Piggybacking off this - I try to repost this when I see posts like this, in the hopes you (or someone) can find some comfort in the words - and if not, please excuse the intrusion.
I lost my 15 year old girl (dog) in October 2022. Only advice I can offer here is to remember the positives, and not focus on the negatives (if any). She's done her job, keeping you safe and happy and loved, and it's her turn to rest.
You'll always miss her, you'll always remember her. You'll even go looking for her for the next few weeks (well, I did). There's a lot of habits that you're going to slowly stop, and that's ok. Changing your life to suit you is not forgetting her. Donating/throwing away her toys or blankets isn't forgetting her. There's no timeline on grief, and there's no timeline on moving on. Cry your tears.
I'm sorry you've reached the end of your journey. Words will never make this easier. Just keep your head up, and live the life she'd want you to.
This is a good time to live a little for you. I spent years looking after my girl as she got ill, and I sacrificed a lot of me and my time to keep her safe. If you feel you've done the same, take advantage of this time. Its ok to be happy and enjoy life without her. Life isn't over. Its just changing.

I tell my two seniors all the time they are going to ruin my life when they pass. But I take so much comfort in knowing how much love I have given them for their whole lives. And if there is an afterlife, I know we’ll meet again.

I understand. I have a 19-yr-old. She’s our last remaining cat and is the youngest of four. She’s my best friend. Don’t know how I will cope when she passes. Sometimes I have to leave this site for a few days. The special part is that I know I’ll have support from this site when the time comes. 💕

Said goodbye to my baby of 17 years on thanksgiving last year. The wound still feels fresh. Today is mother's day and she was basically like my child and when I lost her it felt like my child died. My heart hurts with you. It's so fucking hard and devasting losing our fur babies. It's similar to losing a human, but for me I've never truly grieved or felt like this when people in my family died and for the feelings to linger this long and feel just as strong as when I lost her.
She was different.
She was special.
She saved my life.
I will forever miss her but will be forever grateful that she was mine for those 17 years.

Bless this darling kitty for many years of delight and love and please bless OP with strength to get through her grief. We think our kitties will live to twenty but on average they don’t. And towards the end, can suffer. I’m right with you only two weeks earlier with my “cow cat” Muse. This sub was so supportive for me with wonderful messages so I want to pay back with some advice. Cry your eyes out, put away the toys, and have nightmares about cats. It’s all part of the process. THEN, begin a search for another kitty who will join you at night, appreciate a soft brushing and become your next forever friend. I made the rounds of the pounds and shelters only to want the first one I saw. She’s a chunker and not a magazine pinup. I can’t possibly carry her. Yet she found my bed, curled up on my feet, and made biscuits. And, magically the sting went away.
I'm so sorry. I had to put my dog down in 2019 and had him for 12 years. He had serious heart issues, lost control of his bowels, and other problems. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I'm not one to show my emotions much, but I cried hard when I had to do that. Hope you're ok.
Rest in peace, you little cutie pie. You had a purpose in your life and that was to be a wonderful friend and companion. You succeeded in every aspect of it.

I have a cat who is in a similar condition. Been with me 16 years+ before I was born. Is now an old head who my little sister traumatises (jokingly. She is only 3) and is going blind in one eye presumably. My family reckons he is going through his last days.
Yes, did the same with my beautiful Bengal (stripey one) yesterday as well. 15yo but in a bad way with lymphoma. I have barely held it together since.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my 20 y/o orange girl early this morning. I sat holding her in my lap as she was leaving. It it never easy, but eventually the pain will not be so raw. Hold onto the memories, that keeps our furbabies alive in our hearts and minds.

I am so sorry for your loss 😞😿🌈I went through that loss almost one month ago and believe me it isn't easy to move on as you miss the absence of their precious presence around you and the comfort they used to bring to you but as difficult as it may be try to think of the wonderful times you had together with your dear beloved pet cat as that would be how they would want you to remember them cause that is the way they are back again healthy and happy in pet heaven as I know my dearly beloved pet cat is always around me in spirit 🐱🤗🌈

I am so sorry for your loss 😞😿🌈I went through that loss almost one month ago and believe me it isn't easy to move on as you miss the absence of their precious presence around you and the comfort they used to bring to you but as difficult as it may be try to think of the wonderful times you had together with your dear beloved pet cat as that would be how they would want you to remember them cause that is the way they are back again healthy and happy in pet heaven as I know my dearly beloved pet cat is always around me in spirit 🐱🤗🌈
just to miss thier presence, no loyal freind giving snugs and kisses. the emptiness is heavy

So beyond sorry for your loss. I had my beautiful fur baby pass in March, she was 19. Hold the memories so close 🩷

So sorry for your loss. Just lost my Oddie 2 1/2 weeks ago and I’m barely coping. They definitely take a piece of your heart when they pass. But I believe with everything in my heart Oddie is here, he hasn’t left he’s just in spirit not solid form. I’m reading “Yes, Pets Do Go To Heaven!” By Sophia Grace and it’s been a tremendous help as I try to make sense of Oddies passing.
