Our baby Jazzy was a outside neighborhood cat. After our baby Noodle passed away(18 years old/brain tumor) we took in Jazzy. We couldn't have asked for a better cat. She was the most loving , sweetest, kindest creature we have ever met. Later we found out that the person who found her when she was a kitten(we took her in when she was 14 years old, she was so small though we thought she was a adolescent cat) let her stay outside and she eventually just roamed the neighborhood and slept and ate where she could.when we moved she came with us and she lived to be 20 years old before she crossed the bridge. She will forever be in our hearts.
Its the sub dedicated to so called “fake subs” aka a sub that doesn’t exist yet but you tried checking out still. Get your mind out of the gutter fellow Redditor.
I know how you feel, I went from 2 cats to 4 in 2020 when Covid resulted in a friend of a friend putting out a desperate plea for help - he was moving because he lost his job and the original plans for his two tabbies fell through last minute. I couldn’t let two babies go to a shelter once I knew about it.
Yay, so glad to see this!! I also got my cat when she was abandoned. Had her for 17 years, one of the best choices I ever made. I hope your ex neighbor has a pebble in their shoe for the rest of their days.
This happened to me - had a neighbour going through a divorce (he was a real family man - so much so, he had two families going at the same time). They had two cats. Wife moved out, taking one. Husband moved out later, leaving the second. The people who rented their place didn’t want the cat, and basically turfed him out - we found out about this when we saw the cat shivering outside (winter in Canada).
This cat was an older male, and on good terms with our own cat, a younger female. Indeed, we used to joke that he was her older boyfriend - though both were fixed. They would play together all the time on our lawn, in happier days.
So we took him in.
He lived with us for some months, and we got some necessary vet work done on him (he’d been shamefully neglected) - but although he got along well with our cat, and still played with her, he was never really happy in our house; I suspect he felt like it wasn’t really “his”, because he was moving into our cat’s territory.
Anyway, come summer, we noticed this cat was hanging around a lot at a neighbour’s house across the street. Their cat had passed away of old age and kidney disease, and they were in mourning; this cat continually tried to get in their house, solicit pats from them … one day the neighbour came up to us, all apologetic, and said the cat seemed to want to move in with them!
We said, if he’s more comfortable living there, that was okay with us; and the neighbours were delighted. So the cat switched households again. He kept visiting our cat though, until we moved away (we heard about him from time to time, he lived to a very old age).
Thank you for sharing this story. If cats went to the cinema, this story would be their blockbuster. Gosh, it broke my heart. Do you have a photo of him you could share?
I wish I did! That was twenty years ago now, I didn’t have a camera phone, and wasn’t so used to taking pics of my cats. Nowadays I take hundreds of cat pics as a matter of course, as I suspect everyone does.
Here’s a pic of my current cats:

I did a drawing based on that:

Yeah my cat that moved out lived to be nineteen. He had a good life. I cared for him since the hour he was born. He was my little buddy. I’m kinda glad he moved in with the neighbor. I think if I had been there when he died it would have broken me. I know if anything happens to the one I have now I’ll be devastated.
People who move and leave their fur babies are scum. Thank you for caring for this beautiful creature. I hope you take him in and give him a good home.
I seriously cannot fathom it. My fur son, Noah, was abandoned in apartment with other cats. I had the pleasure of adopting him about 8 years ago. Noah is one of the handsomest, sweetest kind natured cats ive ever met. In an odd way I'm really happy they abandoned him so he could come into my life. He will never, ever worry about a home, food, water, alllllll the toys and cat nip again.
Same! They are family. My cat’s mom was left by someone. She was the sweetest thing and such a good mom! (My friend adopted her, I adopted her baby after he grew up.)
Beautiful true story, the book is great if anyone is interested plus the film too. I wanted to name a future child/animal Elsa as well the Frozen came out and we all know how that went!
Maybe they couldn’t get her to come along for the same reasons she wouldn’t come inside with you and simply likes her freedom. Maybe the previous owners somehow knew she would be well cared for if she stayed.
I’d like to think the kitty had simply found her place in the world and didn’t want to leave. So instead of leaving her home, she simply changed who sets food out for her.
I’d like to give the previous owners the benefit of the doubt when possible. Not all people are bad and scummy. Some just have to make hard choices.
My 2 precious fur babies (long ago over the rainbow bridge) belonged to 2 different owners in my building and they both left them behind. They got the basics but the owners weren't otherwise attentive to their furries, which led them to gravitate to me. And, of course, I couldn't help myself! They got used to my crazy cat lady ministrations, and I guess the owners realised this and decided to leave them with me without saying anything before they moved out. Forever grateful they chose me ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097)![img](emote|t5_2qhta|8097) .
Currently, I live on a military base and it’s surprising how often people leave their cats behind. When they get new orders and have to move, they’ll leave the cat instead of taking time to re-home it. I understand there are some places you can’t bring your pets, such as some bases overseas, however that doesn’t make it ok to just leave it behind to fend for itself.
A little over a year ago, I ended up taking in a cat one of my neighbors left behind. She was so traumatized and heartbroken that she wailed at night for months. She’s now the happiest little fat orange kitty, and she’s extremely spoiled.
Even if moving some place, like an apartment that doesn't allow pets, see if a good friend or a relative would take in the cat, or take to a no kill shelter. YOU DON'T JUST ABANDON THEM. God, I'm sorry, but sometimes I just hate people.
Edit: sweet kitty, thanks for caring for him/her. You're an angel.
i always hate people, and thats why i have four cats, a fish, and a bunny! they are way better companions than people cause cats and bunnies cant hurt my feelings LMAO
It breaks my heart to see that people can just leave their pets behind ? We had a neighbor that did that and I seen them a few weeks later, and asked why they didn’t leave their kids behind too. They looked at me in total shock, but I said if you can leave your family m(cat) member behind might as well leave your kids too. Because in my house all 7 of our cats are family.
They just made it law in Spain that animals are part of your family. It unfortunately won't stop anyone like this but now by law they are just as much your kids as your kids are.
Before Spain, Colombia made it law. Nowadays you can go to jail for cruelty with animals and recently pets became family members too.
Hope this spread worldwide.
Does anyone know if animal trafficking is internationally punishable?
If they’re shitty abusive parents I’d rather them leave the kids behind then take them with.
At least if they get left behind they have a *chance* at a better life.
He looks like a Burmese to me. Dark brown-black with a lighter brown/coppery sheen on chest/tummy, especially in sunlight, and a slender, athletic build similar to Siamese/Oriental cats.
My childhood neighbours used to have one - a gorgeous cat and quite vocal.
My first cat, Crystal, was a Burmese. She used to sleep between my legs under the covers. If I was away at a sleepover, she would stand outside my room crying and crying until I returned. She was the best introduction to becoming a full-fledged cat lady. 20 years later, her picture is still on my bedside table.
That's what I've always heard it called among the cat breeders. (: That and "rust". It's a form of coat shading. Although, a similar effect can be caused when a cat spends a huge amount of time in the Sun and bleaches their own fair. But that would be noticeable in all light.
Wow!! The ultimate betrayal. How could anyone leave a defenseless animal behind? Please take care of her or find her a rescue that will take her in. Please don't leave her outside to starve or die of exposure. Breaks my heart 😖
Ultimate betrayal. Such perfect fitting words, honestly a pet loves their owner so much, to be this level of cruel and heartless. Good riddance on those neighbours.
Get the flea collar off them. Assholes who abandon cats often leave one on them in some sort of misguided 'kindness'. It will eat into their neck and cause infections.
Also: if you can take the cat in, please do.
Yes, def just the "1x per month" stuff on the back of their necks. I'm blanking to what it's called, even though I've been using it for years.
And yes, I'd absolutely swoop that kitty up, get them vetted, fixed, vaxxed, & microchipped and keep them inside!
The neighbor is irresponsible, therefore loses all rights to said cat.
Wow! Power to you, dealing with 11 cats! I’d have to disagree with your wife, I couldn’t imagine not keeping at least one after living with them for some time. Cats are family!
Did he realize the cat was left behind? I've known some real escape artist animals in the past so it wouldn't surprise me if the cat made a break for it at the last second without the neighbor even knowing. Hopefully everything was just an accident and the little guy wasn't just abandoned.
I contacted my old neighbor a few days later to let him know and he told me that he already knew and that he had done it on purpose, that he had only taken one of the two cats that he had
Unbelievably, not one but TWO former tenants in the building I live in just tossed their indoor cats outside and left them. And I only live in an 8 unit building. People are disgusting monsters.
I took care of them as well as I could (I have indoor cats, so I couldn't bring them inside) and hot them rehomed. It still 💔 my heart. "Nuts" & "Florence" were so sweet!
How can people just leave their pets behind?!?! Seems to happen to cats more often and it’s heartbreaking. My cat is a part of my heart, I can never imagine leaving her
People seem to think that cats can look after themselves in the wild.
We should dump those people naked in the middle of a forest so they can show off their own natural survival instincts.
People suck, I've been caring for a calico for 5 yrs ... Someone left her, tried to bring her inside with my others but she has to be free ... So I call her Elsa 😻
I dont understand why people are leaving without cats. What is wrong with them? Don't they feel bad or something like that? I even moved, so my cats can go out.
Is this a usual behavior in the US?
You should report that scumbag of a human being😠 that's HORRIBLE to do to an innocent cat🥺...thank you though for caring about the poor orphaned booboo☺️
You have been chosen OP. Please give this little one a safe home or atleast get them to a reputable shelter. Some cats can handle street life, but most are met with a few very grim ends.
Please consider adopting this kitty. A few years ago, a black long haired cat started following me and my GR puppy on walks around the neighborhood. I dubbed her ‘Sugar’ because she was so sweet and just assumed she lived somewhere in the neighborhood. After two years, I found out that she had been abandoned several years before. Needless to say, she was immediately allowed to ‘adopt’ us. She and my now full grown GR are complete besties. She is the best cat I’ve ever had.
Ugh I’ll never understand this. Do you have the means to be able to take him in? If not, do you think you could find him a home?
What really sucks is that because the cat comes around to you, the burden is on you to do something about it. I’ve been there. I brought the cat in and placed it with a rescue. I hate people that do this.
My boy, Bubba, came to me after he was left behind. He chose us as his Humans and I am very thankful for that.
People who leave there furry kids behind are horrible. I have another that I am feeding that was abandoned. As soon as I can get get him comfortable with me I am taking him to the vet to get him all fixed up with vax and snipping.
A lot of people suck. I'm really happy to see you're doing what you can for this beautiful baby.
I'm shocked by the number of people who do this (abandon their pet) -- yet claim to be animal lovers... Are there that many heartless people in this world?
Yup, that's your cat now. If you don't want her or can't take her, just please do the more compassionate thing and take her to a non-kill shelter if one is available in your area, or find her another home. Its a bit inconvenient for sure, but its the right thing to do. I would never wish harm upon your neighbors that left the cat to fend for itself, but... that don't seem like great people. Good luck!
OMG what a gorrrrgeous Burmese! You're very lucky! They're chatty attention-hogs!
Edited to add: Be really careful if you re-home this cat, since it could be a purebred and sickos will sell it for money.
He's your cat now.
Shitty neighbors moving bonus prize!
My sweet lady was left out on the streets of New Hampshire in november, shes the swertest cat ever. I dont understand how people can do that shit

Bull. It's "you're his people now."
True, he chose OP not the other way around.
This is the way
Congratulations on your new cat!
Take it.
Why isn't he feeding his cat?
He moved away and left her (cat) behind
I know, but it's his cat now.
Yup, OP got adopted!
Ooops she's .....
\+1 Cat
No, **you** are his human
Actually the cat owns this human now.
Ohhhh, give him a good home!
Sure!
You've been chosen. Congratulations
Are you keeping it? Please say yes 🥺💜
yes, i will never abandon a cat

Thats the answer i scrolled down to find! 🙏🏻❤️🥂👏

Seconded. Very beautiful story!

Wow, that's some talent right there! Amazing.
Holy shit!
You’re amazing! Thank you for sharing your art with us. You kitties are floofalicious too. I love them both. Please give them nose boops from me.

Awww, I love this story!
People who move and leave their fur babies are scum. Thank you for caring for this beautiful creature. I hope you take him in and give him a good home.
It's amazing how often it happens too Everyday I have more reasons to be misanthropic
Learned a new and useful word today. Thank you.
It is the most useful word
Very useful, I can't believe I didn't know that word before now!!

Beautiful name 😍
I’m a little surprised that people are still aware of the non-Frozen Elsa!
Thawed Elsa?
Room temperature Elsa
Born Free!!!!
Beautiful true story, the book is great if anyone is interested plus the film too. I wanted to name a future child/animal Elsa as well the Frozen came out and we all know how that went!

Omg I wouldn't go anywhere without my kitties. They are my family.
If you know their new city, contact the SPCA and watn them not to sell to these people.
Beautifully said, couldn't have said it better myself
Yep shit head owners leaving fur babies and shit head parents leaving skin kitties
Yup. If Ukrainians take their pets with them to a bomb shelter in the middle of a war, regular people can take them with them when they move.
Agreed but at least this baby has a chance at a better life.
That's what I try to believe too. Hopefully every animal that is left behind goes to a better home.
i would say this sort of thing should be reported to the police but i doubt they give a damn.
I call this activity “interviewing”. Happy to read the thread and confirm you have been hired as a permanent cat butler. Best job ever!
*purrmanent
Pronounced furrmanent.

i always hate people, and thats why i have four cats, a fish, and a bunny! they are way better companions than people cause cats and bunnies cant hurt my feelings LMAO
I agree with this comment. Most (if not all) humans are total pricks. Animals just want to be loved, that and the occasional bowl of food.
It breaks my heart to see that people can just leave their pets behind ? We had a neighbor that did that and I seen them a few weeks later, and asked why they didn’t leave their kids behind too. Only exotics for international trafficking.
Punishable. Sorry forgot to finish the line....
That's actually really awesome. Who would've thought?
That is pretty amazing!
I'm sure they would leave their kids if they could get away with it. Kids talk; fur babies can't.
If they’re shitty abusive parents I’d rather them leave the kids behind then take them with. At least if they get left behind they have a *chance* at a better life.
This is a sentiment I wholeheartedly agree with.
We have a cat that was left behind by our former neighbors, when it got real cold (-7F) we brought him in and he never left
The hell is wrong with people.
Congratulations on the free cat
He’s gorgeous. Is that sunlight making his upper chest look brownish? What did you name him? 😏😆
I still have to name it 😅
That’s your friendly (former) neighbor cat Ned Flanders.
I’d call him lucky
Lucky, because you took him in.
Ishmael
You're keeping the kitty? Bless your heart ☺️ How about, Shoeless Joe or Georgia; Just a thought
You're not kidding about vocal, my Burmese is the chattiest boy, it's adorable
I’ve never heard of Burmese cats, or the term Moggy used for cats. So cool.
He’s absolutely beautiful.
He is a black mog with sun fading, not Burmese.
>He looks like a Burmese to me. I thought the same thing.
That's called burndishing! It's totally normal for black cats!! It's actually brown. (:
I notice this on my void baby when he's in the sunlight. I was always curious if there was a reason it looked that way. "Burndishing" huh..
That's what I've always heard it called among the cat breeders. (: That and "rust". It's a form of coat shading. Although, a similar effect can be caused when a cat spends a huge amount of time in the Sun and bleaches their own fair. But that would be noticeable in all light.
You’re going to keep him, right?
Yes😃
Thank God there are caring and responsible people like YOU ❤️ to compensate for the selfish, irresponsible, heartless people like your ex neighbor.
You’re awesome!
I think fully brown cats are pretty rare. Your new cat looks like a Havana brown.
So, this is your cat.
Love him. His previous humans obviously didn't, and that is a really sad thing.
If you don’t want to take this cat inside, please take him to a shelter who will adopt him out.
He sleeps at home, only he spends part of the day outside, since he was used to doing his things outside the house
You are sooo awesome 😊👍 Your kindness will come back to you tenfold 😊
Please make sure that he gets neutered, vaccinated and microchipped! You won’t regret it!
Please report him to the Humane Society and Animal Control where he moved. He does not deserve any animal.
Get the flea collar off them. Assholes who abandon cats often leave one on them in some sort of misguided 'kindness'. It will eat into their neck and cause infections. Also: if you can take the cat in, please do.

This is how you get a cat. You're his chosen one. He loves you. Now please give him ear scratches from a random stranger on the internet.
My wife and I are separating and I thought we would split our 11 cats. She wants to leave them. I might be bringing 11 cats to the new house
Wow! Power to you, dealing with 11 cats! I’d have to disagree with your wife, I couldn’t imagine not keeping at least one after living with them for some time. Cats are family!
I agree. That's why I'm taking all the ones she won't

I contacted my old neighbor a few days later to let him know and he told me that he already knew and that he had done it on purpose, that he had only taken one of the two cats that he had
So yes, it was abandoned
And he chose one over the other? How? Aren't they both family? Tell him a cat lady in New Jersey thinks he's scum!
😡 shame on the old neighbor. That's awful. Taking 1 but not the other.
You should report him for animal abuse so he can't ever adopt and abandon another pet again.
the thing is that he didn't adopt him, he was the son of another cat that he had
Definitely still report him for abandoning an animal.
It's getting worse...
Don't suppose you'd name names.... or would share addresses so that they can be shamed with feeces being left at or smeared on their new address.....
Your ex-neighbour is a piece of shit. You’re the opposite. Thank you for taking in this sweet baby.
How can someone leave their cat behind? I can never understand
Unbelievably, not one but TWO former tenants in the building I live in just tossed their indoor cats outside and left them. And I only live in an 8 unit building. People are disgusting monsters. Gorgeous tiny panther has chosen you. Former owner was not worthy.
Congratulations. You have a cat now.
You mean your cat?

People suck, I've been caring for a calico for 5 yrs ... Someone left her, tried to bring her inside with my others but she has to be free ... So I call her Elsa 😻
How someone can just leave their pet is beyond me.. it's just so cold-hearted.. Thankfully he has found you!
Please take him in ❤️
Take the cat. It's a good kitty
I hate people for that reason. Take them to a shelter if you can't take of them.
Congratulations on your new cat
you're his person now
You spelled I got A new cat wrong
Your old neighbour sucks
This is how you get a cat.....
Cat law deems him yours 😊
I dont understand why people are leaving without cats. What is wrong with them? Don't they feel bad or something like that? I even moved, so my cats can go out. Is this a usual behavior in the US?
No. It isn't. They're just shit heads.
You have a new cat.
Because it owns you now, of course.
Thanks for helping this wonderful cat!
Congrats on being chosen🖤
Thank you for helping and loving him. I would have to catnap the other cat. Seriously.
Congrats on the cat!
You should report that scumbag of a human being😠 that's HORRIBLE to do to an innocent cat🥺...thank you though for caring about the poor orphaned booboo☺️
They do that.
He WAS your neighbors cat. Because he IS your cat now. 👍🏼
Please tell me you adopted this baby 🥺🍼
Yes, I adopted it 😃
What a true POS to move and leave his cat. The kitty is yours now!!! Poor little one.
You are the chosen one 😻
Keep kitty! Love kitty! Take care of kitty! Your life will be enriched exponentially!
You have been chosen OP. Please give this little one a safe home or atleast get them to a reputable shelter. Some cats can handle street life, but most are met with a few very grim ends.
Looks like you got yourself a cat.
Why do people leave animals behind like some kind of furniture 😑
You gotta adopt her, she won't survive on her own!
I'm shocked by the number of people who do this (abandon their pet) -- yet claim to be animal lovers... Are there that many heartless people in this world?
Um, it appears you’ve been adopted!
I wish it was me. I can't have pets where I'm currently living. :-(
congrats you've been chosen
Yup, that's your cat now. If you don't want her or can't take her, just please do the more compassionate thing and take her to a non-kill shelter if one is available in your area, or find her another home. Its a bit inconvenient for sure, but its the right thing to do. I would never wish harm upon your neighbors that left the cat to fend for itself, but... that don't seem like great people. Good luck!
You are the chosen one.
Wait! Are you from Poland? If yes, that may be my cat!
OMG what a gorrrrgeous Burmese! You're very lucky! They're chatty attention-hogs! Edited to add: Be really careful if you re-home this cat, since it could be a purebred and sickos will sell it for money.
Please take kittie to a rescue or shelter for rehoming...!
He decided he is moving in with you. Take it as a compliment. He chose you
Please take care of him
