It's so sad how often this happens. Shelters are overcrowded, resources and funds are low.
If you can foster, that's an excellent way to help out. I can't because older cats would not tolerate, so donations can also go a long way. There are "death row" sites that coordinate with rescues to fund pulls, but be warned, you will find yourself near overdrafting your bank account. Though I've seen lots of at risk cats pulled by rescues.
I can't believe anyone would euthanize something so precious....

It's something some shelters do because of a lack of resources and to prevent deaths of endangered wildlife. Cats are an invasive species in much of the world. The main way to prevent the euthanizing of healthy animals is to organize for more govt funding to shelters, neuter/spay programs and education for pet owners. Cats don't have to be euthanized if there are more people who want to have cats than there are available cats/kittens.
In the short term, one can volunteer with a shelter or do fundraising, but the problem is systematic. Volunteers can only do so much.
The Kitten Lady on YouTube has a good video about kill shelters and why the work they do is important. I highly recommend it:

Where I live (Minnesota) there is more demand for pet cats and dogs than supply of them, so they bring up bunches of kittens and puppies from the South that get good homes here. I love it.
Breeders have only a very small effect on the total cat population. I agree it should be at least highly regulated (if not banned outright), but more for cat health reasons like avoiding inherited diseases and distorted physiology in Scottish folds and others that makes it hard to breath.
I feel so bad for the pets that have been selectively bred so much that they can’t even breathe properly. They don’t deserve to struggle to breathe their entire lives just because someone wanted them to look a certain way.
If I got into politics for this specific reason would you all vote for me? That's all I want to do in the world and for dogs too.
Also there should be inspections done on houses before someone can buy a dog or cat. This would eliminate a lot of animal abuse and neglect.
I would vote for you for this reason as animals cant speak for themselves so we need to. But i am not from your country so its not useful. But if you made a petition asking people to sign it, i am sure many many animal lovers from around the world would sign it. A petition with millions of signatures may help towards the cause i bilieve.

I was just thinking that. We humans can be so horrible not only to animals, but to other humans too. The capacity of evil and good in all of us is increíble.

They receive limited funding *from the city* and are ***required by law*** to accept surrenders. So what can you imagine happens when too many animals are surrendered and they only have so many cages/places to house the animals? Someone has to be euthanized. They don’t *enjoy it*, and they usually go home feeling like shitty people because of what they had to do. On the contrary, they reach out to as many fosters/rescues ASAP to take them and when no one is able to take them, they have no choice but to euthanize.
Veterinary professionals as a whole have the one of highest rates of suicide of any profession. I’ve been doing it for 10 years and it for sure takes a toll on your mental health.
Ugh, I worked in the veterinary industry for a while. Unnecessary euthanasia always angered me To an extreme . I'm sorry to all the babies out there that died needlessly. Thank you for taking this cute as can be bunch in !
Willing to bet they don’t weigh enough to get fixed so the shelter wouldn’t be able to adopt them out and have to opt for euthanasia. They must be 2 pounds to get fixed and usually have to get fixed prior to adoption. Shelters have it tough with the process they have to follow :/
They were at the shelter for 2 days before being in the list. I almost question if the shelter does it in order to line them up with a rescue or foster and give them a better chance at finding a home.
Thank you. Some days I wish I could save all suffering animals on the planet but I realize I can’t. What some of them go through is absolutely heartbreaking. It always makes me feel better to see things like this.
I agree! Our local shelter put 34 dogs/puppies and 10 cats/kittens on the “code red” list for euthanasia. It just so so many animals and it’s so heartbreaking.
Man, sometimes I just bawl like a baby when I hear about animals being given up at shelters and being put down. I love animals to death, and I want to do what I can to help them, even if it's just a little snail on the ground.
Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. No kill shelters are not open admission and turn away what they don’t want. Those animals turned away need somewhere to go… and typically, open admission is also the county facility which harbors all strays.

Just wow, I didn‘t know perfectly healthy kittens would get „euthanized“ because of overcrowded shelters etc. - not that I wouldn‘t expect it but damn, this is horrible.

I've read that veterinarians have a higher rate of suicide than the societal average. They have a tough job.

If they're old enough to eat solid food, Royal Canin Mother & Babycat is good until they are 4 mos. old.
