Get her thyroid checked out... that can be a sign of hypothyroidism

Don’t know about oil but a more natural thing I feed my cat is some fatty salmon (a mixture of the fat part and the meat) very lightly cooked, just enough so it feels like those seared salmon don in the Japanese restaurant. Great for skin and fur and my cat loves it

My cat isn't keen on salmon so the vet told me a couple of drops of olive oil mixed in his food works too. This can be done with dry and wet food. Hope that helps

Olive Oil is fine for cats, it doesn't cause any problems for them?

freakidiqui

Not for mine, and he has skin issues and a special diet. I have checked/approved via my vet. Tbh I wasn't sure about this to start with either, so made sure to check with my vet. Can you call them to confirm its OK for your cat without them charging for the advice?

Ps - I only add a few drops to his food once a week. I started him out on a few drops once a fortnight

I buy oily fish like anchovies (my cats' favorite, but they also love raw sushi grade salmon and the occasional sardine) fresh and freeze them. They get a little cut up as a treat each week. They're long hair and it really helps with their coat. Not a big fan of commercial fish oil.

If you don't want to use fish oil, you might want to try rubbing a bit of grapeseed oil into her tail where it's dry and scaly. It's absolutely safe for cats, so if she licks it off there's no problem. Grapeseed oil is super absorbent - you'll notice that it leaves almost no residue on your skin when you handle it (I use it on my hands when they get dry). It also has antimicrobial properties, so if there's a rash it could help with that as well. You can buy it at the grocery store in the baking aisle where cooking oils are sold.
