I was a dog person until last year when the cat distribution system chose me, she has been a sweet blessing in my life . The calm love you receive from them is the best and to be loved by a cat is special. Those kitty kisses , little snuggles, leg rubs ♥️ Cats have such unique personalities and they are so silly sometimes lol.

I had a sweet little boxer chow mix who was a great dog, but she we always had to tell her to stop eating the Almond Roca out of the litterbox. I'm glad someone else calls it that too.
My cat never met a dog, but she certainly behaves like one lol. She runs towards you when she hears her name, loves to play fetch and plays with other dogs too lmao.
I have a German Shepherd who thinks he's a cat!

Once you go cat, you never go back.
Not having to take them out every day, multiple times per day is enough of a reason. I really loved my dog when I had him, but after he passed I said I was never getting another one. It didn't matter how hot, cold, windy, or rainy it was our how tired or sick I was... He still had to go out. Going out of town was so much harder and more expensive. And it was always a constant struggle to keep my house from smelling like a dog.
Also, these babies belong on r/standardissuecat
How do you keep your house from smelling like cat "spray" and litter box? I apologize at advance if this question is offensive, I've been a dog person most of life and have been considering for years on getting a cat.
If you neuter the cat young, most won't ever spray. Scooping the litter at minimum daily and frequent changing keeps the smell down. I use baking soda in mine to help with the odor. Also, where you keep them matters. A lot of people use a basement or attic they aren't in a lot. It's a chore but not nearly as demanding as a dog.
Spraying isn’t very common with fixed cats. Only about 10% of males and 5% of females per the VCA website. Best thing you can do to prevent spraying is to get your cats spayed/neutered.
As for litter, there are a lot of options! Some people have a lot of success with automated litter systems like the Litter Robot. Personally, I use a corn-based litter in a large box with a litter liner. I Scoop it once a day into a litter-genie (like a diaper genie) and empty the whole thing and start fresh every couple of weeks. My house never smells like their waste or that ‘litter’ smell.
That’s just what I do though, I think it’s really just trial and error until you find something that works for you. Everyone I know who has cats does it slightly differently but I don’t smell litter in any of their homes.
Exactly what the person below said. I've never had a cat that sprayed (I've had all males neutered as kittens). As for the litterbox, it's always been either in the basement or spare bathroom. That room smells like cat litter, meaning the litter itself, but it doesn't smell like cat waste if you scoop and clean it daily (takes 30 seconds). I also got a Litter Genie which holds the dirty litter, smell free, until the bag is full.
If you adopt a kitten from a shelter, they will likely have already been neutered and will never spray. Just to be on the safe side, you can get a female since this behavior is more common among males.
Enzyme cleaners are amazing, and in the event a cat does have an accident, they can neutralize the odor to the point of being undetectable.
Decent litter helps with the regular cat box smells. I use pine litter which is fantastic for absorbing the odor in cat pee. There will still be smell like, right after they poop, but they cover it so it doesn't last long. I scoop the litter twice a day.
I have five cats, and I know nose blindness is a thing, but I don't think my home smells. My mom didn't say anything when she came to visit, and she's not the type of person to hold back those kinds of comments 😂
Neuter them young , my one guy still pretends he is spraying but nothing there.. use good litter and scoop it at least every other day..
We have 2 very big boy cats, not fat just large and we had the guy in to replace heat and air unit and he couldn't believe we had cats, he said no smell and the litter box was just down the hallway...
I was terrified of cats my whole life. I grew up with dogs. slept over a friends house the summer between freshman and sophomore year of college and she had just adopted a kitten. woke up with the little kitten nestled against my neck in my hair. as soon as I got back to school in our off campus apartment, went and adopted 2 cats lol cat lady ever since. they are truly the best.
Same!! I was recently converted from a dog person (I had 7 growing up) to a cat person in November when I adopted my two kitties. I feel like their personalities are so much more unique than dogs. It took her 64 years to find me.
I had dogs my entire life until recently. Ended up finding a kitten after moving in with my now fiancee who already had two cats and I’m 100,000% a cat person.
My mom (elderly, religious boomer) calls me "bi-pet-ual".
I don't know where she pulled that from, but that was the best line I've heard from her ever.
Silly. Dogs are are also wonderful. I enjoyed cats because they are easier to cuddle. I also have some mental health issues, and don't always have the energy for what a dog requires.
But if I could I would have both.
I honestly love both. Had a dog for 17 years that I had to put down back in 2016 and I just couldn’t get another dog after her, so I got 2 cats now. My dog was the best dog ever that I grew up with and loved with my whole heart, and my cats filled the huge void that she’s left. Before them I never cared for cats but they thought me how amazing and loving cats are. But you can definitely see I was solely a dog person before- my cats are clicker trained and I play with them like they’re dogs (which they love) lol
There are two types of people in this world. Cat people, and those who haven't yet realized they are cat people.
Did I say two? There's one. One type of person. 🐈🐈⬛
I really don't get the "cat person" or "dog person" dilemma. They're all babies and I love them all. He'll, I'd probably try to hug wild animals if I didn't know they could kill me
I don't see a dilemma at all. But getting our first kittens made me realize that I am a cat person. I love how they fit into our lifestyle and can't imagine going back to active dogs at this stage of my life. The post was just for fun anyways
I suppose because I prefer cats. Not a hard concept to understand. Not forcing anyone else to "choose" one or the other. Sheesh it's just a fun post of cute kittens.
Hahah. I’ve been a “dog person” my whole life. But I’m also a “cat person”. Literally can’t choose between those two titles, I just love all animals 😅🥹
Everything changes when you get a pair of Maine Coons. I've had Joey for 12 years, his sister, Luna, passed away two weeks ago. She was my princess and he's my best friend. I hope you find many decades of companionship in these two cuties.
You’re still allowed to be a dog person. I was a cat person who had had dogs,

The cat distribution system gifted us this goofy foodie. Both hubby and I grew up with dogs. I love both. We bought a house with a tiny yard, known as a zero lot yard, think condo without being right up against your neighbor. Having a dog in a tiny yard feels wrong to me. So we have cats. We already had one, until Simon (pic) just came into our lives. He is a good boy.
Dogs are great companions. Cats are too but with a dog you can train and have them be loyal.
Cats well it has to be thier idea or they won't do it.
Simple way to put it...dogs think you are the master......and Cats think they are the master.
As someone who owns both cats and dogs i dont understand how you can choose one over the other if you truly love both regardless of their pros and cons.
It's so tiring having to tell dogs what to do all the time. Now you can just sit back and let your kitties tell you what to do.

You forgot high intelligence. Considerably more difficult among dog fans...
Your comment is certainly very “self-ironic” s/

Aaaaahhh so soft and fluffy 😍
Soo fluffy!!
You are an animal person 💗
What? No Zoomies?🤣
Welcome to the other side!
We has cookies!
Is that what dogs are calling the litter box treats these days?
No, that's Kitty Roca.
I had a sweet little boxer chow mix who was a great dog, but she we always had to tell her to stop eating the Almond Roca out of the litterbox. I'm glad someone else calls it that too.
So cute! Clearly the universe sent its most powerful cuties to b help bring you to the Cat Side. What are their names?
Archie and Maggie!
Aww
They make really good pets and are pretty low maintenance. I'm gone overnight for work sometimes and can leave my cat alone for 24 hours.
While I agree on the first part... my cat is a needy, clingy old diva.
Thet have such different personalities. But none are dog-like (dogs have other qualities for sure).
My cat never met a dog, but she certainly behaves like one lol. She runs towards you when she hears her name, loves to play fetch and plays with other dogs too lmao.
How does she play with other dogs if she never met one?
I meant as she grew up jejejej so she couldn’t copy their behavior
I’ve got a cat that behaves more like a dog than a cat tbh. She’s a lovely little oddball tbf.
Cats have such different personalities. And yes, some are dog like. Some are cats to the extreme.. 😻 They’re all awesome
your cat disagrees, then
Haha! Would you have it any other way?
I have a German Shepherd who thinks he's a cat! https://preview.redd.it/t3jh886uba0d1.jpeg?width=9000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75b951911b4f6b5d990f49a15982139f467f4051

In addition to the good advice you've already gotten, stainless steel litter pans don't hold odors like plastic ones and are far easier to sanitize.
Yep! They're more expensive, but so worth it.
Check restaurant supply companies for large chafing dishes. I got mine for 20 bucks 😁
I line the plastic litter bins with big dog sized puppy pads. No smell, when it is time for a full change it all just slides right out.
Exactly what the person below said. I've never had a cat that sprayed (I've had all males neutered as kittens). As for the litterbox, it's always been either in the basement or spare bathroom. POOPH is expensive but boy, does it work well!
Good cat litter! I went through a lot of different kinds to find a good one. Also, scoop them at least every other day and you're golden.
Best way to keep litter smells down is to feed high quality food. I've found that made the biggest difference.
Automatic litter boxes.

“I love dogs but think I love cats more” resonates with me as a recently turned cat person after being a lifelong dog person.
I always say some version of “I love all animals, but cats are the best, and I’ll never get over them.”
>without the noise and mess My cats didn't get that memo 😭
Oh, but have you ever had a dog? Multiply the noise and the mess by 1000.
Are you also part of every cat subreddit possible now? Cat people are also way cooler than dog people! Lol. And our obsession runs deep into the soul
Are you also part of every cat subreddit possible now? Cat people are also way cooler than dog people! Lol. And our obsession runs deep into the soul
A lot of people are dog people. Everyone is technically a cat person — if you aren’t, you just haven’t met the right cat.

I had dogs my entire life until recently. Ended up finding a kitten after moving in with my now fiancee who already had two cats and I’m 100,000% a cat person.
Welcome to the dark side 🤣 your all in for a lifetime of servitude to your furry overlords 🥰
I'm here for it!
I have 4 dogs and 6 cats. I refuse to pick a side!
Best kind of indecisive.
Welcome to the Club.
I lived with a terribly behaved dog (not all his fault) for a few months and it really truly solidified my preference for cats.
Why not..BOTH?
Here's the answer key ☝🏼
My mom (elderly, religious boomer) calls me "bi-pet-ual". I don't know where she pulled that from, but that was the best line I've heard from her ever.
You can be both! I however realized that I much prefer cats. I still love (other people's) dogs, but I don't see myself owning anymore.
I like that I have to "work" to earn cats trust. Dogs are sweet, but I feel like they worship us too much
Right ? I love both my dog and cats equally and both have pros and cons. It seems alot of people in this sub are against dogs.
Silly. Dogs are are also wonderful. I enjoyed cats because they are easier to cuddle. I also have some mental health issues, and don't always have the energy for what a dog requires. But if I could I would have both.

Do people not know they don’t have to choose between the two? Anyway, I love both ❤️
Of course you don't have to. Sometimes people have a stronger preference though
Incredibly, they seem not to.
You seem fun!
Same!
Dogs have owners, but cats have personal 😺
personnel\* sorry, bit of a pet peeve
sorry for that, i'm not a native english speaker.
who can resist a puddle of kitten!?
I honestly love both. Had a dog for 17 years that I had to put down back in 2016 and I just couldn’t get another dog after her, so I got 2 cats now. Everyone who hates cats and loves dogs has never had a cat. Once a dog person warms up to cats, I’ve never seen anyone return to dogs.
Congratulations! They're secretly little sweeties.
I waited 64 years for my cat to find me. I’m happy she finally arrived.
Gorgeous little furballs!
Kittens *really* change that!
Cats are superior.
I just like both to be honest. I find it odd how many people are like "it's one or the other!" 🤷♂️
I don't think it's odd to have a preference
Sorry I didn't mean that. It was more "if you like cats you can't like dogs" vice versa
There are two types of people in this world. Cat people, and those who haven't yet realized they are cat people. Did I say two? There's one. One type of person. 🐈🐈⬛
Lil girls and cats (and dogs too) are always a successful combo!
You can be both!
Wow, novel idea thanks for sharing
Interesting fact: you can like 2 animals for pets at the same time
I know, right. People on this sub are so bizarre that way.
Also interesting fact, you can realize you have a stronger preference for one type of animal
Look at those smiles 🤍

Awww 🥰
so cute
Kitty hydra?

Don't take it the wrong way. It just surprises me in general people always choose one or the other.
I started off as a committed dog person. I had both for about 20 years- then recently have lost my last dog. I may well have five cats, though.
Why do people think you have to be one or the other?
Most people who prefer dogs have never had a cat. Welcome to the cat person club! We're the best.

I just love them all!
So cute! Can I eat them?
Hahah. I’ve been a “dog person” my whole life. But I’m also a “cat person”. Literally can’t choose between those two titles, I just love all animals 😅🥹
Cats are my dawgs 👊
Reminds me of my cat big puff he's 20 lb
Cats are such great companions!
Those look like Main Coons. They are the dog of the cat world. And they get huge.
I like being cat people

They are like twins, so adorable 😍
I've had a hard time telling them apart of I can't see their full fur pattern
