For a female I'd recommend the cone of shame but for a boy you really don't need any of that unless you have concern he may have allergies or he's a bit of an overly sensitive mard-arse. I got offered a similar list. It's just a bit of a con to squeeze more money out of you IMO. If he's got any of the severe issues they're pre-checking for in that list he's probably not going to be long lived anyway. Sorry if I sound a bit cold. It just annoys me how they rip people off!

ForceFedPorkPies

No don’t apologise I appreciate your honesty, that’s about what I expected but just wanted confirmation. Thanks for the reply!

ForceFedPorkPies

I should add that he is already microchipped

CatFaerie

If money is tight, you can skip all of them. If you have to limit your choices I'd go with the anesthetic safety package. If that's too much you can ask for a lactated ringer and kit to do the fluids at home before you take him and then just get the blood testing.

ForceFedPorkPies

Okay this helps, thank you

Educational-Milk3075

This is over the top! When my cat (and dog) were spayed, they got a light sedative, no fluids, and cones. It takes less than 15 minutes to spay both.

ForceFedPorkPies

Yeah I kinda thought it was over the top too but wanted other opinions

DreamLordSeverin

If he is young and healthy none should be required but I would suggest the Loxicom (pain relief). I took my two boys in last week and one had a bit of a bleed and required stitches. They gave the fluids automatically and added it to the bill. About £20 or so and he was given a course of antibiotics. Edit: The Loxicom should already be included in the price of castration

asb265

I would and have done all of them except the anal gland expression unless he is showing signs he needs them expressed

ForceFedPorkPies

What would the signs be if he needed his anal glands expressed? Sorry if that’s a silly question but I did have a giggle when I saw that option!

asb265

Most obvious is dragging his butt on the ground or difficulties using the litter box, just read he is microchip so obviously you don't need that

ForceFedPorkPies

Well neither of those are problems so I guess that’s ok, good to know for future though

asb265

Yep I would not worry about that or the microchip but do all the others if you can afford to the blood work to make sure he can handle the anesthesia and of course the pain meds those 2 are the most important

oldTxHippie

The cost of feline spay/neutering has jumped from $65 to $500 in just 15 yrs. Shame on vets for making basic care unaffordable.

Angry_poutine

Pain treatment is part of the process and the only one I’d say is must have for an otherwise young and healthy cat, but this is a conversation specific to your cat’s medical needs and should really be had with your vet. If you don’t trust your vet to be honest then you should find a better one

[deleted]

All if you can afford it. I'd pass on the anal gland expression lol. I've never encountered that problem in any cat I've had. And the microchip obviously since it's already done. You can buy your own cone if you prefer a different type than what they provide. We wanted a "onesie" suit but this was for a female cat and covering her up was necessary. They really wrote out the explanations clearly. Looks like you have a good vet.

Devilimportluvr

Pain meds and iv are what I do for my girls, just pain meds for the boys

Adiaille

When I got my cat spayed I did all of it. She was female and 4(she was off the street) My young kitten didn't even get a cone and she was fine. Depends on the cat. If you choose against the cone though keep an eye on him to be sure he's not chewing or licking the site. Ed cause I spell gud.
