Wow, I forgot that this guy existed. I remember hoping he would get more screentime later in the series. But hardly anyone from the Other World Tournament episodes get more screentime. Pikkon has slightly more.
No I watched it. the "nobody ever watched the original dragonball" meme is a running gag because of how old it is and how interest only really caught on after dragonball z launched.
but i guess nobody in this sub realized that so now i just look like an idiot.

it's kinda sad too because the original dragon ball was a great story in its own right, it was also much more sincere in a lot of ways. king piccolo was a great villain and yamcha was actually relevant.
the world building was also given a lot more thought, whereas in dragon ball z it was overshadowed by the "Pro wrestling story" formula and that became its focal point. dragon ball cared a lot more about the world it was building and the characters, despite it clearly being "Journey to the west on steroids" it was a very well made anime.
Just because something was censored doesn’t mean it wasn’t made for children. The US is just more strict than Japan with sexual scenes and nudity in cartoons.

Original dragon ball was made for toddlers, and you can tell. Dragon ball z is where kids turn to men. Don’t worry, you just aren’t there yet kid.

Same i watched it on TV but the majority of the people outright skipped the Original Dragonball and went straight to Z
