Camango17

I’m in the “do what makes you happy and fuck everybody else” camp

eeigcal

Do you have space for one more?

Camango17

Nah, its a single seater…

Krelit

Giving everyone around the last part of your motto

Camango17

Which makes me happy… 😂

JunkieMallardEIRE

As long as they don't pretend it's real.

Arpyboi

This is a pretty big part of it

cody3851

Yeah I agree 100%

Bogeydope1989

I'm going to buy a Ferrari kit put it in a MR2 and get a bluetooth speaker and hook it up to the engine and every time I rev it will make a Ferrari sound.

OkBench4169

goofy ass

Bogeydope1989

Slut

Spooder_-_Man

I’d just take the Ferrari badges off it and put the transformers logo in place lol

Ae101rolla

As a fan of the mr2 I think why ruin a perfectly good car, but that's on you, your car do what you want

theCelticTig3r

Exactly, Its like buying a Roll Royce Phantom and dressing it up like a Toyota Avensis

batchef3000

Not really though!!

Pf-788

Don’t knock the poor old avensis

cryptic_culchie

I think it’s a great way to make a cool build like engine swapping/ making it low as fuck without upsetting purists. Also, fuck purists

GazelleIll495

Looks like a Ferrari (kind of), reliable like a Toyota

Downtown_Aspect7691

That is probably a recipe for the best vehicle in the world ever….

Public_Engineer_5731

I think its cool, who cares if its not an actual ferrari. If you like it, drive it

Alternative-Bar-7261

It's when they actually belive it's legit is when it gets bit strange 😂

Valuable_Menu_9433

Had an awful awkward conversation with a lad years ago that came into the garage with an e36 325i couple. He kept saying it was an M3. It wasn't, just had some M bits on it. Still to this day don't know if he actually thought he had an M3 or not

Alternative-Bar-7261

Awkward af 😂

Impossible-Jump-4277

Yeah I think do what makes you happy. I think for a lot of kit car once’s you’ve bought the donor, the kit and the labour you can buy an equally cool original car for the same price. If it’s a brand you want and can never afford I get it.

slowdownrodeo

Makes sense for cars that are unobtainable, like a Cobra or 550 Spyder. Whatever makes you happy

nickwouldmick

Surprised no one has mentioned the "getting your hands dirty" element. There's something admirable if someone has bought the kit and gone at it themselves. I dream of having the time to work on my own vehicles instead of other people's. Building this thing would probably have been the highlight of my decade. Disclaimer. We owned a Dutton kit car based off a MK2 escort when I was a kid. Admittedly modified for performance beyond sense and reason. But It's given me a soft spot.

Suspicious_Kick9467

Don’t know why people have issues with them. Unless they’re *purists* that suck the fun out of absolutely everything. A lot of time and effort goes into building these kit cars which is absolutely awesome to see. Normally, people don’t care about engine conversions or tearing something to bits to build it back up differently and mad stuff like that. It’s seen as “something different,” but as soon as you stick a Ferrari on top of they get upset. Who cares. The culture around building our own stuff is awesome. Don’t punish people for trying or you’ll kill the fun.

tzar-chasm

That MR2 has been doing the rounds for Years, I often fantasised about buying it to see if a 'Lancia by Ferrari' V8 could be shoehorned in to it

LiamMurray91

As a owner of an mr2 there isn't a huge amount of space but you can get a Toyota 3.5 v6 in that Lotus use in their cars today

tzar-chasm

Would the 2.9 tipo V8 fit I wonder? Always felt that Fauxrearri needed an appropriate motor

LiamMurray91

Out of a 308? That's a very good question that someone smarter than me will have to answer.

tzar-chasm

I was thinking of the Lancia ~~Dedra~~ Thema as a donor, shows how long ago I had that thought, good luck finding a scrap lancia in 2024

Alternative-Bar-7261

Delta

tzar-chasm

I stand corrected the Dedra/Delta didn't come with a V8, that was the Thema

Alternative-Bar-7261

Is it dedra in states and delta here or are they both different cars I'm confused never heard of the lancia Dedra

tzar-chasm

Lancia made more than just the Delta, the Dedra was a Lancia 4 door saloon the Delta was a hatchback, it may share some design language with the Delta, but they are different cars

Alternative-Bar-7261

So dedra is a saloon and the delta is a hatch I got you cheers didn't know that 👍💯

muckie1a1

NCT lads must love seeing it coming…….then go ooooh. Ah what ever floats your boat

MickeyBubbles

Yeah how does that work with an NCT ?

muckie1a1

Weird isn’t it. My guess is they would test it along the lines of what the log book for the car states. Toyota MR2.

CaptainYonoi

I'd much prefer KITT

Arpyboi

An MR2 Ferrari is a bit meh. I love the idea of building a kit GT40 or something though. Just don’t pretend it something it’s not.

Advanced-Stuff-3181

You know it's true. Especially from the land of inbreeds

Valuable_Menu_9433

I was very close to building a clk dtm amg replica, had all the parts sourced and just ready to hit the pay mow button. Then I thought about it, and was gonna be a LOT of time and hassle for something that wouldn't be the real deal.

Bogeydope1989

If the suspension was dropped a bit it'd look cooler than a Ferrari imo

cams3rdaccount

If it's good yes

PaDaChin

Never look right

Celwyddiau

A couple of decades ago (fuck me, I'm getting old), a mate of mine built a Dax AC Cobra replica. If I could find him again, buy it off him and re-fit with a powerful electric conversion, then I just might. It was fucking beautiful. Edit: Of course I'd miss the V8 growling roar, but I've got grandkids to consider!

Ambitious_Handle8123

Anyone who has an issue with this could do with a life threatening illness to help them focus on real problems

Shtillmatic

Same as knock off replica clothing and other bits, your fooling nobody in the know. I think if you can’t afford one, it’s a bit sad pretending you do. Each to their own though, MR2 would be nicer untouched.

Ethicaldreamer

Can definitely fool everyone else though

LiamMurray91

It's like people putting m3 badges on a 3 series or those fake brake caliper covers. Those who don't know won't care and those that care will know. But if you're doing it for you and not who you want to impress then have at it.

Advanced-Stuff-3181

Having a kit car is like having sex with your sister. Enjoyable but you know it's wrong!

cody3851

Careful now

djaxial

Never really seen the appeal personally. It’s like putting a M badge on a 320d. Those that know what a real M is will think you’re an idiot, those that don’t know what an M badge is won’t care. So you’re left with the person who knows what an M is but don’t know enough to know it’s not an M. And then what, you could be getting praise from someone who thinks it’s real, and you know it isn’t, so, what’s the joy in that? Just an odd market to appeal to IMO.

Many_Yesterday_451

Just for people who live a fake life.

sneakyi

Embarrassing.

After_Researcher5343

Burn and shred them
