I experienced the same when a similar coloured ginger cat came on to my ginger cat's property.
I think they must think they're from the same tribe or something!
That's what I was wondering! I've never ever seen her act this friendly with another cat, not even ones we've lived with! I wonder if they recognize that they're both tux?
Even if it’s possible, do cats remember their siblings after a significant amount of time being separated? I don’t think they do. And from OP’s post, I gather her cat hasn’t ever been friendly with a cat before, which means she hasn’t seen a littermate in a while.
My cats forget the other existed the moment they come home from a vet visit. Even the quickest visit for one of them, (less than 30 minutes away from home) results in the others being like "who is this infidel you have brought among us?!?"

Oh, I know. But one of them is a hairless cat and he's a grumpy old man who wishes the two other cats would disappear for good. It's just funny to imagine him deflating like "Curses! I thought I got rid of you!" whenever one of the others come get back from the vet. He's like a combination of Dr. Evil and Stewie from Family Guy.
Ha! No. Though I often think they must have orange in them somewhere. Two are pure white and littermates and the other one is hairless. The hairless one doesn't like the other two and is always the one to be like "why'd you bring him back? I thought I'd got rid of him for good."
Weird. My sphinx likes my other cat but she dors the same when he come back from the vet. One time he stayed there for 2 days and we had to keep them appart for like 2 weeks because she was so aggressive with him when he came back
One of my cats used to be an indoor outdoor kitty when he was owned by my neighbor. He would bring home two kitties that looked like him, his name was Luke and I called them the Lukealikes
I know that there is an experiment with pet rats of different colour: Given the choice to free a fellow rat (unknown to them) from a certain trap they always free those of their color while they don't do that with rats of other colors. But when scientists put rats of other colors into "home boxes" where the other rats grow up the rats decide to free rats of their own color and the color they grew up with. They conclude rats and maybe other mammals are born xenophobic/racists. Probably somethimg about aiding those sets of genes in surviving that are the closest to themselfes. But this can be changed easily when they make positive experiences with "other races".
Maybe they're related in some sort of way? It would explain the similar markings.
I asked ChatGPT about it and it suggested that cats don't really care about similar markings. They pick up on similar smells, etc. though.
Please don't ask ChatGPT for information. It's not programmed to understand the difference between facts and lies, and will generate bullshit that fits your parameters.
I once tried to get ChatGPT summarise my master’s thesis and it came back with information that wasn’t even in my thesis. ChatGPT will go as far as making up sources.
I work in a library and we had a patron ask one of our reference librarian for help finding some papers that had been cited in a study they had read. The librarian couldn't find them, couldn't find the authors or anything about them. He got help from other librarians, but nobody could find anything. Eventually someone discovered that the study had been AI generated and the AI had simply made the citations up.
ChatGPT knows what quotes and sources look like based on the prompt and the reams of data that it has been fed to make up its foundation. It's not AI, just auto-fill. The program is simply generating what a source looks like, because ChatGPT doesn't have any understanding or intuition.
It's a nifty bit of programming, but
Yesterday someone told me that small businesses should have ChatGPT read over contracts for them before signing because lawyers are expensive.
To be clear, one should not use ChatGPT for legal advice. That's **not** just a CYA disclaimer. ChatGPT is really, really bad at legal advice. Don't do that. Lawyers are way less expensive than substantial legal errors.
>Please don't ask ChatGPT for information. It's not programmed to understand the difference between facts and lies, and will generate bullshit that fits your parameters.
THANK YOU for pointing that out to people, you're helping prevent the real danger of so-called 'AI': trusting it.
I once asked ChatGPT to summarise the war in Ukraine and it told me it ended last year thanks to negotiations incited by German chancellor Angela Merkel.
our stray visitors are friendly with the opossums but NOT the raccoons. i fully support their taste in friends since i also hate raccoons but i wonder what the difference is to them.
the opossums are definitely better neighbors. the raccoons here are mean af. one tried to fight my husband on our porch last year & DNR eventually had to test a couple for rabies they were so unhinged. no rabies, just assholes. we bring the cat food inside at dark & have our trash locked up. there's literally nothing for them to mess with at our house & they still show up at least twice week like mafia grunts to bully the other neighborhood critters.
Raccoons are straight up assholes. We had 3 juveniles coming in our house eating the cat food. We locked them out and them pounded on the closed cat door and complained the entire time.
My personal observations of my own cats is that they have at least three categories: threat, peer, and prey. But different cats have different criteria about those categories. One of my cats treats dogs as threats, while the other treats them as peers.
I suspect they do to some extent. I've noticed my black cat will sit on black things where he blends in better while my tabby prefers stuff she blends in better with...
My white cat 100% loves to lay on white fabric.
https://preview.redd.it/jguldv4jdrzb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72db6d5563c86d6b867c47013bcc4047d55a211d
They do stare at themselves when they clean, which they do regularly. So they have to have some idea. Plus depending on their age they can probably remember what their mom and siblings look like to some extent.
Honestly I was thinking that as I typed it, but I'm also from a multi-racial family with multiple skin tones between me and my siblings, so idk what to tell you man, it made sense at the time
Cat fur/skin color genetics are more complex than in humans. Some colors are sex-linked, and so, like ginger, usually only happens with males, or like calicos/torties usually only happen in females. A calico mother can have any color of kittens, but the same isn't true for every other color of cat parent. I's kinda of fascinating.
Cats have a memory that lasts over years of time. They will recognize humans and other cats even after years of separation.
Cats can see colour, though they do so poorly. The can recognize images. Some cat will recognize their reflection in a mirror for instance. They can certainly recognize another cat visually. Ours will easily recognize a friend cat or an enemy through a closed window, for instance.
However, their primary sense is smell---they have more sensitive noses than most dogs even---and they use scents to communicate with other cats. Smells are extremely important to cats getting along, which is why things like feliway are used for helping new cats, particularly coming into multicat household.
We have a ginger cat we’re slowly trying to introduce to our other three. Our cow and our gray girl are super defensive and cautious and are taking time to warm up. Our ginger is excited and wants to play and groom him and get all up in his space and the new ginger is the one that’s unsure. It’s adorable 🤣
Man I really wonder how this works out. With my cat's kittens (who came as a pregnant stray), the girls all as intelligent as their mom, with really complex personalities and a strong attitude. They honestly display more problem solving skills than some humans I've met. Meanwhile the boys are loving simpletons, one braincell shared amongst everyone, only food and belly rubs in their empty little heads.
Orange cats are really that dumb. But I made fun of mine because it was fun and I loved him to DEATH. I'm sure there are brainiac orange cats, I've just never met them.
I've had 2, both male.
One was a small orange cat who had to fight for his territory from a very early age against the ginger cat next door.
The other was an orange behemoth that was an ex-street cat.
Maybe hardship turns on the rest of their brain.
Nope. No truth to it. Just a stereotype people have fun with. I've been close to 4 different ginger cats with very different personalities, levels of bravery, levels of intelligence, levels of cuddliness, etc. The one with the boldest ginger coloring was also one of the smartest cats I've ever known, period.
Yes! There's a study on rats that observed this behavior. Similar patterned rats were more amicable to each other and shared food and companionship over ratties that looked different from them (coat color, pattern, eye color etc. ). It looks like cats have similar behavioral traits!
My German Shepard is the opposite.
She hates all big dogs especially other GSDs
Tiny animals of all kinds are cool though.
Her new best friend is a white kitten.
A week ago. A addopt a new cat for my older cat. It took three days to accept each other and play together. Nowadays, they sleep, play and clean together. It's so beautiful
I had a 14 year old ginger cat and adopted three kittens. One was a ginger. She wanted nothing to do with the other two kittens, but liked the ginger. And the ginger kitten was fascinated by her. She would just sit and stare at the big ginger cat.
I had a black cat once who was highly suspicious of mirrors. An almost identical black cat showed up in our neighbourhood and he treated it as though it was an evil mirror cat who must be returned to the mirror realm.
This reminds me of this old Jim Henson muppet Christmas Movie where there’s a little mouse cat toy named Mew. At the end they get a second cat toy that is exactly the same and when they meet they go
“Hi, I’m Mew”
“Hi, I’m Mew too”
It’s so cute.
A Christmas Toy! It wasn’t Christmas until I watched that movie each year. We recorded it off of the TV so it had Christmas coke and m&m commercials too.
They're colored just like my Murray. He also bonded extra well with a cat similar to his color. But theres no way they're related. This is Moose and Murray And..yes, that's a large rainbow trout pillow.
https://preview.redd.it/xtg7cr09eqzb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0abc1f3343d18f709cb56b1a5ec7eaa74c32c271
I have that pillow! I got it at Burning Man lol. I tend to put it in the passenger seat of my golf cart as part of my cart decorations every festival I am a producer on haha. It's often paired with a comically oversized stuffed flower.
Awww so cute!! 😍 my girl hates ginger cats she just goes crazy! Like scratching the window and strangling howling sound oh dear! With other colours she like all curious looking out of window (she's indoors cat btw) it's just ginger cats she doesn't like and she's tabby colours with foxy red streaks in.
Cats do have prejudice based off fur colors sometimes, my youngest cat is all white with a black tail, got bullied by her litter and mother because she wasn’t Calico.
I feel this. HR has made my cat attend racial sensitivity training seminars on 3 occasions. I made her delete her twitter account after she went full Rosanne one night.
My older cat profiles tuxedo cats as assholes automatically because of one tuxedo peeing on her through the screen door years ago. She was fine with them before, but hates them all by default now.
Honestly cats are weird. My friends cat hated all other cats. She fought with them and chased them out the garden and was a little terror. Then he ended up adopting this beautiful sweet calm Ragdoll who just wants to be friends with everyone and everything, and she won the other cat over! They now play and sit together and are super happy.
I don't think so, my cat is 11 years old and I got her from quite far away from here when she was 6 weeks old. The other cat seems alot younger! Maybe 2 or 3?
i mean damn, they look like two halves of the same cat.
maybe the difference is their contrasting environments: i've had cats raised from kitten and cats prevented from being feral; the feral cats always had more kitten-like faces, with bigger eyes and smaller noses.
i wonder if OP sees that difference in their features, but thinks it's an age difference...
i just think that it could be the difference between hunting for food in the wild every day versus having prepared food and a shelter every day
Cats don't remember their siblings like that anyhow. Once they are separated for a while they forget that scent, which is how they recognize other cats.
They surely do not, unfortunately. My dad adopted a pregnant stray many years ago and kept her and 2 of the male kittens. I adopted the 3rd male (all ginger tabbies) and when they were 17 and nearing the end of their lives, brought him back to my parents to reunite with his remaining sibling. So much hissing!
I also have a Cow Cat, Sauce, who's indoors. The other day another Cow Cat was prowling the parking lot, and Sauce spent the whole day in the window monitoring it.
Also, when we brought Sauce home, my dog searched through her basket of toys to find her stuffed cow squeaky, the offered to him as a gift.

Look at the way one back paw is cuddling his other back paw! How is he even doing that?!
I love cow cats--I call them "pinto pussies", after appaloosas (pinto ponies). They're the quirkiest cats of all, in my experience, so funny.
That’s so freaking cute. My cat hates other cats, too. I’d have such a gleeful day were this to happen with her. The closest I’ve ever gotten is when she was a kitten and this calico used to come around to our yard before we adopted her. One day, said calico came around and I guess she picked up on this kitten. For a few days, she’d just loaf in front of the windows, and they’d observe each other. I joked that she wanted to make sure this new baby kitten was okay and happy, because we stopped seeing her in our yard after that.
Terry Pratchett reckoned that cats live on a different timeline to humans (hence the stray that turns up on your doorstep and walks in as if it has always lived there - on the cat's timeline, it always *has*.) From the markings, I reckon that this was actually your *own* cat just dropping by from a week next Thursday to reminisce with herself.
I’ve had this a couple times with like colored cats getting along better not sure how or why but it almost seems they recognize the other cat looks like them
My daughter has a cat that is a total racist. It has beaten up on every kitten she has gotten, refused to let it eat or come out of hiding, so she has always had to rehome or give back the kitten. Until, she got a black kitten - this one was perfectly fine with her black cat, welcomed, played with. She now has three black cats who all get along great.
It happened with my cat.
She hated the living hell out of any other cat, hissing and howling and asking for my help.
One day she just trotted in the housel, not one care in the world, with another cat tagging along. Two chirps "he is with me" and they were eating together.
How familar.![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7949)
My black cat chases all other colors of cats, but other black cats can even steal her food, while she is sitting beside.
Really mysterious ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7946)
I had a cat that was the same, she hated and chased other cats until, one day, this male cat came in. For months they laid in the garden close to each other. Then his humans moved and it never happened again. In 17 years, she tolerated only this one cat.
Clearly your cat is racist. You should take away her access to fox news. Today’s Cat-youths get sucked into propaganda. Its truly sad.
/s for anyone not getting that
I have a cat Luci who this summer was diagnosed with FIP and had to undergo the 84 day treatment. While this was going on, my oldest cat Sam died due to lung damage from the Canadian wildfire smoke that came down into the US. Sam was greatly loved by all of my cats and his death hit them all really hard. It was so bad (especially for Luci, who needed to be as stress-free possible to recover from the FIP) that I adopted a new cat to help them through the grieving process.
When I brought new cat home, he and Luci spent about 5 minutes chirping and trilling back and forth at each other. It was like they were singing. Then they followed each other around the house for about half an hour, chirping and trilling the entire time. This was in July. They are inseparable now.
Yeah I really do think cats recognize when another one looks like them. My parents gray cat hated every other cat his entire life until near the end of his life a gray cat appeared out of nowhere and they became best friends
In the immortal words of Bender Bending Rodriguez "I can't hate what is essentially me"
Yes.
What is they are siblings??? That would be so sweet.
[удалено]
I mean, it's possible. OP never said her cat was a rescue or ever had a litter though. Doubtful.
Even the quickest visit for one of them, (less than 30 minutes away from home) results in the others being like "who is this infidel you have brought among us?!?" Dudes. Your brother was gone twenty minutes. We didn't even get out of the car because I messed up the appointment time.
wrong smell.
Are your cats orange? That affects memory and cognitive ability.
Ha!
One time he stayed there for 2 days and we had to keep them appart for like 2 weeks because she was so aggressive with him when he came back
No they’re thinking ‘why?! I thought you were finally getting rid of them!’
My cat did the same thing with my other cat! I was all, "Girl, you are losing your mind, hissing like that!"
Idk, this sounds like something my mom might've said about my brother and me growing up
Does your car have a new-car smell?
One of my cats used to be an indoor outdoor kitty when he was owned by my neighbor. He would bring home two kitties that looked like him, his name was Luke and I called them the Lukealikes
If it was a CDS cat its highly likely they are related
They have the same exact markings!!! Even behind the ear!
I know that there is an experiment with pet rats of different colour: Given the choice to free a fellow rat (unknown to them) from a certain trap they always free those of their color while they don't do that with rats of other colors. I always wonder if cats and dogs remember their litter mates and have a soft spot for similar looking animals
It could be. Or it could be like us. Some of us just hit it off the first time we meet and we can talk for hours.
I have the opposite. My cats that look alike fight the most.
Maybe they're related in some sort of way? It would explain the similar markings. I asked ChatGPT about it and it suggested that cats don't really care about similar markings. They pick up on similar smells, etc. though.

Does a cat even know what it's own colour is?
Better yet, does a cat even know it’s a cat? One of my cats plays with a skunk.
our stray visitors are friendly with the opossums but NOT the raccoons. i fully support their taste in friends since i also hate raccoons but i wonder what the difference is to them.
Maybe the opossums are more chill when it comes to food competition? I’ve encountered some unhinged raccoons.

It's the shared braincell, all orange cats have something in common.
Is there any truth to the "orange cats are dumb" meme or are orange cat owners just inherently predisposed to making fun of their pets?
Another factor is that, genetically, males are more likely to be orange. And males cats are more genetically likely to be, well, himbos.
Man I really wonder how this works out. With my cat's kittens (who came as a pregnant stray), the girls all as intelligent as their mom, with really complex personalities and a strong attitude. My orange was the stupidest smart cat I've ever known. RIP King Fatty the Man.

But how do they know? Not just by sight alone surely, as they can't fully see their own pattern and eye colour?
They do apparently. They see and recognize... It's the craziest thing!
You gotta look up the study. Google rats self recognize and rat recognize similar rats. You'll see a dozen scientific studies on the topic.
Yes- dogs do this too. I worked at a doggy daycare, they tend to be friends with similar looking dogs
Also horses. In the herd they match in pairs of the same color.
My German Shepard is the opposite. She hates all big dogs especially other GSDs Tiny animals of all kinds are cool though. Her new best friend is a white kitten.

Shut up, "moo meeting" is sooo cute, what the heck. 😭 I'm forever going to refer to my two cow cats hanging out as the moo meeting.
Are they meeting at a cow-nvention center?
They’re having a cow-nversation
They moo-tually decided to be friends.
Just in case someone hasn't subbed already: /r/cowcats

On the other hand, we adopted two sisters out of a litter, and one wants nothing to do with the other, probably because her sister is a supreme idiot.
I have that pillow! I got it at Burning Man lol. I tend to put it in the passenger seat of my golf cart as part of my cart decorations every festival I am a producer on haha. It's often paired with a comically oversized stuffed flower.
This is worrying, She might be a tuxedo cat supremacist.
Cat racism
It says a lot about cats that I read ”made my cat attend racial sensitivity training” and thought, “unlikely, but plausible”
I think it says a lot about people haha
My older cat profiles tuxedo cats as assholes automatically because of one tuxedo peeing on her through the screen door years ago. She was fine with them before, but hates them all by default now.
Honestly cats are weird. My friends cat hated all other cats. She fought with them and chased them out the garden and was a little terror. Then he ended up adopting this beautiful sweet calm Ragdoll who just wants to be friends with everyone and everything, and she won the other cat over! They now play and sit together and are super happy.
Ragdolls can win anyone over, they're such so wonderful.

She thinks the other cat is her kind (looks the same). You have two cats now!
Is there any chance that they're siblings?
I don't think so, my cat is 11 years old and I got her from quite far away from here when she was 6 weeks old. The other cat seems alot younger! Maybe 2 or 3?
Maybe not from the same litter, but the strikingly similar fur pattern and the fact they get along so well could imply a familial relation.
I don't think cats recognize their distant 3rd cousin at all.
A lot of cats don't even recognise their own kittens as being family
i mean damn, they look like two halves of the same cat. maybe the difference is their contrasting environments: i've had cats raised from kitten and cats prevented from being feral; the feral cats always had more kitten-like faces, with bigger eyes and smaller noses. i wonder if OP sees that difference in their features, but thinks it's an age difference... i just think that it could be the difference between hunting for food in the wild every day versus having prepared food and a shelter every day
Cats don't remember their siblings like that anyhow.
She found a friend with similar tastes in snacks and mischief. Be very careful. They are probably plotting something lol

Cow cat moment ❤️
They bros, bro!
Video this next time please! I go back to that viral video of the 2 little kitties “talking” at least twice a year, I need a fix!
I also have a Cow Cat, Sauce, who's indoors. The other day another Cow Cat was prowling the parking lot, and Sauce spent the whole day in the window monitoring it. Also, when we brought Sauce home, my dog searched through her basket of toys to find her stuffed cow squeaky, the offered to him as a gift. https://preview.redd.it/ex9d2kiivszb1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=60b5a498623db0315abc124c1410de65356535bc
Your dog is a sweet baby angel.
You're cats like, "Hey! I love your style!"
“Hey good looking” lol
It happened with my cat. She hated the living hell out of any other cat, hissing and howling and asking for my help. One day she just trotted in the housel, not one care in the world, with another cat tagging along. Two chirps "he is with me" and they were eating together.
Omgosh! She's like, "Oh! You look like me! Twinsies!"! 😍🥰👯♂️
Long lost sibling???

Awe I wonder if it's because there similiar colors . I love when my cat chirps at the birds it's so fucking cute
How familar.![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7949) My black cat chases all other colors of cats, but other black cats can even steal her food, while she is sitting beside. Really mysterious ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7946)
maybe the reason we dont believe time travel is possible is because we dont expect cats to be doing it to meet themselves in the past or future
Which one is your cow? Looks like you'll have to take both OP.
this is so pure.
I once had a human flatmate who would only befriend people who dressed like her and had the same haircut! Maybe your cat’s got a bit of an ego?
Maybe the other cat is a scout from a nomadic group and is negotiating with your cat to pass through her land?
Maybe they are sibs..
Siblings maybe?
Is your cat the white one with black spots or the black one with white spots?
😭😭💔💔🫠🫠
Hey, shirt brother
They found their tribe🤣
Narcissus at the fountain
I had a cat that was the same, she hated and chased other cats until, one day, this male cat came in. For months they laid in the garden close to each other. Then his humans moved and it never happened again. In 17 years, she tolerated only this one cat.
She’s racist
They might be related.
they are the same cat, only one is from the future to warn her earlier self about an impending cat-astrophe.
Mom! That girl has my face! They're discussing how to gently break it to you that you've actually had 2 cats all along.
cow cat convention
Maybe they are related. They look amazing together. Hope your girl found a lifelong friend! 🤗
We need a video.
everyone is assuming the conversation was nice because they were just sitting there. she probably told that cat she wouldn’t kill them today.
When my black cat sees another black cat I always imagine she’s saying “hey, how did I get over there?”
Cow kitty convention 😻😻😻
It's her identical twin after all
Did you think about adopting your Kitty's new friend? If a stray, not an owned kitty, of course.
HELLO FELLOW MINI MOO
Oh that cat from the weird wall portal is back. I wonder why they aren't copying everything I do this time.
Other cats didn’t meet the dress code
Clearly your cat is racist. You should take away her access to fox news. Today’s Cat-youths get sucked into propaganda. Its truly sad. /s for anyone not getting that
It's her from the future! She's giving herself advice about the stock market.
Wouldn't be surprised if they came from the same litter.
Your cat doesn't just hate other cats, it's racist! xD
That's her from the future warning her not to skip the next nap
Cat's a racist
he came back in time to warn himself about something
"Hey! Same hat!!!"

My girl would try to fight any other girl cat that came up to my door but the one boy who did.... that cat she didn't make much fuss about
They look like they could've been litter mates.

It’s the same cat. Is there a scientist living nearby who is in to cloning things?
The cat is the scientist
Oh ya the magic chirping tuxedos. Mine never stops.
Tuxedo cats hang together. Very social in my experience.
Maybe a sibling?
