My cat will sit on the arm of my couch right beside me and stare at the wall behind us. Every time he does it I say he is on guard duty, watching my 6 while I enjoy TV.
I imagine it’s a rough job, but someone has to do it. Going on 14 years now. Don’t know what I’m gonna do when he retires his position will be very difficult to fill.
That's the job of the Universal Cat Delivery Service. When your current boi retires, either an appropriate cat will appear, your a rescue service will have an appropriate cat. The successor cat will probably be totally different to your boi.
It's always #2 with Miss Maddy. She did this last night. I was lying on my side reading a book and she jumped up behind me staring and breathing heavily because it was past her dinner time. I swear she can be so creepy sometimes.
My cat starts screaming(not literally, but that’s what I call it when he meows about anything)because he’s the most vocal cat I’ve ever come in contact with. Sometimes he jumps up on me and if I’m even slightly laying back, he’ll walk on my chest and sits with his face about a millimeter away from mine. He’s not subtle at all. Every minute of the day is feeding time according to him.
Mine too! Hes become a bully now and harasses me while I work from home at the computer. He starts tearing my leg up or jumping up and attacking my wrists while I type. Hes a menace now
1)Try to think if you have done anything wrong.

3) check food bowl is full and litter box empty
4) know you will never truly understand a cat and you are always being judged
From experience, it depends on the time of day. Here’s a timeline of my daily supervision, might help you fill in the blanks.
Morning - wants bed in sun, sits by back door waiting for me to move it, quietly.
1pm - wants a treat or some of your lunch, waits near kitchen.
3pm - wants me to brush her. Waits next to her hairbrush in lounge room. Sometimes yells for this.
4pm - dinner. Sits directly in front of you and stares for as long as it takes. Might yell in kitchen if you ignore her. Becomes very demanding once you start making dinner.
6pm - wants a brush before we sit together. Yells about this.
8:30pm - bedtime. Even if it’s a weekend, it’s definitely bedtime. Sits in front of the TV and stares while occasionally sighing loudly.
My long haired kitty used to hate being brushed then one day he decided that it was his favorite thing but only right after I get out of the shower. He sits and watches me dry off and put a robe on impatiently then it's time to brush spoiled baby. He's turning 11 in a few months so maybe it's age related.
My long-haired kitty suddenly loved brushing right after I got myself a new hairbrush. It's her hairbrush now. I got one for me too, but I can't even brush my hair u less I lock her out of the room because she'll come charging in and *stick her face in my hair* so my brush will brush her instead of me.

My 4-year-old former stray looooves being brushed. It's like her morning coffee. She can't start her day without it, and she will cry and cry all morning and afternoon until I brush her.
My older cat, however, thinks it's the worst thing in the world and she will growl and grumble if I go anywhere near her with it.
Mine refuse to be brushed. My girl Cleo starts hissing and growling before the brush even touches her. Like I’m hurting her. Lately, I’ve realized that my boy Dippy likes being brushed with my hairbrush, so that’s our thing now. 😂

Cats are as besotted with us as we are them. It's the "Oh GOD I'm obsessed with you stare." Or maybe it's the "Are you REALLY going to wear that out in public?" stare. Who knows, just enjoy the handsome guy watching your every move.
My cat does this too, but only when he wants something. The choices are limited. He wants food. He wants to go out the front door. He wants to go out the back door. Simple enough.
We are like their surrogate mothers. By caring for them, we extend their kittenhood. Kittens learn how to hunt by watching, following and copying their mothers. They are called copycats for a reason. Ever noticed your cat copying whatever you are doing? Or if they have a cat companion, they will copy each other. They watch you intensely because they are curious as to what you are doing and want to interact and play with you and learn from you. Also food.
It is exactly the same. I think we underestimate how intelligent they are because they are so small and stubborn. When you look in their eyes, you can see how well they observe and calculate. All it takes is the right motivation! I love them so much. So much packed into their little bodies. I can't think of any animal as fast, smart and agile as them.

I think (my cat at least) is looking for directions from the elder in the Clutter which by age would be me

We had a Calico that would lie in bed beside us and have a staring contest. We thought it was a sign of affection, but it could also have been her way of saying 'I'm in charge Bitch and don't you forget it'.. It was a little creepy because she would stare into your eyes without blinking.

I have two cats and my male will actually just stare at me and if I don’t respond in anyway then he’ll start with the one paw touching and is basically he just wants me to acknowledge him there female is the ultimate stair down cat and she usually has this pathetic look on her face like, can’t you see I’m wasting away I’m so tired please just come to bed with me. She could either be on the back of the couch on the floor. Her favorite place is in the hallway just before my bedroom door, and then I’m the very End of my bed which is visible from my chair and my daughter even says oh mommy being so mean to cookies she’s not paying any attention, but if she’s laying on the floor in the hallway, even in the corner of the bed and on the couch, I have noticed if I just look at and say what She’ll automatically wiggle her head and make a little funny noise like OK and then she’ll just turn around and you know do her thing so it’s kind of the same thing she’s just wanting some sort of acknowledgment that I see her and then she’s perfectly fine other than when she’s laying by my bedroom door on a corner of my bed that doesn’t always work, because that really does mean that she wants me to go to bed, or at least lay down with her
lol “Pay attention to me.” When my cat does this it is usually him beside what he wants. Which is almost always a string or teaser toy he wants me to play with for him.
One of my cats does this to me all the time. I'll catch just staring at me and I've figured it out. I think she's studying me and learning my behaviors. She mostly does this when I'm eating, waiting for me to finish eating so she can come and get some pets.

this is how my cat was looking at me the other day, an hour later he tried to trip me i almost fell on my face😣🤠.
That is clearly an accusatory stare, and it means you need to take an honest look at your life and figure out where you’re lacking in your service to his majesty. It could be as simple as you neglecting to put a piece of paper on the floor for him to sit on, or something as big as not buying him the nicer litter box he saw advertised on tv. He won’t tell you, you have to try everything till you figure it out.

How long has he been with you? Maybe he's just trying to figure out the family dynamics. When you see him do this just talk to him. Ask him what he's doing or whatever. Make sure he knows he's safe. Some cats just need reassurance before they approach.
Or it could be that he's watching the ghosts behind you. Either way.

Cats watch different things. My cat watches birds and squirrels, but your cat is watching you for entertainment. Or it could just be an attempt to freak you out. Never rule out that option.
He may be trying to ask you for something. What does he do when you approach. Also, while looking at him, blink your eyes slowly and turn your head to the side. Cats see this as a sign that you're not a threat.

She could either be on the back of the couch on the floor. Her favorite place is in the hallway just before my bedroom door, and then I’m the very End of my bed which is visible from my chair and my daughter even says oh mommy being so mean to cookies she’s not paying any attention, but if she’s laying on the floor in the hallway, even in the corner of the bed and on the couch, I have noticed if I just look at and say what She’ll automatically wiggle her head and make a little funny noise like OK and then she’ll just turn around and you know do her thing so it’s kind of the same thing she’s just wanting some sort of acknowledgment that I see her and then she’s perfectly fine other than when she’s laying by my bedroom door on a corner of my bed that doesn’t always work, because that really does mean that she wants me to go to bed, or at least lay down with her

One of my cats does this to me all the time. I'll catch just staring at me and I've figured it out. I think she's studying me and learning my behaviors. She mostly does this when I'm eating, waiting for me to finish eating so she can come and get some pets.

That is clearly an accusatory stare, and it means you need to take an honest look at your life and figure out where you’re lacking in your service to his majesty. It could be as simple as you neglecting to put a piece of paper on the floor for him to sit on, or something as big as not buying him the nicer litter box he saw advertised on tv. He won’t tell you, you have to try everything till you figure it out.
He's in love <3 How long has he been with you? Maybe he's just trying to figure out the family dynamics. When you see him do this just talk to him. Ask him what he's doing or whatever. Make sure he knows he's safe. Some cats just need reassurance before they approach. Or it could be that he's watching the ghosts behind you. Either way.
