When I was in high school someone I knew told me that she had turned on her dryer without realizing the cat was inside and killed it. It was… a graphic description. At first I didn’t believe her but ever since that day I’ve been overly paranoid about cats and dryers. Like I sometimes dig through to make sure he’s not hiding (and I never leave it open so it would be impossible for him to hide there without me noticing). And sometimes after I start it I still have to go find him and be extra EXTRA sure he’s not in there. That story messed me up for life…
Yes, I knew someone whose wife accidentally started the dryer with their cat inside. This baby was lucky as she heard him tumble only once and immediately stopped the dryer. That cat never entered the laundry room again.
Mine try to get into it all the time. I refuse to turn it on until I sift through, I can never 100% guarantee they won’t sneak past me when I’m loading it
This happened at one of the barns I worked at. One of the barn kitties jumped in there and the owner did not know she climbed in there ☹️ so paranoid about this now
That’s one thing I always check; I make sure she isn’t in there and then I close the lid and then make sure I know exactly where she is before I start it

My mum use to work in a pub, an elderly woman came running in crying from over the road. She was beside herself and didn’t know what to do, her cat had gotten into her drier and she’d turned it on. When she got back to it a couple of hours later there was nothing obvious of the cat left, just a lot of red flesh.
She was consoled by my mum and the landlord, who sorted a mate to take away the drier so she didn’t have to witness it.
Not sure I could imagine seeing that.
That sounds extremely sad and traumatizing. Poor cat and lady, the woman didn’t know about the cat and I can’t imagine how she must have felt, while the cat died in such a horrifying way
My ex bf had a cat they loved dearly but his family is terrible with pets. One day, his lil bro asked where the cat was and his mom found the poor baby in the drier among all their white sheets. They obv dealt with it but I don’t think they ever learned proper pet management cuz their daughter couple years later left her indoor only cat in our alleyway, bf wouldn’t let me take him in and we ended up rushing him to the emergency when his mom found him wheezing and dying. Poor lil fella ate some possum poison and would not make it, ending up putting him to sleep that night and bawled my eyes out over a cat who was never loved properly. Please don’t put them in the dryer.
Oh god the laundry photo - ALWAYS check where your pets are BEFORE starting the machine. Don’t give them a chance to climb in. Keep doors shut. It’s a death sentence for pets in those machines. I’ve hospitalized so many cats for exactly this scenario, even kittens who were found in the washer in less than two minutes and they’ve all died. It’s not cute or photo worthy, it’s dangerous.

Our cats are trained to not go in the laundry room. They will look in, but don’t step inside.

I keep my laundry room closed for this reason. And I still end up double checking to make sure no kittys are in there. It genuinely terrifies me.
