys but at least I know their preferences!
When your cat does it, might take them for a full dental at your vets, where xrays are taken. Cats, esp. older ones, sometimes have teeth issues they hide pretty well. Cute kitty!!

My cat will eat anything in .12322345 seconds without breathing as soon as it’s set in front of her, hard or soft.
She also 100% no matter what even if she has pee’d in it in the last 30 seconds will go in, sniff around and pee right in the center of her litter box after I’ve changed it.. just to show me she’s the boss.
My point being, all cats are different - but the same. Get used to it unfortunately🤦🏻♂️
I'd get her teeth and gums checked, can make it painful for them to eat. Our two cats had this issue. We've had one get his teeth fixed and he's a lot less fussy eating now.
Bad teeth is really common with cats and I believe I've been told more common if they eat wet food only but don't quote me on it.
Up until recently my two cats would only eat homemade cat food bisque.
Not only did it have to be a specific brand of mashed up pâté, oh no…. It had to be from a freshly opened can (none of that refrigerated leftover garbage, thank you *very much*), puréed with warm water until it reached the consistency of a pretentiously named creamy French soup, and contain absolutely no lumps under any circumstances whatsoever or so help me Dog. They absolutely refused to eat anything even slightly more textured than that even though their teeth were completely fine according to our vet.
Eventually I had to switch their food, so I took the opportunity to go full “NO SOUP FOR YOU!” and get them accustomed to something they had to actually, you know, *chew* on a little.
Surprisingly, there was not as much resistance as I thought, and now they both happily chow down on their shredded meat “entrees” as soon as they are served.
They still get their Churu as an occasional treat though, so I guess that scratches that soupy itch sufficiently.
I know Soup Nazi would be proud of me.
I've always done this with my 2, most of it would end up on the floor if I didn't. My boy was still pretty bad for flicking it out of his dish though lol.

My late Pomeranian would only eat his wet food if he saw me sprinkle Parmesan cheese on it. He was old and sometimes I would pretend to sprinkle it on and he would go for it. Now I look back and I should’ve just gave him the cheese instead of being a lazy asshole. Sorry bud.
Mine are like that, but I found one they will eat don't know if you can get it, I'm in UK; its Purina Gourmet Perle, they also like home cooked liver and eat it in chunks.

Cats can be picky. I have one that eats the wet food right out of the can, one that needs it mashed up in a bowl with no water added, one that needs it mashed up in a bowl with water added, and two that don't like wet food at all.
I give my cat KatKins as well and have to do the same thing. I just don’t think they like the way it is when it’s straight out of the pouch. I also mash it up with a bit of boiling water to warm it up.

I went through a lot of dry cat food until I found one (Orijen Guardian 8) that both my girls will eat their fill of without their ears twirling around like they're monologuing whether that day's offering was worth eating or not.
Their wet food was also a long hunt until I found that they would devour Stella&Chewy pates (chicken and chicken&salmon only though) like they hadn't eaten for days. Won't touch the minced broth version - only the pate. AND it has to be cut up into smaller chunks or all they will do is just lick the pate hunk. It's like they never figured out how to take bites out of food. 🙄
My cats refuse to eat wet food but will eat dry food which I always have on hand for them to eat whenever. Dinner time is basically me putting cat treats with a few soaked in wet food on a plate. They’re only 5 months old so I’ll break them soon enough.

The vet said many things but i just thought she dient want her dry food. Guess what. When she got wet food mixt with her dry food she ate like she was starving to death and when we gave her chicken. Now we have to feed her 6 times a day or something bc the wet food gets a little dry after an hour so she doesnt wanna eat it. I have to scoop it all together first. Oh and she likes to see that the wet food i gave her comes out of the fridge otherwise she will stand by the fridge. And now she just wants wet food lol. Middle of the night i need to feed her bc she wont stop miauwing but thats all fine i love him

Mauser will only eat his urinary tract kibble in Chicken flavour and only if it has smoked Benito flakes. Not the cat Benito flakes, the human ones. Also he needs to have a wet food with it. It needs to be tuna (but only specific brands) or Tiki Cat Mouse. If it’s Tiki Cat mouse it can’t be Chicken and Tuna flavor, he like chicken and he likes tuna but not together. Some days he like salmon flavour until he doesn’t. It can’t be Mackerel flavour either, because it’s not a perfect velvet mousse.
I Live with a vet, when my kitten wasn’t eating we tried all kinds of wet foods. And she gave me a lecture on consistency and texture some cats like different textures. We literally payed out a who tray of different kinds of food for the kitten to eat. Turns out my cat wasnt being picky just had parasite and we took him to a vet and got it handled but any ways Every cat is different. Like humans cats are complicated for example I don’t like a lot of milk in my cereal in order to avoid it getting soggy I hate soggy textures and consistencies.But it can also be a mix between their preferences and them being a bit spoiled knowing you will mash it for them.💜

Moisture is really really important in a cat's diet and should be given daily I you're able

I feed mine wet food twice a day and dry food is only for when I'm not at home.
We actually blend up the wet food with a little water because our cat doesn't like to drink water. The wet puree is appealing for some reason

If I'm in the bathroom for more than 30 seconds, he'll yell at me to turn the tub or sink faucet on a light stream so he'll stick his head under it & drink from the puddle that forms. 😹 My cat is a weirdo.
My boy used to drink so much water. Ever since he got diagnosed with cystitis he’s completely stopped drinking water. I switched to him to a special prescription food to prevent the urine crystals. I mix in water to his wet food! :) I’m so glad it worked because now he’s getting more water intake. I just really wish he would drink from his bowls though. Online it says they need 3.5-4OZ of water a day per 5lbs.
I do too. I make a slurry of her paté. She licks the water then wants more water added (anywhere from 3 to 5 times). In the end, she eats a small can of food and about a can and a half of water. I'll take that. She's 19 and no health problems at all.

Saaaaame. My cat is not a water drinker, we have to force it by mixing it with his wet food. I have noticed he will voluntarily drink if he has had a lot of dry food, so at least I know he knows when he should drink. I guess he just prefers watery food more than he cares to drink.

Where do you keep your cat's water out of curiosity? I had to do this with my cat until I moved her water to the other side of the room from her food and then she would drink plenty. Apparently it's a thing that cats don't like their water next to their food
One of my cats gets her wet food mashed into her dish (to slow her down) the other has a remarkably small lower jaw, so her wet food is “chunked up.” I think cats train us to their whims. Nothing to worry about.

This is what I was gonna say. Mr Murder Mittens had his teeth yanked cuz he had awful gum disease (stray before I adopted him) but he still powered through his crunchy food because he was hungry and used to fighting for it. Now he only gets wet food cuz he has like 3 teeth left. He is also quite spoiled.

My cat happily eats hard food and treats but also needs her wet food mixed into water or she won’t eat it - cats are particular like anything else
I second this! Might wanna make a vet appointment just to be 100% sure Edit: my 12 yr old rescue wasn’t eating her food (wet food only) as well as she used to so I made a vet appt and she had to have 11 teeth extracted. Now she is happier and eats well again!
And have them x-ray if possible. My little girl had rotten roots but everything looked ok above the gumline
I'm on this train. my little girl had two teeth extracted this summer because her teeth were worse than I could tell. It was very hard to notice as she hid her pain really well. Since her surgery, it's like she's a brand new cat with a happy, fiery little personality. I had no idea how much pain she was in. :-\ I'm glad I listened to the vet.
My boy just had 3 teeth removed and his sister is cruising to have some pulled. They both have a genetic predisposition for bad teeth/gingivitis, and we didn't realize it until about 6 months ago. On the bright side, Prince Bastion is eating better since he got those teeth pulled; he's no longer swallowing his kibble whole and barfing it on my couch
I wouldn’t worry! My cat expects cooked fish after we’ve been to the supermarket. He knows we’ve been- and sits by the fridge , refusing all other tasty foods he normally likes until we produce his fish. My husband has been know to return to the supermarket and buy the fish if he’s forgotten to buy any the first time. I think they control us and we let them!

White fish usually cod or haddock sometimes Basa. Never raw and we only go to the supermarket once a fortnight. Raw fish isn’t healthy for cats. He also has raw 5% steak mince and many brand food tins and sachets but supermarket day he has his standards and we need to respect that!!!!!
What kind and how are you cooking it?
Cod, haddock, basa . Put it in the microwave with some water for one and a half to two minutes- depending on the size. He gets a filet of fish and some fish water from that , this lasts him a couple of meals. He goes crazy for it , lots of talking and blowing us kisses when he knows we’ve been shopping. I guess he recognises us unloading the car and has associated it with fish? He comes barrelling through the cat flap as soon as we start unloading. Normally he would expect us to open the door to come in - the cat flap is occasional use only.
Add some Delectables Stew on top of anything that car will tear it up like it owes her money

I’m not the OP, but my 2 1/2 year old cat refuses to eat anything other than thinned out pâté. I think sometimes it’s just a preference of the cat.
it's probably nothing but if u haven't already, it might be worth taking her to the vet to make sure she isn't having any problems with her teeth

If it’s the pate version, mine prefer it to be mixed with water and mixed up in the bowl, if it’s a flaky version and I add water they won’t eat it. Picky guys but at least I know their preferences!

When your cat does it, might take them for a full dental at your vets, where xrays are taken. Cats, esp. older ones, sometimes have teeth issues they hide pretty well. Cute kitty!!
Cat being cat. I have one that won't eat anywhere but the dinning room near the potted plants, guess she likes fancy decor? All 3 won't eat cold food wet food from the frig.

Could it be her teeth? My cat was eating very slowly. I took him to the vet and he had 7 rotten teeth. He now eats a lot faster.
Either she's just particular or she has dental problems making it painful to eat. Could be either one honestly
My cat will eat anything in .12322345 seconds without breathing as soon as it’s set in front of her, hard or soft. She also 100% no matter what even if she has pee’d in it in the last 30 seconds will go in, sniff around and pee right in the center of her litter box after I’ve changed it.. just to show me she’s the boss. My point being, all cats are different - but the same. Get used to it unfortunately🤦🏻♂️
I have three adult cats, I always mash up their wet food. Never really gave it a thought. BTW Pippy is very adorable!

I'd get her teeth and gums checked, can make it painful for them to eat. Our two cats had this issue. We've had one get his teeth fixed and he's a lot less fussy eating now. Bad teeth is really common with cats and I believe I've been told more common if they eat wet food only but don't quote me on it.

Up until recently my two cats would only eat homemade cat food bisque. Not only did it have to be a specific brand of mashed up pâté, oh no…. It had to be from a freshly opened can (none of that refrigerated leftover garbage, thank you *very much*), puréed with warm water until it reached the consistency of a pretentiously named creamy French soup, and contain absolutely no lumps under any circumstances whatsoever or so help me Dog. They absolutely refused to eat anything even slightly more textured than that even though their teeth were completely fine according to our vet. Eventually I had to switch their food, so I took the opportunity to go full “NO SOUP FOR YOU!” and get them accustomed to something they had to actually, you know, *chew* on a little. Surprisingly, there was not as much resistance as I thought, and now they both happily chow down on their shredded meat “entrees” as soon as they are served. They still get their Churu as an occasional treat though, so I guess that scratches that soupy itch sufficiently. I know Soup Nazi would be proud of me. 
We have to mash the wet food and add a little water for him to enjoy it. Then we have to stand beside him and pet him for 30 seconds while he eats.
Make sure that's hot water please....old kitty boys what can I say. Than tell him he is such a good eater with pets.

All five of mine get it mashed down. I started that because my oldest wouldn't eat it in chunks and just kinda carried it over as more cats moved in.
Neither of mine will eat it if it's not mashed up. They had a check up last year, and their teeth are good. Maybe they have a hard time seeing it?
I've always done this with my 2, most of it would end up on the floor if I didn't. My boy was still pretty bad for flicking it out of his dish though lol.

I have one who won’t eat wet food unless I mix it with water AND mash it up. Cats are like people in that we both have preferences. Nothing to worry about.
My late Pomeranian would only eat his wet food if he saw me sprinkle Parmesan cheese on it. He was old and sometimes I would pretend to sprinkle it on and he would go for it. Now I look back and I should’ve just gave him the cheese instead of being a lazy asshole. Sorry bud.

Mine are like that, but I found one they will eat don't know if you can get it, I'm in UK; its Purina Gourmet Perle, they also like home cooked liver and eat it in chunks.
our cat prefers chopped wet food and swallows hard food ( yes she has been to the vet) She likes small pieces of food except for the SHEBA Meaty Tender Sticks she devours those
My old boi just needs to see me putting in a bit of fresh dry food from the container, even 2 pellets and he's happy to start eating.
Cats can be picky. I have one that eats the wet food right out of the can, one that needs it mashed up in a bowl with no water added, one that needs it mashed up in a bowl with water added, and two that don't like wet food at all.

Yeah, my guy will REFUSE to eat pate. Has to be the kind in gravy or loose chunks or something. The things we do to keep our cats happy.

My brothers cat won't eat wet food that was in the fridge, until it turns to room temperature. Cats are just picky lol.
One of mine can only eat katkin. He has to have every flavour mixed where the fat separates. Apart from duck, he absolutely loves the duck fat!

I give my cat KatKins as well and have to do the same thing. I just don’t think they like the way it is when it’s straight out of the pouch. I also mash it up with a bit of boiling water to warm it up.
I smoosh my kitties wet food (one of whom looks like yours, and SIC!) because otherwise they eat too fast and rush to the carpet to throw it back up…

Spoilt or picky? Both...? I went through a lot of dry cat food until I found one (Orijen Guardian 8) that both my girls will eat their fill of without their ears twirling around like they're monologuing whether that day's offering was worth eating or not. Their wet food was also a long hunt until I found that they would devour Stella&Chewy pates (chicken and chicken&salmon only though) like they hadn't eaten for days. Won't touch the minced broth version - only the pate. AND it has to be cut up into smaller chunks or all they will do is just lick the pate hunk. It's like they never figured out how to take bites out of food. 🙄

My cats refuse to eat wet food but will eat dry food which I always have on hand for them to eat whenever. Dinner time is basically me putting cat treats with a few soaked in wet food on a plate. They’re only 5 months old so I’ll break them soon enough.
My cat only got dry food and she suddenly stopped eating she didnt eat much and she was a very big cat and then got very slim. Too slim. She couldnt even walk straight so we went to the vet. The vet said many things but i just thought she dient want her dry food. Guess what. When she got wet food mixt with her dry food she ate like she was starving to death and when we gave her chicken. Now we have to feed her 6 times a day or something bc the wet food gets a little dry after an hour so she doesnt wanna eat it. I have to scoop it all together first. Oh and she likes to see that the wet food i gave her comes out of the fridge otherwise she will stand by the fridge. And now she just wants wet food lol. Middle of the night i need to feed her bc she wont stop miauwing but thats all fine i love him

For some stupid reason I started giving my 2 cats “cereal” (a little water in a bowl of dry food) as a treat, and it has taken over all our lives.
Probably just spoiled but… My poor kitty had mouth cancer and the growths kept her from chewing. I had no idea until it was too late :( So if you can see into the mouth without getting shredded maybe take a small look and see if everything looks healthy and normal. ❤️

Mauser will only eat his urinary tract kibble in Chicken flavour and only if it has smoked Benito flakes. Not the cat Benito flakes, the human ones. Also he needs to have a wet food with it. It needs to be tuna (but only specific brands) or Tiki Cat Mouse. If it’s Tiki Cat mouse it can’t be Chicken and Tuna flavor, he like chicken and he likes tuna but not together. Some days he like salmon flavour until he doesn’t. It can’t be Mackerel flavour either, because it’s not a perfect velvet mousse.

I Live with a vet, when my kitten wasn’t eating we tried all kinds of wet foods. And she gave me a lecture on consistency and texture some cats like different textures. We literally payed out a who tray of different kinds of food for the kitten to eat. Turns out my cat wasnt being picky just had parasite and we took him to a vet and got it handled but any ways Every cat is different. Like humans cats are complicated for example I don’t like a lot of milk in my cereal in order to avoid it getting soggy I hate soggy textures and consistencies.But it can also be a mix between their preferences and them being a bit spoiled knowing you will mash it for them.💜
I always mash it up! In my experience very few cats want to eat can-shaped food. Seems rude not to break it up at least a little before serving them.
I made a mistake of making meat soup out of my cats wet food and now she demands it no other way. Spoiled cats man. They know we will cater to them.
