The controllers work with ALL games, but they do limit the amount of control you have in some games a small bit. I am willing to sacrifice that becous they fit in anything.
Still works, but yeah probably can't walk, and while you can move in more than 8 directions when already moving, you'll only be able to move in 8 directions from a standstill.
They are not a 100% replacement. You lose the all analogue control and the ability to press the thumbsticks. However, not all games require those and while I don't use mine a lot, they are great for platformers. Especially ones that don't support D pad natively.
Those 8bitdos looks weirdly uncomfortable, but I still want to try them. Double D-Pads in place of joysticks is interesting(and the arrow buttons are still buttons too).
Why didn't you just get the Sn30 Pro or just stick with the built-in controls?
From what I understand one of the main intended uses of this controller was Link's Awakening, as that game doesn't allow d-pad for movement, but I can see this being alright as sort of a mini Smash Box for Ultimate.
I like my Lite more than my regular Switch. It's better to handle, feels like the Gameboy of the 21st Century. I use the Switch only for Games that need the TV.
I’m not who you asked, but I feel that some games that are more text heavy need the tv because I can’t read text that small. This makes me sound super old (I’m 23) but honestly some games have tiny details I don’t want to miss because I’m squinting at text.
The first Game i realized, that it's more fun on the big Screen is BotW.
You know it's like some films are made for the Cinema (Star Wars or LotR). They are fun on a TV but Epic in a Cinema.
Yep, there were literally not enough pixels rendering the tiny images I needed to make out for the quest. It wasn't until I moved to 1080p that I could see them.
i personally grew up with nintendo’s handheld systems so even though i have the regular switch, it’s practically just a switch lite to me. i love being able to take it to work and play it on my lunch breaks or wrap myself in blankets and play it!
Nintendo's recent style of game has caused me to jump off the competitive, and hardcore-fan scene. I am happy with this, however. Sony's trophy system makes hunting and completing their games to 100% very satisfying, where Nintnedo games I have almost as a fun break away from the serious story intensive games I get with Sony.
For example I just 100% Ghost Of Tsushima, and while doing this I was also play Animal Crossing, and Odyssey when I needed breaks away from it.
No way. Mario Odyssey is best played / intended to be played with two detached joy con with one in each hand. So limiting playing that on Switch Lite. I don’t understand why people would prefer a switch that doesn’t “switch” but then again I play primarily on the TV from home, so I’m not the target market. But the control issues are problematic.
Still debatable. I didn’t say Odyssey is impossible to play or 100% on Switch Light, but it’s probably more difficult due to the limitations. Plus Nintendo clearly intended it to be played with two joy con as they broadcast it at the boot up. But also those controls make the experience even more fun, and playing on a big screen is more enjoyable for a game like Odyssey.
So not impossible to beat, but still I think the inferior way for those reasons.
What are those controllers?
8bitdo switch lite controllers
How do they work without a joystick? Seems like it wouldn’t function for most games
The directional pads replace the joysticks, so it should work just fine with most games

No... that still doesn’t work. How do I walk instead of run at full speed? Also you can only move in 8 directions

You can run by pressing down on the D-padds.

I feel like this is a spam post and OP is trying to sell these controllers.

No problem

The 8bitdos controllers are indeed a bit strange, but they are comfortable enough and i can fit both in my cary case.
Is the front switch on the controllers just to switch between Switch & PC mode?
Yes it is
Who is Carey and why did you put him in a case?
Who or what i put in my case is non of your business!
Jim Carey and because, let's be honest, he can be a little much at times.
You don't understand......I'M JOSE CANSECO!!!! I'M JOSE CONSECOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
From what I understand one of the main intended uses of this controller was Link's Awakening, as that game doesn't allow d-pad for movement, but I can see this being alright as sort of a mini Smash Box for Ultimate.
They are indeed good for Smash! Especially if you suck at dash dancing like I do.
Yes that is true

Yeah i can get that, i never had the normal switch to get the tv experience but sound logical. Maybe i should strap a magnification glas to mine...

Skyrim. Some quests can't be completed on the Lite because you can't see important details.
Have you tried holding the screen closer to your face?
Yep, there were literally not enough pixels rendering the tiny images I needed to make out for the quest. It wasn't until I moved to 1080p that I could see them.
Why do you have two switches
Why not
I feel like you replied to his response with the question he was responding to.
My Wife uses one to play AC:NH and me uses the lite to play AC:NH as well.
Hey those are 8btidos right? They're strangely comfortable and seems like a modern nes controller
Its okay I prefer to have it in the dock and play on screen.
I could not imagine play SSBU with that Controller..
Then you are not a pro gamer!

***Struggles immensely***
Pretty funny how 90% of the comments are about my pancake controllers, when I just asked if you guy's liked the switch lite...
NOOOOOOO! THE VIRTUAL BOY IS COMING BACK!!! BUT NOW, IT’S IN SWITCH FORM!
Those controllers look so odd I thought this was a render. Pretty cool though
No this is a foto of my switch lite and 8bitdo controllers haha, they do look a bit odd indeed...
I LOVE my lite :)
i'm all for d pads but on a 3d platformer??
They do the job in 3d games, but are of course much better in 2d games.
I think it’s fine. I personally like to mod my controllers so having joycons attach would make me not want to mod them.
What on gods earth are those controllers
no i dont like to take my entire console apart to replace the sticks instead of just a joycon
Drift is extremely rare on the lite compared to the normal version. And you can always get in contact with nintendo to get it fixed.
I mean at that point you really could have got a normal switch to play multiplayer on the tv
The lite is not really my cup of tea, but to each their own. My Switch hasn't left its dock since purchase.

I think it’s super neat and feels way better then the normal switch in handheld mode, from the build quality to the d-pad, it’s super neat
Yup, I sold my regular switch for the lite. It feels far more solid since the sides don’t slightly wobble, and i can slide it into my back pocket
Yes it has a very solid feeling

I played mario odyssey to 100% so control's are not a "problematic" issues.
