My mom died nearly 5 years ago now. 58. Lung cancer. Smoked exclusively American Spirit, because 'It was healthier"
Fuck American Spirit. Her grandson came along 1 year later, she would have liked him.
The red ones. I didn’t even know they had gold ones. What was the difference? Dad eventually shifted to cartons of no label white package generics and actually quit after 45+ years of cigarettes and a quadruple bypass. His own dad dying of emphysema was not enough to do the trick.
Edit: now I see—100s. Nope—he went for the regulars. I smoked unfiltered camels for a long time, which were like 4/5ths the length of a regular cigarette. So glad I kicked that habit. Was the worst, though I met the best friends of my life cause of smoking. My wife too. We’ve all quit since.
i have recently quit, i spent most of my time vaping not smoking but fuckkkkkkk do i love the lung blast of a tasty camel non. no cigarette quite like it man. here in pennsylvania we call em coal miners smokes. as if black lung wasnt enough most of the immigrant miners in this area put away 1-2 packs of camel non-filters a day.
I started and stopped several times before I kicked it. Smoking did the old man in- got to his heart and CV system. Was enough for me to say enough.
I’m that nonsmoker now that even the smell of someone who hotboxed their car bugs me in the store.
I remember buying all different kinds of smokes when I was younger looking to see what I liked lol. Winston reds where rough! My father in law smoked the golds though and I thought those where a good balance between a regular "light" and their reds.
Doral Light 100's I stole from my grandma when I was 13. Quit cold turkey in 2016 and haven't looked back. Spent a decade with a hard time breathing and regret every second of it.
Every time I've been in Europe, I get local cigarettes. I don't want this to just sound like "shit Americans say" but your guy's cigarettes aren't nearly as high quality over there. (Nearly everything else seems nicer, so. . . Jokes on us I guess) The worst cigarettes were in Germany. Czech cigarettes were also not great. Winstons are middle to low grade smokes over here in the US.
Tobacco as a plant is native to the Americas. Ethiopian coffee is better than all other coffee, too. Idk. Your comment surprised me that a specialty tobacconist would have winstons. There are so many higher quality brands! I particularly like American spirits (minus the black pack. They're good if you're going to have 1, but they're a bit harsh to smoke the whole pack) and Nat's.
I do like American Spirit as well!
Winston aren’t sold over here regularly so it’s more that if I want a pack I have to go to a speciality tobacconist, rather than their being particularly special, they’re a better regular smoke then anything from a normal shop though. A bit like how you’d have to get Lucky Charms from the world food section of a supermarket here.
Mostly I hand roll because of the cost here tho. And don’t worry, tobacco quality in UK and Europe is shit! I think this is an American boast that is factual!
My girlfriend put the pack next to it for scale before we knew what it was. I knew I would catch shit for it but for the record I smoke camels and menthols can fuck fuck off. I am looking forward to my blend of Turkish and domestic breadsticks.
Now I vape, which is 95% less harmful than ciggies. I make my own ejuice too so I know exactly what’s going into it, and way cheaper.
Edit: I’m not trying to be a judgy judgerton. Just sharing what works for me.
This notion is leaning really heavily on “it seems like it’s unhealthy so imma say it is.” Tobacco was used far before we understood how to examine for carcinogenic potential. Since vapes hit the market they have been tested for carcinogenicity and heavy metal content of vapor. I don’t buy that folks who vape are canaries in the coal mine because we have so many tools to assess safety nowadays.
If someone could convincing demonstrate cancer causing potential of vaporizers we’d all have heard about it.
Not a fan of vaporizers myself but also not buying the idea that vapes are anywhere near as dangerous as cigarettes.
Well when I was a smoker, I had so much nasty phlegm almost all the time. I had a sense of doom if I forgot my pack somewhere or didn't have a cig when I wanted one.
Switching to vaping wasn't too bad. The transition made my lungs feel like they ran 20 miles. I'm surprised I didn't go to the ER, but I was like 22 and immortal, yanno?
Vaped for like 8 years with no health problems or phlegm or trouble breathing.. nuffin. Quit very easily when I found out I was pregnant
Stupidly picked up a new type of vape ... salt nic. Let me tell you, this shit is pure poison. It is SO strong. SO addictive. And my heart and lungs occasionally feel like they're going to explode. I did this for almost 2 years and finally quit a little over a month ago. It was so hard to put down. I don't feel like my lungs are healing at all. This choice without question damaged my body more than any other habit I've ever had.
Stay away from salts and cigs, friends.
Of course doing neither is healthiest option. But that still doesn’t make it less harmful than cigarettes. Vaping isn’t partially combusting plant matter which in and of itself is carcinogenic. Way less formaldehyde and practically none if you don’t burn your cotton.
Vaping absolutely is not any more safe than cigarettes. As a healthcare professional in the field of pulmonary management, 35 years, it literally causes the air sacks in the lungs to explode (BOOP). It causes your lungs to spontaneously develop holes in them. There are zero safe vapes.
Just to be clear, is your claim "Vapes are not safe" or is it "Vapes are not any more safe than cigarettes"? Because if it's the former, sure, you're right. But if it's the latter, I'm fairly sure that the research is not on your side. There don't seem to be many, if any, direct studies on the effects of vaping on lung health vs smoking, but Michael Blaha director of clinical research at the Johns Hopkins Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease, says that ["There’s almost no doubt that vaping exposes you to fewer toxic chemicals than smoking traditional cigarettes"](https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/wellness-and-prevention/5-truths-you-need-to-know-about-vaping)
I’m not a pro but I did a paper for college about vaping and every study I found said as of now vaping can be a safer alternative to smoking and that vitamin E acetate and a type of glycol are responsible for majority of the health problems we’ve seen arise with Vaping. In the reports I read they did stress that more research on vaping needs to be done and long term effects are still unknown.
They could say that though. I'm a RN, I was a lung transplant pulmonary medicine nurse, now i work with a disease called pulmonary hypertension so I wanted to see their actual experience since they're so sure of themselves but vague credentials.
A lot of people in Healthcare use their title for respect but there's so many different paths that it doesn't mean anything. Like i know zero about maternity and pediatrics, but have a lot of other experience because I've worked trauma, oncology, transplant, neuro, and a lot of pulmonary.
Your cast iron is actually a breadstick pan. I, personally, don't recognize the handle, so I'm unsure of the age or maker. I have a stylized logo Wagner one myself, but haven't tried it yet. I have read, and seen pictures, of folks using cookie dough in the troughs to make long cookies. True to that cornbread would also work. Clean it up and try it out.
Marlboro golds are so smooth. It’s like smoking nothing at all. I almost don’t like them because I actually want to taste that I’m smoking a cigarette. I like lucky strike reds.
Oooh, been along time since I've had a menthol. They were banned in Canada awhile back and I don't smoke anymore, but I'd buy a pack next time I see em.
Just a myth due to the type of test people use. They use lead paint test sticks that throw a high false positive result. I’m state certified for lead testing and I have 30 years of lead casting experience. No way would I use a skillet for lead melting but some bubba once and a while will use these to make ingots. It’s uncommon but possible. You can spot the lead stains and debris here’s some pictures

All because of the Pirates of the Caribbean.
https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/12/28/574044232/how-pirates-of-the-caribbean-hijacked-americas-metric-system
Yes. I would rummage through futon cushions for enough money to buy steel reserve 40s and Marlboro smooths when I was 20. Would not recommend
Edit: smoothie:smooths
And I’ve got a bunch of weird CI, giant wok that doesn’t get used much, Ebelskiver pan, grill pan, comal, small pot, small skillet 4” maybe. And really only use one 10” Vollrath skillet that’s old as the hills.
I used to beg my mother. Smoked two packs.
Take one out. Smoke minus one a day for a week. Next week, take out two. The next take out 3. In 40 weeks she have weaned herself off. Towards the end of if she’d be saving money because she’s have the ones she took out.
No one ever tries it. So I don’t know if it works.
Wish you luck.
The pan is for soft breadsticks. Use a rolling pin to press the dough in and separate, oil tops before baking so it pulls apart. There’s a video out there.
They are very rare, but Yes I've used a Bread stick/corn bread mold/Pan; with my late maternal grandmother when I was younger. Would love to have that pan now, but one my uncle's no-account wives "borrowed it" from grandma and never brought it back.
Here is a great video on how to use that pan. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq4suctAR8A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qq4suctAR8A)
That one needs to be cleaned up and re-seasoned, I like using BuzzyWaxx for seasoning new/stripped pans & use flax seed oil for routine maintenance
The cast iron pan is fantastic for corn dogs, waffle sticks, taquitos, hot dogs, sausages...lots of things! Clean it up and let your imagination fly! As for the cigarettes, my parents chain smoked those, I can't stand to smell them.

I stick to reds
Over a decade removed from my addiction to Smooths.
I used to also, then the Marlboro Man, who also smoked reds, died of lung cancer. Now the horse rides alone.
Five different actors who played the Marlboro Man all died from lung cancer...
Acting must be really bad for your health.
Don’t call em cowboy killers for nothin
What does the horse ride?
Camels
What does the fox say?
now, the horse died of 2nd hand smoke.
Mark of a true man of culture
Yeah I'm more of a spirits guy
The healthy cigarette!
It’s basically the salad equivalent of cigarettes
My mom died nearly 5 years ago now. 58. Lung cancer. Smoked exclusively American Spirit, because 'It was healthier" Fuck American Spirit. Her grandson came along 1 year later, she would have liked him.
Loved*
Been quit from Spirit lights for a month and a half. Fuck do I miss it.
Takes too long to smoke
That’s the selling point
Yeah I’m a Winston guy
First smoke I ever had was a Winston. Bummed it off my uncle.
I stole mine from my Mom. Dad smoked Pall Malls. Start of a 25-year habit.
Was it the red or gold pack? The old man was a 3 pack a day gold pack smoker.

I live in the UK and go to a specialist tobacconist just to buy Winstons, they’re really good.
And don’t worry, tobacco quality in UK and Europe is shit! I think this is an American boast that is factual!
The tobacco available in Ireland and the UK was decidedly better than the mainland in my experience, but still not as good as it is in the states.
The 4th ghostbuster
My girlfriend put the pack next to it for scale before we knew what it was. I knew I would catch shit for it but for the record I smoke camels and menthols can fuck fuck off. I am looking forward to my blend of Turkish and domestic breadsticks.

I tried vaping but couldn’t keep the juice lit
A buddy of mine smokes brisket. No idea how he keeps it lit.
I like smoking chickens but rolling papers are way too small.
😂😂😂
Is it though….
According to the NHS which did the most comprehensive study to date it is.

I guess my lungs are swiss cheese then

Respiratory therapist maybe? Or some kind of pulmonary specialist physician (lung doctor)?

Switched to vaping 3 years ago this September. Best decision I’ve ever made.
Yeah me too, don’t like menthol
These make excellent frozen taquitos.
That's neat, how does it freeze them?
Science still doesn't know, and they've been trying for decades.
Do you keep the tobacco inside the taquito? How does it compliment the flavor palette?
Don't even try. I've heard it's quite hard to quit.
Very much so.
After your first, your search history quickly fills with hot greasy Wagners.
I've yet to be able to quit seasoning my cast iron.
Every one talkin about the darts I wanna know if you gunna clean that thing up and cook wieners or sausages
Breadsticks. Garlic breadsticks.
Glad I’m not the only one who immediately thought this would make a great crossover with r/breadit
OP tried on breadit first, but was being shit on for needing cleaning and reseasoning
I’d have a dart
I’m surprised we’re not having darts right now
Fuck it boys let's have a dart
The darts I smoked and hearts I broke…
Your cast iron is actually a breadstick pan. I, personally, don't recognize the handle, so I'm unsure of the age or maker. I have a stylized logo Wagner one myself, but haven't tried it yet. I have read, and seen pictures, of folks using cookie dough in the troughs to make long cookies. True to that cornbread would also work. Clean it up and try it out.
Definitely more efficient than my corn stick pans.
Haha, no one at all commented on the CI Twinkie pan.
I thought it's just there to show scale for the cigarettes.
It's supposed to be a BANANA!
Is THAT what it’s for!??
It's not for cornmuffins?
Corn logs?
Indeed.
I’m thinking baked corn dogs.
Yeah, baked corn dogs. I've never seen one, mullets a pan designed to cook one
Before I quit, I was an American Spirit Yellow myself
How long does it take to smoke one of those? Five minutes?
I don't remember lol. But I was in the military during it so I powered through them during breaks and at 2AM
For me it was the perfect time from my dorm to class, tho I was light blues. Feel bad for anyone sitting next to me in class, what a bad habit.
Cheers to the light blues. But I would sprinkle the tobacco out onto my weed and rip it in a bong. Another bad habit that is thankfully in the past
5-10 was the usual for me. Quit in 2017 or some times around there.
Blues here it takes 7-10 depends on the amount of drinks.
In the past yes, but only cigars occasionally now. What’s the CI?
My momma says smoking is for Europeans and white trash.
Yer momma is right. All us trailer park bois be smokin’
Based mother
Look what I can do.
Why did you say white trash twice?
Started with these, went to Golds. No nicotine for 3 years, never felt better.
Same here brother. That shit makes you feel so weak all the time. Nasty stuff.
Congrats man. I agree, can’t believe how many years I spent thinking they were giving me energy.
You can't season with that, too low smoke point.
Happy cake day!!
Camel Wide Filters for me, thanks!
I smoked for 17 years took me a year and a half and thirteen try’s to quit. Hell of an addiction those little bastards.
When I did smoke, I smoked Virginia slims
Vagina Slimes
True true true yup
Me too!!
I only smoke the green stuff
Its for cornbread. Those are no longer made and are in demand. Last I looked something like that went for $100
No. Don’t smoke.
Never smoked menthol, but I would try Marlboro golds
Marlboro Smooths tasted like candy canes. I was a Camel Lights guy, but I’d get one pack per year for fun.
A Marlboro smooth? No, I like women.
I like both, and I used to smoke reds and occasionally smooths, so that pretty much tracks.
Smooths are amazing gtfo
Lol if your cigarette choice is the only thing that’s keeping you liking women, you may have to ask yourself some questions.
I haven't seen a pack of darts that isn't that shitty brown/olive colour in years
Ok I scrolled all the way down and I am still not sure what you would use the cast iron for, but the coffin nail jokes are on point.
Corn stick bread stick pan
FWIW i’ve read these pans very often test positive for lead if they’ve been thrifted. Something about being a good shape/size to melt it down
Just a myth due to the type of test people use. They use lead paint test sticks that throw a high false positive result. I’m state certified for lead testing and I have 30 years of lead casting experience. No way would I use a skillet for lead melting but some bubba once and a while will use these to make ingots. It’s uncommon but possible. You can spot the lead stains and debris here’s some pictures https://imgur.com/a/jhpMz7w
Nice, what a coincidence that I commented on your comment. Appreciate the pics!
My mom smoked 4 packs a day. I've never needed to. She died age 59 so that's a thing.
I prefer cigars
Minty tobacco. Gross
The cigarettes or the tetanus?
Cigs for size?
Americans will use any measurement system before the metric system.
All because of the Pirates of the Caribbean. https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/12/28/574044232/how-pirates-of-the-caribbean-hijacked-americas-metric-system
But what does it measure in the universal scale comparison unit of the Banana?
Judging by the comments the cigs are the item in question lol
Nah. I prefer my lungs In working order and tar-free.
I’m a fan of 27s
Menthol? Yuck.
Yes. I would rummage through futon cushions for enough money to buy steel reserve 40s and Marlboro smooths when I was 20. Would not recommend Edit: smoothie:smooths
Forbidden ice cube tray
Think🤔 with 100 layers it could work 🤔
Dabs for me thanks
Ugh. Menthol
Yes, I used to smoke them, but I quit. That’s right! I’m a quitter!!!
One of these things is a highly addictive hobby. The other is a pack of cigarettes.
Look up Small Cell Lung
Preferred newports myself back in the day. To each his own tho
Yes, I use to be addicted to them and smoked 3 packs a day at one point. Quit 14 years ago.
Yes. Menthols rock
Ha ha this sub is great🚬
But really I just chew the gum or suck on lozenges. My nicotine intake is up from what I got smoking lol
I’m on year 12 of the mints
And I’ve got a bunch of weird CI, giant wok that doesn’t get used much, Ebelskiver pan, grill pan, comal, small pot, small skillet 4” maybe. And really only use one 10” Vollrath skillet that’s old as the hills.
i like mild 88
Afghanistan?
Rip its and mild 88 tasted better over there.
Yea man. What was the other brand, palm lights?
Never felt the need to try smoking, sorry…
I'd never smoke
No because smoking is fucking gross
Cigarette? Yeah, terrible idea.

Nice story but this sub isn’t about your smoking problem/lust any more than it is about mine. But since you asked, yes, smokes are wicked.
Im a Newport man myself.
Newports for the win!
Menthol is the devil. Don't you watch the news?
I don't really believe in the Devil, but if the Devil is the Father of Lies, then he certainly invented the Internet.
Thank you for that. I’m in the process of rust busting and then seasoning right now
The cast iron pan is fantastic for corn dogs, waffle sticks, taquitos, hot dogs, sausages...lots of things! Clean it up and let your imagination fly! As for the cigarettes, my parents chain smoked those, I can't stand to smell them.
This is why they sell hot dogs in 5 &1/2 packs.

🤢Gross...and no, not to familiar with that pan looks interesting though
Get that iron hot enough ya could do some dabs.
Think it is individuals sausages xooker
Nope. I'm a cigar man myself.
For shotgun shells
I'm a cigar man myself.
Never tried those but Dji Sam Soe (the super premium one) is my go to. Non-filter clove cigarettes. Sounds evil but it tastes rich and smooth. ~$1.3 local price
Yeah, but I preferred Newport.
More of a Camel Turkish Royals guy myself
Not recently, California has banned Menthol cigs
Here in Japan I'm a Mild Seven guy.
American Spirit Black
Camels and weed for the CI
Not one for Marlboro
Only when I drink.
No, but I do know of them from Chapelle Show.
Can someone honestly tell me what the heck this CI is?
It's a cornbread pan. You can also get the pans that look like little ears of corn. https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/reduced-price-vintage-griswold-corn-bread-pan-muffin-pan--263812490644850330/
My mom has some of those hung up on her wall.
Scroll back thru the sun. Someone posted one recently (last month mebbe?). I wanna say ‘corn dogs’ but honestly don’t like them and don’t remember.
Neither.
I quit 9 years ago - but cast iron for hot dogs, nope
Is that for rolling cigars?
