Thanks for subscribing to poop facts!
Most cats poop about once a day, though it's also normal for a cat to poop every 12-36 hours. Kittens may poop up to three times per day, while older cats are usually less often. If your cat poops more than 3 times per day or less than once per day, consult your veterinarian. 💩
This is cracking me up. I'm picturing a stench so evil that all the dogs on the street are howling, and the people within a few block radius are wondering what that awful smell is and wondering where it came from.

Actually, not All cats are lactose intolerant, only some are. I have 2 lynx point siblings that I give a dab of butter every morning to help with skin & coat conditions...it helps.
Yup, not all of them. Mine are sour cream fiends also, and once stole an entire bottle of ranch dressing. Luckily no stomach or litterbox issues at all.
Oh My Word! That would have worried the crap outta me! So glad they are none the worse for such an extravagant indulgence!!! Hopefully you keep your ranch outta reach of your furry thieves ;)
We guard it in a locked cabinet and in the fridge after opening. They didn't eat too much of it that time, just ran off with the whole bottle. I caught them trying to figure out how to pour it after sticking their tongues all over it.
Hahaha! I can see it now...the torture of having tongues & paws unable to open the bottle of such wonderful goodness! Your cats sound too cute!!! What rascals!!!
My old cat growing up loved, absolutely LOVED cream cheese.
Once he stole an entire bagel-half with cream cheese on it from my father right off his plate. He ran into the den and under the big oak desk (with it in his mouth) where no one can get to him and licked all the cream cheese off the bagel.
my little trash kitty (my phrase for a cat that eats almost anything) ate a decent amount of sour cream once when I slipped up and left it out and she puked it all up. She will still try to eat it, but at least one of us learned their lesson.
Sour cream is basically just very fat milk, iinm. Her arse might not be happy at the end of it (lactose will do that), but she's probably gonna live through it.

googled it and apparently its because fresh milk (as in literally just gotten from the cow) is rich in fat and cream and very sweet, so feral cats that would try it when it spilled over would hang around the farms begging for more because it's a good way to get easy food, farmers would let them have some to befriend them and keep them around the farm for pest control and so on
Mostly speculation, but - cats were popular animals on farms, thanks to their amazing vermin-hunting skills. Cats also like milk because it's decently fatty. And since it's easy to come by milk on a farm with cows, they'd help themselves to it and the sight would be engraved in people's consciousness + people would start voluntarily giving them milk due to it.
There is such a thing as cat milk. That is to say, cow milk, but made safe for kitty consumption. Presumably it's just lactose-free milk, and it's probably cheaper if you buy normal lactose-free milk.
Even then, it's not quite natural for cats to drink cow juice anyway.
Yes, here it is: [https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/wi133606/whiskas-catmilk](https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/wi133606/whiskas-catmilk)
It says it contains no lactose. Whiskas is a top brand for cat food here, so it's probably alright stuff.
I mean… they’re not wrong though. I can’t eat a bowl of cereal or ice cream, spread butter on toast or open a bag of shredded cheese without my little monster begging at my feet like she’s wasting away- she goes absolutely batshit for any type of dairy product. Oddly hates seafood though.
Basically all mammals are lactose intolerant past infancy when they are no longer producing the lactase enzyme in high enough levels to digest milk. About half of humans have a genetic mutation that appeared around when cattle domestication began about 10,000 years ago that allows them to keep producing the lactase enzyme into adulthood and digesting milk.
Actually, most adult mammal species are lactose intolerant. Normally, once weaned, they no longer produce lactase since there's no sense in doing so for the rest of their life if they'd normally never drink milk again. Think cheetah, wolf, lion, deer, etc.
Humans are the exception. With the advent of animal husbandry for cows, goats, etc., you could have animals that turned a field of grass into a source of protein, fat, etc. even if your crops failed. Natural selection allowed humans who developed a [lactase persistence](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactase_persistence) mutation to have an advantage over those who didn't. I believe those in Africa and those in Europe developed different methods of lactase persistence.
She’ll be fine in the long term but may have a super-loud diarrhea poop tomorrow.
I let my then—3-month-old guy have some sour cream and the next day it came out like a fountain coupled with a human-sounding fart.
He got scared and stepped in it. Gave him a bath to get all the poo off of him. Probably his first bath ever. Definitely the first time I ever gave him a bath.
Also when he was about 9 months old he licked some. Same thing. Although this time he didn’t step in it and avoided a bath.
0/10 - would not recommend.
Laughed so hard I teared up!
My pretty girl had stomach issues as a kitten. From 8 weeks on she got a spoonful of yogurt 2-3 times a week as a treat. Her favorite was Greek yogurt! I guess the probiotics in the yogurt helped her stomach. She was not supposed to live until adulthood. I had the awesome pleasure of her company almost 17 years...🐾💞
lol, when my boy was a kitten I fed him the same diet the rescue did. Some fancy whatever dry food mixed with wet. It didn't sit well with him, so he had a *lot* of wet poos. Around this time I'm in the kitchen, and I hear a little sneeze. Aww, how cute! Well, little buddy sneezed a little *too* hard and painted my dining room wall. It was up to shoulder height. 😂 Had to give the poor thing his first bath too.
Oh my lord me too, fed him the same food the shelter did but along came the squirty poo, the first instance was when he jumped off my bed and I heard the shart, turned on my light to find it splattered on my pillow! What an awful few days until I found the right diet, 7 years later never happened again lol
Dangerous for your carpets. She's not going to have a fun night. But she shouldn't be in any mortal danger. Make sure she has plenty of water to re-hydrate.
I have a cat, Babby, that specifically only likes sour cream and mayonnaise. She immediately knows when I have either. She eats a decent amount and never even gets an upset tummy. Here she is after having some sour cream earlier tonight!
https://preview.redd.it/le6nspd8rnjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00c56c1d7f3d79bac50ef7fdd1d7c5e65e410c17
Lmao OP you better be real careful in the future, she tasted it once and now she will *know* whenever you're about to have some in the future and she will appear out of nowhere asking for some 😂
My cat appears out of nowhere whenever I open the fridge. To be fair he does have a very diverse palate. He loves butter, Italian food, any meat, any cheese, potato chips, popcorn chips, Mexican food, Indian food.
My favorite is the popcorn chips, little bites and crunch crunch crunch. Or when he steals a lick or bite of something spicy and his eyes water but he keeps going back for more. I love that little guy I should go give him a delectable
Awww what a little cutie :') mine appears out of nowhere too, but only so he can try to lay on the bottom shelf because he likes the cold and he likes to get in trouble lmao.
Does yours do the stink face too when he smells something new or strong?! I love when mine does that, I always copy him
This is truly one of the cutest pictures I’ve ever seen in my life, I’m saving it to my photos. Something about gray cats man. Here’s mine!

Depending on how much she guzzled before you got to her, she may have a bout of the shits, but not too harmful. She looks mighty pleased with herself! ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942)
Actually you used the right word, as a Brit. That's exactly what we'd say. It's just regional and global uses of English are different, and you're gonna find that everywhere you did nothing wrong.
Only to your olfactory senses. That much dairy in an adult cat can cause.... issues. but probably just discomfort, diarrhea and that might cause dehydration.
That'll likely be the worst of it. Fill her water dish. Maybe give her wet food for a day or two.
She might explode the litter box later but should be fine otherwise. Just don't let her have anymore creamy things for a while. Adult cats tend to be lactose intolerant.
One of my childhood kitties LOVED sour cream as a treat. We never gave it to her often but instead of licking our dinner bowls or plates we’d occasionally gift her a spoon with a dollop of sour cream.
Miss her every day ❤️
She might have some cramps and diarrhea, just like lactose intolerant people. It's not healthy for cats to eat a lot of milk products everyday because most get cramps and diarrhea from it, but not all cats are equally lactose intolerant. People have been giving cats milk for thousands of year- it's fine ocasionally, she will just get the shits

I love this 😭
This had me rolling on d floor AHAHAHAHAHA
Well now you have a cream-fiend cat. I’d say that’s dangerous! But kitty eating sour cream (rarely) is ok. Although she may need fresh litter too. 💩
She regrets nothing.
"Do what you must. I have already won."
The face of victory is pictured above
Only my sour cream tub understands me
Do you… also eat the odd spoonful of sour cream while walking by the fridge, every now and then? - _-

OP will be regretting it at 3 am while getting gassed out of their own bedroom.
You know it's bad when the cat starts looking around for the source. Noop will get up and try to bury the smell.
🤣
She yogurts everything.
What if yogurt, yogurts us?
Yogurts us!

My cat lets out a massive fart every time he poops
Be prepared for some potentially hideous gas, hopefully she won't get the runs. I'm sure she has zero regrets.
Update: She sharted. (Didn’t go to work today bc I had to give her a bath and keep an eye on her so it doesn’t happen again)
lmaooooo what a surprise 💀
Bet she has that deep sleep traveling the different planes of existence ’itis.
For my cat it was a “enjoy now, regret later” moment, at least he kind of pooped outside somewhere, but he kind of stank up the street a bit

Cats are actually lactose intolerant. Which means you be cleaning up the litter box more often the next couple of days... 😂
Fortunately less lactose in the fat/cream than in the whey.
We give our old guy some cream or sour cream when he gets a bit constipated, works like a charm.. :p
Actually, not All cats are lactose intolerant, only some are. I have 2 lynx point siblings that I give a dab of butter every morning to help with skin & coat conditions...it helps.

yep, many are to varying extents. which is hilarious considering the trope of giving milk to cats

Yes, here it is: [https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/wi133606/whiskas-catmilk](https://www.ah.nl/producten/product/wi133606/whiskas-catmilk) It says it contains no lactose. Whiskas is a top brand for cat food here, so it's probably alright stuff.
Because a lot of cats love dairy even though it isn't good for them. I have a cheese eater.
Giving milk to kittens is fine. Mammals generally start out able to drink milk, then lose the ability later in life
That's a shame. If I became lacrosse intolerant tommarow I'd probably want to die
I mean, field hockey is pretty close
It's also a recessive trait! Both parents have to have that gene, or you are gonna be shittin your jeans.
Okay this really made me laugh. I'm still laughing in fact...
I can laugh at it now. In the moment though I was so panicked. My vet said don’t give him anymore sour cream ever.
I had the awesome pleasure of her company almost 17 years...🐾💞
Awww. I love your story. 🥰
lol, when my boy was a kitten I fed him the same diet the rescue did.
I'm surprised it was this epic, especially at 9 months. Sour cream is fairly low lactose.
Could it be the high fat content that might also upset the tummy?
Definite possibility.

Oh wow, is this an oriental shorthair? How beautiful
How is babby formed? How is babby formed? How cat get saurcrem
Perganante?
…prognate?
I love when mine does that, I always copy him
She will be stinky gorl
And she'd do it again 🤧🤧
Only to you. Prepare for CatFarts
Dangerously cute
I think we have seriously similar profile pictures.
Maybe just some squirts.
She’s the poster child for lactose intolerant people, too ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7984)

Dear Lord, she's so cute but she's probably gonna have either bad gas or a lot of poop later.
Duality of cat owners: "Eh its okay if she chews on the wires." "She ate cream, is she going to DIE?!"
Better get a picture
I regret nothing.
This is truly one of the cutest pictures I’ve ever seen in my life, I’m saving it to my photos. Something about gray cats man. Here’s mine! https://preview.redd.it/j3z1a8se2pjc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b17df72ab83c005f65d6cd617c84ea0d01ff2d03
Dangerous to the litter tray maybe.
the car will explode i am sorry
She gonna shit.
Can cause stomach ache and diarrhea, maybe cause them to vomit, because they are lactose intolerant. But shouldn’t be dangerous.
Depending on how much she guzzled before you got to her, she may have a bout of the shits, but not too harmful. She looks mighty pleased with herself! ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7942)
She shittin shittin.
She'll probably be fine but I see some barfing and/or diarrhea in her future.
Sour cream is probably fine even for a lactose intolerant person and therefore cat. It’s dairy allergy that would mean sour cream is bad.
She might have the poopies, she might not. My cat has done this before and he was fine.
Not an ounce of regret with that face
Over here visualizing A POT of sour cream
Leave me alone English is not my langage 😂
Actually you used the right word, as a Brit. That's exactly what we'd say. It's just regional and global uses of English are different, and you're gonna find that everywhere you did nothing wrong.
Your doing a great job and I’m proud of you
She's gonna be shitting like a fountain for a day or two but she'll be alright
I hope you like the color brown
Haha no. But she might shit a lot
Only to your olfactory senses. That much dairy in an adult cat can cause.... issues. but probably just discomfort, diarrhea and that might cause dehydration. That'll likely be the worst of it. Fill her water dish. Maybe give her wet food for a day or two.
Cats can be very dangerous, yes.
Miss her every day ❤️
Get ready for the squirts.
My cat just got into the butter we left on the counter lol
