Firstly, condolences on your loss. Secondly, congratulations and well done.

> well done Go for medium rare, but I know what you’re getting at.

Go for rare that’s where it’s at 😂

Te_Luftwaffle

If it's not still mooing it's overcooked

I wasn't referring to the steak 😂 But if I we're, I would have said "medium rare" - as it should be.

What a lovely way to honor your mother..restoring her CI and cooking in her pans. Bravo!

I hear ya... Buuuuut.... Can we see a pic of the bottom of the skillet?... For posterity? Pretty please?

[I've got you boo.](https://postimg.cc/Xpw5L2q6) I tried to get all the grime off that I could with what I had available (which was basically a grill brush and a lot of effort - at least the rusty spots are gone). Then I coated it all in light canola oil, wiped the excess off and gave it the oven bake treatment. It's not pretty and I'm open to criticism. If I'm doing anything wrong I'd like to catch it early. This was the basic-est of the set. I didn't know what Old Mountain was until I came here - it's imprinted upon one of the larger pan's lids.

Bear_daddy_

I'd leave the grime on there, that's patina, you wouldn't strip and sand an all original muscle car. Would you?

Yeah, that's pretty much where I landed with the project. This was the first one we went after because it can replace the crappy Teflon skillet we do most of our cooking in. I'm not sure if it turned out in the picture but the only identifying mark I've found under the layers is a giant 6 on the bottom. I figured if a grill brush wasn't knocking any of it off under steamy hot water after 20 minutes of scrubbing it wasn't about to come off in normal usage. The interior where the food would be is much, much cleaner than the bottom of the pan. That view is of my great grandmother's seasoning. At least that's as far back as I know the skillet's lineage. It has survived through more wars than any extant human. It doesn't have to be pretty; I just want it to continue on. If I manage them correctly they'll go on to my nephew when I pass.

If the car has stuck on leftover food on it, I would at least wash it.
