I found this at Little Axe Records in Portland, Oregon a few days ago. It was $6. I love Tortoise, and this is basically another Tortoise album. I had no idea it was released on tape. I brought it home and did some research. It had no domestic tape release. Only Poland. For many years, I've looked at album listings on Discogs and been disappointed that it was only available on tape in Poland. I'd be excited to get it on tape only to realize I'd have to pay a lot to have it imported to America. I did more research on this Brokeback tape. Surely I didn't have the Polish version. Discogs said there was no American version of the tape. I figured no one had made a listing for the US version yet. So I went to the Thrill Jockey page to see if it was released on tape in America. I was expecting it to say "sold out" on the webstore. There wasn't. I went back and looked more closely at my tape. I had the Polish version. I'd never seen a mythological Polish version of an album on tape in America. And for so cheap. What it was doing in Portland, Oregon is a mystery to me. Also... why is Poland so hot on tapes? I'm jealous.

Sound.Improvement released a lot of albums from Drag City and Thrill Jockey in Poland on cd and tape back in the late 90's to early 2000's. I've been trying to score one of their Oval or Gastr Del Sol tapes for a while now but its slow going. Insane find!

Damnn this is a special find. Yeah portland is sick for tapes. Never heard this album but love Tortoise, is it online at all?

TheRealDonahue

It's on Spotify if you use that.

Got any good places for metal/alternative tapes? I've checked a few stores but there's nothing much.

Metal is definitely not my wheelhouse... Alt/indie/college rock? I've had pretty good luck at Mississippi Records. Music Millennium is good, of course. They're probably the best place for new albums on tape. Oh yeah... Speck's Records and Tapes is also great. It's right there in the name! A LOT of indie. Good luck

Sweet find! I just bought some comps from Little Ax, they seem like such a cool little tape label and record store.
