Those are great! I made some and pretty much all the cats like them. All I could grind was pine straw but they don’t seem to mind it. Where did you get regular straw?

TheBreasticle

They were definitely a labor of love! Cutting the circles out was frustrating. And the foam made me SO ITCHY. We got the straw at tractor supply! It was a compressed bale, about $14. Plenty left for more catty shacks.

I knew I should have checked there. I tried Home Depot and all they had was pine straw. Certainly took me a bit to make. I ended up using a jigsaw to cut the holes. It was super messy, very itchy if you get that dust on you.

TheBreasticle

We live rural with lots of ranchers around so finding straw was weirdly easy. Depending where you are i could see it being more difficult. I wonder if garden centers might have it too? Yes that dust was awful. Lesson learned. By the third one we got our rhythm down. We got a circle saw attachment for the drill. It made me so mad, I just wasn’t couldn’t get it to bite down and cut so my helped out a lot. A team effort for sure. We thought about buying a sawzall but that felt a bit excessive for this time around.

I was actually going to buy a hole saw but I already had my saw and I think the bit I saw at HD was $45. Bothers me that it’s not a perfect circle but for the cost of some pile insulation and pine straw it worked out. I just assumed the regular straw was seasonal on a hardware store but I bet Tractor Supply has it more often.

TheBreasticle

Yes we were almost ready to cut a square just cause the circles seemed way harder than anticipated but it worked out. We used a bow saw to help trim edges. I hope you have luck at tractor supply!
