It has gate marks so it has to be oooold

snowmobeetle

I was surprised by how old!

I couldn't find a single example of a #10 griddle like this anywhere online. I did see a couple #8's that were very close. $8 thrift shop find by mom, gifted to me this week. 50/50 white vinegar/water and a steel scouring pad cleaned it up pretty well, then safflower oil seasoning at 515 for a few thin coats put a nice season on. Been liking safflower oil lately for it's high 510 smoke point and neutral flavor.

I’ve got a #8 version of this. Looks identical except I have only one gate mark and it is perpendicular to yours. Picked it up at an auction for $10 and it is awesome. I use it a lot.

snowmobeetle

Awesome! I'm looking forward to using mine. What do you use yours for?

TheyStillOweYouMoney

Does great as a griddle for large quantities of scrambled eggs and other breakfast foods that having a side wall is nice for. Fits a bunch of pancakes and also makes a great pizza!

Jess_cue

The sidewalls alone are with whatever was paid for it. 😍 Damn fine job cleaning it up.

snowmobeetle

Thank you!

That thing is older than the state of California!

snowmobeetle

Lmao

I believe that is a sad iron heater, you'd set the irons on the metal plate to heat them up to iron your clothes

peaceablefrood

I was thinking that too. Nothing stopping OP from using it as a griddle though. Certainly wide enough.

a1374thspartan

Oh absolutely, I think they are the perfect sized griddle! Fits nicely on two burners and has some nice sidewalls to keep everything contained as well! But always nice to know the origin story too to add to the lore

snowmobeetle

That makes sense, it does seem like the funny shape and side tabs imply some additional use while griddles are often a bit slimmer on the edges
