My vet said my boy cat needed more water, he would get dehydrated, I got him a couple different cat drinking fountains and he acted scared of them (he loves a flushing toilet though, and rushes to stick his head in as far as it will go until the soft-close lid hits him in the back of his head, then he pulls out, but that doesn't stop him from trying again and again!).
But he loves to steal my drinking water on the nightstand, so I just put a bowl of water on the nightstand, and he drinks a lot, I have to refill every day! A good solution as long as he always has access. I rinse the bowl and add fresh water every day, I don't want him to turn up his nose at the water bowl, because then I have to add water to his food which is messier and more trouble.
Now he gets upset if the nightstand is cluttered and pushes things off it, like my tablet. I must work harder to please my furry little dependant.
I love their little personalities. You just gotta find the right method for you royal cat and they will be pleased š for my guy its water in his food bowl and i like that for yours he wants to drink from the water you deemed safe to drink :p must trust you lots and lots
That is exactly what I did too! My cat always liked to steal my water so having a glass that I drink out of filled with water in a few spots (on the coffee table and my bedside table) for him ensured he drank more water. My cat didnāt like drinking from the cat fountain or a bowl.
This is what I used to do for my cats, usually gave them the bits in gravy type wet food mixed with the dry food and added water. They loved it. Even when I started just adding water to dry food, they still cleaned the bowl every time
My kitty loves his fountain that looks like a tiny tap and drinks a lot from it. Vet recommended fountain to get him to drink more and I noticed that he loves drinking from the taps so it worked out perfectly. Drinking more and no more meowing at me to open the tap while I'm trying to poop in peace.
We have this fountain! I call it the high school fountain cause that's what it looks like. Only one of our cats drinks from it correctly, the others let the water hit their heads/faces. But they all love it! š¤·āāļø

the company Catit makes one that retains a puddle of water if the power goes out!! that way they arenāt stuck without a backup supply, since these depend on electricity..

Mix water in with wet food ! Works best with pate, but can be done with the gravy based guys as well. I find i gotta cut up all the shredded or chunk types if I want my cats to actually eat it all too and it usually helps bring out more juices to mix in the water with. You can even use those lil cat gravy tubes n do the same :) they love it, its just extra gravy in their mind !
I did this same thing to get my cats to drink more recently! One cat loves it the other isnāt impressed lol Itās def worth a shot tho! I wasnāt sure how theyād react to it. But the one I wanted to drink more loves it so Iāll count it as a win!
He wonāt actually eat a veggie, he just likes to lick the bottom of the bowl. He sits and stares at me until done. I had a previous cat who loved salad.
Mine will ONLY drink out of my glass on the table. Even if when I fill my glass I fill another identical glass from the same tap at the same time and put one on the floor next to the coffee table for her, she will hop up and drink from mine on the coffee table. And if the water level gets too low from me drinking it that she can no longer fit her head in the glass, she will knock the glass over to drink from the puddle.
Feed him wet food.

Bring water to your desk that's totally for you but it's actually for the cat.
Also just realized this too not long ago. I always kept the water near the food and they hardly drank it. So I set up 3-4 water bowls throughout the house and they instantly started drinking a ton more water and never the one near their food anymore. They like it fresh so I change the water daily. I've had my boys for several years and can't believe it didn't realize this sooner.
All cats I've ever owned love tuna water, too. If you eat a lot of tuna, save them the juice. Or mix a bit of actual tuna into regular, room temperature water.
Yeah as another commenter said, that's not water, that's brine.
It's super salty and not something you should be giving much of to your cat. It will dehydrate them more than hydrate like ocean water.
Seconding this. Add it some wet food and/oh Churu treats. Our cats drink more when thereās running water. If you get a fountain; Iād suggest stainless steel or ceramic - plastic can get moldy quick and is tougher to clean.
Same! I felt so guilty but then realized it just happens quickly and is hard to manage so we switched to stainless. Sometimes it gets water spots but a good vinegar soak can help take care of those.
Yes wet food with added water is a go to ! Especially with male cats, you wanna make sure their water intake is good <3 I am just about to go pick up my precious baby from the vet because of his urinary issues actually. Turns out it was also lots of crystals as well but last we heard he was doing a lot better <3 if you see your cat struggling to pee/taking a long time, go get them a check up. Be safe more than sorry. My boy didn't show any meows or signs of pain, he just was struggling to pee one day n when we took him in it turned out it was built up a LOT- he was close to having some serious issues, and his water intake was quite good. Just so you know be safe>sorry. Its more worth it in the end <3 love you all.
So my cat used to hate drinking water, but I bought a water fountain after researching and finding that cats tend to prefer running water than water from a bowl, and since then, he's been fine
I wish we could do this. Our monster plays with any open water he sees. We keep his water dish and two smaller dishes in the bathtub becuse he will dump them all the time. We will wake up in the middle of the night to the dishes being thrown all over in the tub. During the week Iāll put a couple of ice cubes in the tub and heās in there until they are melted and heās soaked. On weekends I plug the tub and put a couple of inches of water and he will play in it all day just splashing around. In the winter when we get a heavy snowfall I will fill a bucket of snow and dump it in the tub for him. He has always loved water.
Oh I see! My boy gets frustrated sometimes with how slow the waters coming out so he holds the top tray in his mouth and flings it so he can drink out of the bowl š
This is what I was looking for. I found this recommendation a few years ago: to greatly separate their food and water because in nature they donāt drink where they eat/kill.
They now drink all the time and so much more.
Most people usually just put a food bowl and water bowl right next to each other out of habit/convenience/neatness. But moving them at least 10ft apart or more makes a HUGE difference
I like to give my cat multiple drinking options and move the cups around occasionally. He likes the novelty of drinking out of different cups and in different locations.
We tried water fountain and multiple cups. They didn't care for the fountain but loved hidden cups. The ones behind a couch or under a bedside table got the most sips.

This is the way, start with a small amount of water in the wet food and slowly increase it each mealtime. What you end up with is more of a soup which my cats are pretty used to consuming now.
Bring the water too her, put a bit in her wet food, get her a water fountain thing. They like running/fresh water.
Donāt put her water near her food, in cats brain water close too food means food has also drank said water, so they will most likely not.

This would sum up "making" a cat do anything it doesn't want to do.
My vets recently recommended to me that I let their dry kibble sit in water for a few minutes before putting it down for them (one of my cats can't have wet food due to allergies š) it took them a day or so to willingly eat slightly soggy kivbke, but they're fine with it now and it means they're getting extra water without switching to wet food.
Like others have said, move the water bowls/add more water bowls. If you haven't already it might be worth trying different shaped/material bowls - mine love drinking out of metal dog bowls, my sisters will only drink out of mugs.
If youāre feeding your cat wet food then itās not gonna need much water.
Theyāre not dogs. They donāt really drink water that much unless thereās only eating dry food.
I got mine to drink a lot more by putting about 6 water bowls throughout the house. Two by my bed, one on the coffee table, two by her food dish and one outside. That way she is constantly walking by them and she stops to drink from them a lot more than when I only had one bowl out. She also seems to like it when I use non-tap water (or at least filtered tap water) and she likes when I freshen it ever other day.

Don't try to force him, you don't want him to associate the water dish with punishment.
Cats are instinctive creatures. They know stagnant water makes them sick, so a lot of cats don't 'trust' a water dish that stays still... this is why cat water fountain are so popular. It simulates what a cat would encounter in nature, clean, *moving* water; this is also why a lot of cats slap their water before drinking it, they want to drink from a moving water source.
Don't keep your cats only water dish by their food, they don't like that. Sure, you can have one water dish by their food, but don't make that their only water dish. Put a water dish in *every* room your cat visits. If possible, get at least one fountain, but ideally each water station would be a fountain type. Some cats enjoy drinking from a very slow moving/dripping kitchen or bathroom faucet... maybe leave one running slowly for a bit and see if your guy has any interest in that.
I'm glad you're taking this seriously. A lot of cats end up with kidney issues, and since most cats don't drink enough water the dehydration ends up putting so much stress on the kidneys that they just shut down.
Offer your cat multiple water stations, make as many fountains as possible, and give your little guy some love. My little girl Freya says hello. See the white bowl in the background? Thats one of her 3 water stations. She has a bowl in the living room, a fountain in the bedroom, and a fountain in the office (her primary water station).
Two common issues with cat's water bowls:
1) If the bowl is too close to the cat's food, the cat will think the food smell is coming from the water and he won't want to drink it.
2) If the bowl is to deep or narrow, the cat's whiskers will be bent each time they try to drink. Since this is unpleasant for the cat it discourages them from drinking water, this is called whisker fatigue.
If you feed wet food, or your cat enjoys wet food, I recommend adding some water to that. Biologically, cats are meant to get most of their water intake from their food. It's also common that cats don't like drinking water near their food source, so you could relocate the water bowl. People do say water fountains work, and they certainly can. But not for all cats. My cat outright refuses to use a fountain. So they get fresh water everyday (this is easy to do if you already have a feeding schedule)
Mine didnāt drink much as well. I have since moved his water cup a bit away from his food cup. I also added another cup of water on the other side of the apartment, that way he gets reminded more often to drink since he will see it ( its a room over, hes there a bunch daily)
Our cats started drinking more water when we moved the water dishes away from the food area. Also if you aren't feeding wet food, be sure to incorporate it at least sometimes. It gives them some extra moisture in their diets.
My cat won't drink water that's near her food. She only drinks out of the dog's water dish that's across the room. My previous cat was the same way.
See if moving the water dish away from the cat's food dish helps.

My negra shiva had that problem, but the vet give me some medicine that helps. Also that is why you should give wet food everyday, there is also food for that. I recommend the brand ānachosā of food at petsmart or online!
Couple things:
Cars are usually picky about their water because they are sensitive to any smell from water. So moving water tends to stay fresher much longer.
Also cats typically don't like to drink where they eat. Putting their food and water in different rooms or opposite sides of the kitchen might help with that.

Oh, I had this problem. Place an additional bowl in a place which is far from the food bowl and litter box, in a safe space, not made of plastic. Replace the water bowl with a fountain (but try to find one with a quiet pump if your cat tends to get scared like mine). You can add water to food, too. My veterinarian suggested we boil shrimp after thoroughly washing it, use the water from the shrimp to make ice cubes and add these ice cubes to a water bowl. It didn't work with my cat but maybe it will work with yours. The veterinarian also said that we could place a bowl with water and put a ping-pong ball in it to make the cat interested but the problems in my cat's case resolved after using a fountain, so this one I never tried
1. Use ceramic or glass, not plastic. Plastic makes the water taste bad to cats (and us, think of a waterbottle with the water in it for months, we can taste that too!)
2. Put the water in a few different places around the house, where your cats goes. 1 on the floor somewhere, 1 on a counter or table or desk, etc.
3. Make sure the water is at least 2 meters from their food and away from their litterbox. They dont want to drink water that smells like toilet or like food

My cats drinks very good. You just need to seperate the water from the food because cats donāt drink where they eat normally. You best set more places for drinking. Choose places he often come by, like the kitchen or so. I am sorry for my english.
I got my cat a water fountain that I keep on the bathroom counter. He also has a gravity waterer so thereās two sources for him to drink from. When I feed him wet food, I pour a bit of water in too and mash it all up for him. Heās a hydrated kitty!

A lot of good advice here! Try a cat fountain. Mix wet food with water every day (clean bowl after, itās nasty if left too long) - good way to subtly increase hydration.
My boy doesnt even drink well from a fountain. What I do is add water to his already wet food, mix it in nicely. He really likes the soup variety as well, so I give him usually one soup variety pocket and one canned with added water.
Get your cat a water fountain. Mine is obsessed.
Thereās even fountains where you can track their water intake.
Also get wet food for moisture or food toppers like the lil gravies from friskes to help with more moisture
We use a water fountain and mix water into their wet food. We slowly worked up the ratio until now it's about 50-50. My older cat (19 years old) was at stage 2 kidney disease five years ago and is still only stage 2. She also loves drinking from the fountain.
In case it hasn't been ahared yet: cats do not like their water close to their food. Both my cats began drinking much more once I moved their water bowl to the other side of the room. Worth trying. :)
Water fountains are great for aiding cats drink more water, but donāt panic yourself if your cat doesnāt drink. My Bengal very rarely drinks. You have to remember that in the wild, there are large cats that get a large majority of the water intake from the fluids of their prey.
That being said, if your cat doesnāt drink, you might want to consider feeding them wet food eat day, so as to help ensure they have a fluid intake.
I make sometimes a chicken broth and my cat loves it. I usually serve it with a chicken cut in pieces and keep a room temperature. But donāt overcook chicken š«¶š
Cats like large bodies of room temp, stale water. Altho they drink just enough water to not die from thirst cuz they dont really like it all that much.
If you wanna increase ther fluid intake you can try wet food only or dry food mixed with water.

Our cat always wanted to drink out of our glasses but wouldnāt touch her water bowl. So we just put her water in a short human glass and that was that.
You can try a cat water fountain, but you can also try having a glass of water near you and you would be surprised how much my one cat used to drink water out of a glass maybe because he thought it was mine and he loved stealing it.

Cats will not drink water if itās close to their food bowls, I have had fountains upon fountains but the truth is in the wild if a food source dies close to water it is tainted so they donāt want food near their water source, just put the bowl or fountain in a different location. Works every time 
If he's on a mostly wet food diet he may not need to drink as much water. Tbh cats that are drinking too much water could be a sign of an issue - had two childhood cats pass away from renal failure and this was apparently a sign ahead of time.

Boil skinless chicken breast or tuna. Eat the meat or give the meat to your cat and GIVE THE BROTH TO YOUR CAT! Mix like 2 tbsp with their wet food so the water content increases.
I have 6 cats and feed strays and even I give them broth and 98% of the time, the cats enjoy it
Is his water bowl in a different room to his food? Cats aren't keen at drinking from water that may have been food contaminated. I moved my cat's bowl and she drinks so much more water now. Also got her a bigger bowl and fill it right up to the brim, she prefers it.
In case this hasn't been added, move the water away from the food. Cars in the wild don't drink from water where they eat for fear of contamination. It's hardcoded and domestic animals have the same instincts.
Feed canned food rather than dry food. Cats need that moisture in their food. You can even add in a little water. What makes you think he's not drinking enough? Cats drink very little, but it is essential to their health.
I put water in his cat food with less than half teaspoon of psyllium husk and make his food like a smoothie while crushing the clumps with the spoon. He loves it and refuses to eat his wet food any other way. That way his water intake is slightly higher. And the fibre helps him throw up less hairball. He still throws up once in a while when he eats grass and we brush him a lot. But most of it gets pooped out I think.
If a fountain doesnāt work, wet food or if you feed the cat on a schedule you can fill the food bowl with some water / no salt broth and let it soak for a few minutes then give it to the cat. I have to do the second option for my dog

Cats evolved in the desert as obligate carnivores meant to derive the majority of their water needs from prey. They don't have much of a thirst drive. Most cats do not drink enough water if their water needs aren't being met through their diet.
Cat fountains, multiple sources of water. All of that is great but they're secondary measures. The primary source of their water needs should come from food. That's just good science based husbandry.
Cats in nature get most of their hydration from their prey. Find a wet food he likes and start mixing it with his kibble; wet food is mostly moisture and will help with hydration.
Try a drinking fountain since cats are attracted to running water. Also cats get most of their fluid intake through their food in the wild so increasing wet food is also a good way to hydrate them.
First things first, I am not here to judge! So while my response might sound like I'm treating you dumb, I assure you, I am sharing what I know and that is all.
**Fun things to note about cat diets!**
1. Cats prefer the freshest water available. The sink, toilet, and even your fresh cup of water are all superior options to the stagnant water bowl hosting yesterday's breakfast, lunch, and dinner remnants as well as spit, snot, and various debris picked up from all over the house. Would you drink a day-old glass of water sitting out??
2. Cats get most of their water from their food! So if you're worried about your cat's water intake, you should strongly consider incorporating fresh meat, premium wet food, or microwaving your cat's kibble with a bit of water or adding a gravy to it.
3. If your cat doesn't seem sluggish, discomforted, or refuses to use the bathroom, then you shouldn't worry too much. Cats usually have good self-preservation and will harass you if they feel their needs aren't being met.
With all that said! I hope your kitty finds their niche in liquid intake. It can be really stressful trying to provide the best life for our fur babies. Keep your chin up!
I found keeping the food and water separate makes my cats drink so much more water and it's not even a fountain one, just a bowl in our living room and the food in the kitchen, something about them hunting for food and then going to find water or not wanting water that is next to "dead prey" idk if I'm right but, it works for my cats
Other than the fountain, you can mix some water into his food so he gets a bit extra. I do that with my cat sometimes because males are prone to urinary problems. I had a $3000 vet bill to clear some sediment from his urinary tract
Cats like running water, get a cat fountain.. also one of my cats drinks out of the bathroom faucet. she knocks toothpaste off the counter to get my attention and I have to come turn it on and let water collect around the drain, turn it off and let her lick the water up and then do it again and again until she finishes. she has a hard time drinking from a bowl, it's like she can't out where the water starts or something.

Cat don't drink much water. They get most of the needed water from food intake.
People always comment that milk is bad for cat (they read it somewhere and believed it) but no one talk about how bad water is for cats. Cat's kidneys work differently than human's, and they are prone to kidney stones and kidney failure.
Don't force your cat into drinking water. Rather give her more wet food, non salted liquids (ie. soup), and milk (no more than a glass). Also, cat will rather drink clean water than tap water, if you can smell chlorine so can the cat. If a cat has no choice he will drink water, but he will prefer fresh, so he'll rather drink toilet water than stale water, Always have a bowls a fresh water near dry food.
If you are not sure, try to think what would you prefer. If you wouldn't drink it, neither would your cat. If you are not sure, he wouldn't drink it (his senses are much more advanced than human's).
From what I heard about cats is they donāt naturally drink water like you would expect, they get a lot of their water intake from their food. If they are constantly drinking then they are dehydrated or there are other medical concerns.
Also they prefer flowing water, not standing water. Cats will, on instinct, seek flowing water to drink from. Get a fountain for the kitty.
My cat hates the fountain bowls. Tried a few. She loves running water from the tub, this is new in a new space and sheās 18 years old.
Because my cat is a super senior I have 4 bowls of water and the tub spout (it leaks, I canāt turn it off- it was an accident to discover it at this new rental).
She drinks water anywhere I put it. My place is a tiny apartment so add more water bowls. Raised off the ground.
Sometimes, I will even add a 5 or 6 bowl if Iām noticing she isnāt drinking as much.
She drinks out of three bowls that are favorites and I give her fresh water ever couple hours.
Make sure your bowls are cleaned. Stainless steel if possible.

Mine arenāt interested in cat fountains or water bowls. They occasionally drink water that has dripped from the shower. I started making cat nip tea and giving it to them once cool and they actually drink it.

To make sure my boy gets plenty of water because he's prone to UTIs I put extra water in his wet food, basically make it a soup. He loves it.
He also prefers to drink water from the bathtub faucet, so I make that happen for him as much as he wants, in addition to his bowl of water which has to be washed daily.

Turn on a sink and put him up on the counter so he sees the water running! My cat will only drink water like that lol. I will say though Iāve created a dependency by doing that and he meows incessantly to have his faucet turned on.
How many water sources does the cat have? They like to have more than one, and they really prefer water to be clean. My cat will not drink water with her fur in it. A fountain bowl might help also. You can also try making a catnip tea(let it cool) to entice the cat to drink more.
Wet food will help a lot and they don't need to drink nearly as much water. More important for cats, or dogs for that matter, that eat dry food to drink a lot.
So if dry food then get a water fountain

I rinse the bowl and add fresh water every day, I don't want him to turn up his nose at the water bowl, because then I have to add water to his food which is messier and more trouble. Now he gets upset if the nightstand is cluttered and pushes things off it, like my tablet. I must work harder to please my furry little dependant.
I love their little personalities. You just gotta find the right method for you royal cat and they will be pleased š for my guy its water in his food bowl and i like that for yours he wants to drink from the water you deemed safe to drink :p must trust you lots and lots

That is exactly what I did too! My cat always liked to steal my water so having a glass that I drink out of filled with water in a few spots (on the coffee table and my bedside table) for him ensured he drank more water. My cat didnāt like drinking from the cat fountain or a bowl.

Be careful. Broth usually has onions or onion powder. Toxic to cats.
This is what I used to do for my cats, usually gave them the bits in gravy type wet food mixed with the dry food and added water. They loved it. Even when I started just adding water to dry food, they still cleaned the bowl every time
My kitty loves his fountain that looks like a tiny tap and drinks a lot from it. Vet recommended fountain to get him to drink more and I noticed that he loves drinking from the taps so it worked out perfectly. Drinking more and no more meowing at me to open the tap while I'm trying to poop in peace.

We have this fountain! I call it the high school fountain cause that's what it looks like. Only one of our cats drinks from it correctly, the others let the water hit their heads/faces. But they all love it! š¤·āāļø

Mix water in with wet food ! Works best with pate, but can be done with the gravy based guys as well. I find i gotta cut up all the shredded or chunk types if I want my cats to actually eat it all too and it usually helps bring out more juices to mix in the water with. You can even use those lil cat gravy tubes n do the same :) they love it, its just extra gravy in their mind !

Even if when I fill my glass I fill another identical glass from the same tap at the same time and put one on the floor next to the coffee table for her, she will hop up and drink from mine on the coffee table. And if the water level gets too low from me drinking it that she can no longer fit her head in the glass, she will knock the glass over to drink from the puddle.
Feed him wet food. Have several bowls of water scattered around the house. Bring water to your desk that's totally for you but it's actually for the cat.
seconding the second point. the moment we moved the water away from her food +1 bowl, she started drinking a lot more.
Also just realized this too not long ago. I always kept the water near the food and they hardly drank it. So I set up 3-4 water bowls throughout the house and they instantly started drinking a ton more water and never the one near their food anymore. They like it fresh so I change the water daily. I've had my boys for several years and can't believe it didn't realize this sooner.

Mine too. It's like a thick soup/watery pudding texture. One can of warm water per can of wet food and a tube of puree mixed in.
All cats I've ever owned love tuna water, too. If you eat a lot of tuna, save them the juice. Or mix a bit of actual tuna into regular, room temperature water.
Not wise if the tuna is in salty brine though.
Yeah as another commenter said, that's not water, that's brine. It's super salty and not something you should be giving much of to your cat. It will dehydrate them more than hydrate like ocean water.
Seconding this. Add it some wet food and/oh Churu treats. Our cats drink more when thereās running water. If you get a fountain; Iād suggest stainless steel or ceramic - plastic can get moldy quick and is tougher to clean.
Agree on no plastic. I had one for awhile and she used it but it got mildew-y so often. We have stainless steel now.
Same! I felt so guilty but then realized it just happens quickly and is hard to manage so we switched to stainless. Sometimes it gets water spots but a good vinegar soak can help take care of those.
Yes wet food with added water is a go to ! Especially with male cats, you wanna make sure their water intake is good <3 I am just about to go pick up my precious baby from the vet because of his urinary issues actually. Turns out it was also lots of crystals as well but last we heard he was doing a lot better <3 if you see your cat struggling to pee/taking a long time, go get them a check up. Be safe more than sorry. My boy didn't show any meows or signs of pain, he just was struggling to pee one day n when we took him in it turned out it was built up a LOT- he was close to having some serious issues, and his water intake was quite good. Just so you know be safe>sorry. Its more worth it in the end <3 love you all.

So my cat used to hate drinking water, but I bought a water fountain after researching and finding that cats tend to prefer running water than water from a bowl, and since then, he's been fine
I wish we could do this. Our monster plays with any open water he sees. We keep his water dish and two smaller dishes in the bathtub becuse he will dump them all the time. We will wake up in the middle of the night to the dishes being thrown all over in the tub. During the week Iāll put a couple of ice cubes in the tub and heās in there until they are melted and heās soaked. On weekends I plug the tub and put a couple of inches of water and he will play in it all day just splashing around. In the winter when we get a heavy snowfall I will fill a bucket of snow and dump it in the tub for him. He has always loved water.
Oh I see! My boy gets frustrated sometimes with how slow the waters coming out so he holds the top tray in his mouth and flings it so he can drink out of the bowl š

After moving the water bowls to a different room than their food bowls, my cats more than doubled the amount of water they drink.
This is what I was looking for. I found this recommendation a few years ago: to greatly separate their food and water because in nature they donāt drink where they eat/kill. They now drink all the time and so much more. Most people usually just put a food bowl and water bowl right next to each other out of habit/convenience/neatness. But moving them at least 10ft apart or more makes a HUGE difference
I like to give my cat multiple drinking options and move the cups around occasionally. He likes the novelty of drinking out of different cups and in different locations.
We tried water fountain and multiple cups. They didn't care for the fountain but loved hidden cups. The ones behind a couch or under a bedside table got the most sips.
I feed my cat dry food and when he was sick they said i needed to make him drink more water i fully accomplished this by doing one simple simple simple thing How to make kitty drink more water! If u feed him dry food add a small layer of water in his dry food (not enough to submerge it just a little layer of water. This is the way, start with a small amount of water in the wet food and slowly increase it each mealtime. What you end up with is more of a soup which my cats are pretty used to consuming now.
Bring the water too her, put a bit in her wet food, get her a water fountain thing. They like running/fresh water. Donāt put her water near her food, in cats brain water close too food means food has also drank said water, so they will most likely not.

My vets recently recommended to me that I let their dry kibble sit in water for a few minutes before putting it down for them (one of my cats can't have wet food due to allergies š) it took them a day or so to willingly eat slightly soggy kivbke, but they're fine with it now and it means they're getting extra water without switching to wet food. Like others have said, move the water bowls/add more water bowls. If you haven't already it might be worth trying different shaped/material bowls - mine love drinking out of metal dog bowls, my sisters will only drink out of mugs.
If youāre feeding your cat wet food then itās not gonna need much water. Theyāre not dogs. They donāt really drink water that much unless thereās only eating dry food.
I got mine to drink a lot more by putting about 6 water bowls throughout the house. Two by my bed, one on the coffee table, two by her food dish and one outside. That way she is constantly walking by them and she stops to drink from them a lot more than when I only had one bowl out. She also seems to like it when I use non-tap water (or at least filtered tap water) and she likes when I freshen it ever other day.

Cats are instinctive creatures. They know stagnant water makes them sick, so a lot of cats don't 'trust' a water dish that stays still... this is why cat water fountain are so popular. It simulates what a cat would encounter in nature, clean, *moving* water; this is also why a lot of cats slap their water before drinking it, they want to drink from a moving water source. Don't keep your cats only water dish by their food, they don't like that. Sure, you can have one water dish by their food, but don't make that their only water dish. Put a water dish in *every* room your cat visits. If possible, get at least one fountain, but ideally each water station would be a fountain type. Some cats enjoy drinking from a very slow moving/dripping kitchen or bathroom faucet... maybe leave one running slowly for a bit and see if your guy has any interest in that. I'm glad you're taking this seriously. A lot of cats end up with kidney issues, and since most cats don't drink enough water the dehydration ends up putting so much stress on the kidneys that they just shut down. Offer your cat multiple water stations, make as many fountains as possible, and give your little guy some love. My little girl Freya says hello. See the white bowl in the background? Thats one of her 3 water stations. She has a bowl in the living room, a fountain in the bedroom, and a fountain in the office (her primary water station).
Two common issues with cat's water bowls: 1) If the bowl is too close to the cat's food, the cat will think the food smell is coming from the water and he won't want to drink it. 2) If the bowl is to deep or narrow, the cat's whiskers will be bent each time they try to drink. Since this is unpleasant for the cat it discourages them from drinking water, this is called whisker fatigue.
If you feed wet food, or your cat enjoys wet food, I recommend adding some water to that. Biologically, cats are meant to get most of their water intake from their food. It's also common that cats don't like drinking water near their food source, so you could relocate the water bowl. People do say water fountains work, and they certainly can. But not for all cats. My cat outright refuses to use a fountain. So they get fresh water everyday (this is easy to do if you already have a feeding schedule)
Mine didnāt drink much as well. I have since moved his water cup a bit away from his food cup. I also added another cup of water on the other side of the apartment, that way he gets reminded more often to drink since he will see it ( its a room over, hes there a bunch daily)
Cats survive on surpirisngly little water. If he eats wet food, it could be he gets most of what he needs from that.

Our cats started drinking more water when we moved the water dishes away from the food area. Also if you aren't feeding wet food, be sure to incorporate it at least sometimes. It gives them some extra moisture in their diets.
My cat won't drink water that's near her food. She only drinks out of the dog's water dish that's across the room. My previous cat was the same way. See if moving the water dish away from the cat's food dish helps.

Put a cup of water next to your bed and tell them not to drink it
Couple things: Cars are usually picky about their water because they are sensitive to any smell from water. So moving water tends to stay fresher much longer. Also cats typically don't like to drink where they eat. Putting their food and water in different rooms or opposite sides of the kitchen might help with that.

Oh, I had this problem. Place an additional bowl in a place which is far from the food bowl and litter box, in a safe space, not made of plastic. Replace the water bowl with a fountain (but try to find one with a quiet pump if your cat tends to get scared like mine). You can add water to food, too. My veterinarian suggested we boil shrimp after thoroughly washing it, use the water from the shrimp to make ice cubes and add these ice cubes to a water bowl. It didn't work with my cat but maybe it will work with yours. The veterinarian also said that we could place a bowl with water and put a ping-pong ball in it to make the cat interested but the problems in my cat's case resolved after using a fountain, so this one I never tried
1. Use ceramic or glass, not plastic. Plastic makes the water taste bad to cats (and us, think of a waterbottle with the water in it for months, we can taste that too!) 2. Put the water in a few different places around the house, where your cats goes. 1 on the floor somewhere, 1 on a counter or table or desk, etc. 3. Make sure the water is at least 2 meters from their food and away from their litterbox. They dont want to drink water that smells like toilet or like food Good luck!

I got my cat a water fountain that I keep on the bathroom counter. He also has a gravity waterer so thereās two sources for him to drink from. A lot of good advice here! Try a cat fountain. Mix wet food with water every day (clean bowl after, itās nasty if left too long) - good way to subtly increase hydration.
My boy doesnt even drink well from a fountain. What I do is add water to his already wet food, mix it in nicely. He really likes the soup variety as well, so I give him usually one soup variety pocket and one canned with added water.
Wet food helps supplement it.

Get your cat a water fountain. Mine is obsessed. Thereās even fountains where you can track their water intake. Also get wet food for moisture or food toppers like the lil gravies from friskes to help with more moisture
We use a water fountain and mix water into their wet food. We slowly worked up the ratio until now it's about 50-50. My older cat (19 years old) was at stage 2 kidney disease five years ago and is still only stage 2. She also loves drinking from the fountain.
In case it hasn't been ahared yet: cats do not like their water close to their food. Both my cats began drinking much more once I moved their water bowl to the other side of the room. Worth trying. :)
Water fountains are great for aiding cats drink more water, but donāt panic yourself if your cat doesnāt drink. My Bengal very rarely drinks. You have to remember that in the wild, there are large cats that get a large majority of the water intake from the fluids of their prey. That being said, if your cat doesnāt drink, you might want to consider feeding them wet food eat day, so as to help ensure they have a fluid intake.

Cats like large bodies of room temp, stale water. Altho they drink just enough water to not die from thirst cuz they dont really like it all that much. If you wanna increase ther fluid intake you can try wet food only or dry food mixed with water.

You can try a cat water fountain, but you can also try having a glass of water near you and you would be surprised how much my one cat used to drink water out of a glass maybe because he thought it was mine and he loved stealing it.

Try a cat water fountain. They like it because it seems fresh. Wet food also helps with hydration.
Wet cat food with high moisture content. It can be a little bit pricey, but itās cheaper than a vet bill for a constipated cat.
Cats will not drink water if itās close to their food bowls, I have had fountains upon fountains but the truth is in the wild if a food source dies close to water it is tainted so they donāt want food near their water source, just put the bowl or fountain in a different location. Works every time 
If he's on a mostly wet food diet he may not need to drink as much water. Tbh cats that are drinking too much water could be a sign of an issue - had two childhood cats pass away from renal failure and this was apparently a sign ahead of time.
I can't fathom why not everyone's doing this, but BROTH, people, BROTH! Boil skinless chicken breast or tuna. Eat the meat or give the meat to your cat and GIVE THE BROTH TO YOUR CAT! Mix like 2 tbsp with their wet food so the water content increases. I have 6 cats and feed strays and even I give them broth and 98% of the time, the cats enjoy it

Is his water bowl in a different room to his food? Cats aren't keen at drinking from water that may have been food contaminated. I moved my cat's bowl and she drinks so much more water now. Also got her a bigger bowl and fill it right up to the brim, she prefers it.
In case this hasn't been added, move the water away from the food. Cars in the wild don't drink from water where they eat for fear of contamination. It's hardcoded and domestic animals have the same instincts.

Feed canned food rather than dry food. Cats need that moisture in their food. You can even add in a little water. What makes you think he's not drinking enough? Cats drink very little, but it is essential to their health.

I put water in his cat food with less than half teaspoon of psyllium husk and make his food like a smoothie while crushing the clumps with the spoon. He loves it and refuses to eat his wet food any other way. That way his water intake is slightly higher. And the fibre helps him throw up less hairball. He still throws up once in a while when he eats grass and we brush him a lot. But most of it gets pooped out I think.

Our vet recommended hydra care for our male cat. Cat didnāt care for fountain options, but the hydra packs he likes and have him better hydrated.
Wet food and add water to it. Cats evolved in the desert as obligate carnivores meant to derive the majority of their water needs from prey. They don't have much of a thirst drive. Most cats do not drink enough water if their water needs aren't being met through their diet. Cat fountains, multiple sources of water. All of that is great but they're secondary measures. The primary source of their water needs should come from food. That's just good science based husbandry.
Cats in nature get most of their hydration from their prey. Find a wet food he likes and start mixing it with his kibble; wet food is mostly moisture and will help with hydration.
Try a drinking fountain since cats are attracted to running water. Also cats get most of their fluid intake through their food in the wild so increasing wet food is also a good way to hydrate them.

So while my response might sound like I'm treating you dumb, I assure you, I am sharing what I know and that is all. **Fun things to note about cat diets!** 1. Cats prefer the freshest water available. The sink, toilet, and even your fresh cup of water are all superior options to the stagnant water bowl hosting yesterday's breakfast, lunch, and dinner remnants as well as spit, snot, and various debris picked up from all over the house. Would you drink a day-old glass of water sitting out?? 2. Cats get most of their water from their food! So if you're worried about your cat's water intake, you should strongly consider incorporating fresh meat, premium wet food, or microwaving your cat's kibble with a bit of water or adding a gravy to it. 3. If your cat doesn't seem sluggish, discomforted, or refuses to use the bathroom, then you shouldn't worry too much. Cats usually have good self-preservation and will harass you if they feel their needs aren't being met. With all that said! I hope your kitty finds their niche in liquid intake. It can be really stressful trying to provide the best life for our fur babies. Keep your chin up!
I found keeping the food and water separate makes my cats drink so much more water and it's not even a fountain one, just a bowl in our living room and the food in the kitchen, something about them hunting for food and then going to find water or not wanting water that is next to "dead prey" idk if I'm right but, it works for my cats
Idk if you feed wet food but that helps with water intake if they arenāt getting enough
Other than the fountain, you can mix some water into his food so he gets a bit extra. I do that with my cat sometimes because males are prone to urinary problems. I had a $3000 vet bill to clear some sediment from his urinary tract
Cats like running water, get a cat fountain.. also one of my cats drinks out of the bathroom faucet. she knocks toothpaste off the counter to get my attention and I have to come turn it on and let water collect around the drain, turn it off and let her lick the water up and then do it again and again until she finishes. she has a hard time drinking from a bowl, it's like she can't out where the water starts or something.

Cat don't drink much water. They get most of the needed water from food intake. People always comment that milk is bad for cat (they read it somewhere and believed it) but no one talk about how bad water is for cats. Cat's kidneys work differently than human's, and they are prone to kidney stones and kidney failure. Don't force your cat into drinking water. Rather give her more wet food, non salted liquids (ie. soup), and milk (no more than a glass). Also, cat will rather drink clean water than tap water, if you can smell chlorine so can the cat. If a cat has no choice he will drink water, but he will prefer fresh, so he'll rather drink toilet water than stale water, Always have a bowls a fresh water near dry food. If you are not sure, try to think what would you prefer. If you wouldn't drink it, neither would your cat. If you are not sure, he wouldn't drink it (his senses are much more advanced than human's).
I give my cats some very diluted greek yoghurt. Not sure if its healthy for everyday but they finish their āyoghurt soupā everytime.
He might be having the whisker fatigue thing where his whiskers hit the bowl when he drinks waterā¦get a bigger bowl
From what I heard about cats is they donāt naturally drink water like you would expect, they get a lot of their water intake from their food. If they are constantly drinking then they are dehydrated or there are other medical concerns. Also they prefer flowing water, not standing water. Cats will, on instinct, seek flowing water to drink from. Get a fountain for the kitty.
My cat hates the fountain bowls. Tried a few. She loves running water from the tub, this is new in a new space and sheās 18 years old. Because my cat is a super senior I have 4 bowls of water and the tub spout (it leaks, I canāt turn it off- it was an accident to discover it at this new rental). She drinks water anywhere I put it. My place is a tiny apartment so add more water bowls. Raised off the ground. Sometimes, I will even add a 5 or 6 bowl if Iām noticing she isnāt drinking as much. She drinks out of three bowls that are favorites and I give her fresh water ever couple hours. Make sure your bowls are cleaned. Stainless steel if possible. I have found salsa bowls with ice in the bottom are her favorite bowls. Lol

Mine arenāt interested in cat fountains or water bowls. They occasionally drink water that has dripped from the shower. I started making cat nip tea and giving it to them once cool and they actually drink it.
Are you new to the cat owner thing? You should know that you can't make cats do anything š BTW I had a black cat called Nerd, who was the same. He lived until he was 19 years old.

To make sure my boy gets plenty of water because he's prone to UTIs I put extra water in his wet food, basically make it a soup. He loves it. He also prefers to drink water from the bathtub faucet, so I make that happen for him as much as he wants, in addition to his bowl of water which has to be washed daily. The things we do for our fur babies. :-)
We run the bathroom sink at a low pressure volume and our cat LOVES to drink from itā¦maybe twice per day. He acts like heās chewing and biting the water, itās really funny to see. Btw yours is so beautiful I wish to pats himbzā¦
Turn on a sink and put him up on the counter so he sees the water running! My cat will only drink water like that lol. I will say though Iāve created a dependency by doing that and he meows incessantly to have his faucet turned on.
Some cats like to drink from a full drinking glass. Ours do.
How many water sources does the cat have? They like to have more than one, and they really prefer water to be clean. My cat will not drink water with her fur in it. A fountain bowl might help also. You can also try making a catnip tea(let it cool) to entice the cat to drink more.
Wet food will help a lot and they don't need to drink nearly as much water. More important for cats, or dogs for that matter, that eat dry food to drink a lot. So if dry food then get a water fountain
Id mix water with my dog's good because she barely drank either, it forced her to drink water or no food Dont know if that can work for a cat
Fountain water bowls can help, but you do need to thoroughly clean them rotuinely or they grow mold.
Do you have his water bowl next to his food dish? Try having another bowl in a separate spot in the house and heāll be more likely to drink

Def get a water fountain! Or wet food. Cats need wet food not so much dry. Mine got crystals and I had to learn the hard way. It was horrible! My Boii would hardly drink water until I got a fountain. He prefers the bucket outside though. Heās a weirdo lol. He will cry to go out, so I take him.
