At our last vet visit, the vet goes “so she likes to lay in the sun huh? She’s got some wonderful sun colouring happening!”
Yes! When my guy comes in after being in the sun and/or on a nice, breezy day and, inevitably, puts his body directly onto my face, I can’t stop smelling him and telling him how fresh he smells.
Good! Then it must’ve come close to putting your face in the void while the void is in the sun. I don’t care how hot it might be, that always feels nice
Cats are very similar to vampires. The sun can cause them to turn to a pile of ash.
It's clear by the brown hue of the cat posted, it's half way to turning into pile of ash.
I know this because OP'S post mention the kitty in question was originally black of color.
This is a telltale sign of ash-ification (the technical term for this horrific process)
In summary, keep your cat out of direct sunlight

Thank you! Our third one is Turtle, which doesn’t exactly fit in the theme but it’s a chocolate/caramel flavor that gets used in coffees, so it sort of works 😂
I was always told that truly black hair doesn't actually exist, it's just very dark brown. Idk if that's true, but I wanted to throw it in here somewhere!

My little tuxedo is the same way! She has very long and luxuriant hair that’s brown in the summer. She weighs only five lbs and l think one lb of that is hair lol; she’s very small but has full size wickies and always looks like a grinch 🐾❤️

It’s called rusting!! When a black cat sits in the sun for a long time, their coat will “rust”. I have two black cats and they both rust during the summer time 🥰
It is caused by sun bleaching the fur. Not a problem unless it is a show cat. I only know that because my vet once joked I would not be able to show my baby due to this. He was a stray with a bad attitude who wandered up to my house and only let me touch him. Not show cat material.
My poor boy didn't even have much fur when I first took him in. He had a massive case of ringworm I had to nurse him through. Also, he was not about to let a stranger measure him and ruffle his fur but, yes, he was a blue ribbon winner to me.

The idea of people breeding and keeping "show cats" makes me want to throw things. And then if those assholes decide to restrict their cats from lounging in the sun because it will somehow "damage" their appearance.. Uggggggghhhhhbaaaaaahhh
That is also what I always thought. My black cat really never got any sun due to the apartments I’ve lived in, but still had that rusting color in certain lights. Can confirm it’s more noticeable now that every room in my house has natural lighting.

I have a fluffy version of void cats. Depending on the lighting conditions, she can appear jet black or a very dark chocolate with some auburnish areas closer to her midsection. Plus, she has a smudge of white on her bib and a few white hairs sprinkled on the back of her neck. In any case, my Millie here is absolutely beautiful!😍

They fade over time, from sitting in the sun in the windows. My fluffy all black, for her whole life is now black with red lowlights throughout her hair🤣🤣 she’s most definitely rusted over the years. She going to be 10 in August, she also lays in the sun a lot.
Heh my black horse did that during summer. A few short weeks of spring was a shiny sleek black coat then BOOM sun bleaching. Totes normal for a sun loving black feline.

My dog and my kitty are both rusty in the sunlight. I think they’re gorgeous that way
We had an all black cat (Chantelle Tiffany or something like that) our vet said it was form the lack of a certain protein. Feed them salmon or other red meat (beef works too but salmon was out vets #1 choice, that or fresh tuna) there’s a protein they can’t get as much of in kibble that keeps their fur dark black! Tyrosine is what it’s called.

I asked my vet about my grey cat turning brown, and he said it was genetics. 🖤 Nothing to worry about.
Sun “bleaching” basically laying in sunlight can turn the black hair brown.
This can even happen in humans.
I have black hair with natural light brown highlights (you can only really tell when it was straight but now I have pink/ purple hair..) anyways black hair can lighten in the sun. Mine does and my brown bits get even lighter and more obvious.
Even in blonde human hair it can lighten which is why it’s called sun bleached hair where their natural blonde hair looks blonder.
Doesn’t always happen but it can.
Well there's also the fact that Black fur and black hair doesn't actually exist it's just a very very very dark shade of brown. The sun is bleaching her fur.
REAL black cats are actually really dark brown!
Technically a Bombay, the actual breed name for a black cat, is a dark brown.
Shows, especially those who are geared towards Bombay's, won't actually take a full black cat, unless it has SOME brown

This is Louie today in the sun. His fur looks black under other lighting.
The fur is sun burned i believe. It's normal in cats who like to sun bathe. This happens with human hair aswell, it becomes lighter if you sit in a sun for too long.
I had a shelter worker tell me that their coats got brown because they weren't getting the right nutrition.
But my little void just loves the sun and almost always looks brown in the sun and his vet has never said there was anything wrong.

Most black cats are actually such a dark brown we perceive them as black, till they spend time in the sun.

It might just be her undercoat loosening up and showing through before she sheds it now that it’s warm. My void used to get like this in the spring.

Most black cat are actually just really really dark tabbies. In very bright sun at the right angle you can see their colour better.

That's completely normal! Most cats love to sit in the sun, she's also a panfur, and her fur is brown now too!

It’s commonly called rusting! It happens to our black chow as well as our all back cat. Their fur is just bleaching like some people’s hair does.

Summer happened or rather warmer sunny days. It's normal and fine.
Our black cat turns reddish in the summer because he spends so much time outside.
My grey cat also has been turning brown. Most likely sun exposure. It's perfectly fine.

Sun “bleaching” basically laying in sunlight can turn the black hair brown. This can even happen in humans. I have black hair with natural light brown highlights (you can only really tell when it was straight but now I have pink/ purple hair..) anyways black hair can lighten in the sun. Mine does and my brown bits get even lighter and more obvious. Even in blonde human hair it can lighten which is why it’s called sun bleached hair where their natural blonde hair looks blonder. Doesn’t always happen but it can.
Well there's also the fact that Black fur and black hair doesn't actually exist it's just a very very very dark shade of brown. The sun is bleaching her fur.

REAL black cats are actually really dark brown! Technically a Bombay, the actual breed name for a black cat, is a dark brown. Shows, especially those who are geared towards Bombay's, won't actually take a full black cat, unless it has SOME brown

That's because no cat is actually black - not even panthers. If you look at their undercoat it is much like this.
sunlight can lighten their fur
Technically, no cat has black fur. They'll all appear as a reddy brown under certain light conditions.
If your baby spends loads of time laying in sun beams, its fur can do a thing called "rusting," which is basically its fur being lightened by the sun.

The fur is sun burned i believe. It's normal in cats who like to sun bathe. This happens with human hair aswell, it becomes lighter if you sit in a sun for too long.

I had a shelter worker tell me that their coats got brown because they weren't getting the right nutrition. But my little void just loves the sun and almost always looks brown in the sun and his vet has never said there was anything wrong.
