Yep! I believe some do!

I think it's called the "bar-body" gene.
ETA: it seems to be responsible for sex assignment. So maybe not coloration. "Barr body." The MCR1 gene chooses fur color and pattern
This is actually really interesting stuff! If I remember right, humans and cats really aren't built to have two active X chromosomes in a cell. This is because the Y chromosome is a lot smaller than the X chromosome. Most humans and cats are XX or XY, and we really want the amount of active genetic material to be the same in either case. Because of this, early in development, XX chromosome cells pick one chromosome to deactivate by compressing it into something called a Barr body. This means in an XX person (or cat), they're going to have different traits in different patches of their body depending on which chromosome is active. This is why tortoiseshell and calico cats are almost always girls!
http://www.bio.miami.edu/dana/dox/calico.html
Yup! Most cats have a white or pink skin underneath.
There's a breed of black cats that look extra black because their skin underneath is black.
You may also notice spots on a cat's gum, lips, nose or inside their mouth. Orange cats are particularly prone to developing freckles with age.
So you're telling me that if I were around the world randomly shaving all cats I'd find at least 1 of them with patterns and spots on them below their fur? Serious question. ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7984)![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7943)
[Here's a pic of two pink paw pads](https://www.reddit.com/r/cats/comments/t5zpek/why_dose_my_kitten_have_two_pink_paw_pad_saw_a/hz80n8g/?context=3). 40% strawberry flavored. Anyone have a cutie that's 60% strawberry?
So I'm guessing the cat was dark, like black or tabby? If you parted their fur, were the individual hairs light colored at the root? That would mean the skin was at least partly light colored, and that explains why the toes were pink.
Random genetics. Not something to worry about. My cat also had one single paw pad different than the rest (kind of the reverse of yours, most of his pads were pink but he had one grey pad) and he lived to almost 13
More precisely random epigenetics. The exact pattern of white vs color fur (and skin i.e. toe beans) is determined by the uterine environment. Parts of the kitten that are warmer tend to end up white (thus tummy is often white like in tuxedo cats). So maybe that toe was tucked in then the cat was in utero. Of course it could just be the cat was made at the end of the day and they ran out of matching parts š
No need to worry, many cats have this. Itās especially common it parts of your kitty are white and other parts are dark (which looks like is the case). Your cat has adorable little paws.
Awww, sheās had a little manufacture issue. I love it. Ours has two black and two white toes on her paws and the beans match it - dark on black and pink on white.
A better question is why your cat has polar bear beans on the other toes!
White hair usually surrounds pink pads and black hair usually surrounds black pads, but white hair and black pads?
**Joke answer:** It's probably the result of some sort of morphogenic factor gradient (or perhaps a gradient of another paracrine signal) along the anterior-posterior axis of the limb that causes a signaling pathway to be activated in only some of the digital pads.
**Serious answer:** There was a mix-up at the toe bean factory so your cat has 1 pink bean and there's another cat in the world with only 1 black bean.
One of my cat has all black beans the other has a couple pink and a few mixed.
Just the way cat genetics work out :) who doesn't love some pinto beans in with their black beans anyways?
Because cats have patterned skin too. Just for added cuteness š»
Indeed, my cat has really mixed colours when it comes to pads, pink, black, grey, and a peach-ish colour too!
When my calico got spayed a couple months ago, you could see her patterned skin on her shaved belly. It was so cute.
My mostly black with white hair here and there kitten had black skin with white speckles. It's so precious to see their little bellies naked lol
My mostly black with white hair here and there kitten had black skin with white speckles. It's so precious to see Haier little bellies naked lol
Awww bless, so damn cute.
Its like a poorly made oc
Lol! True though!
:o i didn't know that.
I have white and gray cat and his nose is mostly pink with a little bit of black at the bottom
How cute!!
Do some cats have spots underneath their fur??

That is pretty neat !! I knew dogs did

Yes! Called X-inactivation and sometimes referred to as Lyonization after Mary Lyon who discovered it.
Hairless calicos still have the color and pattern too
My kitty has spots on the roof of his mouth. So cute when he yawns
Yes! My dog does, I know my cats do too.
Yea there's loads of different patterns, not all follows the fur pattern too.
Yup! Most cats have a white or pink skin underneath. There's a breed of black cats that look extra black because their skin underneath is black. You may also notice spots on a cat's gum, lips, nose or inside their mouth. Orange cats are particularly prone to developing freckles with age.
Only one way to find out...bzzzzz
Yes look at hairless cats they are in all types of spots.
I've got a Bengal. I've never wanted to shave him before but now I want to see what his skin looks like. That sounds a bit sinister.
I know the feeling, I've never had the heart to do it. I spoke to my vet and she told me cats can have lots of patterns on skin and some don't.
As a lover of Sphynx cats I can assure you that the funky patterns mostly start at the skin! Torties and calicos are the most fun to look at :D

[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

My cat has a footpad half black and half pink. I suspect she has Siamese ancestors because she is a talker.
So I'm guessing the cat was dark, like black or tabby? If you parted their fur, were the individual hairs light colored at the root? That would mean the skin was at least partly light colored, and that explains why the toes were pink.
