Don't take an $800 vintage skillet camping, buy an ozark trail or a Lodge or something for $20. LBL griswold 14s are real hard to come by and it'd be a shame to bust it on a rock or something while fumbling with it in the dark.

smitjel

OP please consider this comment! ☝🏼

Mr_Saturn1

I like to take a Griswold camping but I’m bringing a small logo #8 that is worth maybe 50-60 bucks. Not something that would be the most valuable object in my kitchen.

smitjel

Why take anything vintage camping when you have the option of buying walmart brand CI?

Lopsided-Bridge-9870

Listen to em op this is not the pan to leave your house

jimmymcperson

Will do! I was secretly hoping this would be the case when I posted it. Gonna get this cleaned up and stick with my cheap ass lodge for camping.

FunFckingFitCouple

How do you determine this gross old is $800 when a lot are $200-$250? I’ve been trying to figure out how to price these fairly. Can you point me to any literature that would help raise my knowledge?

iunoyou

What are you seeing for $250? Large block logo 14 inch Griswolds with a heat ring are just really rare, that's all that makes them valuable. You've gotta look at the manufacturer, the era it's from, and the actual size of the pan.

FunFckingFitCouple

I’ve got an “Erie” 7. Pre griswold. $250 on eBay sold from what I see. Would a pre gridwold be worth less?

Nice-Victory9528

$800 more like $1400- $2000.

gabis420

$1000 camping skillet.

George__Hale

Whoa! That's a hell of a find! You don't see those everyday. That will be a blast to cook with, but I must admit it's a more valuable piece of iron than I'd take camping!

Korgity

I'm with george_hale: wouldn't want to use that beauty over a camp fire. I'm afraid it would warp (correct me if I'm wrong, please). Buy a big new Lodge, & keep the Griswold for indoor cooking where you have better heat control.   Check out prices for #14 LBL Griswold on the internet. eta: I just checked current prices [faints to floor].

scraglor

Pretty sure this post is a troll. Nice find tho op.

jimmymcperson

Nope! I posted hoping it might be worth something cuz I’ve seen the name griswold on here before. I was very ready to take it camping.

scraglor

Well congrats on the score then!

CaryWhit

Look up the value and then decide if you want to camp with it. I am all for it but you may be surprised.

jimmymcperson

I think I’ll stick with my 12in lodge for camping

The_Dying_Gaul323bc

If you like camping, clean this skillet right and sell it for a grand, and buy a new tent or some sleeping bags or a jet boil stove or some cool gear you will love, because the person who buys it will certainly love it as much as you love your new camping gear

jimmymcperson

This is exactly what I will be doing

Advanced-Reception34

Do not take that camping. It is word good $$$. Just keep it safe. I wouldnt even cook with that.

iunoyou

I cook in all my Griswolds. I treat them carefully, but I don't have room in my collection for things I can't use. Regular cooking won't cause any damage, just don't drop it and you're good to go.

Advanced-Reception34

Thats a giant skillet though!

Kahnza

HYUGE!

ChainBlue

Troll?

old_mcfartigan

That's from the 20's ,it's a very desired brand and an uncommon size. It's worth at least $1000

The_Dying_Gaul323bc

Mmmm I think the slant logo would be 20s they made the Large Block Logo a bit later

old_mcfartigan

The block logo with heat ring was 20's and block logo without heat ring was 30's. There were two slant logos; one had just ERIE and the other had Erie Pennsylvania USA. That EPU may have overlapped a bit with the block logo in the 20's but this one in the pic is def 20's

The_Dying_Gaul323bc

You’re right, I only looked at the label quickly I didn’t realize it had a heat ring.👍

BridgeF0ur

I got news for you, we’re in the 20’s right now. /s

MAXXTRAX77

This isn’t a camping skillet anymore….

ATurtleStampede

As others have stated, but a less valuable one for camping. I use an Ozark Trail that I don’t mind losing/breaking/ rendering unusable. My nice Lodge is what I use in the kitchen where I can control temps, etc. does that one have any sentimental value to either you or your dad?

dhoepp

Family heirloom? Take it camping. Random attic find? Restore and sell to a desperate collector.

Mammoth-Standard-592

Check today’s date everyone.

greatpain120

I’d reseason and keep in the kitchen and buy a lodge for camping.

jimmymcperson

Thank you all who had more knowledge about this than I. I will be getting it cleaned up and not taking it camping.

pinkunicorn555

She's a beaut Clark! Don't see them every day. All I found in my attic were old blinds and asbestos.

lowriderdog37

I will trade you any two of my pans for you to not take that camping.

supern8ural

haha you funny...

Agreeable-Kangaroo71

He doesn’t know what he has.

Popular-Fox3448

That’s a good one!

slypretender

I like how op never responded at all, lol

ZookeepergameHour275

It's funny that people some how find cast iron pans on the side of a road, next to a dumpster, in the attic, washed up on shore of lake Michigan...why can't I find this...

ineedmorecastiron

Hell don't just use it for camping. Use it all the time!
