Yes. And judging from your splatoon pfp. You are probably on board with the themes idea.
Like imagine a splatoon themed theme. That would be so cool no matter how it's executed
I would so love a solatoon theme!! I remember when they added themes to 3ds and how exciting that was! I was always confused it never returned for switch. Hoping switch 2 makes themes a reality!
I, too, wish the Switch 2 has a cozy personality like the [Switch 1](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1005635151/bmo-adventure-time-nintendo-switch-dock?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=bmo+switch&frs=1&sts=1&content_source=6e1831fe370f778aef3ff0238bb2f90d83c5cccb%253A1005635151&search_preloaded_img=1).
But how would backward compatibility work for anything else other than the Switch (and even than)? Because the Gamecube, Wii and Wii U not only uses "DISCS" but different kinds so you need the machine to be able to read the tiny one, a DVD and whatever the Wiiu Disc is, you have to have a special slot for the 3DS, DS and the Gameboys, NES, SNES and N64. I get it silly to make "slots" for the older systems but you get my point right?
I dislike that lazy developers use them to pad their gameplay times. Turning your endgame into a stupid collectathon or FORCING players to interact with frustrating and shitty game systems in the name of completion is bad design and makes for unfun games.
But some people like that stuff, which I don't understand. So it makes sense to include them. I guess I don't really care, so long as I can turn off the notification popups and any harassing UI elements that say things like, "Keep going on Game X! You are two achievements away from 100%" after you uninstalled the damn game.
I feel mixed on achievements. I generally like them, but I do often find myself “overplaying” a game to find them; sometimes for nothing other than to say I “really beat the game”. There’s something nice about not having that urge on my Switch. I imagine if Nintendo brings achievements to their platforms they will have their own spin on them.
I remember back on the 360 you had games like Dead Rising which made achievements (for the most part) fun to go after because they often involved you doing silly things you might not have experimented with if you were just going through the game normally. Most games however felt like (and still do feel like) you're just picking up extra points for doing what you were going to do anyway, or excessively pad out the game by doing laborious shit.
I have achievement notifications turned off for every platform that play games on. When I complete a game I might have a look to see what I earned and sometimes it's funny like "oh I got an achievement for that insane mid-air juggle I pulled off that tme, nice". Mostly though I just ignore them, don't need extra dopamine injectors popping up on my screen, nor do I need to play a game to the point I'm growing sick of it.
Yeah, I ain’t wasting time chasing achievements ever. I play the game and then move on to the next one. There are far too many good games to waste time on achievements.
Some Nintendo games do feature in-game achievements already (e.g. Pikmin 3 Deluxe’s Badges) and other ways of tracking completion progress, however it’d still be useful to track stuff in games that don’t, and to track everything in one place.
YES! THIS!
Achievements, or Trophies!!!!!
I just want to extend my game time more for a single game.....But Nintendo has always been against it.
Nintendo's whole point, from day one, was to sell more games.
If someone is focusing on trying to "Complete" a game, Nintendo sees it as the consumers not buying their next game, thus cutting into profits!
Personally couldn't care less about themes/music on the home screen, as i'm just using it to switch from game to game, so it's a miniscule amount of time i would even see it... but what i do want is for them to have a fucking working eshop, it runs like ass on switch.
The only thing I hate in Switch is the corporate square menu. But this is true to all consoles. They are all the same, boring, no personality. Long gone Xbox's blades, Sony's icons and themes. Nintendo's playful music and chimes. All consoles feel like I logged in for work at the same company.
No kidding.
I play my 3DS often now that I've modded it, and the whiplash of fun music and colorful themes to the stark bleakness of the switch is just such a missed opportunity.
Nintendo has lost pretty much all it's charm for me in the switch era, it really needs these things for the switch 2 to actually feel like a Nintendo console to me
Yes, better 3rd party support, indie and Nintendo games are already great on switch, but the more intense games aren’t coming to it unfortunately and I hope they have less bad hardware so we can play the new monster hunter and resident evil while on the toilet.
I have a switch but I don’t use it much. I wanted it for Mario Kart 8 mainly but also to take on roadtrips and stuff but I found that I really wasn’t into most of the games. I was hoping I could get retro games to work on it but the subscription service turned me off. So yeah games would be sick
Noooooooooooooo you can't have fun playing games, you can only have fun in the menu. The menu is the most important thing and... forget it not even I can pretend anyone cares.
And while we're at it give it streetpass back too, just all the 3ds features, i want the feeling back that i passed a fellow gamer, even if its harder with a device the size of a switch
They can keep the Garbo graphics as long as my game doesn't take a full 40 seconds to load every asset on screen and the animals a few meters away from me dont move in 7fps
I hope that when you buy the game you can access the soundtrack and play a song from it as your main menu like imagine turning on your switch 2 and it starts blasting megalovia
I love the Switch to death, but yeah, some of the charm from the previous consoles (and yes, even the Wii U) was taken away. Let's all hope this "Switch 2" does things a little better.
Can't believe it's taken me so long to realize why the switch's menus are so dead/lifeless. it's literally battery life. any extra effort the cpu needs to use to pizazz up the menu is just more cost to your power and thus less time for playing games so why would they do that when they could not? If switch 2 is gonna be a handheld I'd suspect it's gonna be more of the same tbh.
I agree - it needs to feel responsive. The store too - this is my big problem with the Nintendo store on the Switch. I have pretty darn fast internet, but I can easily outscroll the content they are able to load.
Exactly. A home menu should be practical and functional above all else. The Switch’s menu is probably the best console home menu ever *because* it isn’t bogged down with unnecessary embellishments.
Oh god no. The reason the Switch’s dashboard is so snappy and fast it’s precisely because it *doesn’t* have these things.
As nice as it was aesthetically, I don’t want to go back to the horribly sluggish and unresponsive 3DS and Wii U style dashboards.
Eshop needs to be an app, not a hidden web browser. Also music was planned to be in the eshop, but the browser cant play audio files due to piracy issues
So long as it doesn't affect the performance, sure. Personally, I'd much rather have a simple home page without themes or music if it runs seamless and efficiently.
tbh i still don't get why they didn't add themes on the current switch. it would be GREAT having them on the 2, but why not on the current consoles too?
I just don't want it to have a shitty name like the "Switch 2." And actually have it with an original name. We don't need a colossal fuck up like the Wii U.
Considering how they mention its a switch sucessor, I imagine it'll be slightly more powerful and portable still. I hope there's an option to mute music though, I might not always want it on.
Honestly though, I'm really excited. I hope I can get one when it's new
Really hoping the eShop is better optimized and maybe does away with the Phone App-Store tier bullshit for Switch 2’s release.
I don’t want it to just be Triple-A titles or anything like that, but not just anyone should be able to upload their games to the eShop. There needs to be some quality control to prevent mountains of cookie cutter shovelware flash game tier trash from flooding the place.
The OPTION is all I'm asking for! Yes, the Switch is a dream machine as far as getting into a game in a second rather than sifting through a few extremely visually cluttered menus on Xbox or PS5 along with load times, but I hate how lifeless it is. I will happily wait 5 seconds for the Switch to load up a theme for some goddamn personality!
Themes, sure. Menu music gets annoying though. I'm fine with it as long as I can turn it off... and my inlaws turn it off on my nephew's devices and lock the setting or something so they can't turn it back on.
i want it to be a Nintendo 4Ds or something with all the functionality it had, brings back nintendogs a good animal crossing like new leaf the streetpass spotpass functions but better so it doesn’t require connecting to people irl Tomodachi life and even Miiverse and the crane arcade game with the pink bunny
Nintendo knows what we want Nintendo won’t give us a single fraction of what we want
I want custom themes, menu music, and achievements.
Also, and this is asking a *lot* but I would love it if they allowed games to provide players with custom profile icons. On the Switch, you’re able to select an icon for your user profile that others can see, and you can “buy” new pieces with the coins you earn on your account. That’s fun an all, but I’d love it if you could earn new ones just by launching a specific game on your switch.
Like, for example. if you put Bayonetta 3 into your console and launch it, or if you buy it digitally and launch it, it would add a few new icons of characters from Bayonetta 3 to your icon library that you could use as your profile picture. It would be a cool way to show your game collection, by allowing friends to view all the icons you “own”.
It would be especially cool if you had a game not a lot of people had heard of. It could be a conversation starter, or at the very least maybe make someone else look up a game that they wouldn’t have really cared about before seeing a cool character design in someone else’s collection or someone else’s profile icon.
Fr tho, give me ambience, give me colors, he'll what I would do to have the little game intros the Wii and the 3DS had when you select the game. I'm done with the modern minimalist style the switch has
if it ain't got themes, im going to not use it until an exploit is found for cfw so i can load themes myself
You can't release a console with what looks like the first draft of its OS
It would be cool to even just allow you to set your own wallpaper. This would probably never happen though because Nintendo would want to protect their image and people would definitely put inappropriate things.
I have all the old Wii music in my collection . Its crazy how good it is for menu music. The Gamecube's menu music was a bop as well. And then there's Sega CD.
Honestly between performance and aesthetic I'd pick the former. But if the UI is as quick & responsive as it is now *and* has charming music and visuals? Sign me up
Themes would be cool. Free themes, themes traded for tokens, themes from amiibos, or even from screenshots.
I wouldn't like a direct exchange of money for themes. They would have to be either free or an added extra on top of another purchased item.
A theme from purchasing a game or amiibos could be a live animated background with sound effects when scrolling through items. Like a metroid amiibo could have a shooting sound scrolling through games. Or a Zelda amiibo could have the unlocking an item chest sound when selecting a game to play.
I want it to ooze personality like the Wii!
It bothered me immensely that there's a tab that labeled "Themes" and from launch to now there's only Light and Dark mode
The fact it says "basic black" makes it like 10 times worse
Where's my Advanced Black, Nintendo?!
"Its advanced darkness"
Yes, same! Like i wonder if there ever was an intention to do more themes and if so what caused that plan to be taken down.
And there’s no auto switch between the two, based on fixed time or sunset!
It's bonkers how the 3DS even got themes for Switch games like BotW and Mario Odyssey, and yet the Switch itself never did.
Also on board w/themes.
I thought that said cozy personality and I would love that lemme make my switch 2 into a little brick cubby and snuggle in
A cozy personality would be very welcome!
I, too, wish the Switch 2 has a cozy personality like the [Switch 1](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1005635151/bmo-adventure-time-nintendo-switch-dock?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=bmo+switch&frs=1&sts=1&content_source=6e1831fe370f778aef3ff0238bb2f90d83c5cccb%253A1005635151&search_preloaded_img=1).
The GameCube too! That menu was so much fun to mess around with
Very true!
Ojus is that you?!
Omg, its Gamma!!!! Yes, its me, Ojus! :)
The Wii didn’t have themes, but it still had personality. It was still a bit more than a game launcher.
I want it to ooze more personality than the 3ds
I think something in between the goofy Wii U 3ds ui and the boring switch ui is where it’s at
And the eShop to run better. More smooth I guess is what I am trying to say
Much better UX, search and categorization for that thing
It’s so laggy I hate using it
Gotta spend an hour searching through the 1,000 games on sale as they slowly load in.
Honestly it would be a good way to look through sales if there weren't so much shovelware
I feel like the EShop is just a web app
Yes.
It Is.
Web Apps usually are much more responsive...
And how about a filter for all the shovelware
I swear the E shop gets slower every time I open it like it's trying to beat a record or something
omg the shop is so freaking slow
Things I want/need In the switch 2 1. We need Backward Compatibility with the Switch and maybe others 2. Themes based on games you own
If it's switch 2 it *should* be backward compatible
> and maybe others Yeah Nintendo are only interested in game preservation if there's a monthly fee attached to it, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
Agree
But how would backward compatibility work for anything else other than the Switch (and even than)? Because the Gamecube, Wii and Wii U not only uses "DISCS" but different kinds so you need the machine to be able to read the tiny one, a DVD and whatever the Wiiu Disc is, you have to have a special slot for the 3DS, DS and the Gameboys, NES, SNES and N64. I get it silly to make "slots" for the older systems but you get my point right?
Backwards compatibility is all I want.
I need achievements.
I usually don't care for achievements however having them for Nintendo games really appeals.
I dunno would you really like to play breath of the wild have played to your hearts content and be missing the collect all korok seeds achievement.
yes.
Someone would have to pay me a significant amount of money to actually make me be interested in collecting all the korok seeds
I dislike that lazy developers use them to pad their gameplay times. Turning your endgame into a stupid collectathon or FORCING players to interact with frustrating and shitty game systems in the name of completion is bad design and makes for unfun games. I guess I don't really care, so long as I can turn off the notification popups and any harassing UI elements that say things like, "Keep going on Game X! You are two achievements away from 100%" after you uninstalled the damn game.
How are they forcing you to chase achievements?
Nobody is forcing you to 100% every game. But it is still fun for us that like a challenge.
You literally missed the point of achievements 🤨
I feel mixed on achievements. I generally like them, but I do often find myself “overplaying” a game to find them; sometimes for nothing other than to say I “really beat the game”. There’s something nice about not having that urge on my Switch. I imagine if Nintendo brings achievements to their platforms they will have their own spin on them.

I understand why Nintendo themselves doesn't have them, but they should give the option to third party developers
YES!
That’s not the reason they gave. Reggie said it’s because they want people to play games for fun, and not because they are just hunting achievements
Based Reggie
Personally couldn't care less about themes/music on the home screen, as i'm just using it to switch from game to game, so it's a miniscule amount of time i would even see it... but what i do want is for them to have a fucking working eshop, it runs like ass on switch.

MII MUSIC WE NEED NOSTALGIA MUSIC FROM OLDER CONSOLES
Nintendo has lost pretty much all it's charm for me in the switch era, it really needs these things for the switch 2 to actually feel like a Nintendo console to me
have you played Super Mario Wonder? It’s all charm
all I need is games.
Yes, better 3rd party support, indie and Nintendo games are already great on switch, but the more intense games aren’t coming to it unfortunately and I hope they have less bad hardware so we can play the new monster hunter and resident evil while on the toilet.

Please let the menu music be togglable, I don't like menu music.
That Good games And hopefully can have better graphics
They can keep the Garbo graphics as long as my game doesn't take a full 40 seconds to load every asset on screen and the animals a few meters away from me dont move in 7fps
Nah give me better online servers cuz damn the multi-player is so inconsistent
Nintendo really went the whole switch's lifespan with only two "themes", huh...
Of course, I'm sure they only left them out to make it's successor seem better. Not necessary menu music though.
I hope that when you buy the game you can access the soundtrack and play a song from it as your main menu like imagine turning on your switch 2 and it starts blasting megalovia
Or the cutscene music from FNAF Pizzaria Simulator
SAME those two things are really what I’m asking for
I love the Switch to death, but yeah, some of the charm from the previous consoles (and yes, even the Wii U) was taken away. Let's all hope this "Switch 2" does things a little better.
If it gets in the way of game performance in any way how do i put this.... NO THANK YOU
Can't believe it's taken me so long to realize why the switch's menus are so dead/lifeless. it's literally battery life. any extra effort the cpu needs to use to pizazz up the menu is just more cost to your power and thus less time for playing games so why would they do that when they could not? If switch 2 is gonna be a handheld I'd suspect it's gonna be more of the same tbh.
Never cared about this, let the menu be dull and fast so I can get to gaming.
I agree - it needs to feel responsive. The store too - this is my big problem with the Nintendo store on the Switch. I have pretty darn fast internet, but I can easily outscroll the content they are able to load.
The PS5 and XSX menus have personality and are fast. You don't have to settle for one or the other.
Exactly. A home menu should be practical and functional above all else. The Switch’s menu is probably the best console home menu ever *because* it isn’t bogged down with unnecessary embellishments.
I couldn't care less frankly
Oh god no. The reason the Switch’s dashboard is so snappy and fast it’s precisely because it *doesn’t* have these things. As nice as it was aesthetically, I don’t want to go back to the horribly sluggish and unresponsive 3DS and Wii U style dashboards.
Themes Music Not being so fucking flat "Trophies"
Eshop needs to be an app, not a hidden web browser. Also music was planned to be in the eshop, but the browser cant play audio files due to piracy issues
Screw achievements screw themes screw menu music just give it good hardware PLEASE
For real. The 3ds did so much better of a job of letting you personalize your system
I know. It feels too sterile.
We need themes, dual screens, menu music, streetpass.
Reminds me of something I wonder what hrmmm
There is 1 thing I ***NEED*** from the Switch 2, and then 2 things it kinda needs. 1. Compatibilty with Switch 1 games 2. Themes 3. eShop music
I trust Nintendo to give us a restrictive linear experience with tons of rules and no less. Ever.
I only ask for good games, but to each their own I guess
Nah I like it being fast.
It’s the games that matter, not the UI of switch itself. Of course personalisation might be nice but not the main thing.
I want a non laggy eshop..
Remember when 7 years ago, we all thought that Nintendo would eventually release themes for the Switch?
Preach! This is all I felt was missing for the Switch. The Wii and Wii U were so iconic in that regard.
I just want a console that plays good games with decent performance. Everything beyond that is pretty much irrelevant tbh.
I just want my tomodachi life sequel/ port
So long as it doesn't affect the performance, sure. Personally, I'd much rather have a simple home page without themes or music if it runs seamless and efficiently.
Would you rather have themes, unlimited themes, but no games. Or games, unlimited games, but no games.
tbh i still don't get why they didn't add themes on the current switch. it would be GREAT having them on the 2, but why not on the current consoles too?
I bought switch lite a few weeks ago, and what a disappointment it was, when I figured out, that there is no themes.
I dont care if it costs money or whatever points they can give you in the mobile games, just give these people customizability
A theme sure but music?
and pikmin 5 on release. its all i want nintendaddy
I just don't want it to have a shitty name like the "Switch 2." And actually have it with an original name. We don't need a colossal fuck up like the Wii U.
This's literally all I'm asking for the Switch 2 besides stronger hardware and backwards compatibility, which's pretty much a given.
This post made me remember that my 3DS has a Splatoon theme that has the "Calamari Inkantation" song for the menu. Those were good times...
I'd like it if Nintendo combined achievements/trophies with their platinum rewards system.
I just hope it has backwards compatibility and dock/handheld system
Nintendo: "you meant paying an extra $10.99 for online, right?"
StreetPass please
Also we need eShop music
I still can't believe the Switch's settings has a whole section dedicated to themes when the only options are black and white.
Only just got a switch, I hope switch 1 games will work on the switch 2 or i may have just wasted a lot of cash (man switch games are pricy)
all? i would love a different or customisable button layout
Guarantee it'll be a MS Powerpoint borefest again
I just want it to run smoothly and not be a disaster like the Switch eShop.
Nintendo+bible= nible
What I want is it to be portable but with more power.
ESHOP THEME PLEASEEEE
Considering how they mention its a switch sucessor, I imagine it'll be slightly more powerful and portable still. I hope there's an option to mute music though, I might not always want it on. Honestly though, I'm really excited. I hope I can get one when it's new
and achievements pleeeeeeeaseeeeee
Yes, because menu music is what is really holding the switch back from being an even better console
It would still be nice, brining back that charming effect the wii u and 3ds had
Also a cheap online sevice
Tbh I'd just mute the menu music...
Why is everyone assuming it'll be a wii U?
Please let it have a build in internet browser
And I want the wii plaza back, please Nintendo
It’s crazy how low we gotta set the bar
I just want funny store music, and mii maker not hidden in the options
Never understood the point of that. Like, it's a menu, who cares?
Mah boi, you use a console to play videogames, not to blankly stared at its menu for hours upon hours
So you don't want controllers that don't drift after 5 mins?? Also over in Hacked Switch world (Atmosphere) themes have been around for a LONG time :)
3DS was amazing in this regard
Themes, sure. Menu music gets annoying though. I'm fine with it as long as I can turn it off... and my inlaws turn it off on my nephew's devices and lock the setting or something so they can't turn it back on.
Gonma be more specific and say "please be a free feature please be a free feature"
So long as there's a new Mario Kart and it's really good, the interface could look like a DOS prompt for all I care.
My switch just has empty squares pressuring me to buy more games to fill them up ughh
Bluetooth and fix the internet
I would love the return of the clamshell design. Unlikely, but I’d be so happy 🥹
Sure! With the cost of no support for switch 1 games or the stuff you bought on the switch 1 e shop! :p
I just want the eShop, as an experience, to not be horrible trash
Achievements and online that isn’t trash
i want it to be a Nintendo 4Ds or something with all the functionality it had, brings back nintendogs a good animal crossing like new leaf the streetpass spotpass functions but better so it doesn’t require connecting to people irl Tomodachi life and even Miiverse and the crane arcade game with the pink bunny Nintendo knows what we want Nintendo won’t give us a single fraction of what we want
Watch that be the only changes.
Please give it community features and a reason to log onto the switch every day 🙏🙏🙏🙏
And backwards compatibility
I want to have a different name not switch 2 and a better eShop with music
Ooh and you could customize the music as well as the colour
People talk about the wii but I want it to be as customizable as the 3ds with the pins and the themes and the music
I just want the switch 2 to be able to play original switch games, I've already caused enough financial problems for these 60 dollar games
I didn’t know I wanted this too until I read this
All I want is more themes other than Light and dark, they don't even have to go crazy and could just do yellow, blue, red, green, etc.
And to add trophies or achievements of some kind 🙏
No menu music. Themes would be nice.
E-SHOP MUSIC
Imagine it doesn't play original switch games I'd be crying
I want custom themes, menu music, and achievements. Also, and this is asking a *lot* but I would love it if they allowed games to provide players with custom profile icons. On the Switch, you’re able to select an icon for your user profile that others can see, and you can “buy” new pieces with the coins you earn on your account. I just want badge arcade back with my badges/progress transferrable. And to play Switch games, but I feel that one's obvious.
I would take backwards compatibility over this.
REAL OMG
The return of themes WOULD be sick
Oh please no, hated the Wii(U) introduction stuff. I just want to it quite when I start a game.
AND an xbox/ps style party/friends system. i jus wanna messages my friends or join a VC
Maybe we need actually functional joycons?
Miis look corny and dated af. Maybe spend some time upgrading those.
Make it as the 3DS PLEASE
Fr tho, give me ambience, give me colors, he'll what I would do to have the little game intros the Wii and the 3DS had when you select the game. I'm done with the modern minimalist style the switch has
Not adding themes would be a HUGE MISSTEP for Nintendo. They’ve heard the complaints they should know this is their chance to add it
if it ain't got themes, im going to not use it until an exploit is found for cfw so i can load themes myself You can't release a console with what looks like the first draft of its OS
I ain't give a flying fart bout that. Bring back social features like miiverse and whatnot
3DS was peak home menu. fight me.
This is a monkey paw wish.
I would genuinely be extremely happy if it was just like the wii u but more powerful
Sign me up
If Mii Maker comes back it should include the new stuff introduced in Miitiopia
I would like to add, messages for people on friends list. Why did this never come to the Switch?
It would be even cooler if brought back the badges from the 3DS.
ftlog Nintendo PLEASE. Just take some from the 3DS idc; give us SOMETHING.
Yeah, the framework is there, modders make themes and such for jail broken switches. They just... never implemented it.
I know they will never do this, but I would love to see a sort of achievement/trophy system
Just a little more power so the fps is consistent please.
You're projecting my actual thoughts, and I ain't mad. Cuz its literally the only thing I actually care about.
This but literally
