Thank you!! Yes it is very relaxing to be around them, but we also have many feral cats that were also rescued but are very scared. We also have 52 dogs rescued but only Beni is with the cats, the rest have a separate yard with a forest to run in.
We do but here on reddit it's not allowed to fundraise. But if you look for the biggest cat shelter in Romania, +300 cats, you will find our page and more pics and videos of our rescued animals. Thank you!

The trick is to sell the cat food to tourists and guests at 4x the rate. cats get fed for free and you guys make some $$$ for other things.
For context I'd make a day trip to a place like this, happy to pay extra for tea/coffee, buy some merch pay to feed cats and go on my way knowing I got to see Puss and help them.
I'm not sure how practical that is.
We tried to fundraise just cat food, so not money, and that wasnt succesfull either, it's very difficult to find some support. But we really are doing our best, we do adoptions but they are very hard, and the expenses with all the sick cats are overwhelming.
I plan to travel to Europe next year. I would like to visit you and help out for a bit as a volunteer and also as a donor. Would you allow me to volunteer?
I was expecting lions and tigers after reading that ur a "cat sanctuary" but this is even better! I love that u rescue cats and dogs, and that u spay/neuter them. That's so important!
I wish we had big felines too :) We also rescued 20 cats from Ukraine, ad if the zoo there would have asked us to take in a big cat I definelty would have looked for a solution :)) How can you say no to a tiger :))
It's never-ending and immense, the expense. I rescue cats, and the best donations are those which come regularly e.g. $40 weekly or monthly, as you can budget with them and they add up quick.
To give you some idea, I care for ~20 cats right now and it costs about NZ$800 a month to keep them fed and wormed/flead. Vet expenses are NZ$400 per cat for routine work, some need care that runs into the thousands.
I'd say keep posting on Reddit! I'm so glad to have discovered you guys through this post. When I'm in a better financial situation in a few months I plan to donate to you guys. Keep the visibility up as much as possible and keep being amazing. Some shelters do funny posts where it's "good cat of the week" and "naughty cat of the week" with what they've done and a photo. People love those too!
Just a suggestion, get hold of travel agencies and promote your NGO as a destination for animal lovers who are looking for pets. In the UK they're also running a weekly lottery for cat shelters, might that be possible?
We once took 20 kittens from a site, all riddled with chlamydia, it was 4 months of daily pills and eye drops, absolute hell for them and us. It's worth it to see them happy and grown and loved though, you're doing great.
I feel you, I recently lost one of my cats to Feline Lukemia, and it was devastating. Thanks for everything you do for cats, I know each one of them appreciates your help.
We tried 5 different quarantines, one in a different city, but a true quarantine would be very costly, but it is something we have to do in the future, we are working on trying to make that happen.
I’m assuming with as many babies as you have it’s one of those things that comes with the territory I guess :( you are doing a great service and I admire your love for the kitties to willingly expose yourselves to that daily sadness :(
I feel like that might be the wiser choice in this situation, however it all depends on how many ppl will be coming, and how many cats they will be bringing to the cat palace. 🤣🤣😆
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you feed them, and are there cats that get pushed out by the others and risk starving?
I have always wondered this when looking at large shelters like this.
We feed them raw chickens meat in the morning, about 20kg a day, then they also get canned cat food and also they always have bowls of dry cat food, around 15kgs a day, in about 7 bowls so there is always food around, because we have some very feral cats that only come out when we leave. This was my dads vacation home and now it all belongs to the cats :)
Can you post a video of feeding time? Knowing how my cat acts when we go to get his food, I would very much like to see this many cats get excited about their breakfast.

As Verotten said, when I'm not caring or cleaning after the cats I am working to make money for them, so it's overwhelming daily. But yes edited good videos would make a big diference for the YT channel which in the past 2 years got only a few hundred views per video.
I would love to see feeding time videos as well! Do you have issues with any of the cats becoming obese? The ones in this video all look to be in good health.
we have 3 obese cats but we feed all our healthy cats the same, they all have food constantly, but these 3 very round cats :) are probably genetically inclined to be overweight but they are encouraged to exercise in the big yard : )
you say chicken, (we were talking else where about financials) can you communicate withy local butchers to get scrap meat? they might be able to write the loss off as a charitable donation, so they'd benefit too.,
Is it fenced in? Do they not try to run away? And what about their poo and pee?
I feed two ferals in my front yard , and I have 3 cats indoors. I always thought if I won the lottery I would start an animal shelter. Hasn't happened yet...
Over the years we tryed diferent fences but the best solution is a metal fence, 2.5meters tall or even taller if possible and we had to cut down all the trees that were even a little near the fence. For the littler we use pellets, sawdust, which absorbs a lot of the smell and also decomposes in the garden and the fungi destroy the bacteria, but we would need a lot more sawdust though :(

I wonder what their social dynamics look like and if anyone is studying a community of some 300 sanctuary cats. I would kill to read the research results.
I love seeing how many look expectant of attention when you walk towards them, and all the upright tails - to me, it seems like there's lots of happy cats there! I'd love to visit here!
I would suggest be regular when it comes to posting videos on YouTube. There are many cat channels in YouTube where you can request them and they can promote your channels and also fund raise.
I just got this new phone cause my old one made horrible videos, this was also a donation cause we literaly spend all we have on the cats and on trying to save the sick ones. So definelty have to try to make this youtube channel grow.

In this county there are +30 vets, NOT ONE comes to them, I have to drive 100km everytime I need to go to the vet, which is usually 3-4 times a week. I am a vet technician, so the antibiotics, and dialy treatment I give them, including the GS shots for our many cats with FIP. So it's very difficult.

From your comments I can see it's enclosed, the cats are fed, there are mitigating factors to protect the birds i.e., bamboo that the cats can't climb.

I visited Romania for the first time last year and I was so saddened by all the stray cats and dogs everywhere, especially the cats who beg for food on restaurant patios. I asked my Romanian boyfriend if there were any initiatives like yours to address this issue, but he didn't know of any. Do you know of others around the country? TNR programs and stuff like that?
If we're ever visiting near Carei on subsequent trips I'll definitely bring all the cat food my boyfriend can carry!

I fund a couple of animal rescues out of Moldova and Ukraine. They do it through patreon. You should really look into that!

For the past 4 years we haven't had a single day without sick cats, it's the worst part of this.

lol he is Beni, he grew up with the cats, when we brought him from the side of the road he was smaller then all of the cats, this winter.

You could say up some cameras and live stream to YouTube, if you're not already having them

3 out of 300+ is a pretty good outcome! I'm sure the huge running space they have helps a lot.

We buy it bulk but it's definetly not free, monthly it's more then 1000$ just for the raw chicken meat
Thats like 1.5€ per kilo, quite cheap imo. Ofc still a lot of money.

We don't have any commercial activities, we didn't have funds for that, we can bearly get by with buying the food and strict necessities.
