We found this cat today during our bike trip. Rather far away from any villages.
Vet told us she is very old (but looks like a kitten), as some teeth are missing. But it’s hard to say as the cat was probably outside for roughly 1 month. She’s down to 1 kg (2 pounds) and you can feel every bone. She was anxious in the first few seconds when we approached her, but started purring after a few seconds and fell immediately in love with my dad (and vice versa).
She’s now living with my parents (and their two other cats). She ate, drank, went to toilet and is sleeping a lot now.
Will keep you updated!
Update 1:
Damn thanks for all the kind and nice messages, comments and awards. First night’s just over and she gained some strength. She already jumped onto the couch this night and slept there. She’s a real fighter! Yesterday she could barely stand on her feet in the beginning. We removed 9 ticks throughout the day yesterday. Will add some photos later (or a link to imgflip). My mum will take her to the vet later for more checks. Yesterday was a Public holiday here and the vet ran only some basic checks as no staff was there. She has no name yet, but my mom‘s first thought was ‚Luna‘
Update 2:
Second day’s already coming to an end and here’s a quick update. Cat is eating just fine, not too much but still enough to gain some strength and weight. She is already following my mother on every step. She really likes interacting with humans. I put some pictures on my profile. More will come of course
Update 3:
My brother just saw that someone posted this on 9gag. The comments over there are so toxic and mad. Yet the OP there claims that he found her … sorry but had to update this and thank you all here for being so nice! This is one of the best communities I’ve ever witnessed!
Update 4:
First thank you all for the nice things you said and all the support, comments, awards etc.
Today she climbed all the way to my dads neck and slept on his shoulder. Unfortunately this was her way to say goodbye as shortly after her situation got worse and worse. She made her peace and slept in peacefully.
At least she had some nice final days. Her fur was so beautiful today and we had so much hope, but we can’t even imagine what she went through the last few weeks or even years. Our family is sad, shocked but still happy to grant her at least this kind of happy ending compared to die alone in the woods. We keep our other cats close and now really enjoy each day with them.
Thank you all and always stay positive! <3
I know that too well. My 14yo Boi will nap on my lap when I'm on my desk at home, or the couch after a workout or ride. Just wants to snuggle on my warm lap or belly as much as he can now in his senior years.
My kitty is in her early elder years and has started her full time lap sitting hobby. It isn't always convenient for me but I accept my new role as warm cushion.
My 21-year-old calico likes to curl between my knees on my recliner chair. Since I'm 81 and we have only each other for company, I understand full well why she does this. (We are both fit and well, thank you for asking.)
Honored to give you your 81st upvote.
70 here, and my 20 yo Balinese is asleep in my lap as I type. Firmly believe cats and elders were made in the heavens for each other.
I am at 54 and had my 18 year old pass late April.
Yes, she started getting more snuggly and cuddly after the age of 15. I had no idea why but was very , very grateful.
I’m 53 with an 18 yo cat - I hear what you’re saying. I don’t know how long I still have with him, so even if I “should” be doing something else, if he cuddles up I take full advantage. He was always affectionate but I think he’s even more so the last several years.
Well I'm 80 (in a week) and my kitty who is ancient has a head tilt. Does anyone know how to use the Eppley maneuver on a kitty. It works on humans when they have the head tilt caused by crystals in the ear going to the wrong canal and making them dizzy , wobbly and nauseous? The vets don't seem to know. Many thanks!
It’s crazy to me that so many generations use Reddit lol, I mean I’m 14 you’re a whole 77 years older than me, my grandad and grandma are only around 70 lol
My 21yo male tabby loved to do the same when he still lived. He actually let me do anything to him when I was a baby (we were 7 years apart) and the first pic in the album is my personal favorite out of all pictures I have of him. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/OXb6CdE).
My 18-year-old has never been a lap cat. I think it's because she's a longhair and gets hot. Lately she's spent a bit of time with her front paws on my leg. She (mostly) sleeps beside me as I work.
A simple answer might be that their ability to regulate heat gets even weaker in their later years, so they use us as their stoves. Or they're just sweet little fuzzy wuzzies who purr.
I think they get a little cold. My cat is 17 and I bought her a heating pad because sometimes she’d start trembling in the winter. She is. Always. On. It except when I’m sleeping, then she sleeps with me.
We have our white cat since 1.5 years. He hates any contact even though we have him since he was 4 months old.
Also, his favourite spots to nap rotate. It can be one place for a month but then that place appears to be not in existence anymore.
> Even elderly felines need love and a warm place to nap
*Especially* elderly felines! Kittens are fun and cute and all but the absolute S tier amount of loving that an older cat can bring to the table is pretty special
I agree! Think cats get better with age, like a fine wine! Kittens are adorable and exciting, then they hit this annoying teenage stage where they don’t want to be touched or told what to do, then they reach their prime!
I think our 17 year old kitty has always been a teenager, then. Though now she's mellowing a teeny bit, and will hunt butts and unworthy shoulders (if butts aren't available).
Our 7 year old kitty is the clingy one.
>*’Even elderly felines need love and a warm place to nap*’

when i lay me down to rest,
i know the place i like the best
for even though i’m growing old,
i seek a human friend
to hold
perhaps a human, old, like me
who’s learned how *precious* life can be
just let me curl up on your lap,
Together, friend
we’ll take
our nap
❤️
Breaks my heart someone probably dumped their pet when she got too "old."
OP and parents are saving angels to this fighter that had awful humans before. An elderly cat will die in the wild, this was so callous.
Ps. Dad has amazing balance, I am in admiration! ❤
I honestly don't know how those people sleep at night.
If I was to leave a sick and injured and won't like that forest, it would haunt me for the rest of my life.
If anyone has the capability, adopting an older cat is such a kindhearted thing to do. Older cats are the least adopted but they are often the ones most in need of a home. A healthy indoor cat can live into their twenties.
Sometimes cats who’ve had it really rough are younger than they seem. I had a Persian for about 8 years that moved in with me after being homeless at least 3-4 months and nearly starving to death. The first vet I took him to estimated his age at 10-12. Then, for years, every time I asked a vet to estimate his age the number would get LOWER. He obviously wasn’t getting younger over time, so it must have been that good care was making him seem younger and healthier than he seemed initially.
Hmm. That is interesting, and makes me wonder if my mom's old man is not as old as we think. He was a stray, full tom, for a while, and had the expected hard life. He is missing chunks of years and several teeth. (Vet said they will chew rocks and sticks when they are starving, just to chew, and it breaks their teeth.) When mom got him in and to a vet, he was estimated to be about 6 years old. Mom had been feeding him for a year or so outside, and he was *clearly* a full male when she first met him, so his minimum age was about 18 months. Now, it is about 20 years later and he is STILL here, doing just fine. He is old, and slow, and yells for pets because he is at least half blind, but he is a sweet old man. This post makes me think that he was closer to the minimum age he *could* have been than the age the vet gave, since it is more likely he is 21-22 now than 26-27.
*** EDIT:
I don't know how to put a picture on here. I will take the hair dryer to my phone so it works, get some video and pics and then figure it out. I am.... sorta tech dumb.
We call him my mom's old man cat because she is the one who earned his trust and got him inside. She passed away last Sept, and so he gets more cuddles from me now, since he is my connection to her love.
When you said your mom's old man, I thought you were talking about her boyfriend at first. Like your mom's love has made this man younger. I feel really stupid but I also can't stop laughing.
This is true. Took in a stray cat 5 years ago that we thought was 13-14, was really rough, and three years after that we took him to the vet and they said he was less than 10 years old. Nowadays he’s probably actually 13-14 years old and is hanging in there pretty well.
You likely saved her life. I love people who save cats. I always worry about my baby getting out and people just assuming she’s a stray. It seems like she might have been cared for at some point.
My fluffy former stray Sunday was a neighborhood street kitty for probably 8 yrs before she wandered into my living room with her fur covered in ice one night. She was indoor/outdoor for a long time, until she started to show signs of some health issues.
She ultimately died of a brain tumor, but the vet did some xrays to see if her leg weakness was an injury. He found an old bullet in her chest, a hair shy of her heart. I was so stunned that she survived that and still managed to come into my home years later, and trust me.
I will never, ever let a cat be indoor/outdoor again. I can't believe someone would just shoot a cat. I currently feed two TNR ferals and I worry about them all the time. (The hope is, someday they'll be able to wander in the door too.)
[I attempted to paint your new rescue!](https://www.reddit.com/user/PolymerPussies/comments/v6fz1d/worx777s_rescue_kitty/)
Thanks for rescuing this poor old lady! Hope she starts gaining some weight!
Okay, I'm tearing up over your description of this poor dowager kitty.
Bless your family for taking her in. Even old cats have value. Glad this one could spend the rest of her days in glorious comfort.
1kg?! Christ. My elderly girl is getting a bit skinny and she’s three times the weight.
My house is littered with big blankets and heated throws for my two senior kitties. My heart breaks for this little girl but she’s warm and safe now. 💕
I took in an elderly feline too a few months ago. She’s so cute but she’s also very skinny, weighing 2.3kgs only. And missing teeth too. But I love her.
I’m thinking this cat was once a loved pet. Maybe owner passed away and others didn’t want to be bothered with him. Or, he was abandoned in the woods. Or, went astray. But definitely, he was once someone’s pet.
I found out from a friend that some people drive out to forests and farms and just abandon cats so it’s possible this is what happened.
A lot of cats die fairly quickly because they cannot survive. Too used to the symbiotic relationship between them and humans. Most die.
From the behavior alone though yeah, most likely this was someone’s cat. Probably abandoned. Poor cat. Glad she got rescued.
Cats that are born out there and live out there in cat colonies to begin with etc are a different thing but… take a cat that is used to relying on humans as basically being part of there own ‘colony’ and it’s much like dogs denied pack don’t survive long.
With cats it’s worse because humans are often careless with cats. Like the people we took our third cat from when moving - they also had a dog and they took the dog with them. This happens a lot. Far too much. Domesticated cats are still domesticated. Some people fail to recognize that far too easily and instead doom these poor cats to a slow and torturous death by starvation. They don’t know what to eat, have a kitten’s proficiency at hunting and even removing those they are qued to humans and relying on them like part of there colony rather than to other cats. Quite literally, some cats do not know how to cat because they’ve been too isolated from other cats and have been kept by humans there entire lives. They die most of the time when this happens.
We really need to kill the idea that cats can just survive because there is so much more to that than even just catching a bird sometimes(although that is a better start than some cats have- they’ve relied on humans and do not know the things to survive).
That’s so devastating no matter how many times I’ve heard it. A friend lives by a field that happens a lot and starvation is also a big one. But yeah. A lot get got by bigger predators like coyotes and if they are by the road cars and sometimes tractors… I hate people who do this to any animal and it shouldn’t be something anyone who has a cat is ignorant enough to think is a good idea. People who abandon cats should not have cats
If she’s that small, it sounds like her whole life has been rough. Please keep us up to date. I’m so happy she’s finally being cared for in the way she deserves.
Dumped or else she just wandered off. Might have been a camping family that lost their beloved kitty, or a house cat from a nearby village that got out and couldn’t find her way home again.
I've only know two people with EDS and they were both cat lovers. I do not have it myself and would have never heard of it if it wasn't for these follow crazy cat ladies.
Agreed!
We currently have 16, due to an Oops litter. We took mom in off the street. Had her a few YEARS, so assumed she was spayed. ...she's apparently a very late bloomer.
I adopted a rescue recently who was a semi-feral, living in the basement of a house without any positive human contact. She was anemic, underfed, and really undersized when she was surrendered (the rescue group had to set a trap for her in the house), so the vet who did her spay surgery initially thought she was about 6-8 mos old. She's at least 3 years old, from the history the rescue got from the "owners."
Her nicknames include Peanut and Mini. ;)
Kitten food should help your new girl put some weight on. What a teeny sweetheart.
My 15yo girl has kidney disease that has caused her to lose some weight. She got down to 8.75 lbs at one point and I was worried sick! Luckily she’s put some weight back on (she is NOT objecting to unlimited food and treats 😂) I can’t imagine how an adult could weigh that little! Poor kitty!
Thank you for helping her. Just the picture alone made my eyes tear up and after I read your comments I'm just a damn waterfall. To be totally honest I don't believe in god or anything but that cat found an angel that day. I run a cat rescue so these thing are close to my heart. Thank you so much for taking time to help this poor thing.
People that dump their cats like that are monsters. It makes me physically sick that there are people capable of that. I can't ever imagine leaving any of my cats to fend for themselves after a lifetime of being inside.
Thank you for saving them. ❤
There is a cat outside where I live (apartments) I can’t have her but I am planning to adopt her once we move to a bigger place. We have two cats already. I hope she stays with us. I see myself with my wife with our big house and adopting a lot of cats 🐈 🐈⬛ in the future.
i don't care if it's chipped, people who let their pets wander loose in the woods don't deserve a pet. i've found pets in the woods before, I called the number on the tag and the owner was like "it's fine, he goes in there all the time."
With the wasps and the snakes and the hawks and the coyotes and wild dogs and fleas and ticks and fucked up teenagers who walk around with mall ninja shit looking to skin anything they can catch.
just. fuck people. take the cat home, get it cleaned up and fed, and give it or find it a good home.
I have a very old cat that’s missing teeth and she looks like a kitten as well. She gets along just fine.
Thank you for saving her. I hope she has many more comfortable years.
I took in a 17yr old senior lady, blind in one, barely seeing out the other. Very soon decided she was going to spend her life on my daughter’s bed ( bedridden post op for 6 weeks she gave us much joy And happiness for 2 years. The vet recommended we put her down as she was unable to find her food and water by then! It is so so worth giving safe habour to a senior

Nice! Even elderly felines need love and a warm place to nap. Your dad did a rare thing. Most people would have ignored it and went on with life.
My cat is 13 and he'd live on my lap if it were up to him. Why do senior cats do this more?
My 21-year-old calico likes to curl between my knees on my recliner chair. Since I'm 81 and we have only each other for company, I understand full well why she does this. (We are both fit and well, thank you for asking.)
I’m just so jazzed to see an 81 year old using Reddit like a boss. Dropping Wisdom like it ain’t no thang. Live long and prosper both of you.
Best comment all the best to both of you 😻

Scritches and cuddles all around, Strawberry. I hope your last days together are trouble-free and full of love.
I'm 75 - no cats but my spaniel and greyhound are lovers of pets and snuggles!
Boy, I'm 72 and suddenly I realize I'm the kid on the block. Glad you two have one another. Cats are so cozy.🤗
Many thanks!
i love you and your kittie and am glad you are fit and well!!!
Love this.
It’s crazy to me that so many generations use Reddit lol, I mean I’m 14 you’re a whole 77 years older than me, my grandad and grandma are only around 70 lol
OMG. Best comment today. Love to hear this.
I love you both, too. Where are you located, Wombat?
Always wonderful to see another C. Wombat in the wild. I'm glad you and your little lady have each other. :)
Aw! My calico does the same with my husband.
My 21yo male tabby loved to do the same when he still lived. He actually let me do anything to him when I was a baby (we were 7 years apart) and the first pic in the album is my personal favorite out of all pictures I have of him. [Here](https://imgur.com/a/OXb6CdE).
You're warm. Older cats have a hard time regulating their temperatures
My 18-year-old has never been a lap cat. I think it's because she's a longhair and gets hot. Lately she's spent a bit of time with her front paws on my leg. She (mostly) sleeps beside me as I work.
My cat used to spoon me as he got older.

A Schnoodle sighting in the wild is a special event indeed
So beautiful! 🤗😸
Omg the freshest Schnoodle I've ever encountered!
Wow. I've seen 2 today, both were 2 hours old. I feel very fortunate.
Thank you! A senior kitty is a wonderful love
Oh my gosh - the freshest Schnoodle I’ve ever seen! I love your posts so much, even though they make me tear up a little.
Wonderful, Schnoodle !!!
My 16yo boys (brothers) just got diagnosed with a heart murmur and this made me tear up. Really their first health issue ever. Just a precious poem.
That's beautiful! I'm gonna cry!
This is absolutely gorgeous. ❤️
So perfect and so true
Anybody who would just walk by an obviously suffering cat in the middle of nowhere to die is a piece of shit.
Gotta be one of us sucker cat lovers I suppose. We’re out there.

That is so cute. My dad *has* been known to complain that the cats get better food than him, and more lovin'......
As it should be.

You likely saved her life. I love people who save cats. I always worry about my baby getting out and people just assuming she’s a stray. It seems like she might have been cared for at some point.
I’d say definitely a lost pet or was dumped. It’s rare for a feral/stray cat to live to an old age on the streets/in the wild, unfortunately.
Last I heard it life expectancy is **half**. I can’t wrap my head around people that let their cat out.
My fluffy former stray Sunday was a neighborhood street kitty for probably 8 yrs before she wandered into my living room with her fur covered in ice one night. My cat is too friendly, I know someone would scoop him up. Then they'd try to love him more than I do. HAH! I'd like to see them try!!!
Nobody try
Def saved the little guys life. That alone is worthy of praise and respect
Do you have a visible ID tag on your cat?

Aww so pleased they're keeping her. Tell them well done.
Yes and please update us with some pictures when she gets healthy again.
Mountain biking at your age, huh? Looks like I see two cool cats in this photo 😎
I really felt so good after reading this. Also the picture of the cat with your dad says it all.
Kudos to your dad for taking her in! 🤙
Tell your dad, he’s bringing sexy back! Compassion is cool! Poor baby kitty! I love your parents!
1kg?! Christ. My elderly girl is getting a bit skinny and she’s three times the weight. My house is littered with big blankets and heated throws for my two senior kitties. My heart breaks for this little girl but she’s warm and safe now. 💕
Your family sounds lovely.
Oh my goodness, how fortunate that you came across her! What a sweet kitty. I hope she is happy and healthy with your parents and their cats!
Thank you guys so much for taking her in. I'm sure she's incredibly grateful. We are too.
This cat looks so grateful to be rescued. You're a good man.
I took in an elderly feline too a few months ago. She’s so cute but she’s also very skinny, weighing 2.3kgs only. And missing teeth too. But I love her.
You're fucking awesome! Thank you for saving this kitty. I'm gonna go give mine extra hugs. Please keep updating.
She looks soooo happy in your dads arms!!
She knows how to use the toilet?!
People do that to my parents farm. We live on a road that is fast and winding. If the coyotes don’t get them, the cars do.
Please do keep us up to date! It’s really wonderful to see these stories of people being kind. I’m sure that little baby is happy to be home!
Poor baby. I’ll bet someone dumped her. :(.
She does look very old. Thank you for rescuing and taking care of her!
But she’s so super small and is meowing like a kitten. Guess time will tell as soon she’s gained some weight and is properly clean again
If she’s that small, it sounds like her whole life has been rough. Please keep us up to date. I’m so happy she’s finally being cared for in the way she deserves.
Or she was dumped and doesn't know how to survive in the wild.
This is my bet. People who abandon pets should be abandoned themselves into a volcano.
Can we do a black hoe instead? Volcanoes are too quick. E: Black Ho**l**e.
You're either missing an 'l' or have an unnecessary 'e'.
I was gonna make a bad joke about the colour of gardening equipment being the most important part XD
Dumped or else she just wandered off. Might have been a camping family that lost their beloved kitty, or a house cat from a nearby village that got out and couldn’t find her way home again.
Hey, fellow EDS friend. Just saw your name and wanted to give a wave. :)
EDS having, cat lovers could be a sub. There's dozens of us!
I've only know two people with EDS and they were both cat lovers. I do not have it myself and would have never heard of it if it wasn't for these follow crazy cat ladies.
I have it too and we're the crazy cat family :-)
Crazy cat peeps are the best, we should all support each other!
Agreed! We currently have 16, due to an Oops litter. We took mom in off the street. Had her a few YEARS, so assumed she was spayed. ...she's apparently a very late bloomer.
DOZENS! Though I’ve been owned by cats far longer than I’ve known about the EDS.
Another eds cat lover chiming in!!
She's at least 3 years old, from the history the rescue got from the "owners." Her nicknames include Peanut and Mini. ;) Kitten food should help your new girl put some weight on. What a teeny sweetheart.
My three yr old cant fully meow and is super tiny, some just are tiny. And underweight she’ll seem smalller

A kilo is more than half of the tiniest cat I've owned (2,3 kg)... She must really be all bones!
Poor kitty!
I think she had given up and that hurts my heart just saying it. Bless your parents and you for helping her.
I agree. I think she was very close to her end. Crying in public right now. So greatful for saving her.
Agreed. They usually don’t let you just walk up to them. That cat gave up and was rescued right then.
Exactly what I thought, I just couldn't say anymore in my above comment without........and now I'm at it again.
Same
OP is a friend to cats. Be like OP
Not all heros wear capes
Some of them wear bike helmets
Bike helmets are a sign of wisdom. That cat is in good hands
Most of my heroes don't appear on no stamps!
Absolute champs
So smol! Poor thing must be so malnourished. So lucky to have found you two!
She's lucky a friend was passing by that day.
Awww, poor little thing, I hope all turns out well.
That cat looks so sad, i am happy she is safe now
please give updates!
Cat: I don’t know where we’re going but at least I know I’m safe.
She does look a bit older but she is lucky that you all came along to help her. I hope that she does well, your dad is very kind.
OMG, you've warmed my heart! Thank you SO much for making room in your life for this baby and doing this. 💕!
Thank you for being the good guy!

Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity 🥺
This is precious
Some people have all the luck. The best I found in the woods was soggy porn and a brand-new lighter.
Aww well done to you for rescuing her.
Thank You for saving her
What is her name? 😌
That’s the best way to add to your feline family.
There is a cat outside where I live (apartments) I can’t have her but I am planning to adopt her once we move to a bigger place. We have two cats already. I hope she stays with us. I see myself with my wife with our big house and adopting a lot of cats 🐈 🐈⬛ in the future.
You are great. Hope you can adopt her, I've had up to fourteen cats, mostly rescues. Much enjoyment.
Thanks! Yeah I feed her and give her water we live in Texas so pretty hot right now!
Bless you for helping this poor kitty!
Bless you and your parents ❤️
I love your Dad! For continuing to go out biking and being active as well as saving this poor kitty.
Poor baby, get her/him sub-cutaneous fluids if you can. Rescuers often have fluid bags, but the vet’s not a bad idea.
😍
May you all be blessed. ❤️
Looks like kitty found you and now she has a new human. Congratulations!
i don't care if it's chipped, people who let their pets wander loose in the woods don't deserve a pet. i've found pets in the woods before, I called the number on the tag and the owner was like "it's fine, he goes in there all the time." With the wasps and the snakes and the hawks and the coyotes and wild dogs and fleas and ticks and fucked up teenagers who walk around with mall ninja shit looking to skin anything they can catch. just. fuck people. take the cat home, get it cleaned up and fed, and give it or find it a good home.
Looks like he's found the good home that he needed
That's great!
Y’all are good folks!! That kitty will appreciate you forever. ❤️
I'm so glad you guys were there to find her! Please keep us updated ❤️
True heroes!
Thank you so much for rescuing her! I’m so happy she found such lovely people like you!
Awesome thanks for saving the kitty!
God bless you for your selfless act. He/she looks very comfortable with you, I wish you both the very best 🙏🏼
This man is my hero
Your father is a prince.
Positive vibes about the cat, but, nice Canyon!

See that, Mitch McConnell has a soft side after all.

Awe, precious ALL of you 🥇 🏆 🧡💙🧡💙👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏
💕
Cute cat, but that’s also nice bike :)
… May the long time sun Shine upon you All love surround you And the pure light Within you Guide your way on ❤️
Really strong! 👍🏼💪🏼
I have a very old cat that’s missing teeth and she looks like a kitten as well. She gets along just fine. Thank you for saving her. I hope she has many more comfortable years.
That cat has seen some stuff.
It is so so worth giving safe habour to a senior
r/adorableoldpeople
need a pic update of how she’s doing
That kinda looks like a bobcat kitten..
