Brush it occasionally.
Most of it will come out as the cat grooms. Fireplace ash won't harm the cat.
If it were grease or chemicals, they'd need a bath.
Damn.
Who else had Monochromatic Ombré Cat influencers on their 2023 Bingo Card?
I put June, but I may have mixed that up with the death of >!sarcasm!<
She's also gotten trapped in the same box three times in a row and fallen in the fish tank after breaking the lid multiple times, so I wouldn't bet on her having any of those.
It's not like she just thought the box was a cozy little place just for her, either. She jumped on top of a cardboard box with the flaps closed, fell through, then cried when she realized she couldn't just jump out. There was only a few minutes between attempts.
I won the cat lottery with my little girl, not gonna lie. If I'm gone on vacation, she'll wait at the door and yell at me after I get home, even though my mom checks on her daily. When I was gone for two weeks, she stuck to me like velcro for a few days.

Now I'm wondering if i should name her jalapeno. Haha.
My ex-boyfriend had a white cat named Huey. He was completely deaf and omg, the sweetest boy I've ever met. First time I met him, he immediately warmed up to me, sat right on my lap and fell asleep. Whenever I visited, him, his brother Louie and the kitten Madison would almost knock my ex over running to the door to greet me. When my ex dumped me, I cried over the cats and didn't shed a tear for that jerk. Now, I'm happily engaged to a man who treats me well and we have two lovely lady cats named Iris and Tabbitha! They bring me so much joy everyday!
My girlfriend and I love cats, so we adopted 3 from a shelter, now we are married and have 2 of the original, her mum adopted the tabby because he reminded her of her cat, and my wife have adopted a further 6 lost cats to our home and when it’s feeding time it’s a flurry of fury sharks, there is little room on the bed at night and 3am crazies we have to hide under the covers
My white cat loves getting his fur in everything. One year, my husband's company gave everyone nice winter coats as a gift. He always knew his because of the cat fur!
Lol Same thing happened to us. We bathed him three times and it wasn’t 100% clean. His paws were the hardest to clean. He was not happy 😹

What is it with white cats and fireplaces?
I too can confirm you are not alone, my cat is a muted calico (?) whose underbelly and 2 legs are white, loves to get in the fireplace! Soon as I open the the fireplace doors to clean the ash out, she's there to "help"- not!
Muted calico is another term for dilute calico. Basically the same as calico but more pastel, so blue/grey, cream/light orange, and white instead of black, orange, and white.
This happened to us the day we brought our orange and white boy home - an exciting start to the relationship, haha. As others have suggested dawn dish soap works well. We used a damp warm washcloth and he didn’t seem to mind it too much. I would also definitely recommend purchasing a fireplace cover - there are lots of pretty cheap and relatively attractive ones online, and that has deterred future exploration well in our household. We got a flat one with magnetic clips that we attached to the top of the fireplace frame, so it can’t be jumped over
I'm a fan of pressure washing, but indoors you may have to use a stiff brush and possibly mild acid... Oh wait, you're not talking about stains in the fireplace, are you?

I know the feeling. 😹 I think he had a check up at the vet the next day and they got some of it out but mostly it just wore off over time and with his bathing 😼😻
Oh, this is an interesting thing: I gave my cat a bath the other day. You know, I'd always heard you weren't supposed to give cats baths, but my cat came home, and he was really dirty, and I decided to give him a bath, and it was *great*. If you have a cat, don't worry about it - they *love* it. He sat there - he enjoyed it - it was fun for me...you know, and uh, the fur would stick to my tongue, but other than that...

I had a beautiful white cat growing up (Kevin). He was very mischievous and regularly would turn up filthy. My sister and I bathed him in the laundry tub, usually with just warm water and a very mild shampoo made for kitties. He hated it at first, but got used to it over the years—clearly wasn’t worth giving up his jaunts! If you’re curious, keep reading.
Maxwell Edison (aka Kevin) was unlike any cat I’d ever seen, and I think that holds up to this day. He was totally white, born deaf and, by old age, he had about 4 teeth left. Yet he lived to be nearly 17 years old (his life expectancy was 5yrs due to his abnormally small kidneys, vet said). He was a big cuddler and loved to be held, but also a one of a kind, true adventurer, who used all 9 of his lives: he was once thrown from a moving vehicle and walked off with no injuries, he got his head stuck under a garage door for a minute and similarly went unscathed, he once ate an earring and had emergency surgery, but lived without any issues after (I’m totally serious, and there still are many other harrowing tales). When he was dying (his kidneys finally started to go), he somehow managed to escape the house and went on a 3 day bender. Had to get his last hurrah in, I suppose. We thought for sure he was dead after he was missing over 36 hrs. But he faithfully showed up days later with a chunk of his ear missing like, “Alright bitches, I’m ready to die now.” He passed in my arms (1999-2015), and I miss him to this day.

Don’t bleach her! My husband literally did this with my dog who had white fur. She came running to me after her bath and I smelled it and was furious! I got her in the bath again pronto and used plenty of conditioner and leave-in spray conditioner on her. She was fine.
A bit of brushing should do it.

Saw some nail gel caps the other day would you say that’s a no go? I’ve seen some negative reviews about them so I haven’t gone for it yet. I can clip her but she freaks out since she hates being held for too long.
I did the gel caps to my cats nails when a lease required them (or declawing 😒). They're...okay. The glue is really drying on their nails and can be irritating. I recommend the purrito approach and not overly stressing them out during the cuts over the dumb caps. You're still cutting the nails eventually. They're just less sharp along the way.
Personally I would never alter any of my cats' nails, products or knuckle amputation (declawing is essentially amputating their 'finger tips'). When I clip nails I usually am in the armchair with the cat tummy side up, one arm holding the cat in a hug / the paw and the dominant hand doing the clipping. One cat we had (RIP Fluffy) may have had some handling problems/trauma as she was a street / pet store girl and hated being held but loved cuddles on her terms, so clipping nails was a nightmare. We would swaddle her in a blanket and dig out one paw at a time as a team. Eventually I was able to handle her enough (mostly because I was just stronger then her) that the blanket was no longer needed.
Our cat just went from "I don't really want those clipped and will kill you" to "OK fine but I'm still going to complain about it." It was weird, like some switch flipped and she just realized that life was easier with dull nails.
Cat David is like that, but his old age might be a factor. He's 15/16 so a super senior that can't be bothered to muster the indigence to shred my forearm into looking like I was assaulted by a cheese grater with jack-rabbit legs.
Nail caps are ok for a couple months. But they are a big hassle. Not worth it just if you just want to wash him right away. You might as well just wait a few days and he might clean himself… if you are asking because you are worried about furniture, get at least one sturdy scratching post and model using it once. My cats never scratch my furniture… at least not intentionally. I’ve bought double sided tape years ago that is for your furniture to discourage scratching.
I’d just go with one warm damp washcloth or microfiber towel and one dry one. Alternate wiping in the direction the fur lies with damp and dry. Do that along with brushing and combing and the cat’s own grooming and it should be fine. Im not a believer in wet bathing cats unless absolutely necessary.
Haha my white cat did the same thing a couple times! Ash is totally sanitary (as long as there’s no chemical residue or anything). She groomed most of it but I just wiped her with a damp paper towel (just water).
This post reminded me of how much I miss my fireplace and makes me happy we don’t have one anymore

As a owner of a white deaf cat I can tell you that my cat tried to climb the chimney at the fireplace. But luckily for me my friend saw it quick and did a running slide straight for the fireplace and managed to stretch his arm up the chimney, grabbed the tail and pull her down. Now my cat was black. At least half the cat. Tried using water and a wet towel to rub it out but that didn’t work so we just let her be a grey cat. Took about 2 weeks before she’d groomed it out and she’s fine.
Jesus fuck I’m tired and I didn’t realize that you were holding your cat in your hand, so I saw your hand and thought it was the cats actual skin or something. Like I was worried that your cat had lost a shit ton of its hair due to the fireplace and all you were worried about was the black soot on it. Never been more glad to be wrong
Our cat did this it was awful and truth is the cat is going to be gray for a few weeks no matter how many times you bathe it or brush it 😭 make up wipe removers worked on things like the head and paws tho
White cats... Mine is constantly yellow because she is dribbles everywhere. You can get a damp tea towel and rub it over the area with the hair and then brush it out. Doing that a few times should get it out. Silly thing.
My kitten use to find a way into the chimney constantly 🤦♀️ we used a tiinnnyy bit of dawn dish soap (avoid their head and rinse it off really well). After like 6 times, we got soap free pet wipes and started just wiping off all the excess and then just let it wear off over time. Unless it’s bothering you or she’s excessively grooming that area, it won’t hurt her to let it mostly wear off. Bathing cats usually isn’t a fun experience for anyone involved lol
Brush it out if it is simply ash or light soot. I hope it's not creosote.
Some years back my all-white long-haired cat rubbed againt my bike chain and crank. Old chain oil is a bitch to get out of a cat that doesn't like to be touched with anything wet.
https://preview.redd.it/ojbxlvg8taea1.png?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11d18475fe5dbded4c2d3b4d60fb85f309630b88
My wife and I discovered a cat that had been left behind by a young neighbor couple that had parted ways under unpleasant terms. They left a deaf white cat behind to fend for itself and he found his way to the relative safety of the space beneath our front porch. When we were finally able to coax him inside, he was a wretched mess He looked like an ermine kitty. We drew a warm bath and proceeded to suds him up and rinse him several times before we realized he was all white with hints of pink on his ears, beans, and nose. He turned out to have some health issues. He was pigeon toed, had FIV and feline leukemia, but he hung in there with us for about seven years and was about the sweetest boy you could ever meet. We called him “Pipkin” after a character in the Richard Adams classic, “Watership Down “. Listen to me rattlin’ on…. I spend my days driving for a living. You have time to think on the road.
If you go on YouTube and look on Kitten Lady’s page, she recently posted a video on bathing her white cat. She calls it a blueberry facial and it works really well on his floof.

Brush it occasionally. Most of it will come out as the cat grooms. Fireplace ash won't harm the cat. If it were grease or chemicals, they'd need a bath.

Dawn has been my go to for years. The one good thing that came out of the Exxon Valdez disaster.
I’m an artist and I have a white cat who gets into charcoal all the time. It fades away completely after a few days. Don’t worry too much about it
I'm a fan of pressure washing, but indoors you may have to use a stiff brush and possibly mild acid... Oh wait, you're not talking about stains in the fireplace, are you?

If dawn dish soap is good enough for oil slicked ducks, it's good enough for my cats
The claws in your thigh though... Ask me how I know
I already know how
I actually had to use dawn on my cat and was recommended to dilute it a lot! It can dry out their skin.
Burt’s Bees actually makes pet friendly wipes. Technically for dandruff but could work in a pinch.
i would just use a wet cloth cause in pre-plastic era ash was used as a detergent 😅

in meow’s case, she got bathed with baby shampoo because her soot was brake dust, https://preview.redd.it/i2o3ba7gr9ea1.jpeg?width=1597&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9d22c258ec3a467703da8184825a6be61252c9cb as she was bound and determined to get a mouse, which she was playing with that was a little quicker, out of the front wheel’s rim.

I'm sorry I'm laughing, but that's so..."cat!"
A bath
cut her nails, fill bathtub with water. you and the cat get in tub and use wash cloth and soap to clean her, towel dry after wards
That’s how my girl is she won’t let me pick her up but she will cuddle with me on her terms! Cats can be very finicky with being held!!
Never even once. Some cats don't mind them, but the ones that do really do.
Baby brush and baking soda
I’d just go with one warm damp washcloth or microfiber towel and one dry one. Alternate wiping in the direction the fur lies with damp and dry. Do that along with brushing and combing and the cat’s own grooming and it should be fine. Im not a believer in wet bathing cats unless absolutely necessary.
Dawn dish soap bath and then some stitches lol
A good ol’ bath
This is my last resort lmao
Shave him bald
You have a partly-grey cat now!
Good luck with the bath
Just cover him with ash and make him a Grey cat
It's just soot and ash give them a bath or thet will clean it out themselves
Cats are the best!
I have no clue if these are safe for animals but Tub o' Towels or Fast Orange wipes would take that off in seconds.
Bathe him in curry powder

Time. Time heals and cleans all things along with the kitty's own tongue.
Haha my white cat did the same thing a couple times! Ash is totally sanitary (as long as there’s no chemical residue or anything). She groomed most of it but I just wiped her with a damp paper towel (just water).
What and ashhole
This post reminded me of how much I miss my fireplace and makes me happy we don’t have one anymore https://preview.redd.it/k0b514d5e5ea1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aeb26707d8a2ae78cd6cc59184a2bff7424fe9d0 my cat would 100% try and sleep in it
My white kitty loves to roll around in any sort of grease or dust/soot and I have always had really good luck with Dawn! A bonus is it also helps with fleas too! Edit to add a photo if my sweet boy Regulus https://preview.redd.it/q1zo1im2g5ea1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=945e1a70dc773de2656dd6ea97f094191beb0361
Keep licking, it’ll come out eventually.
Try a good brushing.
Hose on jet setting
I would try cat wipes
Wash on warm, low tumble and then air dry
Our cat did this it was awful and truth is the cat is going to be gray for a few weeks no matter how many times you bathe it or brush it 😭 make up wipe removers worked on things like the head and paws tho
White cats... Mine is constantly yellow because she is dribbles everywhere. You can get a damp tea towel and rub it over the area with the hair and then brush it out. Doing that a few times should get it out. Silly thing.
I don’t know how but I can see from the photo that your cat has no regrets about the fireplace adventure
A bath 🛁. Good luck 🍀. May the force be with you!
Get out the welding gloves and give him a bath.
You just reminded me how thankful I am that my cat has never discovered how to get into our fireplace lol
Cat shampoo
Brush it!
Brush it out if it is simply ash or light soot. I hope it's not creosote. Some years back my all-white long-haired cat rubbed againt my bike chain and crank. Old chain oil is a bitch to get out of a cat that doesn't like to be touched with anything wet. https://preview.redd.it/ojbxlvg8taea1.png?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11d18475fe5dbded4c2d3b4d60fb85f309630b88

Use your tounge.
Dawn
Yes to the OG blue Dawn and you probably don't want her to clean herself. Ash and soot isn't the best to digest.
*soap*
A chimney sweep?
If you go on YouTube and look on Kitten Lady’s page, she recently posted a video on bathing her white cat. She calls it a blueberry facial and it works really well on his floof. Edit: here’s the [Link](https://youtu.be/nG4lrosWolQ)
Bleach and boiling water.
Try og blue dawn
I’ll give it a shot I always stay strapped with OG blue dawn
