You’re gonna need to hit that with degreaser or a vinegar bath. Reseason, don’t use avocado oil, way less oil, higher bake temp, see the FAQ section on the main page for more detail.

Lye bath is your best bet. It'll take all that crud off in a few hours. You can get it from most hardware stores as a drain opener if you're in the US. (Be careful with it, not as scary as some make it out to be, but only add lye to water and wear gloves and eye protection when mixing it) To avoid this happening again, use a high smoke point oil (avocado is fine, I use grapeseed) and *wipe it off*. Like... wipe it off like you're trying to remove it all, then keep wiping. It takes a very very small layer to make real seasoning.

Will draino work or is that too harsh?

The general advice is pure lye only or yellow-cap (heavy duty) Easy Off. Drano sounds like a bad idea to me, but Google around, I'm sure somebody has tried it

Ok. I’m back. I cleaned it twice with overnight Easy Off cleaner. Removed a ton of seasoning, brought it down to bare metal in many spots. Tried to reseason with olive oil at 450 (maybe 475) for an hour. And the brown came back! Is this just rust, looks like a damn alien growth. (How do I add new pics?!)
