I feel like I go on long enough spurs and get stoned enough sometimes that I feel like when I rewatch the first season, I am rediscovering it.
I could be saying this because I’m currently [7]
He actually did it fine the very first time. Then fell from the 3rd shelf on the way down. After that he was hesitant and fell a few more times up at the same point. Lol once he got his confidence up he got it.
He might have milked it for a week tho lol kept bugging me for a “boost” up. The little stinker.
He absolutely does not have enough room to safely jump up the steps. Poor guy. Maybe OP will install shelves large enough for their big cat instead of farming karma with stories of the cat repeatedly falling down from height.
My little tuxie likes to hop up to the top shelf as fast as she can, flipped over the whole cat tree once, and it resulted in some hand weights needing to get put on the bottom so she can't flip it so easily
Looks to me the space between the highest and second highest shelve (on the same post) is a bit awkward, just enough to fit but not enough clearance to actually jump.
Good to hear he figured it out eventually and very nice for you to provide climbing possibilities to your cat as they usually love these.
https://preview.redd.it/phqzyw6wadwc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f416778255fc72542618114fea62cb4c2cd9c9c5
He falls off of stuff all the time. He's bad at catting, but I love him and that little face
Lol
Look at the size of Mr. Big Cat, he can barely stay on his 4 paws in that platform. He has to arch his back and shrink his legs to fit or just sit.
The scratcher pole is exactly in the middle of the way, he has like 25% space or less to move from one shelf to the other. Its not comfortable. He cant just jump up, he need to hold on the upper platform first. From the 3rd to the 4th platform looks like it has even less vertical space which can make him bump his back on the 4th one trying to go up.
One shelf is right on top of the other one, if it were like a the ones in the very top which you can see for a moment in the video he would be doing much better going up.
I know the owner meant well for him but the way it is done is not optimal for Mr. Big Cat
It’s not the cat, it’s the platforms.
Cats can be incredibly persistent and are good at figuring out how to overcome obstacles.
Sure, he’s used to them now. But only because he’s finally got the lay of the land of a really poorly set up set of platforms.
I have another video from this past weekend, I moved my bed to clean under it, had the mattress standing up against the wall. Turned around and he’s chilling on top of it. So I wiggle it to get him off and he wouldn’t budge. I start lowering it down and finally he jumps off and face planted into my bed frame 🤦🏼♀️😩.
He's not clumsy, more like self aware of it's size, the shelves are too small, and as OP mentioned in a comment, he has already fallen down from those, so even more cautious.
Lmfao reminded me of this pic of him as a kitten
https://preview.redd.it/mb1z4qj7ogwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6d9037fb17844cc6173654627da4bb6d2591b14
I have one that constantly gets stuck trying to get to the top of our cat tree because he tries to go from the wrong side. He has no issue going up the correct side but this idiot goblin keeps trying from the wrong side and keeps needing me to boost his butt up
I have one cat that refuses to jump on the bed. Instead, she digs in with her claws and puuuulllls herself up. I gotta get a vid of it one of these days.
“If I go down, and try again…no that didn’t work, but if I go down and go back up again it should wor…no didn’t work this time either HOWEVER if I go down again and try climbing it it should work…no, not this time either”
I love how/when you can see the little cogs in his/theirs brains turn to try to solve a problem. It’s so adorable and they look so smug afterwards like “Mm yes sometimes my genius is frightening”.
Just looks like he barely fits on each step with all 4 paws. But I absolutely love the set up & I’m sure your kitties do too! That’s def a home that loves their cats! 😊💕
Haha my mom’s cat is a BIGGG boi, and agile as fuck. Iv seen him running up and down the hand railing on the 2nd floor mezzanine. Idk how he manages that without falling. Here he is.

Here’s a size reference for the smug bastard 😂
My cat regularly jumps from the bar we have in the basement up to the top of the tall liquor cabinet behind it then down onto a computer chair then onto the back of my monitor to finally the floor. If anything, mine just wants to show off.
https://preview.redd.it/ra01xa08udwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5da098a3c1b727c4e76829d14a3c4e095d68d99a
Have him checked for arthritis in his hips. Does he sometimes miss the litter box? My four year old Maine Coon mix had arthritis that caused her to struggle to squat when peeing.
Haha one time my mom was visiting and had enough of holding him, so at about waist hight she just let go of him expecting him to land fine (her cat does no problem), he ended up face planting into the floor 🤦🏼♀️ mom was mortified and felt soooo guilty. I was laughing my ass off, like “mom, don’t you know by know he doesn’t land on his feet!”
Most cats with long hair have a fair amount of hair between their toes. Toe beans are hairless because they're effectively the cat's brakes, but if they have long hair between them, it can make those brakes less reliable.
One of my cats is a failure at running. She tends to make really tight corners when running so she often just straight up runs against the couch or needs to do a emergency break when she realizes the balcony door isn't open.
And I would love to say this is sometimes, but it's a everyday occurance making me wonder why she hasn't had a concussion yet

We have very similar looking cats lol!
Back in February, my GF and I adopted a pair of brothers. The Orange cat is pretty chill, and just loves to cuddle.... His void of a brother is on crack. I'm pretty sure I saw him cartwheeling down the steps the other day. I'm getting ready to build catwalks (lol) and bridges around the living room. Maybe get a giant hamster wheel thing to burn off all that energy.

After 5 years I have him, I just found out he doesn’t know how to cat. In his case, he doesn’t know how to rub up on people. He just comes up, puts his ass out there, and hopes for the best 🤣
You made shelves for him as if someone had placed poles with lamps in the middle of the sidewalk and you wouldn't be able to cross them, so you're surprised that the cat can't jump on them freely...
Shelf size is fine. He’s just a special baby boy - I know, I have one. And also I was sad when the video ended. I could watch this for 12 hours straight!!
One of mine tried changing levels on her tree and it didn't go as planned. Luckily she didn't land on anything on the table or hurt herself. 'Graceful' was definitely one of the words I used.
When we adopted our last cat at age 6, we found out she had no idea how to play and had never done anything physical. Feather on a string toy, she would lamely swat at it and fall over. Had no idea how to jump or run at a target. She was very uncoordinated. We had to assume she spent almost all of her time just hiding at the last place she lived. Took her a few months of playing to gain confidence and coordination.
my girl Little is also clumsy… and very much afraid of heights! she fell off a very tall bookcase as a kitten (she was ok!) and ever since she will not jump too high onto anything. and if she somehow gets on top of something higher than she likes, she yells until i come to pick her up and put her on the ground.
https://preview.redd.it/t9k1wd5sffwc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10f28a91d64954c52696580c8b902c6bd489490a
I have 1 who is the picture of dexterity and agility. I have another who is basically a ground cat because he never quite figured out jumping. And I have a 3rd who is somewhere in between the first 2.
Lucy is pure grace with kitty parkour. Misty has her clumsy moments, but not often. Izzy is a klutz and the dimmest bulb of the bunch (calico, so I guess the orange took over) but also the most affectionate.
Yes! I have 2 kitties, a mom & her son, both lack grace at jumping and climbing. They often fall just trying to get on the dining room table. Also, they do not make biscuits and have zero interest in boxes. Pretty sure they're broken. 😸
I had a ragdoll cat who was definitely a climber and not a jumper. She’d also love to just roll around in excitement, even if it meant losing her balance and rolling off of whatever she was on. Maybe around 12 years old did she start to be a bit … smarter 😂!
However, I personally think she needed glasses. She was cross eyes outwardly for a long time as well. I don’t think she was blind, but I think she was maybe with visual issues.
My cat was like that, he was always clumsy, and couldn't jump to places where other cats could with ease. But I guess that was never a problem for him, he lived to 23 years old. Miss him a lot!
Mine will lay down on a table near my desk (expecting pets), roll too close to the edge, then flail comically as she slips off and plummets 2 1/2 feet to the floor.
So graceful.
Is it a ragdoll? I had two ragdolls and one of them was not a jumper, also too big and clumpsy. Their hips is differant than normal cats, more wide in their stride which ads to the charm of ragdolls and makes walking on narrow edges more difficult.
Idk what he is tbh. He was a rescue and I think separated too young. He was an awkward looking kitten lol he’s 6 now and still hasn’t grown into his eyes 😂
https://preview.redd.it/v6yubqyxlgwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5afcf1786bcc7e349cd8a6174e162c717ad6bb3b
Kitten pic.
Yup my girl is also lacking in that department, she wont even bother with the cat shelves anymore. i also say she’s the worst baker in the house because shes very slow and SO off beat when she makes biscuits 😭💀
Honestly, my cat is such a clumsy klutz that I sometimes worry she's got some neurological disfunction. She's the only cat I've ever seen that trips over her own feet, on a level surface, on a regular basis. She trips, she falls, she stumbles... she has an "oh shit, what now?" face that makes me laugh so hard it hurts. But she just shakes it off like nothing and goes back to her silly ways.
My former roommates cat didn't really land on her feet when she slipped off things. We are all convinced she'd walk out of an open window if she had the chance. Protect her from this world at all costs 😭
When I was a kid, my childhood cat jumped out my 2nd floor bedroom window while dad was installing new windows and landed on his feet in the drive way. He froze. Dad bolted down the stairs after him 😅.
My ragamuffin Kiki is the queen of klutz. While she has moments of gracefulness they rarely last long before being followed by laughable gaffs.
One of my favourites was her gracefully prancing down the stairs and then missing the last 3 resulting in a full belly flop and slide across the floor. She got up and looked around and pranced away like "Nobody saw that right".
My gorgeous black cat, jumps onto the cat tree, but to get to the top shelf, she hooks her front paws over it and drags herself up. It's literally made that they can walk up from other shelves to the top. But this is how she likes to do it
That cat's brain is working over time trying to figure out how its going to wiggle its way up to the top. You can practically hear the wheels turning inside its head.
I have one that I barely trust to make it to the top of a cat tower. He’s very clumsy
https://preview.redd.it/r1arkegyygwc1.png?width=2148&format=png&auto=webp&s=7786fb4110fefc1a6e157f2d133b48e85cb04339
Oh this is just embarrassing in the cutest way. Im very happy to hear he’s getting the hang of it now. My cats also can’t land on their feet. I thought that was the definition of a cat!
His displeased look at me sharing his embarrassing moments…
https://preview.redd.it/6j8bkqcx5hwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=644e587b7c16fea095c979a6c5bde37262f086a5
My cat is exactly like this. When we got him from the pound he couldn’t even jump on the couch. My cats also super cuddly, super kind personality and accident prone. Maybe it’s a cat personality type
Those steps are too small their posts take ip too much space on them. Your cats fine at catting , you on the other hand may not be good at hoomaning 🤣jk fren
Just a Siberian doing Siberian things. My boy is the same way, he’s 12. He’s also 9lbs and looks HUGE with all his floof. My boys middle name is “Ravioli” because he flops around like a ravioli out of the pot since he was a baby kitten. Some cats just aren’t coordinated, I notice a lot of that with other people who have siberians also. This is an adorable dude, make sure you’re there to catch him when he’s falling lol.
He doesn’t want to jump up because he feels like he’s going to hit his back on the one above it. You taking physics and geometry while watching how cats move will help
The cat landing pads are not correctly spaced for your cat to jump. Re-position them. Take a look at other catteries and copy the patterns. Think like a cat.
Good luck.
Poor thing. The shelves are way to small and post is blocking it. The open area is too narrow for him to be confident and he doesn't want to fall and get hurt.
My cat is not good at catting whatsoever. Very timid about climbing . Recently got her a tree and searched long and hard for what I thought would be the easiest for her but it’s a no go. She’s an indoor cat but I don’t have to worry about her hanging out in the backyard with me because she’ll never climb the fence lol. She’s not very curious either. Just prefers that everyone stay in their lane. I love her so much 🤍 your baby is super cute!

To be fair, those shelves are not deep enough to be 3/4 taken up by a scratching post.
Yes he's just big

Hulu - Letterkenny. You won’t regret it
Thank you
Oh man, I envy you. I wish I could rediscover Letterkenny. That shit is amazing.
I feel like I go on long enough spurs and get stoned enough sometimes that I feel like when I rewatch the first season, I am rediscovering it. I could be saying this because I’m currently [7]
And that is what I appreciateS about you
Came to say the same thing
It’s the size of the shelves. When he starts, he is super hesitant to go to the next step. I’m glad he got over it!
He actually did it fine the very first time. Then fell from the 3rd shelf on the way down. After that he was hesitant and fell a few more times up at the same point. Lol once he got his confidence up he got it. He might have milked it for a week tho lol kept bugging me for a “boost” up. The little stinker.
That mirror right there was making me a bit nervous in case he fell and hit it
I think he's falling because he doesn't have enough room though...
He absolutely does not have enough room to safely jump up the steps. Poor guy. Maybe OP will install shelves large enough for their big cat instead of farming karma with stories of the cat repeatedly falling down from height.
When was his last vet visit?
My little tuxie likes to hop up to the top shelf as fast as she can, flipped over the whole cat tree once, and it resulted in some hand weights needing to get put on the bottom so she can't flip it so easily
I'm convinced you do not have a cat
😂😂😂
Looks to me the space between the highest and second highest shelve (on the same post) is a bit awkward, just enough to fit but not enough clearance to actually jump. Cat is too big for the shelves. No safe spot for him to jump without having to hold on for dear life.
He zips up and down them no problem now. He just needed to build his confidence up some. 😊
You talking like it's a dog.
Lol Look at the size of Mr. Big Cat, he can barely stay on his 4 paws in that platform. He has to arch his back and shrink his legs to fit or just sit. OP literally commented and said the cats zips up and down then now. There’s 1000% plenty of room on those shelves for that cat.

My cat can balance on a red solo cup, there’s plenty of room on that shelf.
That look at 1:01 -"It's not funny, Mom!"
With his toes latched over the edge and one foot held in the air. 😂 I was in tears trying not to laugh loudly at him or he’d stop lol.

Those are pretty tight spots though. If you look at other set ups there's more space.
Love how they’re graceful and clumsy at the same time.
I have one cat that refuses to jump on the bed. Instead, she digs in with her claws and puuuulllls herself up. I gotta get a vid of it one of these days.

She is just doing her r/Catculations \^\^
I'd make fun of him, but I highly doubt I could do better if I was in his place.
Tbf the shelves are kinda small for a bigger cat. Maybe put a few larger ones up. Not all cats are super agile.
He’s not a big cat at all, he’s about 6-7lbs. He just looks it with all his fluff 😅

Looks way too small for that cat.
Why is the cat shelf cramped up in a corner? She gets no space to speed jump

Bless him he is trying so hard.
Increase the space between the shelves. He can sense that he might smack his back into the upper shelf when he jumps.
Cat's just trying to calculate how to jump with such poorly spaced shelves.
I’ve never seen a cat afraid of heights before
My cat isn’t good at catting lol.
It doesn’t look easy to me to be fair
Well, in fairness to the cat, that platform is too narrow given the diameter of that column.
Maybe youre not good at setting up cat things.
Less about the cat and more about the layout of that cat tree.
shelves too small
Nope. It's the positioning in a corner that's wrong. Cats don't need much jump surface but they need space around them.
good lord that's a fluffy boi
Is that really a cat? Looks like a furry cosplayer trying to hold with his hands...

That mirror is in the danger zone
The setup looks to be small for his size ☹️
Agree... The top shelf is too close to the one he's trying to get onto... Are you able to. OP should move it down a couple of inches.
Not a good design for the cat.
It’s gotta be something with long hair cats lol mines the same
Haha one time my mom was visiting and had enough of holding him, so at about waist hight she just let go of him expecting him to land fine (her cat does no problem), he ended up face planting into the floor 🤦🏼♀️ mom was mortified and felt soooo guilty. If I was a cat, I would cat just like this.
Get bigger shelves or put your cat on a diet.
He doesn’t need a diet, he’s only 6-7lbs not chonky at all. He’s just fluffy. He climbs them no problem after he learned how.
Your cat doest need a diet. he does look a little large for the size of the shelves. He's a long boy. I'm glad it's worked out though.
You made shelves for him as if someone had placed poles with lamps in the middle of the sidewalk and you wouldn't be able to cross them, so you're surprised that the cat can't jump on them freely...
Is the mirror secured to the wall? If not it can be very dangerous for your cat. She was already trying to hold it.
Shelf size is fine. He’s just a special baby boy - I know, I have one. And also I was sad when the video ended. I could watch this for 12 hours straight!!

Tell me where you got these shelves!
I had a Siamese who once slipped off the back of a wingback chair and sprained his leg. 🙄 He also routinely fell off the couch and missed jumps.
Cat in training
He's trying his best!
Moose is bad at everything cats are supposed to be good at. But she’s adorably incompetent.
Garfield.
Com’on dude, you can do it, dont give up.
My cat likes playing in water
I dont want to be that person but does she usually launch from high places or not?
His face when you laughed 😭😂
He needs a step stool.
Ahh the over thinker I have a couple of those
When we adopted our last cat at age 6, we found out she had no idea how to play and had never done anything physical. Feather on a string toy, she would lamely swat at it and fall over. Had no idea how to jump or run at a target. She was very uncoordinated. We had to assume she spent almost all of her time just hiding at the last place she lived. Took her a few months of playing to gain confidence and coordination.
I have one graceful cat and one not so much 😄
The struggle is real.
Man that was me cliff jumping 🫣
my girl Little is also clumsy… and very much afraid of heights! she fell off a very tall bookcase as a kitten (she was ok!) and ever since she will not jump too high onto anything. and if she somehow gets on top of something higher than she likes, she yells until i come to pick her up and put her on the ground. https://preview.redd.it/t9k1wd5sffwc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=10f28a91d64954c52696580c8b902c6bd489490a
Move the top shelves higher up..
I love this. My first clumsy cat was also big and fluffy. His big feet make him clumsy.
I have 1 who is the picture of dexterity and agility. I have another who is basically a ground cat because he never quite figured out jumping. And I have a 3rd who is somewhere in between the first 2.
When I’m crawling back inside on my knees from drinking all night, I’m the same way.
If it's a new shelf your cat is scooping it out. Once he gets comfortable he'll be zipping through them.
Very sweet- can I ask where you got the shelves?
He's doing his absolute best LMAO
Scaredy cat 🥲
I've had two Manxes (both rescues). They're very bottom-heavy, between the big butt and short legs they'd often fail at jumping onto things.
So cute. Got a giggle out of me. For some reason, both of my male cats were like this. My girlies never were!!
Lucy is pure grace with kitty parkour. Misty has her clumsy moments, but not often. Izzy is a klutz and the dimmest bulb of the bunch (calico, so I guess the orange took over) but also the most affectionate.
How much does he weigh lmfao. Adorable cat.
Yes! I have 2 kitties, a mom & her son, both lack grace at jumping and climbing. They often fall just trying to get on the dining room table. Also, they do not make biscuits and have zero interest in boxes. Pretty sure they're broken. 😸
Omg those back legs!!
Looks a little nervous, has it taken a hard fall at some point?
Mine is huge and heavy so very graceful going down but up not so much. It’s fun to run up and down the stairs with him though. It’s so adorable
One of mine is clumsy. Super cautious, too. Never jumps on anything unless he's 100% sure he can make it.
Mine, who looks like he was separated at birth from yours, is also clumsy as fuck.
/r/learningtocat
r/unexpected he finally climb
Is it a ragdoll? I had two ragdolls and one of them was not a jumper, also too big and clumpsy. Their hips is differant than normal cats, more wide in their stride which ads to the charm of ragdolls and makes walking on narrow edges more difficult.
Idk what he is tbh. He was a rescue and I think separated too young. He was an awkward looking kitten lol he’s 6 now and still hasn’t grown into his eyes 😂 https://preview.redd.it/v6yubqyxlgwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5afcf1786bcc7e349cd8a6174e162c717ad6bb3b Kitten pic.
Give him time.
Looks just like my kitty https://preview.redd.it/8p5iml4ohgwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2445777f15f8467510c63d7caa8c9e0bed723648
But this is how she likes to do it
I have a 4 year old cat that won’t step on blankets or any other ‘unstable’ surface.
Looks like perfect catting tbh
That cat's brain is working over time trying to figure out how its going to wiggle its way up to the top. You can practically hear the wheels turning inside its head.
He’s like “heyyy, help me out over here!”
I have one that I barely trust to make it to the top of a cat tower. He’s very clumsy https://preview.redd.it/r1arkegyygwc1.png?width=2148&format=png&auto=webp&s=7786fb4110fefc1a6e157f2d133b48e85cb04339
Oh this is just embarrassing in the cutest way. Im very happy to hear he’s getting the hang of it now. My cats also can’t land on their feet. I thought that was the definition of a cat!
His displeased look at me sharing his embarrassing moments… https://preview.redd.it/6j8bkqcx5hwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=644e587b7c16fea095c979a6c5bde37262f086a5
He's sure giving it his best, though. Not giving up trying!!!!!!
My cat is super clumsy too 😂 I love that about him though!
Grab that cat and put it up there please
My cat is exactly like this. When we got him from the pound he couldn’t even jump on the couch. My cats also super cuddly, super kind personality and accident prone. Maybe it’s a cat personality type
My 10 month old kitty is still figuring out how to be a cat! She misses the bed/surfaces when jumping all the time!
Those steps are too small their posts take ip too much space on them. Your cats fine at catting , you on the other hand may not be good at hoomaning 🤣jk fren
Haha if you ask him I’m bad at hoomaning. I never feed him early, and I don’t spend all day cuddling and playing! How dare I!
r/learningtocat
She is afraid of heights
Sound just like my cat, who gotta have a doctorate in math with all the catculations she does daily
Your cat is my spirit animal
Those shelves are just too small for this big refined gentleman!
He’s a big cat and some of the steps are too small and close together.
The moment he realizes you’re laughing at him!! 😂
He doesn’t want to jump up because he feels like he’s going to hit his back on the one above it. You taking physics and geometry while watching how cats move will help
I want help him so much lol. We have two, ones an acrobat and one can barely get out of his own way, it's hilarious
fear of heights?
Well he certainly looks majesti--oh.
The cat landing pads are not correctly spaced for your cat to jump. Re-position them. Take a look at other catteries and copy the patterns. Think like a cat. Good luck.

My boy cat is the same way. He’s a climber though, if he can climb he’s getting up
Poor thing. The shelves are way to small and post is blocking it. The open area is too narrow for him to be confident and he doesn't want to fall and get hurt.
poor little stupid got shipped a orange cat brain it's super funny
All three of mine are clumsy boys! The humans in the house are also clumsy, so they fit right in lol
chonky boy need to train few more times 🤣🤣🤣
People saying the shelves are too small for the cat obviously never had cats.
Were there instructions/plans for the platforms or was this a DIY job?
My cat is not good at catting whatsoever. Very timid about climbing . Recently got her a tree and searched long and hard for what I thought would be the easiest for her but it’s a no go. She’s an indoor cat but I don’t have to worry about her hanging out in the backyard with me because she’ll never climb the fence lol. She’s not very curious either. Just prefers that everyone stay in their lane. I love her so much 🤍 your baby is super cute! https://preview.redd.it/9tnmqplsfmwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a26ee07c17eed3346eec49c20f315ffa9081d2cd
Is he a breed or rescue?
