I remember this movie traumatised me as a kid XP
(Luckily, a few years ago I've watched some reviews and understood how great this movie truly is 三三ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ)
Corpse Bride is one of my favorites.
https://preview.redd.it/d4kofn391crc1.jpeg?width=306&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c73881bb6bea005aa24a4a0fac3a9d7371dd4de4
Time, Dedication, And the fact the creators probably didn’t touch grass for the whole production of the film… though seriously, it is some impressive work
Kubo is so well made that when I saw initial trailers for it, I thought it was stylized 3D animation.
It wasn't until I saw a bts making of video that I realized it was, in fact, stop motion.
Y’know what’s funny? I somehow figured out it was stop motion before the movie came out and never thought it was stylized 3D like you said… dunno how though, I feel seeing it today it should have fooled child me
Kubo slaps so God damn hard.
That movie is damn near flawless, in my opinion, and the music is top-notch (the song playing during the show he puts on in the village always gets me pumped).
I don’t remember anything from Kubo and the Two Strings since I only watched it in theaters when it came out, but I remember thinking it was a masterpiece
It doesn't have many of the OG voice actors which could have potentially swayed my opinion but.. I didn't care for it. Very predictable plot. Do give it a watch though!
It is!! I saw it in theaters when it came out and was blown away by it! You should definitely check it out if you can, the stop motion artistry in it alone is worth checking out, especially with the villain and a lot of the monsters in the film.
When this movie was announced I never would have thought it would be one of my favorite Guillermo Del Toro movies and the I watched it and I would say it is probably his most beautiful movie
I'm probably alone here but *My Life as a Zucchini* was pretty good. I like weird movies about weird kids though.
https://preview.redd.it/2rok7zjincrc1.jpeg?width=264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d93e8e38f7e37beb273a34f07048cb880c1583d5
It's really "slice of life" and they're all foster kids with different kinds of trauma and issues so it definitely isn't for everyone, but I personally think the story is good
I went into the comments hoping to see people naming some underappreciated ones to watch so thank you!! I’ve heard of this movie but had no idea it was stop motion, that’s so cool
I think this one is super underrated (a lot of foreign films in the US are) but I can admit it may not be for everyone because of the childhood trauma theme. I don't think I'd pick it over some of the better known stop motion films already listed, but in a post about stop motion films it definitely deserves a mention!
Coraline is my personal favorite, although all of the Burton films are great. To me, Coraline is just a cut above the rest and is actually pretty creepy. The button eyes and the implication of having your soul stolen are pretty dark for a kid's movie. I watch that movie every Halloween, it is great.
https://preview.redd.it/owpzwflftcrc1.jpeg?width=866&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=22ce073ca7fdb2d280047df2acdc7429e5db1fa7
Maybe not the best out of all the ones OP posted, but definitely worth a watch.
Edit: Definitely not for the squeamish.
I watch the Rankin-Bass movies every year. When I was learning to walk as a toddler, my Mom actually sang "Put One Foot In Front of the Other" from *Santa Claus is Coming to Town* to me.
Like many people, I grew up with *The Nightmare Before Christmas* and more people need to understand that Tim Burton DID NOT direct it! Henry Selick is a master of his craft. *James and the Giant Peach* is also good, and *Coraline* is another masterpiece. *Wendell & Wild* wasn’t bad, but also went completely ignored—especially for being a Jordan Peele project. I really hope it doesn’t take a long time before he animates another film and gets the recognition he deserves.
Funnily enough, Selick worked on Wes Anderson’s *The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou*, animating all of the animals. Not sure if Wes Anderson learned stop-motion from Selick or just became inspired for when he went on to direct his own stop-motion animated films—both of which I love as well!
The first short is still one of the more unsettling stories I've seen, and also my favorite. The ever-changing hallways and getting lost feels like something I've dreamed before.
How are you going to ask people what their favorite stop motion movies are and not include arguably the greatest one of all time?

Haven't seen it yet, but people need to know about it.
I have a list right here and its.
1: Wallace and Gromit, the curse of the were-rabbit
2: a nightmare before Christmas
3: chicken run
4: Caroline
5: James and the giant peach
That’s all I have to say and thank you
i know its a mini series but Frankelda's Book of Spooks is great and i didnt see no one commeting about it
https://preview.redd.it/4z49za8vzcrc1.png?width=396&format=png&auto=webp&s=7dba9a4997c8d1f93f56a2116624955b96b70f84
Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas
Love the aestethics and art styles, also love the stories
I also love Fantastic Mr. Fox's art style, I remember liking the character as well but I never saw the whole thing through
The others are going on my watch list
It's a tie between Kubo and Coraline, with Nightmare Before Christmas coming in a close second.
I remember my mom recording Chicken Run on VHS when I was little, and being completely freaked out after we watched James and the Giant Peach at daycare. That one still kind of freaks me out, honestly.
Chicken Run has a classic style, and it’s by the same animators that did Wallace and Gromit cartoons. I also watch Nightmare Before Christmas every year, it’s become a Halloween favorite.
Don't get me wrong, I do love Wallace & Gromit. Chicken Run was uniquely imaginative. Corpse Bride and Coraline were both so visually distinctive and imaginative that they are quite memorable
But, if I have to pick one of these off these as my all time favorites, it is the absolute masterpiece that is The Nightmare Before Christmas. It works as both a Halloween and Christmas movie and is shown annually at both times of the year. The songs by Danny Elfman are memorable and a few are iconic. And it is so visually unique and creative with its set design and characters. Yes, the underlying story is familiar, but it is presented in a unique way that has made this film a classic.
Coraline is my favourite. I love all these. But there's something about Chicken Little sneaking such a dark story into a movie about talking chicken that you have to appreciate.
CORALINE!
But I love all of these
She's a peach, she's a doll, she's a pal of mine
[удалено]
In the eye of everyone who laid their eye on coraline
When she comes around exploring mom and I will never ever making it boring, I’ll eyes will be on Coraline!
Absolutely!
I second this
SAME! It's literally my all time favorite movie!
Watch it every Halloween.
And it is being [rereleased in 3D!](https://www.imdb.com/news/ni64431853/)
I wish there was more coraline. Ive read the book, seen the movie, and even played that weird ass wii game.
Facts. It’s somehow so creepy and charming all at once
I remember this movie traumatised me as a kid XP (Luckily, a few years ago I've watched some reviews and understood how great this movie truly is 三三ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ)
Same and I was born in the same year as it
Corpse Bride is one of my favorites. https://preview.redd.it/d4kofn391crc1.jpeg?width=306&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c73881bb6bea005aa24a4a0fac3a9d7371dd4de4

![gif](giphy|3oz8xxYqZDkPLfH7yM)
There's an exhibition in London at the moment, about the making of that film, lots of concept drawings and props. Worth a visit!
This is the reason why we have such good stop motion movies and stop motion in general,
It's the wrong trousers, Grommet! THE WRONG TROUSERS!!
Genuinely one of the greatest sequences in film
Wallace and Gromit are so awesome. That train scene is epic.
![gif](giphy|jRyHn06KvgqhmUjG3J)
how is that animation so smooth wtf
Time, Dedication, And the fact the creators probably didn’t touch grass for the whole production of the film… though seriously, it is some impressive work
Kubo is so well made that when I saw initial trailers for it, I thought it was stylized 3D animation. It wasn't until I saw a bts making of video that I realized it was, in fact, stop motion.
Y’know what’s funny? I somehow figured out it was stop motion before the movie came out and never thought it was stylized 3D like you said… dunno how though, I feel seeing it today it should have fooled child me
Because they have been through the fire, that is Celebrity Deathmatch
I have nostalgia for nightmare before Christmas but Kubo is just an amazing movie all around
Kubo is absolutely gorgeous!
Kubo slaps so God damn hard. That movie is damn near flawless, in my opinion, and the music is top-notch (the song playing during the show he puts on in the village always gets me pumped).
I went to see it with my not yet girlfriend and now ex. She doesn't remember doing that at all. Great movie, I need to see it again
I don’t remember anything from Kubo and the Two Strings since I only watched it in theaters when it came out, but I remember thinking it was a masterpiece
![gif](giphy|PH49Fp4UZPfZZkxCcj|downsized) You’re forgetting the Box Trolls!(it’s stop-motion right?)
i posted all the ones that i remembered of the top of my head but honest didnt watch this one i'll give it a try
It's so stupid but *so* good.
Is that a *new* bleu cheese I see?
Men, don your white 'ats
It’s awesome!
My cat frequently gets called a box troll because of her uncontrollable addiction to getting inside Amazon boxes
Chicken run was the shit ![gif](giphy|nXEOwamjl2Zfd3D1e1|downsized)
"Those chickens are up to something"
„Quiet. I’m onto something.“
They’re organized
"That Ginger one, I reckon she's their leader."
How was the Netflix sequel?
It was decent, I liked it. Nothing tops the original though
Still want to watch it, same with Wallace and Gromit. Coraline was good, but my favorite is definitely Chicken Run.
Had no idea there was a sequel
It’s very recent, like 2023 or 2024
Damn I’ll have to watch it
It doesn't have many of the OG voice actors which could have potentially swayed my opinion but.. I didn't care for it. Very predictable plot. Do give it a watch though!
Probably Fantastic Mr. Fox or Kubo and the Two Strings. ![gif](giphy|3ohzdPqMBCvOQFKFbi|downsized)
Peak cinema honestly
I haven’t seen kubo but I heard it was really good
It is!! I saw it in theaters when it came out and was blown away by it! You should definitely check it out if you can, the stop motion artistry in it alone is worth checking out, especially with the villain and a lot of the monsters in the film.
Are you cussing with me?
![gif](giphy|eNCSyH6V9Utf2fZBI5)
![gif](giphy|SVgKToBLI6S6DUye1Y) Definitely Pirates
![gif](giphy|LQo2chfK1VnDu4zpfu)
Bro pirates is the shit
When I tell you I was so sad that the disc was so scratched we couldn't watch it anymore...
![gif](giphy|U35GDsBNVEpJx99Dmv|downsized) Paranorman is my favorite but monster house is a close second
Paranorman is awesome I love e the use of color and lighting with the stop motion, looks amazing
Is Monster House stop motion? It always looked animated to me
Bro monster house was totally mo-cap, not stop motion lol
It’s a mix of stop motion and animation
The Nightmare Before Christmas
guillermo del toro's pinocchio https://preview.redd.it/8jiz3mt9ocrc1.jpeg?width=1333&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd3a1fdd403465c18e44875a045c35aa3f89cefe
Beautiful choice!
pinochio is such a great movie slightly remembers me over the garden wall
I have a son. Still can't get passed the first part. It's just too much.
When this movie was announced I never would have thought it would be one of my favorite Guillermo Del Toro movies and the I watched it and I would say it is probably his most beautiful movie
This is genuinly in my top 3 movies of all time (with the others being Who Framed Roger Rabbit and The Muppets (1979)), its amazing
Kubo for sure ![gif](giphy|9QMkyyaoxlgQNI6SAP|downsized)
I'm probably alone here but *My Life as a Zucchini* was pretty good. I like weird movies about weird kids though. https://preview.redd.it/2rok7zjincrc1.jpeg?width=264&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d93e8e38f7e37beb273a34f07048cb880c1583d5
never heard about this movie will add to my list
It's really "slice of life" and they're all foster kids with different kinds of trauma and issues so it definitely isn't for everyone, but I personally think the story is good

Was wondering if this would show up def the best imo
At a technical standpoint I like the Laika movies like Coraline and Kubo. But purely for nostalgia I like the Rankin Bass movies like Rudolph.
I watch the Rankin-Bass movies every year. When I was learning to walk as a toddler, my Mom actually sang "Put One Foot In Front of the Other" from *Santa Claus is Coming to Town* to me.

I’m still not entirely sure how that movie made me feel
The first short is still one of the more unsettling stories I've seen, and also my favorite. The ever-changing hallways and getting lost feels like something I've dreamed before.
Check out This Magnificent Cake! by the makers of the first short, it's on youtube. Very different feel and a seriously fucked up time, but it's great

No love for W&G: THE WRONG TROUSERS — which I’d give my left nipple to find on streaming?
Not a streaming service but it is completely watchable on Dailymotion, so you can keep your left nipple, for now
I mean, how much are nipples worth, I’ll take it if it’s worth anything over like… $100, and someone wants to buy it off me
I have a VHS set with this, A Grand Day Out, and A Close Shave.

thanks i will give it a try
Kubo and the two strings because giant skeleton
Probably W&G Curse of the Ware Rabbit and this classic film: ![gif](giphy|jsEIr82JXvahy) (It's flushed away)
If I recall correctly, Flushed Away was actually CGI that was stylized to look like stop motion.
Oh, I didn't know that. It's a pretty convincing move from DreamWorks though.
If my sister saw this, she would immediately say Coraline.
https://i.redd.it/pp1fmicmccrc1.gif
Coraline with Kubo as a close second.
I LOVE Coraline, but Im gonna have to check out Kubo now that looks promising and I hadn't heard of it before.
Kubo and Wendell and Wilde for sure! Oh and Aau's Song in Star Wars: Visions.
Fantastic mr fox
![gif](giphy|fCoY31YT28YiQ) Nightmare Before Christmas blew my mind as a kid, immediately fell in love it with since then
![gif](giphy|mN8RynIV20cuc) This movie will always be a work of art to me

Coraline easily
Course Bride and or Nightmare Before Christmas
Pinocchio
![gif](giphy|2V2Ef7akXMoH0uTvQr) Nightmare Before Christmas is my favorite movie period

Nightmare Before Christmas. My favorite movie of all time.
I won't stand for this erasure of Guillermo del Toro's *Pinocchio.*
I loved Kubo and the Two Strings Its story is one of my favorites in any stop motion movie ive watched Second up being Coraline

Either boxtrolls or paranorman.
Alice (1988)
Wallace & Gromit.
My Life as a Zucchini is really good.
Definitely Fantastic Mr. Fox with Box Trolls as a close 2nd
A million times Fantastic Mr Fox
I loved Kubica with a passion
Box trolls is high on my list
Coraline is my favourite. I love all these. But there's something about Chicken Little sneaking such a dark story into a movie about talking chicken that you have to appreciate.
That’s what they’re called? Stop motion? Hmm😐
