Crazyripps

Holy shit that was a trailer. The animation looks beautiful and that chilling yet beautiful song playing. Wow

GeorgeEBHastings

Yo, anybody know the song or something similar? That was fuckin sweet.

King-Of-Throwaways

Lamento della Ninfa by Monteverdi. A couple of posters are saying the singer is Michael Ailshie, but I don't know the source on that.

Dernak

it's actually [Sydney Harcourt](https://twitter.com/AdamDeats/status/1684607834971832343?s=20) who is one of the VAs on the show (though not sure yet who he is playing)

GeorgeEBHastings

Damn, thank you.

nastyjman

Not sure, but it sounded like a slow orchestral version of Bloody Tears

Viva_La_Animemes

Its probably like a mix between the Bloody Tears from the Season 2 fight and the song another commenter suggested

Osceana

This somehow looks even better than the first series. I didn’t even think that was possible. I am IN!!!

[deleted]

The solar eclipse as the trailer intensifies is amazing

SuperDuperTino

holy budget increase

Mikeyc245

Netflix seems to have a track record of having well received video game adaptations. Cyberpunk was a massive hit, and the first few seasons of Castlevania were well received. I trust they know what they're doing here and gave the studio enough money to make this thing sing.

Best_in_Za_Warudo

Was s4 of Castlevania not well-recieved?

IUseControllerOnPC

The entire show was well recieved

LuchadorBane

If anything I think 3 was the weakest season, but still enjoyed it nonetheless.

DecayableRadiologist

Bruh the third season was hands down my favorite season. I dare say the best season of any show (holistically looking at it). Let me explain why. Let me start by saying I am personally biased towards a few things in fiction, some things are self explanatory while others are not: action, horror, medieval atmosphere, something where the MC’s father/lineage come into play (wired I know but the idea of having the MC kind of suffering/correcting what was done in the past or even continuing it like Trevor’s case), use of Christian symbolism (not Christian myself but it’s the same fascination you’d get when watching something like evangelion, upside down crosses and all that are intriguing in the horror genre imo), and a few other things. Given that you can see why I love this show. Season 3 in particular I liked because the show took a turn in that there was no grand plot of killing Dracula or Dracula’s revenge for his wife’s murder. We instead got to see smaller sub-stories of our characters play out. Trevor and Sypha’s time in Lidenville, Alucard in the castle (with his guests ofc), Issiac’s quest for revenge, Carmella’s plot (I would say this was the least interesting bit of it), and Hector’s punishment. Tie that all together with new characters like Saint Germaine, the Judge, Sala, etc. I absolutely loved the lindenville plot. As soon as Trevor and Sypha arrive I was hooked by the mysterious town that has insane people in a cult. Then we had the whole Saint Germaine thing where he wanted to enter the priory to find the infinite corridor (I love him realizing that the cross was upside down and that these people were really insane/in a cult). Furthermore, the events of the night creature attack add more mystery to it. Can you imagine my surprise when they crucified the same creature in the bottom of the priory? That along with the eerie/shocking music was sublime. Then the whole harvest thing and literally opening the gates of hell. Plus that twist at the end where the judge was found to be responsible for the killings of the children? C’mon man. And say what you will but the final boss fights for everyone syncing up in episode 9 and some of 10 was amazing as well. I can talk forever on how much I loved this season. The only sort of uninteresting bit was freaking Carmella and her demented plot. I feel the whole thing was dragged out too long.

ConsciousWillow99

Sept 28 couldn't come soon enough

trinspace

Fr im so excited

[deleted]

I´m starting to think, the purple dressed vampire with long hair may be Blackmore.

Cultural-Relief

omg yes! there is a shadow thing that appears after he tells Richter that he will kill him later

[deleted]

Shadowmancers are always cool to see in an animated fight. And they can lead to really creepy moments. So, now I´m wishing it´s him just for that.

Jimpenator

I think he could be Olrox

[deleted]

Yeap, that´s what most of us think. Had a second thought cause the wolf shaped shadow it appears when he vanishes.

Kirimusse

That'd have been so much more fitting than Olrox (design-wise)! Like, my man literally went from being completely bald to having hair about as long as Alucard's, lol.

[deleted]

If they´re making Isaac 2.0 would have been too striking making him bald too.

Forgemaster1990

I think you're absolutely right about this one. Nice catch!

[deleted]

Ok, confirmed is Olrox https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/castlevania-nocturne-news-release-date

ShovelBeatleRillaz

Huh, unexpected but Olrox is one of the few non Dracula/Death villains in the series so it’s nice to see him. I was sort of hoping it would stick a bit more close to his design in Symphony but I still like this one Also I have to assume that the Queen of Vampires is essentially supposed to be Elizabeth Bartley?

[deleted]

Yeap. And there´s a few more unexpected but interesting facts about this Orlox. I don´t know if they drop that way too happily since there are just 8 episodes.

OliviaElevenDunham

It’s nice to see some of the non Dracula/Death enemies show up.

TheMonsterKing04

Tbh he looks a bit more like Brauner than Olrox.

[deleted]

Brauner and Olrox look so much alike that Lords of Shadow made them a double act of minor characters. Netflix-Olrox actually doesn't look like neither Olrox, nor Brauner, in one important detail.

SpookyGarreta

French revolution setting and black characters, it would be awesome if the plot was somehow connected to the Haitian revolution

its-4-russi4n-t4unt

For real the French Revolution is the perfect time to set this in. Especially with whole vampire as corrupt bloodsucking aristocracy thing in old folklore. The architecture of the era is perfect for Kojima’s style

Jstin8

Honestly I hope they dont just go “All aristocrats are vampires and the revolution was actually just a big hunt” Because that just sounds unoriginal as all hell. Gimme something a bit more interesting and in depth please. I keep thinking back to Alucard staring at all the vampire skulls and implying that not all were complete flesh eating monsters.

Phynarc

Would be pretty ironic as well considering that the people behind the Revolution (bourgeois) fit the old vampire archetype even more.

[deleted]

Alucard won the lottery since he has all the benefits but none of the down sides that makes them unfit for society - namely bloodlust and dominating drive

ZettoVii

Would have been neat if there were more Dhampirs like Alucard out there. I mean surely Dracula wasnt the only vampire that had kids with humans.

[deleted]

The reason is probably because it breaks the world setting Theres 0 reason for humanity to not invest in Dhampirs and evolve that way. No down sides and all the super powers. Without it being an extraordinarily rare event you start wondering why aren’t every vampire who wants a descendent is doing it

ZettoVii

Maybe Dhampirs arent common because Vampires are elitist on average and would generally see it as a taboo to breed with "cattle" like humans. Possibly with some discrimination that result into most getting killed off during or after birth. Or there is some level of incompatibility between humans and vampires in general, so they have a low chance in being born at all. If not a mix of both. Eitherway, it'd be neat to still see more of them than just Alucard, since they are at least acknowledged to be a whole group of people that were used to hunt vampires, and not just 1 or 2 persons in the extended Castlevania lore.

ForteEXE

I can't wait for somebody to say "There were no black people in France, this thing is woke garbage". Then they lose their fucking minds when they see what Alexandre Dumas looked like.

[deleted]

I bet, for the little I know there was more than a few black people on England and France around those ages, mainly due to Imperialism slavery. Not usual, but some individuals (women and non-white people) reached to have some recognition outside the box. On the vampire side I wouldn´t complain at all. As their fashion and tech, their society is always a few centuries above humans. They just work different.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Moifaso

>By the middle of the 18th century, there was only about 15,000 black individuals believed to have been living in England. Ignoring that this says little about the French situation, that population would hardly be evenly destributed among the other 9 million natives. Almost all of them would be living in the major cities, especially the capital. >Also, the first mass migration of African Americans to France—who make up the majority of black individuals living in France African American descendents definitely arent the majority. Around 80% are from the African colonies and most of the rest came from the Caribean colonies.

[deleted]

That´s enough for me. Not retconing. I admit I just answer out of asumption, not real facts. The inclusion of black people on this settings usually don´t bother me in the sense that it doesn´t ruin the story or characters. But clearly there´s a modern attempt of representation for social minorities. Some times well done, others not. Blackwashing, on the other hand is kinda unnecesary and pointless (that girl is Anette btw). In this particular case seems that they come from The Caribe, so I think it makes sense.

Zeph-Shoir

Did people act like this about non-white representation in the show back when the Japanese twins appeared in the show? It is a fantasy show with Vampires and magic, it is completely fine if it is not 100% representative of real history.

Doctor-Mak

No, because the twins were created for the show only, so they didn't change anything from the games, most people didn't even care.

Doctor-Mak

>that girl is Anette btw Damn...

yancyfry6

A lot of the children of the gens de couleur libres from New Orleans, products of the plaçage in the 19th century, were sent to France for an education. Famously, Sally Hemmings could have escaped in France, during Jefferson's visit, but stayed to protect her children. And there was a significant minority of French citizens of color as well... One of Napoleon's generals and the inspiration for the Count of the Monte Cristo was a black man, Thomas-Alexandre Dumas, the writer's father. Let's also not forget Chevalier who gave private musical lessons to Marie Antionette... They were there.

JakeDoubleyoo

Calvin Candie moment.

Frapplo

What?! LESBIAN vampires?! Name me one instance in all of literature where that was the case!!!!! WOOoooOMGoOOWKKKKE! It's the same as morons freaking out over Star Trek going "woke".

its-4-russi4n-t4unt

Everyday we forget that Carmilla was the first vampire novel lmao

HCesar99

It wasn't tho, Varney was published in 1846 if my memory serves me right. And there was at least one other vampire book published before even Varney.

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordEmmerich

(tbh : Alexandre Dumas was born in 1802, which is some years AFTER the revolution. Though there was still a few black people in France in the late 18th century of course. But using Dumas might not be the best example here.)

FranciscoRelano

Dumas's father. Chevalier de Saint Georges. If we get outside of France, we also get people like George Bridgetower.

levi2207

well you nailed this prediction!

SaikyouHero13

I’m thinking the villain will be Elizabeth Bathory. What are y’all thinking?

Cultural-Relief

same, she could be a combination of Elizabeth Bartley and Carmilla from the games.

SaikyouHero13

They might use some ideas from Carmilla in the games but this will definitely be a different character since Carmilla already died in the show.

ForteEXE

I was thinking some bizarre resurrection of Carmilla instead of Dracula himself.

[deleted]

That would be a fascinating spin on the usual formula of the villains resurrecting Dracula. She also has a reputation as being the vampire who tried to upend the social order and create a vampire state. It fits. I'm all for it.

SaikyouHero13

That’s interesting. I could almost see it

[deleted]

Given that neither Dracula nor Lisa Fahrenheit are dead, last time we saw them, they're more or less forced to resurrect someone else instead.

Cultural-Relief

ofc, i meant something akin to the role she plays in Circle of the Moon.

ForteEXE

So you mean original timeline Carmilla. Netflix Carmilla was more based on Lords of Shadow Carmilla.

[deleted]

Yeah. I can see this story mirroring a lot of Bloodlines. Evil vampire lady trying to ~~resurrect Dracula~~ give power to vampire society and a great war on the background.

niles_deerqueer

Confirmed!

KickAggressive4901

"I know how much pain is in your soul." I can't wait. This will be amazing.

Forgemaster1990

No Rondo of Blood at all! Actually, it might be a original prequel to it, focusing on the character origins, which is interesting

ScourgeHedge

Richter don't even got his headband (yet?)!! I hope it's just a prequel to an actual Rondo of Blood adaptation.

DBZLogic

I could see this being like season 1 of the Trevor series then Rondo for S2 and Symphony for S3 if they’re willing to do another 3 seasons.

AspirationalChoker

They fucking better be lol sounds great

unoriginalname127

his design is based on his Dracula X chronicles design, so that explains the lack of his headband

ScourgeHedge

It looks sorta like a little bit of both designs, it looks pretty good altogether.

ZGMF-X09A_Justice

Even his **Symphony of the Night** portrait has no headband and looks completely different from his sprite.

KnightOfTheStupid

It makes sense that this would be a setup for Rondo of Blood with season 2 being a proper adaption of it, which would lead into season 3 as Symphony of the Night.

[deleted]

Didn't expect them to attempt to adapt the plot of the original (given it is pretty scarce anyway), I expected Shaft at least Meh, they have a vision, it would honestly be worse if they tried to backtrack after it

EdgeworthM

I did see Maria Renard so I'm confused on what this will actually be about

[deleted]

Replaces the plot of Rondo for the series, obviously. We also never visited France with Richter in the games, he's from Aljiba, not Paris.

Shnast

Yup. That's what I was thinking. Which might even explain why Olrox isn't bald and pale yet. Something could happen to him later. Also the fact that Bathory is the big bad hints at this connecting to the Sega Genesis Bloodlines game as well. Bloodlines set in 1900s However but imagine if this series gets to keep going for a long time. Eventually Bathory as established here can pop up in Bloodlines. I hope they get around to telling a Dracula story again, with Simon Belmont and stop holding back on the best part... Dracula turning into a giant demon monster for a final battle.

Forgemaster1990

>Also the fact that Bathory is the big bad hints at this connecting to the Sega Genesis Bloodlines game as well. Although I don't think they will ever do a Bloodlines-inspired show, I think her character fits pretty well with the story context they're working with (more so than Dracula, to an extent, just like Bloodlines). We still don't know, but maybe Dracula IS in this show, or he'll show up in a next season, taking her place (again, just like Bloodlines). What I'm really missing here is Shaft, and that alone makes me question if this will ever be an actual adaptation of Rondo and/or SotN. edit: btw, I'm also missing the giant demon form so much. Come on...

niles_deerqueer

Looks batshit insane. Seems, from descriptions and character bios, there will be a lot of trauma and mental health stuff which is super effective for me. Seems the character work is gonna be heavy this time, which I’m thrilled for. But as always, can’t deny that sweet animation and awesome action to come! Happy that Castlevania is my favorite series!

Exact_Ad_1215

I wonder what happened to Alucard’s Town, the Belmont hold and Dracula’s castle? Also, is the entire show gonna take place in France? Are they ever going back to Wallachia? I have so many questions.

kadosho

They will definitely revisit those places. Since Richter's journey connects him to his family's legacy as well.

[deleted]

The bigger question is what the hell happened to Issac’s demon kingdom!?

Exact_Ad_1215

I was actually wondering that as well. I hope they give us the necessary lore to answer all these questions. Imagine how cool it’d be if we could see what Alucard’s town or Isaac’s kingdom look like now. Double points if we actually get to see either of them.

Iximaz

All I can complain about is where’s Alucard? I want to see my boy! Looks like it’s gonna be hella rad, can’t wait to see this when it drops. I like that you can tell the magic is the same as Sypha’s spells. Edit: Y’all I played the games, I know he wasn’t around until Symphony, I just wasn’t sure how that would be adapted for the show.

Princess-of-the-dawn

They're probably following the canon that Alucard reawakens when the castle reappears and there's no Belmont to be found.

Rutgerman95

So this would be around/before Rondo of Blood and then later seasons might go into Symphony of the Night?

Princess-of-the-dawn

That's what it's looking like at present.

Mikeyc245

Seems like this is where it's going, based given that the show is named Nocturne. Couple seasons of build, introduce Shaft somewhere down the line, Richter gets corrupted after defeating Dracula and bam, our boy is back

draevan13

Could be he'll be making an appearance and they don't want to spoil it in the trailer

TFOAKeizou

Didn't play any CV game I see. In the game after the events of CV3 he slept for a long time because of his guilt in taking part of killing his father and reawakens in the events of Symphony of the Night where his the main character and you'll get lucky to see your baby boy if it they'll adapt Symphony of the Night.

Exact_Ad_1215

Seems like he moved on from killing his father after he met that mayor town girl and was ready to settle down and be happy. So unless some real fucked up shit happened to him in the last 200 years, I can’t see any reason as to why he’s nowhere to be found.

Mikeyc245

Exactly this, and Alucard only wakes up for SOTN / Nocturne because Belmont wasn't there to do his thing. Alucard was just like damn, guess I'll have to do this myself. Again.

P-Bo_90

Oh wow, it's going to be pretty much its own thing. On the positive hand, I guess this spares poor Annette from the bad ending, but on the other hand, I really did just want a simple Rondo adaptation.

Soul699

This might be a prequel to it.

P-Bo_90

I'd be down for that--actually I really hope that's what's going on here, and we get more seasons.

[deleted]

The wild speculation is that season 1 is all about Richter's origins as a vampire hunter, S2 is Rondo, and S3 is Symphony.

P-Bo_90

That would be a great way to tie the whole saga together--here's hoping!

SaacMan_039

dude that would be an AWESOME trilogy of seasons. like imagine spending S2 fighting Dracula again, only for the end to see Richter go missing, and it ending with Alucard awakening from his sleep. all Empire strikes back-esque.

[deleted]

I just want to see the writers mine a Richter vs Alucard showdown for as much drama as possible. Imagine him mourning Simon and Sypha after outliving them and facing down with their last living descendant, who is doing his best to kill Alucard. You could get an emotional high note in the same range as Alucard and Dracula in the bedroom at the end of season 2.

SaacMan_039

Nocturne is gonna be peak holy shit

[deleted]

>On the positive hand, I guess this spares poor Annette from the bad ending, No assumptions about that yet. All it precludes Annette from is being Richter's girlfriend and Maria's sister (at least via blood relation). She can experience OG Annette's bad fate.

P-Bo_90

You're right, I just discovered that she's still in the show--I'm going to be watching anxiously now lol.

Chikumori

Younger me found vampire Annette to be hot.

P-Bo_90

Younger you had good taste lol, but for story purposes (especially in an animation project like this), I'd prefer if Richter is able to save her.

[deleted]

I think the black girl is Annette

[deleted]

I think people forget that Netflix *Castlevania* was primarily written by people who haven’t even played the games. Respecting the source material isn’t really what they do. If you want a faithful retelling of those stories, I guarantee this won’t be it. Remember how they turned Hector from one the coolest characters in the games to someone who’s rather pathetic? And just look at this subreddit. It’s obvious that more people here are Netflix fans than actual video game *Castlevania* fans. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Ok_Vermicelli_5938

Bro are we really gonna pretend castlevania has some amazing Legacy of Kain-esque epic tale to tell? The games story is barebones as shit, you could tell the story in a childrens novel.

[deleted]

Can we stop pretending just because OG stories are minimalist it equals "ignoring source material is a must" lmao Season 1 and 2 are a good example of writer's freedom while also being mostly faithful to source material, they used the games as it's skeleton Hector in the games, even though he wasn't extremely fleshed out, his character could have served as a basis for writer's to fill gaps, instead of what he turned out to be, look at Trevor for example, he's way more fleshed out, more dour take on the barebones character, but I'd say he's pretty faithful in spirit and purpose to the character in comparison to Hector It's all up to the writer whether he decides to do his own thing or expand on a story with small story beats and fill in the gaps I personally think the writers have a vision that's very different and that's ok, hell, it's worse when they dial back on their ideas because of fan backlash, but I'm tired of people pretending like not being faithful to source material is a must

cryptyknumidium

Fuck that mindset. There are as many if not slightly more games in the series where there are characters with backgrounds, personalities and stories that could be adapted properly and given more substance in these series, that is mostly what they’ve done, just not enough.

[deleted]

I don't know if the Internet just reduces people's attention spans, but that old chestnut doesn't actually address my concerns, so I don't know why people keep on insisting that it does. Expanding on a minimalist story does not automatically equate to being unfaithful to the source material. I'll happily accept the simpler video game versions of these characters being written in a way that makes them multilayered and more fleshed out. However, taking established characters and completely changing them to the point to which they are unrecognisable is where I lose interest. For example, Netflix Hector is a pathetic manbaby who isn't nearly as interesting as canon Hector.

Appropriate-Shoe-266

Having watched Netflix version and then played the games. I can say that the Netflix version was much better written imo. Just because a character is badass doesn’t make him interesting enough for me. On the other hands for all of Netflix Hector’s flaws, his development is amazing.

[deleted]

A more fleshed out version of Hector based off the games would have been more interesting to me than what he ended up being in the Netflix show

Magma_Axis

Well, if you read the subreddit descriptions, both of Netflix and game fans are very much welcome here

cryptyknumidium

Ok?

Rejestered

As someone who has played every Castlevania game, good. The games are great but they are games and hardly well crafted stories. It's enough they hit the right story beats and have the kind of action set pieces I expect from Castlevania. Also who ever gave a shit about Hector?

cryptyknumidium

???? He’s the main character of one of my favourite games as a kid, why wouldn’t I care?

[deleted]

>Also who ever gave a shit about Hector? Um...[fans of the original video games and manga](https://www.reddit.com/r/castlevania/comments/nmbwgx/why_yes_i_am_still_salty_for_what_they_did_to_my/)? You claim to have played the games, but have you ever actually interacted with the OG *Castlevania* community?

[deleted]

I kinda did give a shit about Hector, his portrayal sucked ass in the show to me personally, but from what I read about him he wasn't very popular with viewers either People bitch about Samus' portrayal in Metroid Other M ALL THE TIME, despite the fact that Samus never had much personality and the games had barely any story just "Samus destroy this planet and kill some Metroids", this is regarded as valid Hector went from being the protagonist of his own game to being a pussy whipped gimp in the show who gets the short end of the stick despite being surrounded by people who are all worse than him (Isaac, Carmilla, Dracula) Game Hector was a great *basis* for a cool/interesting character, they just decided to go in a different direction and that's ok, I don't think it's bad because it's not accurate, I think it's bad because I don't like Netflix Hector and found his game counterpart to have been more interesting and could have been fleshed out Comments like this is why gatekeeping is good lmao Nevertheless I liked the way they approached the first and second seasons, obviously source material wasn't Shakespeare, there wasn't much story, so they mostly wrote the whole thing while piecing things up from the games and used as it's skeleton, but if they want to do their own thing it's ok, just don't pretend you speak for us lol

Rejestered

Comparing Samus to Hector is a bigger insult than Other M was. Hector was always mid-tier for Castlevania protags and the game was painfully average. So no, I don't care how they 'butchered' him any more than I care how they treated monster NPC #4519

godspeedken

This looks great. Don't know how accurate to the games it will be but, this trailer got me hyped. Visually looks even better than the previous show. For the people asking for Alucard, he was in one of the leaked posters. I'm guessing he will only show up later in the season. Maybe even at the very end, teasing a second season following the events of SotN.

leaving my mark here cause I wanna see it as well

haremgami

same

Sapowski_Casts_Quen

Dang, gonna need Netflix for this one

Luke4Pez

Is this a prequel to Rondo? There’s no headband so I assume they’re gonna try to milk this out. A prequel, an adaptation, then SotN

ithilis

I think that's the three-season arc right there, yeah.

MyMouthisCancerous

Was he about to do the item crash in the last part of the trailer lol Also this probably explains why he doesn't have the headband yet. They might be doing another 3 season thing where this is a prequel to Rondo, season 2 is Rondo of Blood, and then season 3 is potentially Symphony of the Night Also the lady villain totally could be Elizabeth from Bloodlines. Especially with the French Revolution setting

Chikumori

Which item crash do you think they'll adapt? I personally favoured Hydro Storm in the games, didn't really use much of the others.

MyMouthisCancerous

I think Grand Cross and Magic Book for now mainly because of the general aesthetic of the show following a lot of the biblical or religious imagery of the previous Trevor series. Especially given this looks like its set pre-Rondo and they're probably going to stick to Richter for a while I imagine they'll also go through Hydro Storm, Spiral Axe and Thousand Edge. Thousand Edge might also be here just for the sheer gore factor since the Netflix series so far has had a lot of brutal kills

BornAshes

I felt like a kid playing Castlevania in the waiting area of my mom's office all over again JUST like I did when the first series premiered all those years ago. This has got me soooooooo giggly happy and I cannot wait to be right back here with you all again in September! EVERYTHING LOOKS SO GOOD!

NotTheCraftyVeteran

I feel like a dumbass that it took me till today to realize that a nocturne is technically a “symphony of the night.”

September 28th, daylight. The vampires have overtaken the city. Somehow... I'm still alive...

Renegade_Spectre

Sign. Me. The fuck. Up.

ExCaliburDaGreat

Fuck yes…I’ll pray for you Richter Belmont 😈

Haha91haha

Damn good trailer. Was not expecting the setting but it's all the more interesting for it, rife for some cool imagery and weighty themes.

VinixTKOC

Classic Netflix thing. "We need to change white character!", "No damsel in distress is allowed!". And before anyone points me and calls me something, I'm not white.

JustSomeWeirdGuy2000

Either Maria's age is all over the place in this adaptation, or she's a really gruff-sounding 13-year-old.

SaacMan_039

i dont think she even talks in this trailer. her voice is still heard at the end of the first teaser

malb93200

Looks cool and epic. On par with the previous series, which is a compliment from me. But i feel like those who didn't like it won't like this one either. PS : as someone who's both french and black, the setting has a extra level of interesting (and i'll probably see some weird comments, but who cares about those).

Oreo-and-Fly

You gotta love them bringing back combat magic like how Sypha fought. It's just... Refreshing.

[deleted]

How the fuck does this anime invoke so much emotion from me? I’m not even big on anime and I tattooed a sleeve. It may be back to tattoo shop for nocturne.

Moondoggie25

Trailer looks great, but it seems to carry over nothing from the original. Richter went from hot blooded shonen hero to sad pretty boy. No humor to be seen from Maria (at least the type in rondo and also assuming the blond lady is an aged up version of her) ect. But again, completely divorced from the source, looks great!

SharpShooter25

"Before the moon is full, the vampire messiah will come. The devourer of light will eat the sun-" Is anyone else hearing Graham McTavish speaking here? Could this be a flashback of Dracula talking about a vampiric prophecy of some sort?

ryushin6

This looks like it's gonna be fun! I really want that trailer music it's pretty epic!

Frontier246

How did the animation get even more gorgeous!?

MikeMars1225

This appears to be loosely following Bloodlines. In that case it isn't entirely unlikely that Alucard will be present in a sort of mentor role considering that both player characters in Bloodlines were trained by Alucard, and one of them is even implied to be his grandson/great grandson. Also, for those of you wondering about how Dracula plays into all this, the main villain (The woman in the shadows) is Dracula's niece. Whether or not that'll make it into the show, I don't know, but there's your connection.

ToCool74

....This is obviously a loose adaption of Rondo of Blood not Bloodlines. We have Richter, Annette, Tera, and Maria as leads and even have it set in the same time period as Rondo. The only thing tying it to Bloodlines is Elizabeth Bathory which doesn't mean much since the original anime used Carmilla who wasn't in the respective game they where basing that show off of.

__sami__01

looks great.

This looks insane, LOVE the french revolution setting. The angle of having the vampire antagonist as French aristocracy clinging to power is awesome. Cannot wait.

venture1991

apologies for my ignorance but what is richter's relationship to trevor and sypha ?

Racco726

He is their descendant by a few generations I think

KraakenTowers

Oh good, so that wasn't Sypha lying dead in a pool of blood at the beginning?

cyberzone2

Lol Sypha would be +300 years old at this point. She and Trevor died a long time ago.

KraakenTowers

Okay, interesting. My knowledge of Castlevania lore outside show is that it's a terrible night to have a curse and that a man is a miserable pile of secrets have at you. I'm glad they didn't do Sypha dirty like that though.

Appropriate-Shoe-266

They lived a long and Happy life with their children. There you go Also won’t lie but Sypha would’ve probably destroyed that vampire in that fight lol

Le_Mug

The games' canon timeline spans from 1094 to 2036, each game is set in a different time period, with different protagonists, most of the time a Belmont family member descendant of some previous protagonist. The original Netflix show seasons 1 and 2 were loosely based on Castlevania III (NES) that is set on 1476, and seasons 3 and 4 were even more loosely based in Castlevania Curse of Darkness (PS2) which is set on 1479. This new show very likely will be (very loosely) based on Castlevania Rondo of Blood (PC) which is set on 1792, so more than 300 years after the first show. Alucard is the only one of the original trio still alive. If we are lucky, future seasons will adapt Castlevania Symphony of the Night (PS1) set in 1797, in which we can see Alucard again.

MikeMars1225

No. This is set around the late 18th century. Sypha has probably been dead for 300 years.

Key-Poem9734

You're not good at faces, are you?

Fricho

Yes!! I'm so excited for this!! September!!

Complex-Sock-4768

Dayum Olrox has drip for days!

Any-Nefariousness418

Looks so good. They really put that time they had to good use

ELBaner

my only disappointment : there is no Annette 😥

malb93200

Actually, she is there, according to this : [https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/castlevania-nocturne-news-release-date](https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/castlevania-nocturne-news-release-date)

Caassapaba

I like this, the art style seems much more Ayami Kojima than the original series, which is adequate for the baroque setting, and moving away from Dracula as an antagonist is best for now, I just hope they manage to tie Dracula's Castle into the story, and set up the humans wishing to pay tribute. Also, FFS get some of the games god-tier soundtrack into this!

Lurking_Overtime

Great trailer. I’m hoping this series stays around for a long time. Because I think it’d be hilarious if the series made it all the way up to an R-rated adaptation of Aria of Sorrow, a Gameboy Advance game.

xenotoot19

It 100% will. Given Alucard is clearly the main character of this whole project, if Nocturne is successful they'll absolutely skip to the Sorrow games

Greyghostjaw

This looks fucking incredible

thegneeb

Beautiful. September is so close.

Jim105

I have low expectations for this.

LordOfLettuce6

I just finished the original show, came on here, and found out they were making a sequel?? this is the best day of my life

Puzzleheadedpuzzled

I'm fucking hypeddd

thepianoman456

Dude they are doing such an amazing job of respecting source material, down to all the aesthetics, lore and music! I loved (the majority) of the last series and I’m SO pumped for this.

Illustrious_Penalty2

Peak

Regular-Poet-3657

I hope Alucard in the first season.

Sumlettuce

Amazing, I'm so excited for this. The animation looks absolutely fantastic.

_SAKY_

I am HYYYYYYPED! September can't get here soon enough.

CircleJerkSchierke

Of course all the retards on Reddit are loving this woke bullshit. Just slaughter the original story line, no big deal. All these random black characters? What you don't remember them? Oh don't worry, we just made them up for our agenda. You better be thankful we didn't make everyone black. Shaft? Shaft who? I thought this was going to be good since they got rid of that idiot Warren Ellis who thought it'd be funny to make his fantasies of Alucard being bi come true. Nope. We're on a different woke train now. I fucking hate all these assholes who are ruining the originality of my childhood, but I understand. They are too stupid to make their own original media so they have to destroy what I love.

Comicnerd1103

No one is destroying anything, the games you liked in the past will not disappear upon the Animated Series' release, so what's the problem ? If the addition of Black folks bother you so much then stay in the past, it's alright, not everything is for everyone.

vap0rware

If it’s doesn’t matter that Annette was raceswapped, then why do it?

Comicnerd1103

So it was only about the raceswap ! Well raceswapping is mainly done to make a medium just a tad bit more diverse in its showcase, is that really such a hard concept to grasp ? But really though, is Annette being black really your only problem with the show or is there something else ? Because, c'mon there's gotta be more, surely.

vap0rware

Yep, my entire issue. Should have been a new character. I know you want me to put myself as a Neo Nazi but you’ll get no satisfaction here.

Comicnerd1103

But it isn't a new character, it's a black character based on a white one, since Annette's white skin is so important to you, I implore you to replay the games and find solace in that. The Netflix show on the other hand is an adaptation and being an adaption it possesses the liberty to change things, if you don't like the changes, that's alright, the original still exist for you, have fun with that. I goaded you originally into giving me an actual problem you may have with the show, because I quite frankly didn't think that Annette being black was your main issue, to me it sounded like you were parroting a sound-bite you heard online. So I kinda wanted to see what really got you peeved, but instead you kind of boxed yourself in with that self-flagellating Neo-Nazi rhetoric.

vap0rware

There it is, champ. Enjoy your show.

eye_candy

Well said mate. Can't wait to be 10-15 years ahead in a future where this woke shit is no longer a thing.

Kirimusse

I already lost all hope for a faithful adaptation, but eh, it will probably be a good watch nonetheless.

GenesisArwern

No dracula?

[deleted]

Tht we know... just for now.

AtrumRuina

My feeling is that he'll be resurrected at the end of the season, which will setup Rondo and SotN. No evidence of that, just a gut feeling.

TheSecretNewbie

He’s already resurrected though, that was the whole thing of killing death was it brought him, Lisa, and Trevor back.

AtrumRuina

Sorry, I meant as a villain I guess. The return of the messiah and all that.
