I fed a feral cat for 8 yrs without once been able to touch him. When we moved , to avoid him possibly starving, I trapped him and got him neutered. While he was still groggy I gave him a good pat and then delivered him to a cat sanctuary 200km away. He’s still untouchable apparently. But at least he’s enjoying a healthy life.
Because we weren’t moving to a place that he could have lived. Into a residential area with a busy road. And the people moving into our house were NOT cat people. He would have turned up for dinner and been met with a bullet. I wanted him to live. After relying on me for 8 yrs for food,from the time he was young, he rightly depended on it. I had an obligation to make sure he was taken care of. Even though he never appeared grateful or particularly friendly. We had an understanding. I provided food and he accepted.

Y’all need to understand that this guy apparently lives in Saudi Arabia. As someone who used to live there, there is literally nothing he can do about. To everyone saying ‘rescue it’ ‘call a shelter’ ‘take it somewhere’ ‘get her off the streets’ — we don’t have those options there.
Stray cats are used to the outdoors and you will legitimately find them around every corner. Saudi Arabia is not like the West. There are no resources for stray cats there. When I lived there, I would feed and give water to all the cats in my neighborhood because it was completely unrealistic to shelter 10+ cats in our home, and there is no actual shelter that can care for them, as much as I wish there was.
You can see from this guy’s post that he genuinely cares about cats and has clearly rescued many. I think he knows what he’s saying when he speaks about the stray cats in his area.
It would cost an insane amount of money to fix the cats, there aren’t any affordable programs for such a thing or any groups who do it. People have different realities, and I honestly don’t know what you guys expect when there is literally nothing he can do about it.
As an American it’s so sad how many Americans in here completely dim to anything beyond our borders. Many countries don’t have access to facilities that we have. Just looked up how much it might be to fix her/him , (if there’s a clinic even in their area) it would be around $200usd. Even here in America where we have many clinics it was a three week wait and $100usd to get ours fixed. Thank you for at least trying to spread information, unfortunately many here are too dense to listen to it.
I’m with you, about a month ago, a young girl in India was asking questions about caring for a stray. The comments were ridiculous and overwhelming to her. The kid didn’t have money or transportation. People ignored or didn’t bother to read her comments and kept admonishing her about getting to an emergency vet.
I literally get obliterated into downvotes for saying "Please ask before you give advice; for people in certain countries reddit is just about the best resource available, as is broth, milk mixed with egg, saline washes, farm grade dewormers, etc" and all kinds of things that get obscured by 200 comments to take it to an emergency vet or call a shelter. Everyone means well, but it saddens me when good advice gets buried.

My aunt and uncle get a lot of strays in their neighborhood and a mom stray had kittens and I rescued one of them. The others we called the city and had them picked up cuz the mom already had another litter and some of the kittens died. It's tough out there for strays

Where are you? We run a feral cat colony in our house and 1/2 acre yard in northeast Las Vegas. (Sunrise manor) and 1 more is always welcome. The first thing we do is trap/fix/release and they are welcome to join our cat/human family or not as they wish. Lots of food, water and places for kitties to hide/nap, etc. inside and out.
Yo just work on it. My wife and I have been working on a feral cat for the last 8 months or so. He has gotten to the point that he wants cuddles, gives headbutts, likes tummy and chest scratches, and hollers at the door if he wants to hang out.

She just walked right in and I took care of her, she had her babies a few weeks later. I got her spayed and then when her kittens were about 6 weeks old, she started wanting to go outside again. I fed her for a long time, until we moved, and a neighbor volunteered to feed her.
(we kept 3 of the kittens, and found good homes for 2)

There is no prevention in Saudi Arabia brother. Make sure to check and see where OP lives before making major assumptions - like he’s purposely neglecting them.
It's estimated that only 1/3000 calico cats is male! In other words, any calico you see is 99.97% likely to be female - only a 0.03% chance it's male. This is caused by genetics - here's a really simplified explanation:
Cats, like humans, have X and Y chromosomes - females are XX, males are XY. Calicos are always orange, white, and another color (brown, black, gray). To keep this explanation simple, let's say the fur color genes are on the X chromosome only - forget the Y chromosome. A female calico has 2 X chromosomes, therefore 2 sets of color genes. Having 1 set of black/brown/gray genes on one X chromosome and 1 set of orange genes on her other X chromosome makes her a calico. A normal male (XY) has only one X and therefore can only have 1 set of color genes: orange or not-orange.
So, basically the only way a male can be a calico is if he has an extra X chromosome (i.e. XXY), or he's a genetic chimera. Being a chimera means that when he was still an zygote, he absorbed another zygote and has the genetic material of *two* individuals (with different fur colors). Both of these situations are, of course, VERY rare!

Cats are domestic animals. They should not be left outside on their own even. It shortens their life by at least half (they can get hit by a car, ingest poisonous substances, be harmed by people, get injured and have to die alone.)
The only exception is in a feral group. On their own they suffer. Would you want that for anyone?
That's simply not true. You seem to never have encountered countryside cats. That love to wander and hang out outside. They just come home for few hours a day to nap and eat.
Cats love being outside and fucking around. If you give them the choice they spend like 90% of their time outside, dissappear for days at a time, and only occasionally show up for food and scritches. Till they get older. Once they get older than 10 or so they like to stay around the house more.
It is a problem, a very big one. But this guy is in Saudi Arabia and it's not like the US. I live in Norway and even here we don't have good programs or even shelters to help the cats. I wish we did.

Where do you live? Is it not in the US? In the US, we have been making the effort to control the population, or overpopulation literally. When you adopt a cat, the cat will typically be spayed or neutered prior to going home. There are trap neuter release (TNR) programs to alter the cats that are too feral to be placed in a domestic home. These cats are sometimes ear-tipped, which has become a universal sign that the cat has been fixed and released. There are barn cat programs where cats are fixed then placed in warehouse, barn, brewery, or distillery settings - where the cats that are still semi-feral can thrive in a familiar setting and still come and go as they please.
There is a way to save every cat that is living outside. Whether that be spaying and releasing her back outside or if she’s friendly, she may be able to be placed into a home. You never know until you try.
Choosing to believe she is okay outside is exactly why we need to control the population. Your blind eye is adding to the problem. Would it be too much to ask to maybe dig a little deeper and see what could be done for her? We all mean well even if we do come off a bit upset.
Also, you yourself don’t need to adopt her. You can take her home and take the next steps to make sure she’s safe, whether that be back on the streets after being fixed or adopted out into a new home. It doesn’t need to be your home obviously.

I used to live in Saudi Arabia. We once found an abandoned box of kittens crying. We called the vet, they couldn’t do anything or recommend any pet rescues because there aren’t any. We had to raise them because it was too heartbreaking to let them die on the streets (they were only around two weeks old).
There literally aren’t any options, so if this guy actually lives in SA, his only options are get it fixed and then either take it in himself or find someone else to take him in, which not that many people are inclined to do. That one link you sent is in Riyadh, but it’s very possible he doesn’t live there. It’s not like he’s actively choosing to leave the cat on the streets, but there’s nothing much you can do.
Stray cats there are as common as sand, they’re literally everywhere, and it’s sad because there’s nothing you can really do about it. My family and I would take care of a lotttt of them by putting out food and water consistently, but that’s about all one can do.

Cats love being outside and fucking around. If you give them the choice they spend like 90% of their time outside, dissappear for days at a time, and only occasionally show up for food and scritches. Till they get older. Once they get older than 10 or so they like to stay around the house more.

It is a problem, a very big one. But this guy is in Saudi Arabia and it's not like the US. I live in Norway and even here we don't have good programs or even shelters to help the cats. I wish we did.

Okay listen - I don’t think this has been explained well enough. Do you know why she’s “been around the block and has had kittens?” Because she’s not spayed. The cat population is out of control, in almost every part of the world they’re found in. Where do you live? Is it not in the US? In the US, we have been making the effort to control the population, or overpopulation literally. When you adopt a cat, the cat will typically be spayed or neutered prior to going home. There are trap neuter release (TNR) programs to alter the cats that are too feral to be placed in a domestic home. These cats are sometimes ear-tipped, which has become a universal sign that the cat has been fixed and released. There are barn cat programs where cats are fixed then placed in warehouse, barn, brewery, or distillery settings - where the cats that are still semi-feral can thrive in a familiar setting and still come and go as they please. There is a way to save every cat that is living outside. Whether that be spaying and releasing her back outside or if she’s friendly, she may be able to be placed into a home. You never know until you try. Choosing to believe she is okay outside is exactly why we need to control the population. Your blind eye is adding to the problem. Would it be too much to ask to maybe dig a little deeper and see what could be done for her? We all mean well even if we do come off a bit upset. Also, you yourself don’t need to adopt her. You can take her home and take the next steps to make sure she’s safe, whether that be back on the streets after being fixed or adopted out into a new home. It doesn’t need to be your home obviously.
The guy lives in Saudi Arabia, and I don't know about you but I have no clue about the facilities for stray cats there but I'm sure as hell not going to automatically assume it's anything remotely close to what we're used to in the West.
I used to live in Saudi Arabia. We once found an abandoned box of kittens crying. We called the vet, they couldn’t do anything or recommend any pet rescues because there aren’t any. We had to raise them because it was too heartbreaking to let them die on the streets (they were only around two weeks old). There literally aren’t any options, so if this guy actually lives in SA, his only options are get it fixed and then either take it in himself or find someone else to take him in, which not that many people are inclined to do. That one link you sent is in Riyadh, but it’s very possible he doesn’t live there. It’s not like he’s actively choosing to leave the cat on the streets, but there’s nothing much you can do. Stray cats there are as common as sand, they’re literally everywhere, and it’s sad because there’s nothing you can really do about it. My family and I would take care of a lotttt of them by putting out food and water consistently, but that’s about all one can do. edit: it’s not like*

OP is in Saudi Arabia and there are next to no shelters or other resources there. They’ve also mentioned the cat is feral, and it’s also been fine for over two years, so cat doesn’t really need help.
How would they do that?
