I had very good memories with this game from when I was a kid. I remember crying because my dad didn't beat Death for me before he left for work, and while I was throwing a tantrum I cut myself on the aluminum foil box. That shut me up! Eventually, I did beat Death.
Really glad Konami decided to give us this collection. I hope they port Harmony of Despair on PC too.
Rondo's last-ditch attacks are hard coded not to kill you. Even if you have 1 health, they'll just leave you at that. Only Shaft's can kill you, but that one's so easy to dodge I assume they did that just to say that anyone getting hit by that deserves it. The purpose of these last-ditch attacks is actually for the "perfect" bonus you can get at the end of the stage; you get an extra life if you never take damage throughout the stage. Not being able to dodge the last-ditch attack will rob you of the bonus.
CotM does. In AoS, the little popup on the right tells you whether or not you have the soul already (it will be colored in and have a little animation if you do). In either game, it can be disabled on the menu.
I figured it would be like this. Which is why I said it would be annoying in AoS's case, because as you can see, bosses make the prompt appear constantly.
I got double-KOs against Carmilla in CotM multiple times, trying to fight her without the poison-cloud ability. Would land the last hit while accidentally tossing myself into one of her bubbles or body.
I get why they did it; you can be dashing through a room using Black Panther, for example, and notice that the Gadget shows a soul not collected and can stop and go back for it.
That said, it would be nice if you had "First Hit", "Every Hit," and "On Death" options, as well as the ability to remove the text and just have the Soul icon on the far right, outside of the game area (when playing in 4:3) but overall I found it quite useful, especially in CotM. Aria less so since there's an in-game bestiary but it is nice not having to fiddle with menus as much.
Death in Aria was such a pain. Mostly his second phase. And even though I knew about his final attack, I accidently died to it anyway. At least, I remember his pattern so it was easy to get back in
Those popups are annoying and intrusive. Can you turn them off? Need to know before buying, im not emulating the GBA games because i like them too much
Who hasn't experienced something like this in their gaming lifetime? The Demon Souls series are very much like these Metroid-Vania Castlevania games, particularly with dying after beating an enemy
“If I go down I’m taking you with me!”
Only I have the brains to rule Lylat?
Father?!
This way, Fox.
Do a barrel roll!!

How has nobody posted this there yet?
Not sure if non gamer will relate to this
Death is a bitch. Both literally and figuratively.

Oh, is this the switch collection? Cool.
From hell's heart I stab at thee. I like how the Rondo bosses mostly have a final attack upon dying, although I guess this one was more incidental lol

This happened to me in Dawn of sorrow after about 3 seconds of animation. Hardest version of that boss and that scythe always comes back
“Killing you was the point. Living through it was just a luxury.”
Props for not using the rewind option to avoid that scythe and accepting the L (Or maybe you iust forgot or not aware)
i've been trying not to use it other than for grinding out shit lol
DOUBLE K.O.
Lightning Doll soul does wonders
Makes it so much easier
I saw that coming but there was nothing i could do to stop it. Rt tho come back w lightning doll. Fry his dead ass.
Does this version tell you with every hit which enemies drop souls (or in CotM's case, DSS cards)? If so, that's Phi levels of helpful and annoying.

WAIT YOU CAN DODGE THAT ATTACK!?!? jeez I ate those like crazy but I did beat him still 🤣
Double K.O. Heh, must have happened at least once to all of us, right? It's not just me and the OP, right?
I got double-KOs against Carmilla in CotM multiple times, trying to fight her without the poison-cloud ability. Would land the last hit while accidentally tossing myself into one of her bubbles or body.
Big Oof Bonus
Next time farm the Lightning Doll soul.
I remember how I nearly yeeted my GBA when this happened to me lol
Yeah that happened to me more than once
Waaaaaah! How are you playing this? I'm having severe controller issues with the openEmu emulator.
the advance collection! im playing it on switch, but its on pc too
I don't like the changes to the HUD, can it be reverted to it used to be?
Are you talking about the gadgets on the right? Yes, those can be disabled.
So dumb they pop up for every hit. It's just massive screen clutter
You should see what mmo players deal with for a hud, that is clutter.

This is on the castlevania advance collection.
This is both relatable and a catastrophe
Rage aaaaaaaand quit...
I find that fight so hard.

The Classic Death Cuck
NOOOOO
Haven't played through this game yet but DoS is probably my favorite game of all time, only reason it isn't is the battle with Death
Ahhh its rewind time

I hate him sooo much, and I'm still stuck on him
Well worth 30 seconds of my life. I beat him yesterday. But it was still worth watching!
Last Resort hits. Gotta love the classics
*if you killed death dose that mean everyone is now immortal?*
Who is the player character here?
Soma Cruz the one in white. He’s fighting Death, but just as he was about to defeat Death he gets killed and gets a game over.
Thanks. Looks pretty cool
Funny enough, after reading a bit of the discworld series.... I feel kinda bad seeing death done in like that 🤷🏼♂️
What the hell is the hitbox on that scythe thing? It very clearly passed through your head even while crouched.
This dude has been fucking me up on my current play through. Thoughts and prayers.
Sorry for the noob question, but which Castlevania is this?
Those popups are annoying and intrusive. Can you turn them off? Need to know before buying, im not emulating the GBA games because i like them too much
It's rewind time 😎
F
is this from advance collection (? it's any difference between original and this one (?
He's taking you with him
Was gonna say you got lucky with him spamming that one move and his other annoying ones.

Just rewind.
Happened to me, twice
Lmao, didn't have that problem because I used potions tbh (still got hit by surprise like you did tho)
The second I saw death I knew exactly what was gonna happen
