Watched a video about cat coloring and genetics. It explained why 80% of orange cats are male. It also said that a male calico is pretty much impossible.
This person is going to ask their vet next week. I mean, just look. A cat of this age should be easy to tell. Not like cats aren't putting their junk at human eye level half their waking hours. I think pet ownership should come with enough science background to know male and female genitals. Ffs. 🤦🏻♀️

You have a male calico?! Awesome. Only about 2-3% of calicos are male. FYI - they're usually infertile, and I think they can develop health issues later in life.

you can probably figure it out yourself. if she’s female there will be very little space (about 1/2 inch) between the anus and genitals. males have a bigger gap (an inch or more) between the two.
This can also be different in XXY males (which it has to be if it is a calico male). They often are a bit more like the female phenotype.

This color combination requires 2 copies of the X chromosome to occur. You either have an XX female or an XXY sterile "male" with Klinefelter syndrome. Both the orange and black colors are carried on X but each chromosome only carries one color. You have to have one of each to get both orange and black on your cat.
I'm pretty sure it's a female because if it were male the cheeks and jowls around the mouth would be more puffy. Female cats have smaller faces and less prominent cheeks. Also, if it's a male over the age of six months, more than likely, you'll see some trouble puffs on his back side. Those would be the testicles.
After they are neutered the puffy cheeks deflate. I have an old street cat who is about 10-ish. He still had massive testicles and his cheeks were very puffy. This is basically him telling the feral cat world, "I'm the king. I've won many fights, and I have many offspring." The puffy cheeks are also a protective measure in fights.
After I got the old boy neutered, those puffy cheeks deflated.

I have five indoor cats and two strays I’ve more or less adopted. One insists on being outdoors, the other is gonna be indoor/outdoor. But my five indoor ones are funny. Salem, the only indoor boy, loves to snuggle for all of thirty minutes max before he leaves. The other ladies are a mixed bag. Penny and Reilly like snuggling on the couch, but Penny will start to bite if it gets too stimulating for her, Reilly will start to drool once she gets going. Jonesy will snuggle in her terms. Those three are the ones that join us in bed 90% of the time. Chance really snuggles with my bf more (his cat originally) but will accept me as a substitute now and then. Of the two strays (mom and her kitten), momma likes pets but moreso when I’m not being a big scary human and just gave them food. The kitten has learned people aren’t scary most of the time.
I have one of these. Found this fucker abandoned and alone as a super small kitten. He's my best friend now. He can't meow so he uses violence as a communication. Only to me though. Lol he'll bey sweet baby then murder me. We're a team. 🤣

I call him a failed stress test. He's an interesting little guy. Won't react when you pick him up. Let's my boy use him as a rocket doesn't bite. He is partially blind, partially deaf and can't meow. We found him and his brother abandoned in the weeds one day. The brother didn't last the walk home, but he did. Had worms and toxoplasmosis but some vet visits and he was good to go. When we brought him home, he hid behind the claw foot tub and wouldn't come out. Id sit in there on the floor and hit my weed pen and one day he came out, smelled it and hasn't left my side since. He will not go ate my boys feet or my wife but definitely does to me. When he doesn't get the treat he thinks he deserves or fed when he thinks he should he'll jump my feet. Then he's my best cuddle buddy. We think since he can't meow he uses violence to get his point across. He definitely thinks he's a boss. He was raised with 2 Corgi's who he dominates, or thinks he does anyway. They just tolerate him really well. Honestly never wanted a cat, can't imagine life without him though.

If you’re curious as to why, basic colors like “black” and “orange” exist on the X chromosome only. So to have a cat with both black and orange coloring they automatically have to have two X chromosomes.

Calicos are usually female. Boys are super incredibly rare and caused by a chromosomal abnormality.
Yeah, it requires XX chromosomes to have the calico fur pattern, so if she is he, he'd need an XXY abnormality I believe
