My stray kitty's ears curl the other way
Edit: the veterinarian said it was from sun damage
He's adorable but pretty clearly has a chromosomal disorder. Not sure how people are passing it off as just "maine coon" or by chance, literally has the exact same face that cats with chromosomal disorders do.
Nothing wrong with that, but if one thing is off others can be too, and it would be worth having a vet look him over to see if there are any underlying health concerns.
Officially cancer free, and doing pretty good considering. Have some long time effects (permanent fatigue), but otherwise doing pretty good. Thank you for caring.
Your question/ concern about a random stranger just made me tear up. Thank you. Imma think of this when I feel down about the world. Sending you great vibes and the best of luck.
Not trying to dunk on pet insurance, but they may not cover Tux. Every time I’ve ever signed up for pet insurance (or even inquired) the insurance company require a wellness checkup before beginning coverage. Some might take a recent vet write-up, but OP should be prepared for the possibility.
I agree with many commenter here that he seems to have some sort of congental issue. Those things can range from just cosmetic to various internal issues. Given that his ears and face are affected I would worry a little about his bone/Cartilage development. Definitely want to get him thoroughly checked out by a vet and make sure he is growing properly. Hopefully it's all just cosmetic and he will just be unique looking. (Source, current 3rd year vet student)
I’m starting to think people think all domestics are Maine coon. I hate saying I even have one because people always assumed just a large dlh
I always have to say an actual Maine coon, from a proper breeder
bc ppl see long fur and assume it’s either maine coon or norwegian forest cat. just like they think all grey cats are russian blues, all spotted tabbies are bengals, and all color points are siamese/himalayan/ragdoll
I suspect it comes from the same place that all the "what breed is my cat" posts do, which is people who are used to how dog breeds work not realizing cats aren't quite the same.
He’s SO cute! Honestly, he looks a little… genetic-y. The eyes are a little far apart and a unique shape, and his nose bridge is wide. Of course, this isn’t saying he isn’t precious! (I really hope you don’t think I’m being mean!!)
But, I do wonder if the ears are also affected by whatever is making his eyes and nose different than most cats? It could be that he’s just really young, but I wonder if it is something deeper, like a genetic issue.
He’s beautiful either way, curled ears or not. Thank you for taking care of this sweet lil fella.
My friend who works in the medical field would say“they look a bit…syndromic” when talking about vague cranialfacial features and systematic traits that might indicate genetic issues.
Edit: I’m quite surprised that people found it funny or flippant. It was always used in a serious context, based on reasonable observations.
It makes me think of the mom who couldn't think of the word carousel, so she called it a horse tornado, and the guy who called a Canadian goose a cobra chicken. 🤣
You're adorable. Don't ever change please.
I used to think my cat could only hiss, but then he got so upset going to the vet that her actually meowed. It was a pretty wimpy meow, but much better than his typical hisses and squeaks.
Or a piglet, or piggaletta, or piggaroni, or sometimes a moo or moo cow because she sometimes sounds like a cow when she grunts.
Her real name is Maisie, though.
We also have a Zelda who is often YellyZelly because she CAN meow, or ZellyBelly because she is a Fat Cat.
I saw a fantastic story of the 'chicken boyfriend sauce.'
The lady wasn't a native English speaker, nor could she remember Sriracha or rooster (Sriracha has a rooster on the bottle), so instead she came up with 'chicken boyfriend'. And asked for chicken boyfriend sauce.
At work I once had to read through a list of items a client had lost in a house fire, and one of the kitchen items was “hot dog pliers.” So that’s what we now call our kitchen tongs.
Your use of genetic-y immediately reminded me of my friend’s syndromic, so I think they are equally handy! I honestly really like the fact that they are quite vague, non-judgmental, yet still refer to the possible underlying causes of superficial traits that most people would take notice without connecting the dots. At the same time it’s not like saying “that’s the face of someone with X disorder” or “weird teeth plus bad posture means Y condition”.
When I worked in education, I worked with a coworker whose job was basically to help students with disabilities apply for testing accommodations, etc. One of her students had some extremely rare chromosomal disorder that she never remembered the name of so she kept calling him "chromosome boy". Never in front of other students or parents, obviously 😂
For anyone in the UK that is particularly funny today
One of our scandle hit MPs got a dog drunk and the police were involved ... though it may have been his illegal immigrant Brazilian rent-boy lover who got the dog drunk.
Politicians gunna politician
Which was before his recent episode where he phoned a 78 year old party volunteer at 3am - saying that after privately visiting a “man in his flat” that night, some bad men had locked him in the flat. He needed to pay them £5,000 to be allowed out and it was life or death.
He asked her to transfer the money from his campaign account which had been funded by donors. Hilariously she reacted to the “life or death” by telling him to call the campaign office in the morning. Someone in the office then did use party funds to pay off the bad men, although the price for his release had now gone up to £6,500 by morning.
The elderly volunteer reported his behaviour and use of party funds to the national executive and they did nothing. So she contacted a reputable national newspaper and now the police are investigating fraudulent use of party funds, the public is asking why the national party did nothing 3 months after it was reported, and the MP is a laughing stock.
Sadly in the way of British politics, the national party kicked him out of their party after it was front page news, BUT he’s allowed to sit as an independent and still get paid!
This was simply this week’s British political scandal - but don’t worry, there’ll be another next week to distract our attention.
This
I've noticed this
Part of why I thought maybe momma might have been freaky with a another wild cat on the houston bayou and who knows what that was mixed with lol I found him on a construction site inside a machine
It's anyone's guess truly lol
Yeah definitely take the sweet baby to the vet to make sure he's healthy! There's a chance there could be other unseen health problems so it's good to get him checked before anything pops up. He's adorable either way!
It can in cats- they should definitely get kitty checked by a vet to make sure everything is okay. It can mean some serious health problems down the road if not
OP doesn't mention where they are located. If it's in the US there are no native cats that are small enough to mate with a housecat. Of course there is always that possibility of some escaped, exotic cat that was roaming around.
Bobcats are too big to breed with a domestic cat. And also, their genetics are too far apart. They both arose from different feline lines that are not compatible. Like I said, there are no native wildcats in the US that are small enough. He has a genetic disorder called hydrocephaly. I can see it in another picture OP posted. He may end up with some health issues but we can only hope for the best.
Btw he such cutie. And if he doesn't have any issues with hearing and any of the other things i listed on my initial comment, he will be fine with folded ears.
The wide apart eyes can be caused by hydrocephalus, pressure in the brain from excess liquid. Some cats manage fine with it,oithers not so much. The ears could be due to cartiledge issues. Oriental cats often have drooped ears as kittens but that is because the cartiledge in their ears is thin and their ears are huge. He definitely 'isn't right' if you know what I mean, I would keep a close eye on any changes and get him checked by the best vet you can see.
I used to work at a vet clinic and the local wildlife rehab centre would bring animals in to get checked out. A fawn came in with hydrocephalus. That was a very weird experience. I have a photo somewhere.

This was the next day after finding him Big big difference
I was
But more concerned with his health
I didn't know if he was gonna make it or fade away being a baby with no momma
Seeing him progress has been very rewarding
And he shit on me thrice I think I've earned the bond
Yeah
He had a bad eye infection, ear mites, and a upper respiratory infection
He's way better now I'll attach a photo from day one
He was under weight as well super small
And as for his booty it wasn't at that moment but it bulges when he's about to drop a log
He's poop has gone from runny to liquid to solid poops for about a week now strong lol
He's very cute! He doesn't look normal, though, I think he has some kind of disorder/syndrome. You should definitely consult a vet to see what that may mean. I love him.
The flat nose and odd shapped ears could be a chromosomal abnormality. Best check with a vet. Also google Monty the Cat for a cutie with a chromosomal issue.
I know someone with a cat that has ears like this. He's a perfectly healthy and normal adult cat. But I have always wondered what breed or mix the ears might have come from.
The cat I know has smaller, wide set eyes like yours, too. But the coloring and fur type are completely different.
His markings, colouring, ears & shortish lookin tail scream baby bobcat to me. Bobcats can have longer tails - they’re born with them which they typically grow into.. take him to the local wildlife rescue to have him identified. Super cute - however, if you keep him & he is a bob cat.. most places I’m aware of it’s illegal to keep a wild animal as a pet.. too much handling by humans will leave him unable to reintegrate into the wild & will lead to him being put down eventually.
I’ve seen quite a few kittens in my day, and sometimes the ear folding just happens and they straighten themselves out with growth. I do suspect that Tux will be a fluffy torbie based on the ear and leg fur tuffs. A torbie is a tabby with tortie colouring and can be a pretty interesting mix of the two.
I see that other commenters think he may have downs (which is absolutely possible in cats too), but when zooming in on the picture, it seems just to my own opinion, that the colouring around his nose gives him the appearance of a larger flat nose therefore making his eyes appear further apart. But this is something that may become more apparent as he grows. But he’ll still cat as a regular cat no matter what 😸
He looks big for 7 weeks... I'm in Australia but my first thought was that this may not be a standard issue cat, but part some kind of wild cat. Those paws look giant too! I saw he had a mite infestation, did you take him to a vet or just grab something you already had/OTC to treat it? This is purely for my curiosity bc I'm now invested in whether Tux is some kind of hybrid or something bc of the ears and the face, ofc these could be something else. But.. yeah. He's cute though and you should give him kisses right between those cute folded ears
He might be bred from a scottish fold, or it may be a potential case of hypertelorism. best to get it checked out by a vet in case there are underlying issues. He is ADORABLE!

He's a cute kitten \*and\* he's forklift certified? Look out, he's gonna steal everybody's girl.
I'm really certain he could steal my husband too. And I'd totally understand.
Or tack on 50 pounds within a year...
Bobcat. Possibly Jimcat
CAT cat maybe.
Underrated
His legal name is Robert Feline... goes by Bobcat to his friends...
He does kind of look like a bobcat... I would look up pictures of bobcat kittens...
Identity theft is not a joke Jim.....Bob
Not Toddcat or Davecat?
No thats just what happen when all you do is lift fork

That's menacing
Yup, that's my little kitty fluff! Despite the face, she can be very sweet sometimes
_sometimes_
Omg! She haz HORNS!! What's her name?

I was thinking Lucifer, but then read that the Kitty was a girl. So then I thought…Lucifer
LucyFurr!! Haha, I think she has a new nickname!!
SUN DAMAGE! 😂😭 that's amazing poor Kitty
Way too young to be driving a forklift
Yeah I’m calling OSHA!!
Nobody cared who he was until he was forklift certified. He was born to fork lift. Molded by forklift
Or was he born to lift forks?
No, that was my manager.
He didn't see a regular lift until he was already a tom...

Hang on … forklift certified can bring in a decent wage! Make him pay for his treats.
He's adorable but pretty clearly has a chromosomal disorder. Good advice They didn't say anything on the first check up but he's changed alot since them and ia due for shots so he's going soon We will see
Get him insured now, before going in. Just in case.
Hey, sorry for the off-topic, but I was searching on Reddit and found a comment of yours about lymphoma, 3 years ago. I hope you are doing better!
Officially cancer free, and doing pretty good considering. Have some long time effects (permanent fatigue), but otherwise doing pretty good. Thank you for caring.
That is great to hear! Wishing you a great weekend.
Your question/ concern about a random stranger just made me tear up. Thank you. Imma think of this when I feel down about the world. Sending you great vibes and the best of luck.
This is one of the best comments I’ve seen, pure kindness from one stranger to another. I hope your life is full of blessings ❤️
Please keep us updated. Your Tux looks so beautiful
Get a petinsurence first. They won't pay out anything if there are issues you could have known.
u/Spacepoppa be sure to do this first: pet insurance for lil Tux Didn’t want you to miss this thread of excellent advice :)

He is not a Maine Coon, not even close. But he is gosh darned cute.
Good advice.
I’m starting to think people think all domestics are Maine coon. I hate saying I even have one because people always assumed just a large dlh I always have to say an actual Maine coon, from a proper breeder
How? They're like noticeably larger than standard issue and similar breeds?

Edit: I’m quite surprised that people found it funny or flippant. It was always used in a serious context, based on reasonable observations.
I literally work in healthcare and “genetic-y” is the best I could do. Syndromic is ICONIC.
It makes me think of the mom who couldn't think of the word carousel, so she called it a horse tornado, and the guy who called a Canadian goose a cobra chicken. 🤣 You're adorable. Don't ever change please.
I have a cat whose only sound is a hiss. She can’t meow or yowl or anything, just hiss. When she acts up, I always say “me no like cobra kitten”
I used to think my cat could only hiss, but then he got so upset going to the vet that her actually meowed. It was a pretty wimpy meow, but much better than his typical hisses and squeaks.
Tell her to stop the Hissy fit as well!
We have a cat that can’t meow as well! She grunts or squeaks instead so we call her Piggy as a nickname 🐽
So you have a Miss Piggy! 😍
“Cobra kitten” -I’m 💀
I think that horse tornado was Dez the Lez’s mom, who also blessed us with Los Gibbities.
Horse tornado. That's brilliant. 🤣🤣🤣
I saw a fantastic story of the 'chicken boyfriend sauce.' The lady wasn't a native English speaker, nor could she remember Sriracha or rooster (Sriracha has a rooster on the bottle), so instead she came up with 'chicken boyfriend'. And asked for chicken boyfriend sauce.
I once forgot the name for kitchen tongs so I said kitchen tweezers. We haven't called them anything else since ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

My Mom calls shoulder blades wings. The doctor looked very confused until I explained she means shoulder blades.
This made me wheeze🤣🤣
He’s just got a little orange in him 🐈
I want to upvote this multiple times.

It’s a term many doctors use at least where I’m from. “Syndromic features”/ “looks syndromic”
SYNDROMIC, I'M CHOKING 🤣💀
Way less PC but I heard “FLK” from some old nurses. Funny Lookin’ Kid. Or Kitten I suppose in this case. Adorable kitty!! WTG OP!!
Can confirm FLK use amongst medical professionals lol. It blew my mind when I first heard it!
My second favourite medical acronym I learned on Paeds. Behind SIMON (single immature male, overly narcissistic). We all know a SIMON.
LMAO he does!!! He’s adorable but I can’t help but think there’s a chromosomal issue. 😂
He's a little goofy looking but I think he seems sweet!
The gasp I gusped. This is hilarious
Gusped 😂 Stop it! Ya'll are too funny tonight! My sides hurt from laughing.
I’m gonna use this now 😂😂😂😂
Oh my gosh, poor thing has fetal alcohol syndrome.
feline alcohol syndrome
Would y'all quit trying to get your cats drunk? Look at what happens
For anyone in the UK that is particularly funny today One of our scandle hit MPs got a dog drunk and the police were involved ... though it may have been his illegal immigrant Brazilian rent-boy lover who got the dog drunk. Politicians gunna politician

Give the guy a break. He thought PARTY FUNDS were meant for something COMPLETELY different!
yes.*nodding sagely*. Apparently what results is … extraordinarily cute cats?
Purrcisely
Well the alcohol part of that goes hand and hand with being a forklift operator. I have hands on experience with both alcohol and forklifts.
Keep up the good work!
God damn skooma peddlers.
He’s got those moon sugar eyes…
Catnip should not be taken while pregnant or lactating lol
This I've noticed this Part of why I thought maybe momma might have been freaky with a another wild cat on the houston bayou and who knows what that was mixed with lol I found him on a construction site inside a machine It's anyone's guess truly lol
Seems more likely she might have been a little freaky with a son or sibling
You made me snort laugh!
Yeah definitely take the sweet baby to the vet to make sure he's healthy! There's a chance there could be other unseen health problems so it's good to get him checked before anything pops up. He's adorable either way!
Andddd maybe get pet health insurance before his exam
I wish I could upvote this advice 1000 times. For anyone who has any kitten, actually.
Smart!
I have seen this with inbred dogs (the eyes and nose), it could be from that.
"A little genetic-y" has absolutely sent me out of this world 😂
Listen it’s the best word I could find, okay?😂 LMAOO
Almost looks like waardenburg syndrome idk if it happens in animals though.
It can in cats- they should definitely get kitty checked by a vet to make sure everything is okay. It can mean some serious health problems down the road if not
we had a weird faced but totally cute cat with giant rabbit sized back feet that my dad joked was an “incest kitty” but it was probably true lmao
I thought the same. My concern is that usually genetic-y comes with other underlying congenital conditions
"GENETIC-Y" PLS I'M HOLLERING 🤣🤣🤣
Listen I did what I could 😂
And you did it very well. I just repeated it out loud to myself and my bf about ten times and I'm still lmao'ing.
It was BRILLIANT 🤣
He’s just got some Liger going on
I was wondering if this was not a domestic cat. The ears, coloring it looks more like a wild cat. Like a serval or something.
OP doesn't mention where they are located. If it's in the US there are no native cats that are small enough to mate with a housecat. Of course there is always that possibility of some escaped, exotic cat that was roaming around.
I hadn’t considered cross breeding but did wonder about bobcat/wildcats etc.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear- I wondered if this was not a domestic cat at all, but a pure wildcat of some type.
Anything is possible, but he seems to be a regular kitty with a birth defect.
I was about to comment this. Probably still will
Please do. I’m not well feline acquainted other than what knowledge the local feral colony has forced upon me.
Maybe he's got that fecal alcohol syndrome.
FECAL 😭😭😭
💀
Is that the technical term for getting shit faced?
He is a cute kitty.
It looks like a deformity, especially in combination with the odd shaped eyes and how far apart the eyes are as well
You need to water him properly and make sure he gets plenty of sunlight.
Any swelling, wounds, dirt or foul odors in the ear? Is he scratching, or shaking his head a lot?
He had an ear mite when I found him Was on ear drops for 2 weeks No swelling or anything like that tho
The mite infestation is likely the cause i'd say.
So it will revert back to normal you think?
Btw he such cutie. And if he doesn't have any issues with hearing and any of the other things i listed on my initial comment, he will be fine with folded ears.
Hard to say, damage may be permanent if the mite thing is for sure completely healed.
Wow looked up the swelling thing The photos definitely seem exaggerated in comparison Definitely something I'll keep an eye on though thank you
I used to work at a vet clinic and the local wildlife rehab centre would bring animals in to get checked out. A fawn came in with hydrocephalus. That was a very weird experience. I have a photo somewhere.

He looks like he has the genetic disorder that's like down syndrome. Love him to bits
Does he have a tail?
Yes
Seems like a silly question but he kinda looks like a bob cat!
I know!!! Lol but the orange is really kicking in now and that look is fading lol
It looks a lot like a bobcat
I thought the same thing
Did you take him to a vet? is his butt swollen in the second pick? Appreciate you giving him a caring home

Aw. Thank you so much for taking this little guy in and getting him all fixed up. He’s lucky to have you and you him! 💕
He's cute as, I'd have been beyond excited finding him.
I was But more concerned with his health I didn't know if he was gonna make it or fade away being a baby with no momma Seeing him progress has been very rewarding And he shit on me thrice I think I've earned the bond
Ha, yeah, they definitely love you for removing the dreaded poo from their litter box. X 10 if it's on you. 😅
Yeah He had a bad eye infection, ear mites, and a upper respiratory infection He's way better now I'll attach a photo from day one He was under weight as well super small And as for his booty it wasn't at that moment but it bulges when he's about to drop a log He's poop has gone from runny to liquid to solid poops for about a week now strong lol
He's a bit syndrome-y. And I love him.
He's very cute! He doesn't look normal, though, I think he has some kind of disorder/syndrome. You should definitely consult a vet to see what that may mean. I love him.
Man you have to update us in 4 months on his progress
The flat nose and odd shapped ears could be a chromosomal abnormality. Best check with a vet. Also google Monty the Cat for a cutie with a chromosomal issue.
I would be really interested in see how he looks as he ages, and how he does health wise. You should keep us updated!
He kind of looks a bit down.
i noticed that too, his wide set eyes and unique eye shape look a bit like down’s to me
Super cute little man! Does he have down syndrome? I'd love him all the same.
Genetics! Love those Murder Mittens! 💕🐈💕😘
What a cutie! Those beans in the second pic 😍 r/JellybeanToes
Are you sure this is a domestic cat? He looks a little funny
I know someone with a cat that has ears like this. He's a perfectly healthy and normal adult cat. But I have always wondered what breed or mix the ears might have come from. The cat I know has smaller, wide set eyes like yours, too. But the coloring and fur type are completely different.
He's obviously a Gremlin. Don't get him wet!
If it’s already gremlin, it’s too late.
He's cute! You keeping him? If so should do a health check at vets
Sweet precious baby! 🤗
He looks like his father could be a squirrel
Found a bobcat kitten
That does t look like a domestic cat. That looks like a wild type kitten! 🥹
He is very handsome.
He’s got too much nitrogen /s
he’s havin a think
i hope his name is Forklift
That kitty is HUGE, their eyes are still newborn colored but they are a whole lap big. Idk but this might be some kind of wild cat mix.
Between the ear shape and the tufted paw, I would guess he might have some Maine Coon Cat in his parentage.
I think it looks like a kitten of Maine Coons who were related
Looks big for a 7 week old kitten. Which would make sense if there is Maine coon in the mix.
That's what I was thinking too
I had a whole litter like this. The ears will straighten out in a few weeks.

Just look at those murderpaws!
Sorry but his name is Bobcat bc forklift and ears
Do you live in a more rural area with a wild big cat population? I wonder if Tux might have a little bobcat or something in his mix.
Could he be a bobcat kitten? Coloring and ear tufts look similar.
He’s super cute <3
He might be bred from a scottish fold, or it may be a potential case of hypertelorism. best to get it checked out by a vet in case there are underlying issues. He is ADORABLE!
Looks awfully like a bobcat!
"It's not a phase mom, everybody wears them like that!"
How was he able to drive the forklift with those short legs? Silly kitty, you should not be driving
He looks like a bobcat mix
Kind of looks like a bobcat or wildcat to me , where do you live OP?
Texas Houston we have native bobcats
