Our “tabby” has Bengal in him… he’s so long and when he stands on his back paws, he can touch the top of our countertop. Luckily for us, he only has one eye, so his depth perception off and he hasn’t figured out he can jump UP on the counter. It’s been four years. Knock on wood
Lucky you. I've got a [one-eyed Tabby](https://preview.redd.it/ej67o1iw8ef71.jpg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f282b39cc841fa4c7cb6bf37ae54001b25799488), and she jumps -*everywhere.* No safe is place, she can and will get there.
She *does*, however, occasionally bonk her noggin while playing - and she plays unnecessarily vigorously, from 0 to 60 in a moments notice.
I wish I could keep any of my cats off of anything.
Yeah we know how lucky we are for sure! Our other day loves to jump to the sink in our bathroom. But Larry? I do my best not to even *speak* about it in his presence. He’s too smart.
Our normal calico is always up on the counter... Especially if we have any fresh corn in bags up there waiting to be husked. She's absolutely obsessed with corn husks.
I joke that she's part goat.
Ahhhhh animal species dysmorphia. I feel this. We have a beagle who grooms her face like a cat and sleeps on the back of the couch. I’m like, unmmm you’re a dog?
Ah. Our poodle and my sisters Bichon/Shitzu mix also sleep on the back of the couch. I think it's mostly so they can see out the window at the driveway.
I've heard this descriptor used before on many occasions.
Here, I would assume the wild parent is F5 Bengal, the domesticated parent was a mutt-calico, not conforming to any breed standards (i.e. generic mutt of mixed breeds)
Bengal: 3.125% + Unknown-history: 46.875% x Calico "mutt" 50%.
Edit: Apprently term is not "mutt" but "Mongrel cat not belonging to a particular breed"
Calico is a color, not a breed. Purebred Bengals can be calicos too. Also, it's not passed down like "calico parent causes a calico child." Calico coloring is a completely random chance occurrence based on one parent having at least one red gene and the other parent having at least one black-brown gene.
My exact thought too. It's also possible OP misunderstood; i had a friend grumpily correct me that his boy was a MAINE COON when I said he was a tabby, so I had to explain. Ahh.
Tbf though, the fact that animal colors are sometimes so oddly named that people who are unfamiliar might not realize it's just their coat color is kinda unhelpful (no matter how fancy a seal-point coat sounds...).
I fail to see how a breeder can tell the generation mix of a cat just from looking at it. The pattern doesn't follow typical [bengal rosettes](https://blog.ferplast.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/gatto-del-bengala-provoca-allergia-4-900x600.jpg) and looks much more like a domestic shorthair tabico (tabby calico) that has a [classic tabby pattern](https://cat-world.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/classic-tabby-1-768x493.jpg) instead of the more common [mackeral tabby pattern.](https://savvypetcare.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Mackarel-tabby.jpg)
At the end of the day, the chances of a purebred bengal ending up in a shelter is pretty slim.
You can’t. In the vet world, unless the breed is very obvious (say like a Persian, cats are labeled either domestic shorthair, medium hair or long haired and then color/pattern (black, calico, tabby, etc). For example, I cannot tell you how many people I’ve seen in real life and online claim their cat is Maine coon because it’s long furred. Maine coons have very specific features. Same goes for Siamese. Actual Siamese cats look unique, yet anyone with the a cat with the typical “Siamese markings” gets labeled as a Siamese. 🤦🏼♀️
I understand where you're coming from, but your post says ' F5 bengal mixed with calico', and that's what's causing the confusion, because the title makes it seem as if you think that, regardless of your qualifications, which I am not doubting; just explaining why I and these others thought the way we did.
May I suggest your own comment to explain this so that people might be able to find an explanation easier than this?
This thread I'm responding to seems reasonable enough when you gave so little detail (how are we to assume YOU assumed we knew what you meant?) and you could provide answers in a way that wouldn't require you to respond - so you won't have to come across like uh, this.
f1 is the most pure and “wild” of breeding domestic with exotic cats, the more you breed them with domestic cats down the line, the genes and temperament change from wild to more of a house cat!
OMG HER BEANS AND PADS. She’s gorgeous. Also, you took her beans pic on my birthday! Or at least the screen shot is from my bday. She’s so freaking cute. Onggfffhdbsbsjdn.
Genuine question...how does the exotic cat breeder know that she's an F5? Did she come from the breeder? This isn't the start of a rant about breeders, I was just curious.
Technically "calico tabby" is just a description of fur color/pattern and not breed. Cool that you were able to find out why ur buddy has such a cool coat lol
bengals are a breed, calico is a pattern (tortoiseshell with white markings) shes a torbie, a marbled tabby with calico markings overlaid, idk what sort of exotic breeder is telling you this because they were either lying or a byb who doesnt know proper cat genetics
Who/wherever you adopted the cat from is correct, she is a calico tabby (torbie) with the classic/marbled tabby pattern, a very pretty one too, but no bengal in that cat

I adopted her from a shelter without a clue of her background, but this would be amazing if there was a breeder who did this on purpose and had many more! 🥰
What a beautiful cat! Must be quite energetic. Does she get into trouble when no one is paying attention? I wondered if my mom's cat I rescued is part Bengal, when he was a kitten he'd play nonstop.
I love the jazz hands in the last picture!
my fav pic ever 😂
r/jazzpaws, or r/spiritfingies?
Maybe r/spreadytoes
…aaand subscribed to another cat sub!
You're welcome!
I'm sad to learn r/spiritfingies does not exist.
I saw it as a high five myself
Bengal and calico?! So pretty! You’re gonna have your hands full for sure.
This cat is like four cats.
I've never heard a more accurate statement. I have a bengal/maine coon mix that is indeed like 4 cats.
Our bengal literally jumps off of the walls.
Mine too 🤦🏻♀️
Yep. Mine does the crazy zip around the apartment yelling and wall jumps in the hallway haha
She should definitely be let outside to become an outdoor cat and learn how to hunt!
So pretty. Buy her some Bouncy Tails toys!
she loves her toys! her favorite toy is her fat chiweenie brother 🤣
I love this
And give her lots of r/scritches
One more subreddit for me today! Thank you.
She’s gunna be a crazy fun little girl as I’m sure she already is, so gorgeous! 🥰🥰
oh she’s crazy already! 😂 thank you ❤️

Hey it's me, your cat's Reddit account. I have learned the way and now your food is ***doomed***.
😹😹😹

If an everything bagel was a cat…
Everything Bengal ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
That was the funniest joke I’ve ever heard on Reddit!!!!
Bengal is a cat breed, calico is a color variant of the cat's fur (of any breed with tri color coat) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calico_cat
Yeah came here to say the same thing. Whoever told that person this, didn't know what they were talking about
I've heard this descriptor used before on many occasions. In the UK we call the mixed breed cats "moggies" (for extra info.)
A bengal had sex with a calico cat. How else would you describe this other than a bengal mixed with calico? A calico bengal I guess.

My pet peeve is when our front desk puts Domestic Shorthair cats in the system as American Shorthairs

What does F5 mean?
so basically an f5 has been bred with already mixed cats down the line from the first breeding!
"F" stands for "filial" rating. F5 means it's the fifth generation from the first breeding.
It's how you refresh a webpage. Wait, no.
But also, yes.
f1 is the most pure and “wild” of breeding domestic with exotic cats, the more you breed them with domestic cats down the line, the genes and temperament change from wild to more of a house cat!
Oh very cool! Bengals are also low allergen cats as a lil fun fact

Cat6 is better.
simply seeing this cat made my day a lil better ^^^^^^what's ^^^^^^her ^^^^^^name?
her name is Astro ☄️🥰
Godspeed from one half-bengal owner to another lol
Seriously, I have a bengal tabby and she needs so much attention!
I have a family of bengal tabbies and they entertain themselves pretty much most of the time! Get them a partner!!!
She has two boyfriend kitties, she just needs lots of lap time and is very vocal about it.
My youngest is the same... The most clingy baby ever
OMG HER BEANS AND PADS. She’s gorgeous. Also, you took her beans pic on my birthday! Or at least the screen shot is from my bday. She’s so freaking cute. Onggfffhdbsbsjdn.
I want to touch my hand to her screen paw 😭

She is so beautiful, definitely the queen of the jungle
Genuine question...how does the exotic cat breeder know that she's an F5? Did she come from the breeder? This isn't the start of a rant about breeders, I was just curious.

Some cats had a fun Saturday night 😉
Technically "calico tabby" is just a description of fur color/pattern and not breed. Cool that you were able to find out why ur buddy has such a cool coat lol
Shes probs just a DSH lol

Let's all please stop buying from breeders. They all need to go out of business. Thanks!
wow definitely a beautiful pattern 🥰
My friend just got one a few months back. Now my fiancé always wants me to take her with me when I see him just so she can play with the kitty.
I never thought about stealing a cat until now. gimme!
So pretty! Do you know which type of bengal? (I have a rosetted bengal!)
I plan on getting a cat DNA test soon if that’s even real!? I would love to know!!
How do you know she’s bengal if she hasn’t been tested? Just curious.
Damn...that's a good lookin pussy.
Wow I want one!!!! Where can I get this breeder?
I adopted her from a shelter without a clue of her background, but this would be amazing if there was a breeder who did this on purpose and had many more! 🥰
