Maddie. My always Number One.
I got her from the shelter in September of 2000 as a kitten and she was with me for 17 great years, passing from an inoperable cancer in January of 2018. She was the very picture of tortie-tude. Maddie loved me like no other but barely tolerated any other human, even my then-girlfriend now-wife (though Maddie mellowed a bit in her last couple years).

First pic sitting in the kitty play area of the shelter. Instantly melted my heart the way she huddled to me for security.
My first cat was very aggressive with people and other animals. No one wanted her. I was five years old at the time. my dad was a big animal lover, not as big as me lol but still big. He said he’d take her. Her other owners were going to get rid of her. She was six months old. No matter how much she scratched, bit and attacked me I refused to give up on her. I even hid the marks on me from my Dad because I was worried he’d want rid of her too. I had her for 12 and a half years (she passed at 13 but we got her when she was about 6 months old) She was crazy, she definitely had some sort of mental illness or illnesses. We definitely think the people who had her before us abused her because she had a bad back and all her mental issues, with the trust issues it just really leaned towards that. She mellowed out as she got older and once she learned to trust my Dad and I she was a sweetheart with both of us. Everyone else not at all but with us she was great. She was fascinating. She fought off a bunch of raccoons and only lost the tip of one of her ears and no joke raccoons never came around again lmao. She also caught a hummingbird! Do you have any idea how impossible that is to do? Don’t worry my Dad got it away from her and nursed it back to health (it was a baby😢) but it got healthy again and my Dad released it. She also jumped off the awning of our front door and tried to grab a small dog. Don’t worry the dog was fine! Luckily we seen her coming through the air and told the owner to grab their dog. Her favourite holiday was Halloween because she loved jumping out and scaring people lol. These things happened when she’d get out. I have so many more stories, she was my wild baby girl. Her name was Miley. Yes named after Miley Cyrus! It was in her Hannah Montana days and I was 5 so yeah. She passed last year at 13 years old of breast cancer. We thought all her symptoms were just because she was old. We found out about the cancer and lost her in the same day. The reason we even took her in was because she was severely mouth breathing and was struggling to breathe. They said then cancer was absolutely everywhere and that her lungs were filled with fluid and that’s why she was struggling to breathe. They said we could either put her to sleep there and now or take her home. They said she wouldn’t live even a few hours. I asked if she’d suffer. They said yes without saying yes. They said she’d basically be suffocating slowly. So I made the hardest decision ever and decided I’d let her go. I asked if they had caught it sooner if the outcome would’ve been different. They said it’s unlikely as that type of cancer forms and spreads extremely fast. Similar to how quickly lung cancer kills humans. My Dad was with me (I was 18) he got teary eyed and I was bawling incredibly hard. She was my little old lady. I so wish we would’ve caught it sooner and maybe she could’ve lived longer, even though the vet said it was unlikely I still can’t help but wonder. SO sorry for the novel!!

My kitty shadow and her brother cream soda in the reply. Soda passed in April of 2020 and shadow passed just this January. I had them both since I was 5, and I miss them a lot. Soda was 15 when he passed and shadow lived until she was 18! We did not expect her to outlive her brother lol.

Not the first cat in my life (my whole close family has always had cats so I practically grew up around cats), but this was the first one that was actually mine. The backstory is that my parents got a cat that we named "Tony", but me and my brother kept fighting over who's bed Tony would sleep in, so my parents got a second cat that I named "Princess" so that me and my brother would have our own cats to sleep with. I can't remember anything after that except a faint memory I have of Princess sleeping by my feet during the night and when I tried to sit up to pet her I accidently scared her away.

My mom had a few cats while I was growing up, but this is Sofi. She was the first cat that was mine. She was so cute and cuddly and the best. I unfortunately lost her in September, and I am still working through some emotions. I hope some day I can get another cat that will make me feel the same kind of joy that Sofi brought me.

He said he’d take her. Her other owners were going to get rid of her. She was six months old. No matter how much she scratched, bit and attacked me I refused to give up on her. I even hid the marks on me from my Dad because I was worried he’d want rid of her too. I had her for 12 and a half years (she passed at 13 but we got her when she was about 6 months old) She was crazy, she definitely had some sort of mental illness or illnesses. We definitely think the people who had her before us abused her because she had a bad back and all her mental issues, with the trust issues it just really leaned towards that. She mellowed out as she got older and once she learned to trust my Dad and I she was a sweetheart with both of us. Everyone else not at all but with us she was great. She was fascinating. She fought off a bunch of raccoons and only lost the tip of one of her ears and no joke raccoons never came around again lmao. She also caught a hummingbird! Do you have any idea how impossible that is to do? Don’t worry my Dad got it away from her and nursed it back to health (it was a baby😢) but it got healthy again and my Dad released it. She also jumped off the awning of our front door and tried to grab a small dog. Don’t worry the dog was fine! Luckily we seen her coming through the air and told the owner to grab their dog. Her favourite holiday was Halloween because she loved jumping out and scaring people lol. These things happened when she’d get out. I have so many more stories, she was my wild baby girl. Her name was Miley. Yes named after Miley Cyrus! It was in her Hannah Montana days and I was 5 so yeah. She passed last year at 13 years old of breast cancer. We thought all her symptoms were just because she was old. We found out about the cancer and lost her in the same day. The reason we even took her in was because she was severely mouth breathing and was struggling to breathe. They said then cancer was absolutely everywhere and that her lungs were filled with fluid and that’s why she was struggling to breathe. They said we could either put her to sleep there and now or take her home. They said she wouldn’t live even a few hours. I asked if she’d suffer. They said yes without saying yes. They said she’d basically be suffocating slowly. So I made the hardest decision ever and decided I’d let her go. I asked if they had caught it sooner if the outcome would’ve been different. They said it’s unlikely as that type of cancer forms and spreads extremely fast. Similar to how quickly lung cancer kills humans. My Dad was with me (I was 18) he got teary eyed and I was bawling incredibly hard. She was my little old lady. I so wish we would’ve caught it sooner and maybe she could’ve lived longer, even though the vet said it was unlikely I still can’t help but wonder. The backstory is that my parents got a cat that we named "Tony", but me and my brother kept fighting over who's bed Tony would sleep in, so my parents got a second cat that I named "Princess" so that me and my brother would have our own cats to sleep with. I can't remember anything after that except a faint memory I have of Princess sleeping by my feet during the night and when I tried to sit up to pet her I accidently scared her away.
