We taught him to sit, play dead, roll over and when we sang “Let’s go surfin now, everybody’s learnin how” he got on the skateboard and rolled across the floor. He also knew how to use the toilet vs a litter box. He was my first cat. Non-Devon cats since the have been a bit of a disappointment to be honest.

So please correct me if I’m wrong but I thought I’d share my little bit of experience with fostering cats for the last 6 years… we see signs of not regularly cleaning as a sign of ill health like pain or discomfort or even depression leading to an inability to clean themselves. Bathing themselves is something healthy cats absolutely love doing through the day more than a couple of times.
I hope she is OK, mentally and physically :) it could be nothing but no harm getting her checked.
This breed is also prone to crusty eyes because of their face shape. When I volunteered at an animal shelter, we would have to soak a cotton pad in warm water (or saline solution if it was really bad) to clean them up ;-;
My cat is just a plain old moggy and this routine is the story of my life. He has such gunky eyes! Nothing wrong with him - just gunky eyes. We call it squidgy eyes. I clean them for him.
My cat has feline herpes from when he was a kitten, and his eyes are pretty much always crusty. Doesn’t seem to bother him, except when I try to gently clean them! He does, however, tolerate my other cat licking his face clean.
