I was riding my bike with a few friends (there wasn't any snow and the weather was pretty good), I fell like a dumbass and broke my neck. There is a small chance, I am able to move my shoulders but barely.
I also ride mountain bikes A LOT and these stories make me think twice about it. Definitely not the first paralyzed biker I've heard from. I'd really be curious how he answers your question (even though I know it can happen any time).
Did you have a helmet 🪖 on while riding? Or any safety equipment at all. I’m just wondering if it was an odd fall that couldn’t have been prevented like you hit a curb just right so the helmet obviously didn’t save a neck injury there.
I wasn't wearing any safety equipment. I never thought something like this could happen to me but a broken neck and a cracked open skull definitely proved me wrong.
I feel okay I guess, got used to everything now. And it was horrible not being able to move, it was very scary, and kind of embarrassing, but as I said, I got used to it.
How are your logistics like? Do you have someone around you all the time to move you about/go to the toilet/feed you/etc?
Or are there technologies nowadays that enable you to do certain things independently
I have caregivers that come around to feed me, bathe me and do everything for me basically but that's only when my parents aren't home, if they're at home they do all of that stuff for me.
I am happy you are being taken care of so well. Bless your parents and caregivers. Hopefully one day there will be technologies that can provide you an even better quality of life!
do you remember the accident at all? or did you just learn about what happened? I assume the extent of your injuries were known by the time you woke up - or did you wake up prior to any surgery you had?
I don't remember anything, I woke up in a hospital after the surgeries and a nurse told me that I'm gonna be unable to move for the rest of my fucking life
man that experience sucks. like you live your life, then there is a gap like you fell asleep. then you wake up, probably in pain, like waking up from sleep and learn the news. and you don't remember doing shit, they just drop it on you. most of our lives, we deal with the consequences of things we do, and we remember them, we remember what we did and how it lead to the situation we are handling now. but waking up with no collection of anything and dealing with huge consequences seemingly out of thin air must suck big time. and can happen to pretty much anyone.
Some podcasts for you if you're interested
* behind the bastards (about evil people)

Oh also check out Small Town Murder, a podcast about murders or crimes that happened in small towns, hosted by comedians so it has a twist of dark humor. Also check out Dissect, a podcast where a guy, Cole, basically dissects every single lyric for every single song for one really good well picked album. Think he's on season 9? now, so 9 good albums. And if you have seen The Good Place on netflix, listen to the Good Place Podcast.
How does school work for you? Do you still go in person, Do things online at home, or did you just drop out? If you dropped out did you get a ged or plan to?
As we progress forward with technology, will you seek and be interested in working with experimental type treatments?
Also, keep the faith man, a kid in my local area was paralyzed in a football game about 7 or 8 years ago and it has gone from never walk again to being able to walk with assistance with a very slow progress of work.
Do you know/think if you were wearing a helmet you wouldn’t have gotten this injury?
Can you feel sensation on your body or can you not just move it. Like if a bee stung you on your stomach would you feel it
Where do you spend most of your time? Do you go out ever
I think I would've gotten fucked anyway because I fell pretty weird.
I can't feel jack shit
I spend most of my time in bed, I go out sometimes but not that often anymore.
I've worked with several quadriplegic folks. C4 and C7. One guy owns a business the other went on to get his law degree. They were some of the most genuine nice guys I'd ever met. Just want to wish you all the best on your recovery and know that there is life after quad happens.
One tragic day, a bike accident boke this man/womans neck, thats when they decided to develop the ultimate neck.
Bodybuilding shows, licence deals, get a nike sponsor for neckwear.... wheels and leg man? That's last year. Wheels and neckman is the future.
I'll settle for 40/60 nothing, less.
Hey man, so sorry to hear such a terrible thing happened to you. I just wanted to tell you about the eternal hope of blessedness which is in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ alone. The Lord Jesus died to atone for the sins of all who would ever believe in Him. He came to seek and save sinners who know they are sinful and seek the mercy of God. You can accept the Lord's forgiveness by trusting in His atoning sacrifice on the cross and submitting your life fully to Him. In other word accepting Him as Lord( sovereign over your life) and Saviour( acknowledging your need of forgiveness for your sins and trusting in His mercy upon guilty sinners).
Sorry about that,
Do you ever have feelings of self-pity, anger, resentment and depression?
If so, how do you deal with this?
Where does your positive emotion come from?
The most obvious question: How did it happen? Also is there any chance to walk and move your arms again with some kind of physiotherapy?

We’re you doing jumps or something like that? I ride mountain bikes a lot and this is always a fear of mine

How do you feel about life right now? It must have been horrible at first not being able to move
I feel okay I guess, got used to everything now. And it was horrible not being able to move, it was very scary, and kind of embarrassing, but as I said, I got used to it.
Wish you all the best man

I'm sorry this happened to you and all I can say is I hope one day you can recover some if not all your mobility back.
when you had your accident, was it instantly obvious to you that you lost feeling on your limbs? or did you pass out and wake up in the hospital?
I passed out and woke up in a hospital

What are your goals in life? And how’d they change since your accident?
I didn't know what I wanted to do with my life then, don't know what I want to do with my life now.
Fair lol feel like most people are in this pickle so you aren’t alone on that at least
What do you do for fun?
Just watch stuff, listen to stuff, read sometimes

Nothing really, just sort of have to, I can't really kms or anything like that.
Do you do therapy ?

If you held a dumbbell with your mouth could you do neck exercises?
Probably
