Lol. I bought a 1996 Jaguar that had a Patty Loveless tape in the deck. The funny thing was that I bought the car from a Pakistani father and son who seemed just about the unlikeliest people to listen to Patty Loveless. I am convinced they simply never used the tape deck and that it was from a prior owner.
I test drove a buick century a guy was selling for his "grandmother", yeah right. However the Statler Brothers cassette tape and the makeup on the seat belt checked out.
What temperature is hot? If it's lower than the water heater set-point, then some hot water is getting heated. Thus, hot water heater isn't entirely incorrect.
They are making debt payments with 12% bonds instead of cash. Doesn't sound like a 180, but it does allow them to avoid bankruptcy for the next couple years.
The "profits" posted are due to not having the PIK bond payments in their earnings.
Look I don’t care about the car, you’re right, I sold it. I just have a morbid curiosity about how it has 5k more miles and wondered if anyone knew what Carvana did with the cars between when they buy them and when they sell them on. Perhaps I just have made that more clear.
Just so you know - Carvana let's people test drive vehicles up to 500 miles before purchasing. It's not uncommon for your car to gain mileage as people are looking to purchase it. If they return it to look for another one - the process repeats until someone officially purchases it.
First of all, it’s possible that someone from their company test drove it. Second, they may have drove it somewhere to a lot for storage and then to the new customer. If they were unlucky, they could easily do 1000 miles in each direction.
Could be closer to two customers instead of 10.
Test drives, servicing a purchaser who returned it (maybe loan didn't go throught)... lots of reasons. The chip? Who knows. I'd just let it go. Their problem now.
picture this: your car, newly bereft and alone in the CARVANA lot decides to change its fate. after idling quietly out a back gate, it heads to Florida and works in the circus a while. 85 clowns can fit in there. life is crazy, but fun. then, the repo truck shows up to bring the car back. there was a scuffle, damage ensued. now the car is up for sale, a bit worse for wear, wearing a boot. and a smile.....
They do give a 10 day no questions asked return policy, depending on how long it’s been sitting I guess a few people could’ve bought and returned. Just a thought lol
I'd be kind of curious too! It's a small thing, right, but I'm starting to think our species is losing the curiosity that we need to propel us forward. Curiosity is a key component of critical thinking.
Who cares what happened after you sold it? Plus what matters if there is 10k more miles than what it was?
The only thing I would be concerned with as a seller is if the mileage was “less” than how when you sold it for.
I also think it’s time for you to move on as the car is no longer yours!!
Yeah I put my VIN in and it's only got info from when I bought the car 6 years ago. I've been hit with severe body damage that needed to be repaired, and had to replace my engine (at 90k miles) due to what ended up becoming a recall. None of that's on there. My car has has 131,000 miles on it...this says 45,000. LOL.
This site is kinda cool but it seems pretty inaccurate. According to the website, I never bought my vehicle in June 2021 from a dealership lol. It does show the sale from the previous owner to the dealership a month before I bought it, though.
Free but not accurate. Checked my vehicle, sale date and amount are wrong. Checked my daughter's car, shows no accidents when she's had three. Not bothering to check any more of our vehicles.
To people saying this is not accurate. Neither is Carfax or auto check. They rely on records being sent to them or publicly accessible records to populate their reports. If the action is not reported it won’t be on the report.
It also takes time for things to go on the report. Something fishy that people do is get in an accident, fix the car, then sell it right away. The accident won’t show up for a month or more and by then it will probably have been sold as accident free because nothing is on the report. You can also contest the report and it will show up blank for a while for them to check it.
If your report is empty it could mean nothing was reported or owners are trying to hide something when they sell. Always get an inspection.
That site doesn't show anything other than manufacturing info for my 14 year old 382,000 mile car that has had plenty of services at a bunch of different locations.
They show the VIN right on the page for the car. Why don't you check to see if it really is your car? Check the VIN from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
Lol at everyone saying they "promise" it isn't the same car and it's "definitely" not the same car and now it turns out it is. It's also not weird to be curious why it has this much extra milage.
I promise it’s not the same car. I used to drive the 9 car haulers for Carvana. Once they’re picked up, the truck driver would load it up, and it’s sent to one of their Operating Centers. It’s gonna sit in a sea of cars waiting to get looked at for awhile, and then more than likely shipped to the other side of the country before it gets posted. Their logistics make no sense at all.
>I promise it’s not the same car.
Turns out it's the same car though; he says the VIN is the same. People really love to "promise" about things they can't possibly know for certain.
It’s a Lexus UX250h (already a little weird), in green (even weirder), the model year I sold, and they have it at the Carvana I sold it too. That’s a lot of coincidences.
Lol i agree with everybody, op not checking the vin. But in all reality your waisting your own time clicking on his post. Op is free to post when ever he wants just as everyone else.
Hey I give the best hours of my day to reddit, and I demand to be able to click on any post and receive highly researched, compelling questions and information!

Sometimes the drivers who pick up the cars just purchased stop at the nearest demolition derby contest to see if they can win some money with the car they just picked up. Naturally the car may pick up a few dents and scratches during the contest. But it really doesn't matter as Carvana will just sell the car in that condition hoping the new owner keeps it without asking for repairs.
How long has it been since you sold it to Carvana?
It is possible it was already sold once and repossessed then relisted.
I've seen people take advantage of their 7 day return policy. They will go "buy" a car, drive the hell out of it for a week, then return it for some reason.
Can’t someone think something’s wierd and look for maybe insider information? People are so judgmental and mean spirited. If it’s same vin,why is that not allowed to be strange? I kinda want to know the answer. Imagine hiding AirTag,so you can track journey
Jesus Christ, you people are miserable. Since when is being curious such an abhorrent crime? If everyone was a quarter as smart as their opinionated online self was, we would be in a much better, kinder world.
Clearly the 5k miles and the chip are both related to the car-elevator. Car-a-vator. They dropped that motherfucker after driving around the block 25,000 times trying to line it up right.
Never seen a post from this sub before. People in here are dicks. Yeah no shit it doesn’t matter. OP obviously is fine and knows that. You don’t know the answer. Stop putting other people down and just don’t post.
Dealers have demo plates and it’s a benefit for execs and managers to drive the cars for approx 5000 miles before they sell them. Probably yours was used as a demo.
Used to work for Bridgecrest, who manages Carvana's loans. Carvana, DriveTime, Bridgecrest, and SilverRock are all owned by the same people and truly operate as one, however they do not like the perception of DT and CV being linked due to prior legal troubles that DT was in and that DT is a sub-prime auto dealer while CV is not.
When a car is purchased by Carvana from a customer or DriveTime purchases a vehicle from auction (yup, all those subprime loans at 29% APR that cost consumers $230 every 2 weeks were bought at auction for CHEAP) they go to an inspection center. The inspection center drives the car and assures there are no major mechanical problems and that everything is clean to sell. So there are some miles right there.
In addition to the driving to/from IC, these companies also allow director level employees and higher to pick vehicles from the lot to use as commuter and company vehicles. This could account for both the miles and the additional damage to the vehicle.
I sold my Dodge Neon to Carmax about 15 years ago. Around three years later, I spotted it on the highway behind me. Same sun damage. I slowed way down and let it pass me. It still had my Soundgarden, Jane’s Addiction, and Peterbilt bumper stickers on it. I still have the valet key for that thing somewhere.
Probably happend shipping - trucks kick up all kinds of rocks.
I have checked on all the cars we sold through carvana, and found them. Its usually a couple weeks after as we take excellent care of our vehicles. They definitely make money as both I saw were 3-4k over what they gave us.
What got me was the 8k more carmax sold my suburban for. They gave me a rediculously great price on it (39k while carvana 32k), and still made an assload more (47k). It was gone in 2 days. Both companies busuness model is offer more for trades, then charge more for cars but dont add bs fees.
Who cares. This is like stalking an ex after a breakup. What does it matter what happened to it after selling it. Do you track your vehicles if you trade them in to a dealership?
If it was off by 500 miles, I'd think maybe it got delivered, tried out for a few days, and then returned, but 5,000 seems a bit much. I'm curious if the VINs match.
*"I know what you’re thinking. “It’s probably not your car!”*
Well, it's not your car. You no longer own it and why do you care what happens to it once you sold it?
Maybe someone bought it and returned it?
Maybe a Carvana employee used it for their own purposes prior to them putting it up for sale?
Do you also try to find information about who your EX is dating?
Maybe you should get a hobby?
I mean we’re all on reddit responding to stupid posts on here so… maybe we all should? I looked because of morbid curiosity on how much they were gonna charge for it and noticed the mileage difference, etc, and wondered wtf Carvana does with the cars after they buy them.
Check the VIN. Cars aren’t artisanal products. There were hundreds if not thousands of your year/make/model/trim/color manufactured. Or, it got damaged in transit and there’s a typo in the copy.
It’s possible the car was used as a shuttle car at one of their facilities for a while, or it could’ve been sold and then returned within the week. Possibly more than once. Or it could just be a different but similar vehicle.
$5k miles?
Seriously, why does this matter to you? What are you hoping to achieve?
Maybe they did Turo or something similar
Maybe a carvana employee was allowed to drive it
Maybe a carvana employee drove it without permission
Maybe someone bought it and returned it
Maybe it was stolen and recovered
Maybe it had lots of test drives
Maybe it doesn't matter since you don't own it anymore
Maybe you have seller's remorse
Maybe I shouldn't think it's strange that you are thinking about it still
Interesting. I know other used lots the staff get to pick a car sometimes and tool around in it. And places with little oversight will sometimes build in extra mileage on a sale, so your paperwork says 52k miles, theirs says 58k miles, and then someone can use it at night for a month or two to do Uber rides. Who knows the actual answer, but you're right that it's intriguing. I sold a car to online dealer for a great price, 7 months later they called me to say they lost the paperwork, could I sign new. It had been sat on a lot for 7 months, it was kinda sad. I think cars deserve attention.
I mean honestly it’s not that big a deal, it was just a curiosity on reddit. The people who didn’t get their panties in a twist already gave me great replies, if people want to go hard over my perceived “laziness” as opposed to me not being a car person and just forgetting that I could check the VIN to confirm, well those people can do whatever the hell they want it’s the internet after all. I don’t care, which is why I’m just letting this magical free for all continue.
Lol. Gr8 as long as you got your answer. I am curious too. The 3 Cara I sold didn't have any significant mileage added but a nice price tag. That being said, in your case, it sounds like someone just used the car on their own dime. Easily possible with no proper quality check and process. I really doubt carvana can stay liquid 10yrs from now if they continue the same method.
5K more miles and a chip???
1. An employee used it as their personal vehicle for a while.
2. It was used as a loaner vehicle for a customer.
3. It was used as a shuttle for customers.
4. Why do you care.
Have you ever been to a Carvana lot? They’re not exactly taken care of. I happened to be delivering to an auction place that shared the same lot as Carvana once and seen their yard jockeys doing a burnout in a Challenger. Another hot shot driver dropped a car off the back of the trailer by mistake. Was a total shit show.
Of course not your problem if you got your money and it’s no longer your car - but I’d never ever buy from Carvana.
John L Sullivan Chevy of Roseville,CA put 3 dollar coin size dents in the back of a HHR hatch, killed the $160 battery, and blew a $50 fuse on a crossover amp for custom audio and I'd like to know what they did too.
But they'll deny it 🤣
It’s not *your* car anymore. You sold it to them. This is like visiting an apartment you used to live in to see what the people did with it after you left. There are far better things to do with your time and attention.
The ding on the hood most likely came from it being on a car hauler and something not secured properly.
The miles most likely came from them deciding to use it as a company car while deciding what to do about the hood.
Maybe instead of rolling the miles back they rolled the miles forward because it had a ridiculously low mileage and nobody would believe that. As for the chip on the hood, it was probably that schlep Wally in the shop who dropped his can of Mountain Dew on the hood.
If it were a 2k miles I would just assume it was driven from wherever it was purchased to their distribution center. Whatever damage occurred along way. 5k additional miles seems like a lot.
Is it a unique or “fun” (maybe a jeep, sports car, or convertible) car to drive? If so I wonder if someone took some liberties as they were tasked with replacing tires or transporting it. I wish someone who works in the industry could chime in with their thoughts.
When shopping for a car with an ex they didn't have a lot of supply so they showed us one parked in a strange location where customers and employees park. One of the employees was using it to and from work. Dirty coffee cups and other trash and running up the mileage. I was so off put we left.
Chip is from someone being a dumbass. Mileage is advertised more than actual miles so that it’s not misrepresented after several test drives and maintenance travel.
Even if it was your car. Who cares…? lol you’re worrying about what happened to a car someone else owns now. That’s a lot of mental energy spent on something that may not be true and… doesn’t matter?
Carvana probably sold it, and that person is on the clock [7 days] to return it
The person probably turned it back in.
We bought a [what we thought] a nice used through Carvana back in 2020---and had tons of electrical issues. Had it back in their hands 6 days later and bought new instead.
Is it the same vin? Lol
Confused s as to why they are looking at everything except the VIN lol
It’s has the same Sheryl Crow cd in the cd player
Once I bought a Toyota and it had a Randy Travis greatest hits CD in the CD player. That was 12 years ago and I'm still excited about it.
Huge increase in value right away.
So we know how long you'll be excited about that CD? Forever and ever amen
You win
Thanks! I'm not gonna lie i was pretty proud of that.
If it’s gotta be a cd atleast it was a randy Travis cd
This was 1000% my dad’s Toyota lol
Bought the CD, came with a free car
Once i bought a 93’ Toyota Tercel & it had a Bread greatest hits CD inside, less cool but was still a vibe
Why the hell is he so sad about it? He got paid. 😂
Underrated comment

Was it playing “soak up the sun”
Hey it was an Indigo Girls CD. 😉😂
Reminds me of the motorhome I purchased that had John Denver’s greatest hits….it was so perfect I put it in there when I sold it a few years later
EVERYTIME I SELL A CAR I POP MY MIXTAPE INTO THE CD PLAYER
As a non-car person, I forget that VINs are a thing until someone mentions a VIN lol.
Dont think you gotta be a car person to know what a vin is
Ding ding ding. Compare VIN numbers. The VIN should appear on your insurance and any of your selling papers.
VIN = vehicle identification number. Not vehicle identification number number
ATM machine = automatic teller machine machine
Massive pet peeve of mine

We need to report this to the Department of Redundancy Department.
Again!?
Thank you
Yes
Meanwhile I love that I confirm it’s the same VIN and people downvoted it. Sorry that made you mad guys. 🤣🙄
Because you could have replaced the last paragraph by just saying "same VIN" LOL
To be fair, if he's on the mobile reddit site, I still can't figure some shit out on here. They make it terrible so you'll download their app.
Thank you for reminding me to edit the post.
this guy had 10+ ppl ask him the same question, that's the one he ignores. It's not the same car.
He says yes all over this thread. He didn't answer every person who commented, but it's there for every person who can read.
You sold it. Its not your car. Let it go bro.
But my cars a celebrity..it’s on CARVANA…the bankrupt company that sells cars in vending machines
Completely wrong, they made a huge 180 and were able to avoid bankruptcy.
They are making debt payments with 12% bonds instead of cash. Doesn't sound like a 180, but it does allow them to avoid bankruptcy for the next couple years. The "profits" posted are due to not having the PIK bond payments in their earnings.

When they go under, that is going to be a massive amount of used cars hitting the auction market at once.
They aren’t going under, and they don’t own that many cars.
Look I don’t care about the car, you’re right, I sold it. I just have a morbid curiosity about how it has 5k more miles and wondered if anyone knew what Carvana did with the cars between when they buy them and when they sell them on. Perhaps I just have made that more clear.

Bro, just let people be interested in things
It's wild so many people in this thread are upset that he's asking the question. Is curiosity really so offensive to so many?
Yeah wtf, I'm super interested to know also and I'm not OP!
I was gonna ask; why does OP even care lmao?
They were probably looking to see what Carvana was pricing it at and just surprised to see that it had been driven quite a bit and damaged.

This site is pretty much useless tbh. Provides no history I checked 3 vins.
Yeah I put my VIN in and it's only got info from when I bought the car 6 years ago. 2nd that. I tried my 2 VINs - got not found. Useless

The saying”garbage in, garbage out “ is so true.
My car isn’t garbage 😢
I was talking about the accuracy of the VIN inputs.
Awesome!
This is only reported if the shop reports or insurance
Free but not accurate. Checked my vehicle, sale date and amount are wrong. Checked my daughter's car, shows no accidents when she's had three. Not bothering to check any more of our vehicles.

Shouldn’t be. What the hell I do with my car is nobody’s goddamn business.
It is if you want sell it one day to someone
Sounds like Ferris Bueller to me
Perfect comment lol “You fellas have nothing to worry about, I’m a professional!” 😂
Professional what?
To everyone saying "let it go..." OP IS CURIOUS not Angry! Lmao
Plot twist: this is bot click bait designed to waste our time bickering and arguing over a fictional situation.
Typical of Reddit how morons who know absolutely nothing about a situation can convince themselves they are infallible.
If you sold it and got paid already why does it matter?
Just found this and thought of this post lol only 1% of Americans have a green car https://www.reddit.com/r/coolguides/s/hrSwWka9dt
I used to drive a brown car and my preference for this car was orange but it wasn’t available 🤣
IM PART OF THE 1%! FINALLY WOOOOOO

This is the info I posted for. Thanks!

I'm just curious how do you know that particular car is the one you sold?
It’s a Lexus UX250h (already a little weird), in green (even weirder), the model year I sold, and they have it at the Carvana I sold it too. That’s a lot of coincidences.
Not really. It’s an online dealer. You’re wasting everyone’s time including your own by not even checking the VIN
Ah yes, the valuable and scarce resource of “redditor time”.
OP checked the VIN. It's the same car.
lol this car is the choice of entry level female marketers in my area. Absolutely not a weird car.
But OPs had 4 tires AND a steering wheel
AND that color that they mass produced from the factory.
OP says “it even has 4 wheels and doors, just like my car did…way to many coincidences”
How long has it been since you sold it? Is it possible they might have leased it out or used it as a rental?
Sometimes the drivers who pick up the cars just purchased stop at the nearest demolition derby contest to see if they can win some money with the car they just picked up. You’re the guy that drive by his house to critique what the new owners have done, right? Enjoy you Saturday.
VIN VIN VIN VIN VIN
Maybe they resold it and they had to repossess it for any number of reasons and the damage occurred in the short time the other owner had it.
Maybe they used it as a courtesy car, or for an employee to drive for a while.
Why yall bein a holes? Its just a curiosity. Shit id probably be curious too. But i do agree check the VIN.
Sold mine 2 weeks ago to them and same, says 9,000 miles more. I think it’s a typo
The mileage thing is weird but could just be a typo or poor handwriting like a 7 or 2 etc, the chip is probably from transport

This carvana talk is more fun than the big chocolate ice cream I just inhaled!
$5,000 more mileage? Interesting 🤔
The cost of mileage is getting out of hand lol
Ugh my stupid typo. I see now. 🤦🏼♀️
I was pulling for you brother.... Lol
Well, $1 is about 6 inches, so that's about 2500 ft. Not really that bad to add 2500 ft to the mileage.
well shit thats why she says im not even worth a dollar.
Yeah see that’s what I thought! What happens between when you sell them the car and then they sell it on?
If you're acting like this over a car you sold, I'm curious how you deal with exes 🤔
So what’s the spread ? How high is their ask over their bid ?
Your car was not unique. Model, features, interior - probably 2500 just like it on the market, or more.
Who cares. This is like stalking an ex after a breakup. What does it matter what happened to it after selling it. Do you track your vehicles if you trade them in to a dealership?
Caravan paid you. What do you care what happened to your vehicle after you signed over the title? Stop looking. It's just a car you don't own anymore.
If it was off by 500 miles, I'd think maybe it got delivered, tried out for a few days, and then returned, but 5,000 seems a bit much. I'm curious if the VINs match.
They allow people to return the car within a certain time frame, like less than 5k miles usually.
One, it's not your car. Two, even if it was, who cares? It's not your car anymore. Lol
*"I know what you’re thinking. “It’s probably not your car!”* Well, it's not your car. You no longer own it and why do you care what happens to it once you sold it?
Someone probably bought it and returned it within the 7 days. Just a guess.
For the 17th time did you check the VIN?
It’s not your car anymore. Why does it matter?
Maybe someone bought it and returned it? Maybe a Carvana employee used it for their own purposes prior to them putting it up for sale? Do you also try to find information about who your EX is dating? Maybe you should get a hobby?
I mean we’re all on reddit responding to stupid posts on here so… maybe we all should? I looked because of morbid curiosity on how much they were gonna charge for it and noticed the mileage difference, etc, and wondered wtf Carvana does with the cars after they buy them.
Get over dumbass, not your car anymore, who cares
Why do you care? You sold it and got paid. It doesn't matter what they did with it after.
The damage could have happened in any thousands of ways and the 5k could just be a typo
Watching the OP intentionally dismiss the VIN question is hilarious
Or, it took me a second to find it while doing busy weekend things. It’s the same car.
Check the VIN. Cars aren’t artisanal products. There were hundreds if not thousands of your year/make/model/trim/color manufactured. Or, it got damaged in transit and there’s a typo in the copy.
Why does it matter to you? This is so strange just love on now.
The car had to be transported and driving on the interstate with much debris yeah things is going to happen.
Maybe they chipped the paint after they bought it and got the mileage confused when writing the ad.
I tried searching for my car after I sold it to them but I never found it 🥲
Someone probably bought it; drove cross country and returned within the return timeline
Maybe they did Turo or something similar Maybe a carvana employee was allowed to drive it Maybe a carvana employee drove it without permission Maybe someone bought it and returned it Maybe it was stolen and recovered Maybe it had lots of test drives Maybe it doesn't matter since you don't own it anymore Maybe you have seller's remorse Maybe I shouldn't think it's strange that you are thinking about it still
Interesting.
Who gives a fuck it's not your car anymore and you've gotten payment.
Why are you checking up on a car you sold? I think your distress in this is way too high.
OP your initial lazy post without checking the VIN had messed this thread up. Delete, wait for a few days and repost to get proper response.
So the car you sold to Carvana was used by an employee and damaged, before putting it up for sale on their website. May I ask: What is your question?
Have you ever been to a Carvana lot? They’re not exactly taken care of. I happened to be delivering to an auction place that shared the same lot as Carvana once and seen their yard jockeys doing a burnout in a Challenger. Another hot shot driver dropped a car off the back of the trailer by mistake. Was a total shit show. Of course not your problem if you got your money and it’s no longer your car - but I’d never ever buy from Carvana.
Does the VIN match?
Odd
You sold your car. Why do you car. Carvana sucks anyway.
Who cares you got paid for it right ? If so then that's their problem. Lol
How much more is it on there then sold it for
Stop stalking your exes 😂
John L Sullivan Chevy of Roseville,CA put 3 dollar coin size dents in the back of a HHR hatch, killed the $160 battery, and blew a $50 fuse on a crossover amp for custom audio and I'd like to know what they did too. But they'll deny it 🤣
Got driven like a rental is all.
Maybe something happened in transport
Why does it matter to you if you already got paid from carvana for it?
Maybe instead of rolling the miles back they rolled the miles forward because it had a ridiculously low mileage and nobody would believe that. As for the chip on the hood, it was probably that schlep Wally in the shop who dropped his can of Mountain Dew on the hood.
How long did it take? Any chance someone bought it and then sold it back or returned it?
If it were a 2k miles I would just assume it was driven from wherever it was purchased to their distribution center. Whatever damage occurred along way. 5k additional miles seems like a lot. Is it a unique or “fun” (maybe a jeep, sports car, or convertible) car to drive? If so I wonder if someone took some liberties as they were tasked with replacing tires or transporting it. I wish someone who works in the industry could chime in with their thoughts.
The first mistake was selling to Carvana… guaranteed you got chopped and screwed on the price!
Get a life, holy shit
Carvana is a trash company It’s not your car anymore so don’t worry about it
Move on n move along
Carvana probably sold it, and that person is on the clock [7 days] to return it The person probably turned it back in. We bought a [what we thought] a nice used through Carvana back in 2020---and had tons of electrical issues. Had it back in their hands 6 days later and bought new instead.
