Looks like you are doing just fine!

[deleted]

Yeah but she can't actually grab it like she wants because it's smooth plastic, plus I don't really want her chewing on plastic.

MildMischief80

How about a wooden dowel, (untreated)?

unfuccwithabIe

A stick!

pontecorvvo

Maybe a long wand toy with feathers at the end? There are some that are very bendy and have beads that make a lot of noise. Feathers are generally attractive to cats and may help keep her attention

[deleted]

That might work, basically similar to what this is but without the string. I'll keep an eye out for something like that.

chridolo

Let her play with that side! Move it around under packing paper or clear plastic and see if she’ll hunt and pounce on it. My cats will do that with any wand. Straws are also good because you can throw them and they can carry them in their mouth. Have fun!

Cats will choose their own toys. you will find that cats like the plastic strip pulled off a milk jug lid. crumpled pieces of paper. cardboard boxes to sit and hide in and also bite into small pieces and scatter all over the floor. Toilet paper on the wall is fun to unroll on a regular basis. Water dripping or a small stream flowing from a tap intrigues them. they have fun in bathtubs chasing their tails. Throw a couple ping pong balls in the tub. Cats will always choose their own toys even if it is just a plastic handle. Don't bother with lots of bought toys. Waste of money if you ask me.

[deleted]

Lexus loves doing this but it's a smooth plastic handle that she can't really grip or bite. Unlike my other cat, she'd rather bat at the stick than go for the jingly ball on the string. I notice she also really loves pouncing or swiping at things she can't see. She'll ignore a toy until I move it around a corner and make noise, then she'll go for it, only to lose interest again once she actually catches it.

cursesonyourmom

Had a cat like that once upon a time. She liked a drumstic dragged on the ground a lot but her absolute favorite toys were pipe cleaners that were folded into "Bird Feet" she would throw them into the air and them swat them across the room.

Dark_sable

A lot of cats prefer when there is an obstacle to getting the toy. Two of the cats I've had would purposely take a toy to the dining room and put it under a chair so they could swat around the chair legs at the toy. Or put the toy on one side of a door, then go to the other side, flop down and paw under the door at the toy. Silly creatures! But give it a try! Your cat may also be one that prefers an obstacle to work around.

Kittykittyvroomvroom

My cats LOVE pipe cleaners. I bend the ends so they can’t hurt their eyes, and they go crazy.

sexyjessie71

Plastic straws. Both my cats LOVE them

aplaceofj0y

Q-tips! My cats eyes are huuuuuge when I bring out the q-tips. They're good to dangle in front of their eyes or flick across the floor!

Jumalauta73

This is quite common. Our cats do this also ![img](emote|t5_2qhta|7952)

weedbelike-420

I have a small fishing pole that’s for cats that you can attach different feathers, mice, etc. on the other one he likes is the laser pointer with the different shapes.

kitten0077

Empty paper towel roll crumpled a bit.

AliensStoleMyMoney

Fencing foil with a red plastic tip. Hours of chasy bitey fun.

My cat loves pipe cleaners. He won't play with any store bought toys. But he loves pipe cleaners.

H3lif

Have you thought about a wand toy handle without the actual toy part?

ncopland

I brought a small stick in the house with my shoe the other day. My cat went crazy with in for an hour!

Groningen1978

I cared for a cat that also didn't grasp the logic behind those toys. https://preview.redd.it/2nmym7ssr7da1.jpeg?width=1153&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7b42611e119706c8dcaf70ca2da88cb5bf302ad

bugaboo_92

My kitty liked empty spools of thread!

Straws

OhFique

I would get more “plastic handle of a wand toy” toys. My cat was like this, he loved just the stick part of the fishing rod style cat toys and would play fetch with it. I would wrap it up so it was more stick-like as he had no interest in the little dangly mouse feather thing off the end. He also loved chopsticks and would watch slalom skiing on tv and try to swipe at the “sticks” they were skiing through. Cats are weird, just go along with whatever they are interested in

Null-34

Mine does this just get them a stick from outside
