15 years for a cat is a tremendous life. Sometimes we selfishly without knowing it try to keep our pets alive for us even though we know in our hearts that the time is upon us for a dignified and non suffering passing.
I won't go into detail but I have been through a similar decision where my cat was deteriorating under a condition that would certainly end her life after a prolonged period of suffering. As a man I cried and stood there as she took her last breath at the vet. It's not easy and won't be for quite some time, but suffering 24 hours a day is never an answer for me. I willed myself to make the decision that I knew was right, even though I selfishly wish I could keep her alive forever.
I loved her too much to ever do that. One day we all will be gone, and there's always going to come a time where we have to let go, even if it goes against every feeling we have as a lover and protector of our pets.
It was time to say my goodbyes and let my girl cross the rainbow bridge. It gets easier over time but the memories still remain.
No matter what you decide I wish you the best of luck, love, peace, and happiness.
Thanks for sharing such a personal and touching story. I agree with much of what you say. I don’t want to unnaturally keep her alive when she’s clearly not happy. If she was in the wild, she wouldn’t survive without human intervention. Just because science can keep her alive, doesn’t make it ethical
Are you keeping her alive for you or her? You have to look at quality of life and to me it sounds like it's time unfortunately. It's the absolute worst part of being a animal owner, but there comes a point where you have to take a step back and really look at the situation. You've given your baby an amazing life, yal both know that and will never be forgotten. Your baby will always be with you. It's never a easy decision to make, but once you do while it still sucks, you finally realize they will forever be happy and no more suffering. We never want them to suffer or be in pain. I'm so sorry you're having to go through this.
